  1.   This is only true because people listen to the Democrats and Republicans who continually tell them such things as, "This is the most important election of our lifetime," or "If you vote for <the other guys> you're throwing your vote away." The truth is, I couldn't possibly care less what they have to say. I will vote my conscience and sleep well at night, even if that means voting Libertarian. I'll be damned if I'll let a slimy, greasy, bought-and-paid-for politician whose only ambition in life is to climb higher on the taxpayer-funded ladder tell me what is right or wrong.

  5. Jerry, welcome to the club...  I ended up joining about 6 years ago...  I've never completely agreed with Ron Paul's thoughts on National Defense...  but listening to him opened up my eyes some...  You're never going to agree with a candidate 100% of the time, IMHO you need to find somebody you agree with most of the time, and hope they'll stay true to their beliefs once in office.   The truth is libertarians come in all shapes and sizes, and we don't all agree with each other :)  Some are against strong borders and immigration policy... some of us aren't for it.   The national defense issues...  we just have to look for common ground...  My opinion is there is a lot of waste, fraud and abuse in the current DoD budget...  You were in the military I'm sure you saw waste all the time...  There are all sorts of programs the military isn't even asking for that could be cut... How much, I don't know, my guess 30+% of the budget could be cut and not impact our ability to fight...  maybe it's a little less, maybe it's a lot more...  but the military shouldn't be a serving dish for corporate welfare...  it's one of the few things the federal government does that is authorized under the constitution and we should be careful not to waste money on it.   We also don't really need 900 military based outside the country....  Doesn't mean we need to close all of them down...  but how many do we really need?  maybe 100?  These act as a de facto foreign aide to countries who can afford their own security...  We're spending US tax dollars to protect Germany, so they don't have to spend their GDP on their own military...  I'm not saying we don't need to do that...  but first off we shouldn't be paying for the privilege...  Germany should be providing the bases for free, and should be shoulder most of the cost.   Anyhow welcome to the club..  feel free to PM me if you feel the need...  once your mind starts down this path it can be a little shocking how you're world view on a topic can change suddenly :)  Truth is we're so out numbered on here we should start a support group...  I'm sure 6.8 and Chuck would join as well ;)

  6. I think it is less about their effectiveness and more about how stupid Americans are. I mean, we've seen more criminal scandals in this administration than any before and Obama would win if elections were held tomorrow. They don't even have to try any more.

  9. The "bathwater" is the public school system and it's contaminated beyond cleaning.   These anecdotal incidents have gone fare beyond infrequent odd happenings - they are happening everywhere and all the time. This past December a high school senior in Georgia was suspended for a year for...gasp...hugging a teacher...he won't graduate this spring...he won't qualify for the sports scholarship he was going to receive all because he hugged a teacher.  Georgia is trying to pass a law that will require, under penalty of law for non-compliance, parents to inform the school district if there are firearms in the home when then enroll their children or if they buy any firearms after that while the child is in school. Why the hell does ANYBODY need to know if I or anyone else has firearms in my home just because I have children in a public school?  Are they going to start dictating what books I can read next???  Then there is the recent crap (and all the prior crap coming from the Feds) such as what started this thread in the first place! If that kind of crap can happen in Georgia there is absolutely no reason to think it can't happen in Tennessee or anywhere else and what is being dictated by the government and the teacher's unions and the rest of the cesspool of liberal thought is happening in Tennessee because Tennessee schools can't escape it.   Have you looked at what has been and is being taught to students who were/are in the education tract in college today or what is being required by administrations and state and federal governments?  Everyone wants to think that THEIR school system is different but it isn't different...the system is corrupt and beyond repair...it needs to be abolished and the government needs to stop taxing people to support it.  Then, if individual parents want to come together with other parents and have a school where their children attend without Washigton or Nashville telling them what and how they must teach then fine...that's the only kind of public school that should exist.   If you or anyone else wants to keep their kids in the public school system ...if they think that's what's best that's fine...it's their choice.

  20. I hear tell a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one? If that be the case, you'll want Butter Knife Dennis1209 out of your kitchen drawers.   When my butter is very hard and I need two pats of it for my toast or something I use technology myself. I get out my sharpest knife and run the flame of a Bic lighters over the blade for about 15 seconds and... problem solved, repeat for additional pats.

So, constrained by a bunch of folks that don't pay attention, you get to pick Coke (Repulicans), or Pepsi laced with cat piss (Democrats).

  24. And in all of those cases where the school system stepped over the line it became national news with the schools issuing apologies and normally reversing their decision. Somehow I think there were school administrators doing dumb stuff back before there was 24 hour news and Alex Jones.

  31. Once again, that has nothing to do with the schools. It has everything to do with the breeders. If I send my kid to public school and he is the only child out of a class of 30 kids that isn't a future felon of America, that doesn't mean that it's the school's fault that the other 29 kids are hopeless failures, it's the parents. The parents, the parents the parents. Public school or private school, you can't send your kid there with the expectation that they will mold them into educated young adults with an appreciation for learning if the parents don't get involved. I sure as hell don't expect that the school has an influence on my kids' moral compass. The problem with school is just an example of what's going on with society. Sh###y people are breeding at a higher rate because the government subsidizes it. Their pig spawn turns out to be as bad or worse than the parents. The process repeats exponentially.

  32.     In TN no, in VA yes.  TN seems to generally ignore the window tint laws.  If you get pulled over in VA with blacked out windows, expect some hassle.     Another thing to keep in mind....   window tint laws apply where you are, regardless of where the vehicle is registered.  It doesn't matter if the vehicle has FL or AZ tags where the legal tint is 10-20%, if you're in another state where 35% is the max legal tint, you can get a ticket for it.
    1 point
  33. You're not likely to be hassled by the police for excessive rear window tint, based on personal experience.  That is, unless you're a known bad actor.  In that case, the cops will pull you over for window tint, just to talk to you and smell the smoke inside your car.  :D

  36. Instead of paying for an FBI background check I spent $30 for a C&R license. Unlike the TBI; the BATF told me exactly what was showing up (Actually what wasn’t showing up; a disposition) and how to fix it. I followed their instructions and have never had a problem again, plus I got a C&R FFL. Prior to that I had it happen twice after coming to TN. Both times I appealed at the time I was turned down and the denials were revered within four days. After the BATF explained to me what was happening and how to fix it I haven’t had a problem. TBI should have explained it to me; but they were clueless.

  37. It wouldn't be so bad if I knew what was holding me up, TBI wouldn't tell me anything on the phone or in the letter. From what I understand of the link that OS put up is my only option is to appeal the nics. I am really not looking forward to dealing with the FBI. I tthink my tin foil hat is getting to tight because I have had some weird thoughts lately.

  38. TICS has a much higher rate of false positives than NICS...  and TDOS is mis-interpreting state law to deny firearm checks and permit applications...     I know I sound like a broken record, but TICS not only violates the state constitution and taxes a protected right...  but it's a poorly run make work program that needs to be shutdown.   If the federal government wants to perform background checks, 'let them', but the state of TN has no busy wasting tax dollars on TICS.

  44. If I remember the story right, he was in someone else's place of business and not his own. Granted his shop is in the same mall but outside his shop confines, is not his place of business. Whether his AR was fake or otherwise I don't know. But anyone that carries a fake AR around is FISHING or BAITING. Why else do so? If it was real and he was carrying it to his shop, it should have been cased and/or in the original box. Bad decision on his part. This is 2014 folks. The good old days of gun ownership is gone forever!   With all the gun crime in the US today, shootings and robberies every single minute in this country, what public reaction do you expect when walking around with an assault rifle? I'm like a couple other folks on here, 'I don't need that kind of PR representation. I'll represent myself just fine, and do so without instilling fear into people to get them to think how I want them to think. When we carry firearms for the purpose of "getting people used to seeing them", that's no different in MY OPINION, than Adolph Hitler and the Nazi party instilling fear into people to get them to think the way THEY wanted them to.   We're losing ground every single day, so I think a "low profile" with a firearm is the way to go.   We as legitimate gun owners are not going to win popular public opinion by exposing people to guns that want nothing to do with them.     Good day.   Dave
