  1. Four items I just had my faith in humanity restored, if for just a little while. I have a lot on my mind with my wife's upcoming surgery and my dad's fight with pancreatic cancer. Needless to say I have a lot on my mind. I stopped at the grocery store to pick up just a few ingredients to cook dinner with. I went to the express lane because I only had four items. A lady and her daughter were in front of me. I was staring off into space and I heard the lady say, "put his on my bill." I guess I looked at her like she had three heads and tried to tell her she didn't need to do that The lady replied, "We are doing a random act of kindness. We are paying it forward. Some one did it for us now we are doing it for you." I just about broke down there and manged to say thank you to her and her daughter. I told them about Suzanne's surgery and dad's cancer and tried to tell her how much this meant. However my mouth and tongue did not want to work and my eyes got a little watery. It was such a humbling experience for a total stranger to do that. It was not the dollar amount because the four items were less than $10.00. It was just the fact that she did it. It was such a simple thing for her to do but it touched me today in an unique way. I need to look around and realize there are so many little random acts of kindness I could and should do everyday. Pay it forward, you will never know how much it touches the person you reach out to.

  2. They're going to contest the vote because they are sure it was tampered with. They are certain they stuffed enough extra ballots in the box to swing it their way. Someone must have removed those extras.  :stir:

Once in they do very little for the worker other than suck union dues from the worker. There is tons of videos of the tactics they use and it is scary. Imagine 50 people show up in front of your house with loudspeakers screaming lies about you.[/quote] Imagine those people's reaction if they showed up at most of our homes - nuff said

  7. I dunno, how many troops have we committed to a country the size of Texas and we still can't control it?  The only parts of Afghanistan that are under control of the government and ISAF troops are the parts that are physically occupied by some kind of security forces.  Step foot outside the city and you're in Taliban country.  Even if the US had committed 1/2 million troops to Afghanistan we could never hope to secure it to a level where the enemy is no longer capable of making war.  You can kill enemy all day but you can't kill an idea unless you engage it total war; that means destroying every house, killing or imprisoning every fighting aged male, starving women and children and driving them from their lands as refugees.   The US government would have to engage in total war against the American people in order to stop a rebellion.  As long as that government is freely elected they would never stay in power long enough to fight.  They would be replaced by leaders who would be forced to come to the bargaining table or forced out of office.  That's how insurgencies work.  Even if martial law was declared it wouldn't change much other than throwing more volunteers for the insurgents and more people protesting against their government.   I'm not condoning armed rebellion, just pointing out that it isn't correct to think that our military could handle one.  Technology, superior equipment, superior weapons and superior training are only good when fighting against conventional armies.  It means dick when fighting an insurgency.

  9. Your sarcasm is well meant but errant. The government has an application to intervene when it is Constitutional to do so. That is the very nature and created purpose of the US/State government. We agree with government when government is operating within it's created purpose. It is not an all or nothing proposition.   BTW somebody will always be telling someone else what to do. Whether it's the Constitution or a progressive liberal. I and the founding fathers prefer that it be principals of absolute truth that restrains overzealous individuals or governments from imposing arbitrary personal will.

  10. Sure glad I am not a VW employee down there right now cause if a bunch of thugs showed up on my front lawn with megaphones screaming at me it would get really ugly really quick and I would settle it redneck style with a Biden 12 gauge and rock salt. I have seen how those thugs work when I was young and growing up and they think they are above the law. If they are on my front lawn I am the law. I have a feeling either way these guys are going home without a union in VW.   They need to learn that folks in the south  don't push as easy as folks in the North do. You pick a fight with one person down here and you have pretty much picked a fight with the entire town. People up north close their windows and try to ignore these clowns and their high pressure tactics. People down here join forces and stand up with their neighbors..................jmho

  11. Choice is sacred to the left - but only as long as you choose correctly.  No doesn't mean no.  Now if there were any possibility of faking ballots, they'd have 'won' already - but since they can't fake it they'll lawyer it - take it to the NLRB and claim that 'outside influence' by a Tennessee Senator was wrong, although the 'outside influence' by Obama was just fine.

  13. this guy handled this well: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f6e_1392219642   When this off-duty sergeant with Cook County SO is pumping gas at a convenience store, three POSs rob him at gunpoint. The sergeant distracts the lead POS with his wallet, then draws and fires, killing the robber. True to fashion, the other two flee like cowards. Great job, #wolfhunter. Glad you are safe. Also, kudos to the mother of the dead sixteen year old robber, who came out in support of the officer. She said the officer had no choice when confronted with a gun. She also plead for the other two to surrender, and begged them to turn their lives around so they wouldn't end up like her son.

  14. I grew up in the North were the Unions thrived back in the 50's and 60's. The UAW, The USS Worker unions, The Teamsters, The Dock Workers and so on and so forth. When the EPA was created and they set upon their first target the Auto Industry why didn't the unions step up and say Whoa, Hold on just a second and lets rethink your plans here. Instead they sat back and did nothing except continue to collect their Union Dues. When the EPA turned their attention to the Steel mills after destroying the auto maker companies that began putting demands on the Steel Mills that they knew would be impossible goals and the almighty Iron and Steel Workers unions stood stood idly by and never say whoa wait just a minute and lest look at these so called new rules and regulations and see if we can't work something out. Nope they sat there on their hands with their mouths shut and did exactly nothing to help all those Iron and Steel workers save their jobs. The Teamsters Union is another joke that did nothing to help their members when things began to go down the tubes. But they still expected to collect their union dues just like the UAW did and the Steel Workers unions did right up to the bitter end when the jobs were going to China. I guess people have given up looking for Jimmy Hoffa Sr. by now but Jr. is walking right in his foot steps. There was videos back last year during that Teachers Strike in Wisconsin when they recalled the newly elected Governor for a new vote when he had to make some tough decisions about the over whelming money the state was paying to their teachers and it was because of the Teachers union demands and he refused to meet the demands and raise taxes and in the videos it showed thugs beating people and knocking people down and kicking them because they were against the union demands.  The union got their recall vote and the Governor elect got re-elected by even a larger margin than he did in the first election. The Union didn't get the demands and the teachers went back to work with a cut in benefits the union was demanding.  Someone mentioned in an earlier post that people have smartened up to Unions. Yes they have and the days of the Strong Arm Threatening Union organizers are pretty much over. I think a great many people saw that last year in Wisconsin....................jmho

  15. There's lots of bandwidth and pontification in the last couple of pages of posts in this thread about the role of government (...both federal and state...) in chilling the effect of "workers right to organize"... The fact is that there was some; and it wuz mandated by none other than Uncle Sam himself...The fact is that Uncle Sam always comes down on the side of the union in organizing... The great god FDR enshrined that because he was, in fact, a socialist; as were lots of other Ivy League educated "intellectuals" in his day...That's why there is an NLRB and a genuine federal backing of the concept of "collective bargaining"....In any union organizing activity; the union always has the backing of the federal government....There aint a bigger bully than Uncle Sam when he takes the notion to be one.... More that that; he's armed... both with laws, courts, and the bayonet; and he is spendin your and my tax money to make it stick...   The "right to work" laws which are being vilified by some here were codified in the 50's as an attempt to control the rampant use of unions and thug tactics to coerce people to join the union... It allowed for the individual state governments to adopt a "right to work" provision in their individual state... Simply stated, the "right to work" thing allowed for union membership to be optional; not compulsory; just as it should be in a truly free society... The "closed shop" mandated compulsory union membership as a pre-requisite to work.... I dont know about you; but that dont sound too "American" and "free" ta me; but that's just me....   Some here on this forum and some of those on the outside who are apparatchiks of the UAW would have us believe that "Snozz Haslam" and Bob Corker are so powerful and so scary that they "coerced" the workers of VW not to join the union and likened their public pronouncements concerning the chilling effect of unionization at VW to "improper", even semi-criminal, abuse of public trust by an elected officials; both state and federal...   The fact is that both "Snozz" and Corker have their right to an opinion; and the public expression of those opinions regarding issues of public concern just like us fellow posters here do... More than that; in an unusually lucid moment for the both of them; i think they told the Gospel Truth...   The union never causes any business to get any bigger; it causes it to get smaller... Look at the american auto industry for proof....   The fact of the matter is that this country is built upon the proposition that everyone gets a say in the public forum regarding issues of public interest; and this certainly is one... Folks; ya cant have this First Amendment thing muzzled or slanted one way... You have to hear all sides of all arguments whether you agree with them or not; and that is exactly what happened here; its called "free speech" and the "arena of ideas".... a very important part of any free society....  If ya dont like public officials, ya can mount a campaign to vote them out; but it aint right (...nor is it legal...) to try to muzzle their opinions; just as it aint right to try to muzzle my or your opinions....   Remember this; the UAW had the blessing of the VW corporate management, the German IG Metall union, and the Federal Government on their side on this thing and they lost.... I think it is hilarious on the face of it; and on a more sober and intellectual note; it is a great testament to the insight and wisdom of those who are currently working at this facility...   The manufacturing unions are dead... They just aint been buried yet... Again; i say:"...good riddance...". Loosing the dammed manufacturing unions will make this country a better place...   leroy

  17. Murder and justified homicide are one and the same, just depends on your perspective... doesn't it?   Did Nat Turner murder his master, or was it justified homicide?     For those who don't know who Nat Turner was, he led a very bloody slave rebellion in 1831 in Southampton, VA.   The answer to that question really comes down to this question...  Was Nate Turner a freeman immorally and unlawfully enslaved?  Or were his children, and children's children only granted freedom by the Government in 1865?  If they were granted freedom by the Government, does that mean the Government can take that freedom away?   There are a number of valid arguments...  one when Nat decided to take his freedom back, he was no longer bound by a social contract he wasn't a party to, and therefore reverted to a natural man with no obligation to follow any laws in restoring that freedom...   Or that Nat was immorally and unlawfully enslaved and therefore was justified in using whatever force was needed to escape slavery and wage war on those who would enslave him and his kin.   Finally, some might believe because slavery was constitutional in 1831, Nat was a murderer because he violated the law of VA in the process of trying to escape, and wage war on those who would enslave him.   I'll be honest I fear people who believe the latter to be true...     If a party to a contract willfully violates that contract, then the contract is null and void...  therefore all the laws and agreements formed under that contract would also be null and void...   I'd not advocating that anybody take legislators out and hang them from lamp posts...  only saying I'm half surprised it hasn't happened... and I'm not sure the parties involved might not be morally justified in doing so...  as freemen who have had their rights violated and their freedom threatened.   Nat Turner was no hero...  but I wouldn't call him a murderer either.

  19. Yes he is but ANY governor of Tennessee should have opposed the UAW in this instance. Tennessee has a vested (financial) interest both in terms of revenue as well as what the state gave to VW to open their plant here. Since VW didn't seem to care whether their plant went union or not somebody needed to step in and speak for the state's interest (which means OUR interest if we live here and pay taxes here). Whether it was Haslam, or whoever got elected four years ago.

  24. Yeah...yeah...yeah...they put out the same "BIG TALK" at Nissan back a few years ago when they last tried to get Nissan to vote in their piece of crap union and Nissan employees rejected them 3 to 1.   The only thin the UAW is good for is protecting worthless, employees who need to be fired...for the 95% of the rest of a plant's workforce all they are is a huge drain on their pay while giving to politicians that most of the workforce probably detest. Thankfully, the good folks at VW were smart enough to see that and make the right decision.

  26. Not ALL instances of defensive use of a pistol are inside 3 yards. And under TN law you ABSOLUTELY CAN use lethal force in defense of a third party (someone else).    I know of 2 cases of defensive use of a pistol IN TENNESSEE that were 37 yards and 20 yards respectively. Also you have the Fairchild AFB shooting where Andy Brown shot the AK wielding gunman with his Beretta 92 from 70 yards away. Remember the Aurora theater shooting?  How long a shot might that it have been if someone in one of the back rows had been armed and decided to try to stop James Holmes?     A bigger gun simply gives you more options. That does not mean small guns are useless...it simply means that a bigger gun gives you more options. If I ever found myself in a situation where a 25 yard shot might stop a mass shooting I'd MUCH rather have a Glock 17 (or even a 19) than just a J frame. On the other hand what are the odds of us ever being present when a mass shooting event kicks off? Who knows?   If you need to carry a tiny gun then carry a tiny gun. That is much better than having NO gun.  If you can make it work for you to carry a bigger gun then you simply have more bases covered.

No. 1067 (Statement of purpose: To protect innocent Americans from violent crime in national parks and refuges.)  He was the only Republican Senator to do so.  When Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe vote for an issue and you vote against it, how Lautenberg do you have to be to be anti-gun?

  30. Well the burden of what to do with it is now off my shoulders. I gave it back to him after I learned that his youngest son Casey had been hoping someday his father would pass the rifle down to him. Butch called me this morning and asked if he could have it back because he found out that Casey wanted it but never would ask him straight out for it. I was more than glad to give it back to him so he could pass it down to Casey. I think he is going to take it over to Casey's home soon as he left here. Problem solved and no ones feelings hurt I hope. Thank all of you for your help in identifying the gun and it's origin. Now if I run into an opportunity to get another one I will at least have an idea what I would be getting......

  34. The 7th and the 9th Federal District Courts have fallen right in line with the SCOTUS and Heller. The Illinois State Supreme Court has ruled that infringing on carry off your property is a violation of the 2nd amendment. Who here that has been in this battle for the last 40 years ever thought they would see this much action in a couple of years. The 7th and the 9th making pro-gun rulings????? I got really frustrated when some of the folks here new to this said we need to take baby steps. We have been doing that all our lives. Some of these crazy laws being passed in other states will not stand. But don’t let what’s going on in those states get you so upset you forget what’s going on here. 36. A Jim Crow law placed on the necks of TN Citizens by the Democrats in 1870 to make sure they could keep the freed slaves defenseless. The whole "but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime." was simply added to give power where it had previously never existed, the previous verbiage being (1796 version) Article 11 Section 26  "That the free men of this State have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defence."  Free men have "Rights", governments are granted "power" by the People that truly make up that government.  If We the People allow government to overstep their bounds, then the shame is on us.
