6. Guys, we're overlooking a major flaw in our planning. A badge, sash, or shield only identify us when we're tactically moving from concealment to cover. "What about when we're driving?" you ask? Problem solved:

 7. Does the block have "ACME" written on it?  It was probably part of a very intricate plan that the coyote had to catch the rabbit, but it backfired.

 8. I think there is another big thing we can take away from this. Note that the one intruder with the pistol was determined and tried to take another run at the door. Many people believe that at the sight or sound of a gun an intruder will go running. As we see, that's not always the case. We (everyone that owns a weapon) must be prepared to do what is necessary to stop that threat to our lives and our loved ones. I'm certainly glad this story had a happy ending, but from the bullet holes in the videos I saw that poor mother was just spraying and praying. Practice, practice, practice. Don't count on that criminal to run simply because you have a weapon. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

 10. Badges are much too small to be seen in a firefight. That's why I'm commited to preaching the advantages of an HCP sash. That's why I'm doing a group buy of TGO-HCP sashes. Any of our TGO Vendors willing to handle the paperwork for that?

 20. So for the last few years, I've kind of wanted to get into making some blades, but haven't. Time and lack of tooling really put a damper on my plans. I told myself that I would start when I could find a decent deal on a grinder, but never got around to it. Well fast forward to the holidays last year, and I had a little time on my hands. I decided to give it a go without the expensive tooling and do it by hand. Here are the results of my efforts with nothing but hand tools - hacksaw, a couple of good files, and various sandpapers. This started as a piece of 3/16" O1 tool steel. Cutting it with the hacksaw didn't take nearly the time I thought it was going to. I have a bandsaw, but in the spirit of "handmade", wanted to try it with the hacksaw. I'd say it took about an hour to cut the profile. I then proceeded to clean it up with the files, and let me just say that a good file, kept clean can really remove some metal. I put together a jig to hold the blade, and each side took about an hour and a half to get where I wanted it. Mind you, I likely could have cut this down some, but my kids wanted to help and I went slow to keep from screwing it up. I finished the blade by getting it non-magnetic with a torch and a quench in warm oil. I then heat treated in a small oven a couple of different times. I wish I had taken some pictures of the blade at this point. The scales are some cedar heartwood I recovered. I sharpened it on a standard Lansky set and finished on a strop. I really put it through some torture and it held its edge better than a lot of factory knives I've owned. I'd say my overall time spent was about 8 hours. Here is the finished product: I guess the moral of this story is don't let a lack of power tooling stop you from doing something fun.

 22. Okay, you're a little right and a little wrong here. The point I was making about you finding the idea of revolt so ridiculous when we have a system to vote out our crappy leaders is that it is ironic you would have the same dismissive attitude towards someone using that vote toward a candidate they support, regardless of their chances. Isn't that the right way, after all? How can you, in one breath, say that armed resistance against opposition is silly so long as we have the power to vote yet in the same breath say it's silly to use that vote for anyone other than a member of the very ruling class we might oppose? Do you see why I would point that out? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

 24. This dog was killed during a contest. The wood block is set in the mouth right after the kill. A random word or code is given to the hunters just before the hunt starts. That word is written on the block and placed in the mouth of a freshly killed coyote. This keeps people from cheating during the contest. The tape is used to keep the block from falling out of the mouth while the coyote is being dragged out of the woods. If the jaw locks you can't get it back open. I've never hunted a contest and never really wanted to, but I don't have a problem with it either. I've trapped a bunch in the last 6-7 years. I'm not heartless, mean, or psycho. I've helped friends and farmers keep their pets and livestock and I don't regret it for a second.

Been there myself on the cattle lost 4 Angus calves in the last couple years to coyotes they need removed they originally are not even native to this area and before you PETA people jump on me I know cattle are not native species either but they at least serve a purpose did find a solution though turned an ornery little jack (donkey) in with the cows and he keeps dogs and coyotes chased away -Dusty-

 28.
Are you serious about "competition hunting"? Man, I must be living in a time warp. What sick mind thought up this?
I've been doing competition coon hunting since I was little, and so has my dad who is 60 this year. Its not a new trend by any means. And I don't really consider it sick, coyotes are a nuisance and have cost me and my family a lot of money and headache harrassing cattle. Whats the difference in killing 3 or 4 on the weekend and killing 3 or 4 in a competition hunt. Either way the coyote gets killed quickly with a gunshot. Tapatalk ate my spelling

Also my buddy owns an offroad shop here in town and does a fair bit of differential work, i'd trust him not to take advantage. If you're not going to be down this way i'll call next time i'm up your way if you don't have it fixed by then.

 40.   Heck, if you aim that .22LR at their center of mass then most 'normal' people are probably going to change their behavior pretty quickly.  The problem is, I would think that a large percentage of assailants who would go far enough that you would need to/could legally shoot them are not 'normal'.  My thinking would be that they were either chemically altered, mentally unbalanced, in a complete rage or a member of a subculture (i.e. gang) in which getting shot is much more a commonplace occurrence that it is to most 'normal' people.   I live and generally spend most of my time in low risk/low threat level areas.  To my knowledge I also don't have any true enemies.  The chances of me being attacked - while always a possibility - are pretty slim.  The flip side is that if I am attacked then the assailant likely won't be a 'normal' person.  Instead, the assailant will likely be a meth-head or a nut-job (or a meth-head nut-job) rather than simply the type of opportunistic criminal that might be a factor in a higher crime area.  That line of thinking leads me to believe that if I am threatened then it is not likely to be by the type of assailant that would probably turn and run at just the sight of a gun.  Even given that, my most often carried firearm is my j-frame stoked with .38 +P and I do carry a P3AT occasionally - when I need something really flat and easily concealable - but I expect to have to fire more than one shot to stop the threat.  Personally, I believe that a 9mm, .40 and .45 would all be about equally effective in such a situation.  I don't know that I would be comfortable carrying a .22 as a primary for those reasons (although a BUG is a different story.)  Just something I thought I'd throw out there.

 43.   Thanks for clearing this up, learn something everyday.   I think I would have removed the block if I didn't have any other options. Maybe someone was going to come back and pick it up?   My late Uncle was also a tobacco farmer and hated coyotes, he would shoot them but his neighbor had livestock. His neighbor would string a wire from a tree limb with a large treble hook on it just high enough for a coyote to jump at, baited. I had forgotten how much farmers hated them.

 44. Some of my most proud moments occurred during my last year of active service in 1973 with the 101st Airborne Div., 2/17th Air Cav. That year I had volunteered and was selected for burial detail for veteran(s) funerals.   Attention to detail, precision and military conduct were paramount. My class A uniform was flawless with ribbons and attire worn correctly. We spent hours spit shining our jump boots (on our personal time) to a mirror gloss. For some reason the command didn't allow a relatively new military offering, the Patten leather jump boot.   The three of us spent many hours practicing the 21 round drill, military movements, marching, etc. The blanks we used and how undependable they cycled and continuing the salute as if everything was still in order. Meticulously folding the American flag and presenting it to the widow, mother or family member and internally reminding yourself not to let your eyes water or show any emotion, you represent the Army. The honor I felt being a small last part of a fellow veterans internment and the gratitude of the veteran's family still fills my heart.   I believe during that year I participated in around a dozen or so burials. I don't remember a time where the family members didn't invite us to the American Legion, VFW or their own homes for drinks and a meal. As a representative of the uniformed service, with appreciation and respect we naturally had to decline.

 47. Meh, for the most part, using modern defense ammo an assailant who is shot with a 9mm is just as shot as one that is shot with a .40 or a .45 - and vice versa all over the place. If we were limited to ball ammo and expansion weren't a factor then I could see an argument for the 'bigger' .45 bullet being superior but we aren't, it is and I don't. It isn't like any of them are a .357 magnum :pleased: (sorry, couldn't resist.) Being that I believe 9mm to be just as potentially effective as .40 or .45 on any, given assailant (which means any of them might stop a threat with one shot or any of them might fail to stop a threat with several shots), I can't bring myself to accept that .45 ammo is worth two or three times the price of 9mm. With .40, ammo is more expensive than 9mm but not as expensive as .45. Further, if one were buying their first pistol I could see an argument for .40 in that so many LEAs have gone that direction, meaning ammo might be easier to come by at times. Beyond that, given that I don't think companies will stop making 9mm any time soon I don't see any reason to abandon the 9mm I already have in favor of a .40.
