A man died and went to The Judgment, they told him , “Before you meet with God, I should tell you — we’ve looked over your life, and to be honest you really didn’t do anything particularly good or bad. We’re not really sure what to do with you. Can you tell us anything you did that can help us make a decision?†The newly arrived soul thought for a moment and replied, “Yeah, once I was driving along and came upon a person who was being harassed by a group of thugs. So I pulled over, got out a bat, and went up to the leader of the thugs. He was a big, muscular guy with a ring pierced through his lip. Well, I tore the ring out of his lip, and told him he and his gang had better stop bothering this guy or they would have to deal with me!†“Wow that’s impressive, “When did this happen?†“About three minutes ago,â€5 points

Ok, finally had a minute to put the 2nd one together. This one is all for me. Did a quick 10 round function test. Hopefully I will get a chance to zero the red dot this week. Upper, lower, and bolt courtesy of CMT Coating from CCR Trigger (Geissele) and Rail (Troy) from VTAC VLTOR buffer stuff Aimpoint T-1 on a LaRue mount and Tango down cover Surefire flash hider & a couple of Magpul goodies Not included (yet) Tax Stamp from Uncle Sam - check back in about 365 days apparently... Mucho thanks to all my invisible internet friends here who either asked the questions I needed the answer to or answered the questions I needed answers to. And, thanks to a very understanding wife for her never ending patience... Mark4 points

So I was reading another forum, and some members were discussing how to stock up on asthma inhalers, which can be critical for some people. They are specifically called meter-dosed inhalers. Ever since they changed the propellant from ozone-killing to ozone safe, those inhalers have gone up in price tremendously, and it did not appear cheap to stock up on inhalers. Someone mentioned a bicycle pump nebulizer, so I Googled it: http://littledevices.org/2013/08/10/diyneb/ My son had to use a nebulizer when he was much younger. We still have all the tubing, masks, and nebulizer pump. To test out if it is a viable alternative, I connected a piston bicycle pump to the tubing (it came with an attachment for filling inflatable things that worked perfectly). Instantly after the first pump, vapor started coming from the cup. I was surprised because I guess I always assumed that nebulizer technology was more complicated. If I pumped continuously, I could vaporize all the liquid in the cup. I have researched the cost of albuterol ampules because we occasionally have cats come in with asthma attacks. Since albuterol is an old drug, it appears to be relative cheap (when not in inhaler form), and thus could be stocked up if you had access or a prescription. One person on the message board suggested that vets with breathing problems often get a whole bunch from the VA. One of my veterinary pharmacy teachers (a PharmD) was talking about Xopenex vs albuterol. My understanding is that the drug company convinced a bunch of pediatricians that Xopenex was better, but they basically have the same effect. I think that I used an albuterol inhaler when I was young (some 30+ years ago). We haven't had to use the nebulizer for years, but I'm pretty sure Xopenex cost a lot more than albuterol. I just thought that I would share this with anyone who depends on an inhaler. While not as portable and efficient, a human-powered nebulizer might provide a good back up to an inhaler.3 points

This ^^ There are a lot of felons in the hood that ha e weapons illegally, why don't they walk through there and disarm them? Because they will het called racist, get attacked in riot style, and shot at. They are attacking law abiding citizens with a false sense of security believing that they will not fight back. I know some won't, but these liberals don't want crime down, they want people who oppose them disarmed.3 points

Traded off my M14 for something a little different. I needed a cheap on gas commuter and found this on a facebook gun trader site. Its a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. I replaced the battery and redid the turnsignals where the rubber stalks had rotted off and I'm off and riding. I had about $1300 in the rifle, and I kept my vortex scope. I've rode the bike around here some, and I'm going tomorrow to get tags and my M endorsment. I've been on dirt bikes my whole life, and rode a few street bikes, but this is my first street bike that I own completely, and will be riding the wheels off this thing. I'm gonna change a few things to suit my taste, but here it is. Tapatalk ate my spelling2 points

Well, after last weeks thread on the thief in Chattanooga, as well as watching some different threads along the way about home security, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase a video surveillance system. I travel a lot and feel like this at least gives me the ability to check on my house and with the motion detection, hopefully be alerted if something really odd is going on. After a ton of research on cctvforum, I ended up going with an NVR and IP camera's so I could get the higher resolution. It was certainly a bit more expensive than a DVR, but I am not sure by a lot. I know there was some discussion about POE in another thread and I think that seemed to be the easiest install option so the one I bought has 8 channels, all POE enabled. I wanted something that was as much self contained as possible. I could have built a PC and went with a software NVR, but this will use less power. I am going to start with 5 cameras (2-3MP with IR for outside and 3-1.3MP with IR for inside). I am really curious how this is all going to turn out. I think I got a really good deal on everything, I just need to buy whatever size hard drive I want (will probably get a 3TB) and some new Cat6 for the runs. I am not an expert by any means, but if you are looking for a residential system and want to go IP with an NVR, feel free to ask questions and I will tell you why I decided to get what I did. Dahua is of course a Chinese manufacturer and you have to be careful who you buy from, but I bought from a reputable dealer and am confident I will be able to get support if needed. If anyone is interested the things I bought to check on if you are in the market, they are: (1)Dahua NVR5208-P (1)Dahua IPC-HDW2100 (2)Dahua IPC-HFW4300s (2)Dahua IPC-HFW2100s I feel like I got a great deal. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will let you know where I got all of it. To give you an idea, these items were $1184. If you look it all up and compare, you will see that it is a good deal on these items. I will definitely upload some info when I get it up and running. Pretty excited to get started actually.2 points

This is some quality reading. An open letter from the three percenters to Connecticut Law Enforcement. Let's assume that there are 100,000 non-compliant owners of military pattern semi-automatic rifles in your state. I think it is a larger number but 100,000 has a nice round ring to it. Let us then apply the rule of three percent to that number -- not to the entire population of your state, not even to the number of firearm owners, but just to that much smaller demonstrated number of resistors. That leaves you with at least 3,000 men and women who will shoot you if you try to enforce this intolerable act upon them. http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/2014/02/an-open-letter-to-men-and-women-of.html2 points

I adjusted the primer to seat fully and this solved the problem. I reloaded and shot 5 rounds (primer only) without a problem. Back to the range this week and shoot a few more fully loaded to see if this really solves my problem. Thanks to everyone who commented. Dirty Gun2 points

It's one (...or several of...) three things.... Primers not seated fully... I always check 'em and seat with a hand seater to fix this problem; but ive got plenty of time to do this sort of thing... Crimp (...like dolomite says...) too tight... I like his advice about just flaring the case enough to get the bullet started seating; and no crimp... We always checked 'em the "poor boy" way by takin the barrel out and using it for a case gage... If the loaded round dropped down in the barrel passed the hood it wuz crimped too much (...i like the "no crimp" thing if ya can do it; or with the hard kickers; use just about a .001 to .002 crimp with a taper crimp die--- measure with a dial caliper...)... Three; the firing pin channel and pin is dirty and dragging... Fix by cleanin it up.... My bet is primers or crimp.... hope this helps a bit... leroy2 points

Another thing these idiot authoritarian politicians need to think about once one story of storm troopers killing some citizen while raiding their house to seize their guns, is not only will they start decent patriots rising up in arms,(possibly literally), they will give an excuse to the probable thousands of Timothy McVeigh's waiting and wanting something to happen.2 points

You are putting too much of a crimp on the case mouth. There should be enough case mouth for a fingernail to grab. You are lucky they did not fire. If the bullet is far enough in the chamber the throat can keep the case mouth from releasing the bullet. And when that happens pressures get astronomical pretty fast. You should be flaring the case mouth then remove the flare and not crimp. You should be able to see the full thickness of the case mouth.2 points

They can do it. It'll just take time and a few SWAT teams. Plus, they might try to make an example out of the first few houses they go to so they can scare the rest in to compliance. Maybe kicking in the door, a couple gun owners getting killed, or getting really long jail times, etc. How did Hitler do what he did? Just saying. Anything is possible.2 points
-
I don't think they want a fight. I also think they may be too arrogant/stupid to avoid one. If one does break out, it might be hard to put a lid on it. Hopefully, they're seeing the chatter on the Internet, and will realize that they're poking the bear.2 points

I will say that when the weather turns warmer there definitely is more crime, especially assaults. I know when I worked in LE we dreaded the first really nice weekend because it always was busy because all the people who were indoors for the winter months finally got out and acted like a bunch if idiots. There definitely is more crime in the summer than in the winter.2 points

Yep, there is no federal law regarding that to be changed. Which, just like "universal recognition" of carry permits, is a good thing. As Dave says, that's another precedent we don't want. - OS1 point

With good shot placement, the .223 will do the job, but I think it is a little light for hogs. Smaller pig like javelinas... sure. But a 300 lb russian boar... Personally, I like a little knock down power. The .45-70 fits that bill nicely. It will give you excellent penetration from any angle and is much more forgiving of less than optimal shot placement. I've also had excellent, though less dramatic, results with the .308 using remington core-lokt in 180gr. I've taken a couple that way and we recovered the bullet (perfectly mushroomed) from under the skin on the far side from both boars.1 point

I prefer DST. If we were to stop doing DST, the "standard work day" needs to change from 8-5 to 6:30-3:30. That's another reason why I hate winter... I go to work in the dark and I come home in the dark.1 point
I generally tend to agree...if I'm going to be static in a confined area (ie movie theater...go figure) where cover or movement is limited or non-existant, then I'm wearing a vest. If I'm mobile, probably not, unless there is a significant potential threat...(going to recover the daughter and broken down car in the hood at 1 am in which case there is definitely a ..."WTF were you doing in this part of town at this hour..." ass chewing that is going to occur). With regard to being mobile, the tactical response in my view is get the hell out of the area first (it is NOT my job to move towards gunfire). If I can't do that, it is to take up a covered/concealed position which causes a "fatal funnel" for the bad guy and the element of suprise and oppportunity to shoot first, at fairly close range to ensure good shot placement and multiple hits (preferably the head) because I don't know if he is wearing body armor or not.
Body armor? Head shots?? I'm not being rude, but what kind of place do you live in? The world is a dangerous place, and carrying a firearm is just smart practice. But if you are in a place where you feel the need for body armor, then your gonna need a rifle. And head shots? I can't think of a single instructor I have ever heard in the civilian world or while I was in the Marines, that would advocate trying to get head shots. Especially using a pistol in a self defense situation. Tapatalk ate my spelling.1 point
