  1.     These two statements are really important, and provide some clarity in this argument that should be carefully considered.   As has been said many times here before, "statists are gonna state." It's the nature of the beast.  All three of our branches of government are guilty of power grabbing.  This isn't a new thing.  It's been happening since the very beginning of our country.  It's expanded under republican leadership.  It's expanded under democratic leadership.  It's expanded under non-partisan guises simply because it's the government thing to do.  People don't go to Washington to reign in the government.  Even if they talk "small government," they go to Washington because they think they know better than everyone else how to run it.  They're going to grab power where they can...all of them.   There are things that the average American should be concerned about.  Warrantless surveillance, drone strikes, no-knock raids and gun confiscation all qualify as things to be concerned about.  Some of them not simply because they violate our "rights", but also because we're better than that and ought to be asking harder questions instead of taking the easy way out.  BUT, there's still a gulf of separation between where we are now, and a drone killing someone without oversight on American soil or the government going door to door in Connecticut and grabbing peoples' guns.    Perspective matters, and we have to keep that in mind to avoid be marginalized as "tinfoil hatters."  There's a lot of distance between where we are today and needing load up our magazines.  Unfortunately, when our rhetoric focuses on hanging politicians from the yardarm we neglect the most basic action that our founding fathers gave us to take back control.    Vote.  Get out there and get involved.  Blog about it.  Speak about it in the media.  Talk to your neighbors in your community.  Don't let the big guys control the dialogue simple because of their size.  If the internet has given mankind one thing, it has given voice to the common man in ways it's never happened before.  Don't squander that voice.   The vast majority of our members on this forum are here because of their love of guns.  But remember, shots fired in anger will change this American experiment in ways that cannot be undone.  Your life will not be the same.  You won't go home to suburbia and get on with your life.  What follows won't resemble what was.   There may come a day when armed conflict comes again to our shores - even from within. But, we're a long way from that day.  And, our actions today can prevent that day from coming.    You have more power than any citizen in the world has ever had.  People are giving their lives worldwide right now for just a taste of the power that we take for granted.  Go out there and use it!

  4. I had a similar incident happen when my son was a senior at Northwest High in Clarksville. He and I went deer hunting on a Sunday and he harvested a deer. In handling the deer he had gotten some blood on his jacket. Sunday evening, it got put in the washer but not the dryer. Monday morning as he was getting ready to head out to school, he asked if he could borrow my jacket as his wasn't dry enough to wear. I said yes. Later that morning I received a call from the school to come and get him as he had been suspended for three days for having an unfired rifle shell in the jacket pocket. When I unloaded the round out of my rifle the day prior, I just put it in my pocket. Totally my fault, and was an over site on my part. I fought and fought with the school board over his suspension. It was too no avail! I have put three kids, and four grandkids through school here, and I can say in all honestly, that the Clarksville Montgomery County School System has go to be one of the worst in the country! Their "Zero Tolerance" policy needs more than a little fine tuning!!!!   PS: While he was suspended from school, he hunted everyday and harvested a very nice 8 point buck. When he went back to school he made sure he showed that buck's picture to the teacher who got him suspended and thanked him for the time off! I have taught my children to respect persons of authority, but as a Dad, you have to overlook some things, sometimes!   DaveS

  9.   Hold on a second there.  Is the NSA spying a conspiracy? Is the DHS wanting a database of everyone's movement conspiracy?  Did you imagine it would come to this?  That's not to mention the plethora of scandals.   Not to speak for anyone else but I for one am not saying there is some master conspiracy going on.  What I see is a slow decent down the spiral to total surveillance and no one seems to care about, because heck; it's crazy talk.   The folks most likely to bring up FEMA camps and Obama the dictator on here are folks maligning others with the words conspiracy and tinfoil.   Let's pray that nothing more comes of it and that the .gov will have a come to Jesus and change it's ways.  My perception is that aint going to happen cause folks don't care.

  12.   I live in Bristol - so the "state just north of us" is literally only 300 yards from my house.  And you are correct about the legality of non-concealed carry there.  I made this same argument to our mayor during the uproar over TN's restaurant carry law in 2009 - we were standing on the TN side of State Street, and I pointed to an alcohol-serving restaurant across the street in VA and asked him just what it was about TN citizens that made us unable to live incident-free under the same rules that those less than 30 yards from us could?

  16.       And there it is.  By the time a large number of parents start thinking about teaching their kids about such things, it's way too late.  By the time the kid is 16-18 yrs old, you're pretty much done as a parent.  Personality traits, spending/saving habits, work ethic... it's all pretty well set by then.  If you haven't spent the prior 10 yrs teaching them those lessons and concepts, they're going to spend the next 10 yrs learning them the hard way.

  17. The difference here is teaching your young ones to make the right choices in the absence of guidance versus making their choices for them. I have some experience in this department. The observations I made while going through middle/high school in a community that was much like the original Footloose gave me enough insight to understand how my kids would be raised. I think that people confuse good parenting with reactionary parenting rather than proactive parenting. Once they are teenagers, and you are having to react to unwanted behavior, you're already working against the power curve. The point is to raise them properly and manage from a distance once they become their own people. I have no illusions of cracking down the hammer when my daughter is a teenager. I know what right looks like and there is (9/10) a common denominator in achieving that. Most places in the world a person is an adult at 16. I intend on treating my kids the same when by the time they reach that age, for better or worse. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  22. Traded off my M14 for something a little different. I needed a cheap on gas commuter and found this on a facebook gun trader site. Its a 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. I replaced the battery and redid the turnsignals where the rubber stalks had rotted off and I'm off and riding. I had about $1300 in the rifle, and I kept my vortex scope. I've rode the bike around here some, and I'm going tomorrow to get tags and my M endorsment. I've been on dirt bikes my whole life, and rode a few street bikes, but this is my first street bike that I own completely, and will be riding the wheels off this thing. I'm gonna change a few things to suit my taste, but here it is. Tapatalk ate my spelling

  23. About once a year I represent someone on this type of case out of the Memphis airport. It's always a class A and class B misdemeanor. Not too difficult to get dismissed, but they have to pay something like a $1500 fine to TSA. That plus the lawyer and court fees, plus missing your flight, plus having to get booked and go to court and all that, makes it an expensive and inconvenient mistake. At least it's not a problem to get the gun back once the case is over.

  30. I don't for a moment believe that we are going to see widespread gun confiscation in Connecticut - I don't think these cowardly law makers who passed these ridiculous laws have either the resources to do nor the resources to handle tens of thousands of "felons" all at once nor, frankly, do they have the balls to do it. These lawmakers are nothing but bullies and bullies tend to be afraid of anyone who actually stands against (and I think these idiots in CT are pretty scared right now).   At the same time; I think it worth noting that such has happened before in the U.S. and that it would be short-sighted to think that it cannot happen again.  Certainly; there is substantial evidence that many, especially many in our own government, would love nothing more than to make private ownership of arms illegal.  Acknowledging that does not many one a "tinfoil hat" wearer nor a conspiracy theorists wacko.

  33. I thought about that as well. Maybe the Crowes making a move to become top dogs? Put Boyd in a bad light with the Dixie Mafia as well a possible problem with the Mexicans for the shootout on their soil?

  34. Yes, and that qualifies as government. We know that the nature of government is to consume and expand, in both size and power. I wouldn't classify that as a conspiracy, I would classify that as government. It is up to us to make them care by firing them. Of course, the apathy of the American people won't see that through. So really, if you work out the logic, it's not about the government not caring, it's about the people. We are the boss that hires the government. If we don't care, why would they? As I always say, if you want to blame someone, blame your neighbors. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  36. Its been referred to the Senate Delayed Bills Committee as of Feb 13.  The makeup of that committee:  Ron Ramsey (Chair), Jim Kyle and Mark Norris.  This committee is "Responsible for initial consideration of resolutions calling for joint conventions and study committees and late filed bills and resolutions."  The fat lady has sung.   Think about it for a minute.  The House sponsor won his seat by 4 votes in the last election.  In the House, its been scheduled in Coley's Civ Just Subcmte for March 5 - his self-proclaimed "Gun Bill Day" - where it will have to compete with several other firearms bills, including the parks bill, for precious time in a one-to-two-hour session that's bound to be contentious to begin with.  Dollars to donuts it will be dispensed as "the sponsor takes it off notice" within the first ten minutes of the meeting.  The bill languished for weeks without a Senate sponsor, and was sent to the dead letter office in the Senate the day after it was finally picked up by Campfield (who, bless his heart, just can't seem to find his ass with both hands most days).    But Dennis walks away with a talking point for November, where he can proudly proclaim that "he tried"...like hell he did...this was never intended to be anything more thatn a carefully orchestrated publicity stunt to save another RINOs ass.

  37. A moose "push" to the head with a moose hoof could kill you. The guys likely wearing a helmet but could still be kicked in the throat or chest. A broken collar bone wouldn't be much fun either. One thing I can bet, once you've been pushed once I a moose I'm sure you'd be very keen on not having a repeat performance. Still doesn't change the fact that I think the whole thing could have been handled better and again, probably avoided all together.

  38. That is a broad brush stroke, but that look has been going on since the late 70's from my experience.              I am certain that every generation looks at a few generations down the road and say similar, "Would you look at them kids with their hair slicked back, and their loud rock and roll music racing their V8s up and down the road, it is a shame, back in my day we only had a horse and buggy, and you were home by dark..."

  47. I own one and love it. They were imported by Interarms for awhile. Then they were then made for Interarms under license in Alabama by a company called Ranger before S & W took over the manufacturing and redesigned the frame. The S&W ones are reported to have a lot of problems. Most do not know that Walther has not made a PPK or PPK/s since Nazi Germany. They were made in France by Manurhin the sent to Germany for proofing after WWII.
