Glad I'm not the only person that feels like they are treated like some kind of off their meds extremist for having this view. Guys like this FUDD are a gun owners worst enemy. Regardless of what this guy thinks he does not represent me, he is not on my side. He's nothing but an anti wearing camo and spouting an anti message.4 points

Department of the Treasury ATF Office of Public Information For Immediate Release FY-97-6 Contact: Vickie Saunders Date: November 7, 1996 HAZARDOUS AMMUNITION Washington--The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has been advised by Hirtenberger AG, Hirtenberg, Austria, that certain 9Xl9 mm caliber ammunition produced by Hirtenberger is unsafe for use in any handgun. The manufacturer advises that up to 12 million rounds of this ammunition has recently been sold on the world surplus market. The ammunition can be identified by the following head stamp located on the bottom of the cartridge case 12 O'clock position: HP 3 O'clock position: 90, 91, or 92 6 O'clock position: L7Al 9 O'clock position: the marking of a cross within a circle This ammunition should not be fired. We are not aware of any of this ammunition being imported into the United States. ATF will take action to prevent the commercial importation of this ammunition. So it's official. We found out today that my wife is going to do her residence at Vanderbilt University Med Center. We're sad to leave East Tennessee but very excited about the future. I'm going to be asking for living suggestions and job openings as we prepare for the move but I'll start new threads for that. Just wanted to share the good news. As of 8:00 PM this evening, I just completed my 11th day of being tobacco free. It is all downhill at this point. I gave up a 14 year smoking habit 11 years ago only to switch to a can to 1.5 cans per day of smokeless tobacco. While I was going through some flu-like symptoms at the end of Feb, I told myself that there would be no better time to quit since I already felt like s***. I finished my last dip on Feb 28 at 8:00 PM and haven't looked back since.2 points

... Never short of strong opinions on here! A little fun never hurt. 1) I posted the property to clearly communicate my intentions as a property owner. In case the person was ignorant and of good intent, I have now communicated clearly that I do not wish him (or anyone else I don't know) on my property. 2) The camera (etc.) ideas are to assess whether this is a regular occurrence or not. This is an area of our property that is concealed from the rest. Anyone coming up that creek knows that they are sneaking through other's backyards - almost exclusively out of sight. 3). Boy howdy...I'm curious for those of you who would make light of a man for communicating clearly (for legalities) and gathering more information in order to protect his 6 year old boy and girl.... (I never made a judgement on the fellow, just said it set alarms off for me.). ... .... wonder if you have seen the news lately for Nashville or the rest of the world... and wondering if you have ever had a 6yr old girl (or boy). We are not in the 1970s anymore.2 points

This is an interesting thread with diverse opinions, especially when viewed in the context of all the similar threads regarding .22 ammo over the past few months. Yet it seems that nearly everyone would agree on the following points: 22 LR ammo is still in very high demand with very low supply (I actually read a recent gun mag article which said it was readily available again... what the hell was that author smoking? :pleased:) We would quickly purchase more 22 LR ammo if we can find it at decent prices (seems like $35 or less per brick delivered is the magic number for many) If we do score 22 LR ammo, we do not hesitate to share our good fortune with family, friends, and other forum members (especially kids or new shooters) We dislike, hate, and/or actively hunt down and persecute the resellers or vendors which are price-gouging (seems like anyone selling for $50 or more per brick is lumped into this category regardless of circumstance) The major points of contention and controversy seem to occur when we hear of those who were actually successful at purchasing 22 LR ammo, with reactions to this group being mixed based on the nature of the purchase: "campers" that visit local stores often enough and wait in the stores long enough until they score the ammo as soon as it hits the shelves "insiders" that have special access to local store information or store clerks that allow them to purchase ammo which was not otherwise made available to other customers "online buyers" that happened to find and purchase ammo via special search agents such as Google, AmmoSeek, Slickdeals, GunBot, etc. "lucky folks" who reported just being in the right store at the right time and buying whatever was available at the time, without having camped out Judging from the many posts in this thread and other TGO threads, it seems that most people dislike groups 1 and 2 above, while we fully support and celebrate groups 3 and 4. I tend to agree with this logic. Yet I was torn on the issue of "special links" such as the Cabelas shopping cart links, because they allowed successful purchases for those who had the technical savvy or luck to find out about the special links or process top create their own links, while other customers that were visiting those same sites at the same time would not find any ammo for sale because they did not have the special link info. Now part of me said that the special link info was technically available to anyone that knew how to find or use it, so it initially seemed to be ok, but I also realized that the vast majority of consumers would never know about that link or process so it ended up having the same outcome as "insider" sales with a select few benefitting at the expense of the majority. In the end this was the factor that swayed my opinion against the special links from being fair game, as they would allow a small group of those "in the know" to get what little ammo was available, at the expense of a much larger group (which just happens to include many parents with kids and new shooters) that just didn't find out about the trick. And then what really convinced me was when Cabelas disabled the links from working, as this would seem to be an indicator that they did not originally intend for the ammo to be sold in that manner, and are presumably working to fix that. To those that are disappointed with the special links being disabled, you should remember that Cabelas will still sell the exact same amount of ammo, they will just sell it all via the same "normal" retail method with every consumer having the same chance of finding it in stock, and that is the preferred way in my books. And just for the record, I only purchased 1 brick of ammo from Cabelas when I found a special link on Slickdeals about a week before this TGO thread was ever started, and I did not realize that it was a special shopping cart trick at the time. I have just recently received that ammo and am giving 60% of it away for free on this forum, with the other 40% going to two of my teenage shooters (for free) for their NRA Marksmanship training this spring. This is just my $0.02 worth. I am certain everyone here will have their own opinions, many different than mine and that is awesome. I am not trying to convince anyone, just sharing my perspective and thought process. To each his own, and please don't hate on your fellow TGO members even if they have a different opinion than you. This is a very cool forum which is better than most - let's keep it that way. :up:2 points

I would say it has a lot to do with so many new shooters attending the mixed discipline, 3gun and steel matches. I for one prefer a USPSA style match over IDPA. Lets be honest. In a real world situation, you will reload where and when you can, and will care less if a live round was still in the mag you just dumped. And threat neutralized is exactly that, whether it takes 1 shot or 5. As for the classifier, I have no idea. I do know they have something going on every Sunday now. Great group of people to shoot with too.2 points

You know you're in the north when you are served sugar packets next to your iced tea. What the hell is that? Yankees are to damn lazy to mix the sugar in WITH the tea when it's hot and then pour it over ice. Damn Yankees...2 points

I have friends in most of the states. Got nothing to do with Yankees and Rebels. It's about liberalism, and what happens when a bunch of those psychotic assholes show up in the same place. It's not just something that I despise, it's something that's downright scary. We have had a few new folks show up this weekend from deep in communist America. Now, it's not unusual for the folks on this forum to give the new guy a few pokes to see what he's made of. From what I have seen, we wound up with 3 keepers, and one that got all butt hurt and picked up his toys. If somebody shows up sporting an Obama bumper sticker, somebody is gonna piss on their windshield... doesn't matter where they're from. For example, I'm a huge supporter of the folks in CT that refuse to register their AR's. In fact, I look up to them. Being a bunch of folks that play with guns, with lots of Feinstein's favorites mixed in, some folks may play a little rough. If it's too much to handle, there's always ARFCOM... the kinder, gentler gun forum :)2 points

HOAs are toxic to Ham Radio also. You sign the contract, and you have signed rights away. Funny story - I built my house about 20 years ago, and proceeded to put up 3 radio towers (and later a 4th). The HOA went absolutely apesh!t. I let them rail and threaten me about it for ~18 months, before pointing out to them that they had not read their own paperwork (I had). My part of the hood was never annexed, and I was ~150' outside of the HOA bounds. I am still pariah.2 points

I was looking for something in our employee handbook today and stumbled on this recent change under "causes for forced termination": Possession of a weapon or firearm on company property except when it is kept out of sight in a locked vehicle. Before this, we weren't allowed to have one at all. I'm assuming that this was done to accommodate the new law. At any rate... pretty cool.1 point

Yeah, I'd be the crazy one here, apparently. I'd be mounting covert AV equipment and IR switches to determine patterns, then hiding out on the bank in a ghillie suit in order to wrap this dude up. Thing is, I'd never mind someone from the neighborhood passing through my property. Back where I'm from, my family lives in a rural area with a wide swath of land which they raise cattle on. Neighbors are about 1/4 mile apart, but it's pretty much open borders between everyone. Folks come right over to use the range and we cut through their property frequently on foot or 4 wheeler. It wouldn't raise anyone's hackles to see a neighborhood kid pass over their fence. Strangers, however, would most certainly be greeted with a well armed welcoming party and strongly discouraged from returning if they made it through the event without being hogtied and handed over to the closest deputy. A grown man knows better than to be trespassing like that, which would raise my suspicion that he's up to no good. But hey, maybe I'm just paranoid. I got a wife and kids though, and it is far more important to keep them safe than worrying about hurting some bum's feelings who uses my property as a pass through. And yeah, the world is a much different place than it used to be, but transient bums have been raping and murdering defensless wives long before there was 24 hour news. Long before anyone here was a twinkle in their great-grandaddy's eye.1 point

It seems like some folks are thinking that Peace saw and talked to the man. From what I gathered the only people out there were his kid, the neighbors kid and the wife. In this day and age a man with any sense trespassing on private property, in a semi wooded location ought to know better. It's not like he was coming up the driveway.1 point

Holly Bobo? Maybe better to over-react than under-react. A non-emergency call to the Sheriff's Dispatcher is pretty mild by my way of thinking. It's not quite firing a red flare and cranking up the air-raid siren.1 point

Game camera and involve the Sheriff. If he's a problem for you, he might be a problem for others. Perhaps there has been a local burglary, and the Sheriff has no suspects. I imagine he'd like to know about your interloper. If GSD is German Shepard Dog, hey, great.1 point

I think you are talking about the Sheriff's Office mobile booking unit. We drop prisoners off and take out warrants via video chat and get back available in less than half the time of going downtown. The thing he was talking about is a white trailer with a white box that has a camera and blue lights.1 point

When you look at her history, what is scary is her agenda is no guns for nobodyv for no reason She understands the weapons she wants to ban aren't used in gun crime, so it is not an issue of keeping the public free from gun violence. It seems to me it is to keep guv'mint free from gun violence.1 point

Sounds like its over. Cranking off rounds in the city is a constitutional right? Interesting. It’s also interesting that a representative of an HOA thinks they get to decide what’s “illegalâ€. That's just as stupid. I doubt the rule has anything to do with criminals or safety and suspect it gets them a lower rate on their insurance.1 point

I have some fantastic friends in the knife world. And one in particular likes to send me things to play with. He sent me these two recently and I've enjoyed carrying them both. First up is a Ramon Chaves Redencion. This is hands down the biggest, beefiest folder I have ever laid fingers on. It is overbuilt to the extreme. The pictures below show some of the cool features of this knife. The last picture is of the lock bar cut going around the pivot. Really neat. The second knife was a Michael Burch (Burchtree Bladeworks) Large Swoop. This knife had the smoothest and best action I've ever felt on a knife. I was blown away by this one. Truly incredible work. Michael is known for his work with 1095 and the hamons he produces. This one has a great hamon. And here a few shots of the two together. The Redencion bit me a few days ago. Still not sure how this one happened but thats a lot of blade. And last up an instagram video of the Burch in action. http://instagram.com/p/k2yZ7cQSbH/1 point

In no particular order of quality...Remington, Ruger, Springfield Armory, Sig. All good quality firearms. Although the SA and Sig models might really strain your budget with anything above an entry level model. And I'd consider the Rock Island Armory models as well. Most are within the 500-800 range.1 point
