1. Somewhere people have gotten the idea that exploiting people, whether due to ignorance or desperation, for a "good deal" is capitalism. It is not nor has it ever been understood that way. Capitalism works off integrity of both ends. That is why we have problems with so many corporate and government issues. A good deal has to be a fair deal or else it is exploitation. It's like cheating at cards and then justifying it by saying its ok because they agreed to play you and didn't object.

 3. One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along the road-side eating grass.   Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate.   He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?"   "We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass."   "Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said.   "But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree."   "Bring them along," the lawyer replied.   Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You may come with us, also."   The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, "But sir, I also have a wife and six children with me!"   "Bring them all as well," the lawyer answered.   They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine.   Once under way, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.”   The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it. You'll really love my place. The grass is almost a foot high."

 4.   That's what makes a good one.   -------------   Lawyer loses big case, walks out of court, throws his hands to the sky, exclaims "I would do anything to never lose another case!"   Poof! The Devil himself appears, says, "I can make that happen for you, my man. But I will require not just your soul, but the souls of your wife, your kids, your parents, and even those of your dog and cat."   Lawyer thinks for a long moment and says,   "So what's the catch?"   -----------     - OS

 7.   And to me that is the real problem.  To mention "Blazing Saddles", again - as well as other Mel Brooks movies like Spaceballs (another of the funniest movies ever made) - sure some of the gags and comedy in those was silly, vulgar or crass but you could tell that a lot of intelligent thought went into that silliness and some consideration went into the vulgarity and crassness.  In other words, those things were included on purpose for a particular comedic effect, not just thrown in because they were expected.  There was a scene in "Blazing Saddles" where a bunch of cowboys are sitting around a campfire eating beans and farting.  That was funny - not just because of the farts but because it played on the stereotype you always saw in Westerns where guys on the trail are constantly eating beans.  We all know what beans do to you but no movie that I know of had made that connection, before.  In that case, then, the farts weren't just thrown in there to have a fart joke/scene but actually served to further the parody of Westerns by acknowledging the results of eating all those beans.  I mean, the way many of the old Westerns would have it cowboys on the trail lived on beans and not much more.  If that were the case, they probably produced more methane than the cows they were herding and Brooks was pointing that out.   The same idea is true of most of Monty Python's comedy - those guys had to be geniuses to come up with some of the silly things they came up with and to carry them off in such a funny way.  Many of today's movies have silliness and vulgarity for the sake of silliness and vulgarity rather than as a part of truly satirical comedy.  I think that is why I thought the show Beavis and Butthead was really funny and always hated South Park - the former was comedy making fun of a couple of teenage losers while the latter was just an excuse to create a character that was, literally, an animated piece of feces.

 8. The XD line is at least as good as any Glock, at least as far as I have experience.  Mine are extremely accurate and reliable.  The only issue I ever had was using SWC bullets, but never an issue with HP or target.   I also don't get people saying they have an issue with the grip safety.  I have never noticed it.  If you are holding the pistol properly, you won't either.  I'm curious if the same people complaining about the Springfield grip safety also complain about 1911s.

 9. I fail to see how the entire restaurant chain, that is actively investigating and promising action should be boycotted.   The manager or employee that did this, yes, they should be fired at a minimum.   However, it would be like holding your entire company accountable because one of your installers said/did something that offended me, instead allowing you as the employer to deal with the offending employee.

 10. Well, the whole thing was a farce anyway since I did not end up going due to a last minute business related emergency.    That said, I guess I need to clear things up just a bit, so that the assumption isn't that I'm stupid here.    I did not call them and ask if I could carry a gun into the symphony hall. I called and inquired as to whether or not they have a weapons policy. For all they know, I could have been an anti-gunner making sure that they were providing a "safe" environment for me to attend the symphony. Or maybe they thought I was asking if I could carry a gun into the building. Either way, I don't care one little bit. What bothers me more is that I report my findings here on this forum, and all I am met with is the assumption that I did something stupid or wrong by asking a question.   I see fear and derision from people who are supposed to be supportive of the rights that I choose to exercise and defend.    I understand that the majority of you are trying to be helpful, but for the rest of you, please refrain from offering useless, fear-based advice and comments. They should have no place here.    And one last thing. If we are beaten into submission to the point that we can't even ask questions for fear of the reprisal, then what's the point of fighting the madness anyway?

 11.  I don't know about any one else but I am getting sick and tired of our Government sticking our noses in issues regarding other peoples problems. People keep talking about freedom. Back in the beginning when the Americans held the Boston Tea Party in the Boston Harbor it was the beginning of our reach for Freedom. Out numbered and far out gunned a determined group of Freedom loving people told the King and Queen of England to kiss their butts and what they could do with their taxes. Way I see it these third world country's seeking freedom can earn theirs the same way we won ours. They can fight for it and if they want it bad enough they will win the fight. Some people call them Civil Wars, other people call the religious wars. We had our Civil war also and I didn't see any other countries rushing over to help fight in ours. We settled it and the nation became one again. I say we quit volunteering to help every that asks for help and say NO!!! If you want it fight for it or live under the oppression you live under now. When we left Iraq they were a free and independent country. 4000 Americans died and thousands more injured and maimed for life giving the that freedom and now they are screaming and begging us to come back and help them again. I say NO NO NO and 1 more NO!!!!! If they want it bad enough they will find a way to get it. If they want someone else to come and do the dirty work for them again and lose more American lives the answer needs to be NO!!! Freedom is not free and if we keep fighting and dying for a country we earned the freedom for once and go back again they will never stand on their own. South Korea is a good example of that. We fought to keep them and we have had to have a standing army presence there ever since. I say not again anywhere except Israel. We stand with Israel which is the only country over there we could depend on to fight for us and I guess that is probably why our President resents them so much..........................jmho

 13. I sat down this afternoon and tried to watch "We Are The Millers", which is supposed to be a comedy. After listening to 10 minutes of nothing but expletives and profanities, I finally turned it off and am sitting here shaking my head.   I grew up in the days of Red Skelton, Martin and Lewis, Danny Kaye, and clean comedy, which was actually FUNNY. Today, every show and every movie seems to have nothing but vulgar and offensive language and sexual innuendo which is supposedly "funny".   I just don't get it. Years ago my wife and I went with two other couples to see a Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson movie that was billed as "the funniest movie of the year" (funny how every comedy gets billed this way; can they really ALL be the funniest movie of the year?). Nothing but foul language and nothing that I found even remotely funny. I told my wife I couldn't watch any more of it and I walked over to the next theater to see the last half of Jurassic Park. I don't mind a few colorful metaphors, but when every other word is the F bomb or something equally offensive and gratuitous, I simply can't watch it. How did we get so far away from cleanliness and true family entertainment?

 14.   I agree on the recoil of the XDs .45.  I like everything about the pistol except the recoil.  I had a pre-recall version, so when I got it back from Springfield I noticed it had about 1 lb more trigger pull weight, and it did not feel as nice as the original.  I honestly have not shot it much since getting it back beyond making sure it worked reliably.  It is still as reliable as ever, but I have to say I don't like it as much as I did.  Maybe if I had only had the post recall version I wouldn't feel this way.

 16. Everything is relative.  Personally, the idea of running a $15,000 engine close to destruction in order to see how fast you can go 1/4 mile isn't my bag.  But, I do like shooting my Sterling and M10/45.  A $250 case of 9mm lasts a lot longer than a 1/4 mile run!!!   The sad thing about renting a machine gun is that the cost is counter-productive to giving you any experience other than just hosing off a magazine.  For me, learning to engage multiple targets in line, column, and echelon is what full-auto is all about.    Shooting real belt-feds is a dying art.  Modern militaries don't really teach how to most effectively use a ground-mounted belt-fed machine gun.  And not many places teach proper control of a shoulder-fired automatic weapon either.   Still, I'd encourage you to go and have fun.

 18. I guess I'm one of those people who really don't have an absolute, be all, end all favorite handgun. I do have several XD pistols, and one XDm. I have no problem at all with the grip safety on any of them. Personally, I absolutely love the XD 45 Tactical(5" barrel). I find it to be one of the easiest shooting and most accurate 45 pistols I have. It holds well for me and with the longer sight radius, it is very easy to be accurate with it. As an added bonus, I traded for the gun not knowing it had a guide rod laser system in it. And eitherthe man I got it from didn't know or just forgot about it. But it is dead on poi at under 50 feet. I really haven't tried it at any longer distances. My first was a SD9 subcompact, and I'll not part with it. I find it as easy to shoot as any compact, such as the G19, and favor it over many others; compact or fullsize. It now resides at home with an extended mag and a TLR-1 light on it and I find it to be a very good house gun. The XDm 9 5.25 is awesome for target shooting/competition. As with most of my guns, it is capable of far outshooting my abilities. But one of the greatest things about the XD line these days is that they are no longer the trendy, most wanted, newest item on the market. So prices are really dropping on them, at least I seem to seethat happening in some places. I'm sorry I don't remember the site, but I ran across nib XD9 subcompacts over the weekend for 395. That's a very good price for a now under-rated and high quality handgun. I would heartily recommend to anyone in the market for a good 9, or subcompact 9 take a look at these.

 19.   I think he is an overstuffed tyrant with too much money for everyone else's good.     From the linked article:   And that, right there - aside from views on firearms rights - is yet another fundamental difference in this guy's philosophy and mine.  Personally, I believe that 'cities' - at least overly large (and, as a result, very corrupt) cities are the cause of most of mankind's problems, not the solution.  Localized government is one thing but when you have one or two cities - like New York City in New York, Chicago in Illinois and even Nashville and Memphis in Tennessee - that attempt to hi-jack or succeed in hi-jacking an entire state and push their city's agenda, fomented by that city's often corrupt government, on everyone who lives in that state then there is a problem.

 20.   I've never had a problem running mine wet or dry. However, if after about 10,000 rounds you haven't cleaned it at all, you may start to notice some reliability issues. I now clean mine twice a year whether they need it or not.    I have owned the XD9SC, XD40 Service, XDM40, XDM9 5.25.    Don't waste the money on the XDM. Get a service or a tactical and put in the Powder River Precision (PRP) trigger kit. It takes about an hour and a half max and will make the trigger like butta! Unless you are going to use it in competition, then maybe you'll want the extra .25". Who knows?

 21. I agree with you. It seems "Hollywood" has been in the social engineering (brainwashing) business for four or five decades now. When I pay for entertainment, I'm insulted that they are charging me to push their social agenda, that I totally disagree with. It's sad...the moral condition our society has decayed into.

 22. I had an XD45 a long time ago. It was the first polymer gun I tried. It was a great gun. Never had an issue. However at the time I didn't know how to shoot pistols very well so can't comment on shootability. I do think the two tone XDm is one of the better looking plastic guns out now. And i always liked rhe 3.8 size. I carry Glocks now because that's what I'm comfortable with and what I was trained on. I vaguely remember that the bore axis seemed higher on the XD but may be wrong.

 25.   Maybe follow up by listening to some Lenny Bruce - maybe even find his animated short about the 'masked man'.  That is a Long Ranger parody in which the masked man has certain plans for Tonto. (Masked Man: "I've heard about it, read some exposes and I want to try it.  See how bad it really is.")  That isn't all it is about but that is pretty much how the short ends - with the masked man and Tonto riding off into the sunset holding hands.  It is on YouTube.  It is funny as all get out but I won't post the link, here.  Bruce died in 1966 so he was definitely part of the 'old days' being discussed, here.   Speaking of comedians, ever hear any of Redd Foxx's non Sanford and Son stuff?  Ever catch a broadcast of Richard Pryor Live on the Sunset Strip (from 1982)?   Personally, I think that the funniest movie of all time is "Blazing Saddles".  There is some 'language' and plenty of innuendo in that movie - and it came out in 1974.  Ever seen "The Kentucky Fried Movie" from 1977?  Another very funny movie (actually, kind of a movie made up of various skits) and loaded with such things.  The first time I saw the 'Danger Seekers' skit from that movie was one of the only times in my life I have literally laughed until I cried (and the odd thing is that I don't know that anyone would get away with that skit, today.)   "Monty Python's Flying Circus", which ran from 1969 until 1974 - as well as the movies from the same folks - had loads of innuendo and sexual situations.  They also represented some of the funniest comedy ever made, IMO.   You want to talk sexual innuendo?  Listen to some old blues - and I mean some of the really old stuff.  There was a song by a singer named Komomo Arnold that came out back in the 1930s in which he was asking the Lord to send him a woman - and then he says something along the lines of, "Lord if you can't send me no woman : please send me some sissy man."   http://www.elyrics.net/read/k/kokomo-arnold-lyrics/sissy-man-blues-lyrics.html   Point is, this stuff ain't nothing new.  There were bawdy songs played and sung in the 'dance halls' of the Old West that went for the 'cheap laugh'.  There were tawdry stories and plays with a humorous intent in Elizabethan England, during Shakespeare's time and before (some of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" fit that description.)  The very words 'debauchery' and 'bacchanalian' come from rites performed in celebration of one of the gods of Ancient Rome.   I wouldn't doubt that the paintings on the walls of the caves at Lascaux depicted sexual situations.  Heck, if we could literally translate some of that stuff we'd probably find some course language in there, too.

 26.
I love that movie. Each time that I watch it is like the first time. I also enjoy "It's A Wonderful Life".
We netflixed it in the mail since they didn't have it on streaming. They have a kids area in the Clarksville Customs House Museum set up as a Wizard of Oz tribute, so we were inspired to have them watch the movie after taking them there. I don't care that entertainment has so much lewdness in it, I just wish that there was enough decency to censor that stuff during hours where one would have their kids watching tv. For example, when this horrible premise of a show called "Mistresses" was being promoted, we just had the morning news show on, then a commercial comes on for this show and it's like soft core porn. I'm no prude, but damn. I want my kids to stay innocent as long as they can. How are parents supposed to be the censor when you can't even have the morning news on without there being something wildly inappropriate shown? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

 29. It is good to re-read that article.   I'm with KKing and Dustbuster on this.   I don't own any "safe queens" and have gone through 1000's of rounds of Wolf and Tula in my AR's and will continue to do so. Guns are tools...I take decent care of mine...but I consider them tools, and they get used, and used hard. Barrels are replaceable and relatively affordable.   I respect that others choose not to shoot steel cased ammo through their guns...but I personally couldn't afford to shoot mine much without the steel cased option.

 31. Oldie but goodie article. I have a cheap barreled upper that I run steel through, because quite frankly I don't care if the bi-metal bullets wear out the $89 barrel prematurely. Just like I don't care that I haven't cleaned the $79 BCG that's in it in over 1,400 rounds. Everything else I run brass in because I have some pretty decent barrels and the money saved on steel case wouldn't add up enough to replace those barrels in that period of time. But...ask me which gun I have more fun shooting. The one that I could care less about and shoot steel case in, or the ones that get cleaned at regular intervals that I shoot brass case in. It's great not caring if the steel case gun is clean, just squirt more break free in the BCG and shoot. When it starts not working, then I'll clean completely. I digress, I apologize

 32. Have three XD 9mm: the subbie, service, and tactical.  Love 'em. Jumped into them as my "main pistol battery" about 8 years ago (had always just had centerfire revolvers before).   Picked over Glock because:   - Gen 3 and forward finger grooves don't feel right to me, and didn't want to spend however long to ferret out used Gen 2s   - although can shoot Glocks as well as anything else with sights, they point high for me like no other handgun I've ever held   - I like both the loaded chamber and cocked indicators on the XD fine, and the grip safety was actually a significant selling point to me -- I see it as added safety margin for reholstering if nothing else.   Carried the subbie for a good while IWB, but had to be even more discreet at times, so settled into Kahr PM9 in pocket most always anymore. But I do really miss the good feeling of that 13+1.   Ya get up this way (Knox) you can shoot 'em.   - OS

 36.  My wife and I talk about this subject often. We have no cable but we have got an antenna for local programming and Netflix. We get into watching certain shows from the first episode through until we reach the end of the the series or all that Netflix has available. We have started watching several series that started out really good but then the deeper we'd get into them the worse they'd get. We've also noticed that when shows start out under performing or start dropping in ratings after a season or two the "Hollywood fall back plan" is to trash it up to try and capture the viewers that don't care about program quality as much as they do about trash. We watch a few things that we sorta "ignore" certain aspects of because the story line is captivating to us but we try to not support things that pass a certain point.

 41. Let's see who can remember seeing the Blue Angles in their different kind of aircraft. Early in my Navy career, I was stationed at Sherman Field (Pensacola) in the training squadron VT-4. At the time, our squadron had T2J-1 Buckeyes. We had one half of a large hangar. The Blue Angels had the other half of the same hangar. At that time, they were flying the F-11 Tigers. Beautiful aircraft, and it looked good in the air. Usually, when they would come back home, off the airshow circuit, they would put on quite a show! They would rip the place up quite a bit...I guess so everyone would know they were back in town. I'm sure they could get away with a lot more in those years than they can now!   They have flown some interesting aircraft over the years.

 42. There is no country on earth that I would willingly send others to fight and die in, that I wouldn't fight and die for, myself. That said... Iraq is not one of those countries. There are plenty of bad people and bad governments, let the good people there be the first to struggle and if need be ASK for HELP deposing an irrepresentative government. Then, and only then, we choose winnable battles. We did the opposite. I cannot support conflict which results in thousands of dead American soldiers... Each of whom is testament to the best of humanity in personal sacrifice. But on top of that, their sacrifice is now being nullified because of bureaucratic ineptitude of the ungrateful masses and their pacifist minions. Fuck Iraq. God bless the selfless souls who have toiled for years to make a difference despite the impossible and disingenuous means afforded them. Let that place return to dust.

 47. Finally, after months of gathering parts, my TGO build is complete...well nearly, need a better scope. It is a 6.5 Grendel with a 20" Shilen Barrel (threaded by Law Enforcement Sales, Thanks Mike!) on the TGO upper and lower. Rock River 2 stage NM Trigger, Magpul PRS, Harris Bipod, Ergo Grip, Burris PEPR mount and a junky BSA 6-24x44 Scope, which works ok. I just got it all together last week, and took it to the John Sevier Range in Halls on Sunday. Just shooting a 100 yards off the bipod, but I'm thrilled! I think it is a keeper. I was shooting the factory Hornaday 123 A Max load. The upper left 3 shot group was while I was sighting it in, then the 5 shot group in the bullseye was immediately after that. The single hole in the TWRA logo was the last round of the day. I was just trying to hit the circle. I don't think I am capable of shooting much better than that. I think the rifle is better than me!

 48. Thought about this some more and realized that, due to my rather catastrophic ankle injury earlier this year, it kinda' already has happened to my wife and I. I mean insofar as my becoming suddenly disabled with pretty much ZERO income for several months, it really gave a us a chance to test our preparations. Indeed if it weren't for the prepping we've done, we'd have been more or less completely helpless from the start. As it is we've gotten by reasonably well with just a little outside help from friends.   It hasn't been fun, but we've learned a lot from it and now know what changes we need to make in future preparations to avoid the pitfalls we've encountered thus far.   Question: "What if all of this is for nothing?"   Answer: Then you count your freakin' blessing that you never actually had to put it to the test... And then you really give thanks that you've never stumbled and put a .357mag 158gr JHP through your ankle or suffered some other equally idiotic & crippling accident and had to suddenly find out the hard way whether your prepping ideas actually work.   What if all of this is for nothing? Well, it's not for nothing --- Because it doesn't take a government or societal meltdown or an electro-magnetic pulse or even an earthquake to put it to the test. Just one stupid little accident... I found out the hard way that only Superman is truly invincible. The rest of us are frail and human and only one stupid little stumble away from finding out just how freakin' important prepping actually is.   ...TS...
