  2. ... Some folks ain't gonna like this; but I believe that the person that is still alive that is most responsible for this sad tragedy is Ward, SR...  He has said some pretty hurtful and outrageous things in his public statements; part of which i can attribute to his sadness; the other is just plain foolish and over the top... More than that, he has evidently been the driving mentor and force in this unfortunate young man's driving career, and has publicly stated as much...    I grew up around the dirt track racing scene... Dirt track drivers race and fight... They are competitive and sometimes combative... They don't run over other drivers on foot on purpose... If this hot headed kid had stayed in his car, he would be alive today... At some level, this grieving father and family have to know that...   ...Remember, you are responsible for you... You can make irreversible choices...   leroy

  6. The main question not being answered is this: how often do you change the oil? If it's 7,500 or less under normal driving conditions, any money on a full synthetic is wasted, imho. Both the 4 and 6 cyl Camry motors are not known to have excessive wear or fouling of the engine oil. When in doubt, check the owners' manual. Toyota spends millions (maybe billions?) on R&D. No counter jockey (I used to be one, btw) can match that. I personally would go synthetic if you plan on going past 6 mos or 7,500 miles regularly. Between 3-6 mos/5-7,500 miles I'd go blend. If going by the old 3 mos/3k I'd go plain dino. Just in the interest of full disclosure, I put M1 0-40 in my V8 Volvo S80 about every six months, and change the oil in my wife's MKX at the same time using M1 5-20. OEM filter in the Volvo, and M1, Bosch Distance +, or Royal Purple filter on the Lincoln. I used to obsess about timely oil changes... now I just use premium stuff and change it when I get around to it. I have plenty of wiggle room with the quality stuff I use.

  7. I use TING. It's an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) off of Sprint (uses Sprint network). Essentially, they charge you $6 per device per month, then appropriate amount for whatever tier you hit for minutes/texts/data each. I typically pay somewhere between $20 and $40 a month depending on usage. Sprint coverage is not super great, but gets the job done.   If you want in iPhone, you can go find a Spring iPhone 4/5 and attach it to their service. If you want something else, most Spring phones will work with Ting but you should always check first. Customer service is top notch (you call a number, someone answers within a few rings that can actually help you vs. getting forwarded through a phone tree several times).

  14. Wife and I have been looking for a new church in Hermitage/MJ area as well. Tried a few in Herm and were in-impressed. Tried one other in MJ and it was too "old-school." We've been to Joy the last 4 weeks and have really enjoyed. Everyone seems really friendly, but we haven't tried anything else to connect with other people just besides going to the service. They have several groups we plan to attend at some point when our schedule allows. Music: pretty "modern" ... no piano, organ, and choir here; praise team band with several singers Service length: 1.0 - 1.5 hours; kind of a "typical" planned service ... singing, stand and welcome, announcements, tithe, sermon, invocation Preaching: the guy is a good speaker and can hold your attention, sometimes gets a little off point telling stories; doesn't hold back and will tell you things straight, but one gripe I have is often when he tells you something that might make people uncomfortable, he'll quickly cover it with something more light-hearted (a joke or something) ... which to me sometimes draws attention away from the point he just made. As someone who knows a thing or two about presenting to groups, he follows a good "prescription" to his sermons ... 6-10 minutes of talking, then a distraction (video, demonstration, etc.), then more talking ... this helps hold attention over a long period Topics/Beliefs: right now doing a series on parenting, which is good for is as were new parents ... doesn't just tell you "what" you need to do, but practical ways to accomplish those things ... General feelings: congregation can sometimes be a bit charismatic ("amen-ing" things or clapping for things that I don't know why there doing such); but as a whole it's a really nice place, friendly people Service times: Sat night and Sunday morning. We've only been Sunday morning. They also have a Wednesday night offering of some sorts. Outreach: they have a lot going on from a mobile food truck they feed people with a few times a season to a very in depth and involved ministry to local police forces. I know they seem to do a lot with MJPD and MJ Swat (may have something to do with selling their old building to MJPD), but also some Metro stuff also. Financial: they preach to be debt free and also are debt free, paid for current building cash outright (may not be a big deal to everyone, but I appreciate this aspect) Kids: new children's minister hired (their first to serve on a full-time basis), fairly well developed children's ministry on-going I'd say give it a go. We've enJOYed (see what I did there?) the times we've gone and plan to go back. Also, as a first time guest you get special parking (they'll put a candy bar on your window during service) and a coupon for free coffee at their coffee shop. Our family really likes Brentwood Baptist and their Tuesday night Kairos offering. For us, this is closer and Dailey equivalent so this is where we will probably land long-term. Oh with regards to carrying ... it's not posted. I've always carried and never had an issue (although I conceal). You're likely to run into several uniformed and un-uniformed officers at the church, they have all been very friendly to me. Sorry to be long-winded. It's probably the whiskey starting to talk.

  21. So here in Knoxville, we've got a new Wally right next to UT campus, part of the "University Commons", only been open a week or so.   Rather unique layout, the way they had to design it to fit in limited area next to 3rd creek, most of the parking is enclosed garage beneath it and from front you have to go UP to the store via stairs or escalator. Also going to be a Publix as the other anchor store, which seems strange to me that they'd come in there, what with the Wally having a supermarket too.   But the absolute amazing part was that I was actually asked by employees if they could help me find anything four times before I even made my meandering way back to sporting goods! I was stunned.   Sporting goods section about as extensive as any, no guns of course, but did have ammo case, and it was about as well stocked as most of them. Even had the deadly assault weapon calibers.   So I decided to grab a 100 pack of .38 Special. Two youngsters there, guy and gal,  neither had key. They apologized and the gal ran off to find the key person, came back pretty quick with key, apologized again, and consummated sale.   Then on way out, I run into the guy who had been there before, and he asked if I had gotten the ammo okay.   Wow.   - OS

  22. Pretty interesting read what Cabelas did: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/08/daniel-zimmerman/st-louis-cabelas-protects-guns-rioters/ St. Louis Cabela’s Protects Guns From Looters By Dan Zimmerman on August 11, 2014 Here’s a TTAG Eyewitness News report from our local correspondent, Dirk Diggler, who sent these phone pics. After last night’s looting in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, the St. Louis Cabela’s store (which is located about five miles west of Ferguson in nearby Hazelwood) has taken precautions to protect its firearms inventory. The store is located in a large shopping center called the St. Louis Outlet Mall. Dirk reports that every entrance to the mall has at least one squad car on prominent display and there are policemen posted both at Cabela’s front door and inside the store . . . There are only long guns on display, safely behind the counter. All handguns have been removed from the glass display cases to protect against flash mob-style smash-and-grab attempts. Specific firearms customers want to see are brought out one at a time from storage off the sales floor. The usually accessible racks of long guns leading toward the gun library have been emptied. And access to the more valuable firearms in the gun library is now blocked by a wall of gun safes that have been moved into position to block the doors. Dirk reported that Cabela’s staff didn’t know when things would return to normal. He was told that the gun counter is “under orders” to operate this way until further notice. Whether those orders came from Cabela’s headquarters or the local police wasn’t clear.

  25. I have a friend who said she is close to loosing it over having to help her oldest kid move to college tomorrow.  To compound matters, her husband is overseas drawing combat pay and isn't there to help the emotional burden. To say things are a little emotional is an understatement.    But if you are taking your kid to a good school where they can stand on their own, you did a lot of things right as a parent.  Congrats.

  30. They had the deer issue on the news the other night. They were saying that the deer situation in Hendersonville Tennessee is totally out of control and they are looking at different solutions to deal with the problem. I live in the city of Gallatin and I have deer in my back yard a couple times in the last week and that is a first for me and I have lived here 16 years in November. I have a really think fence row between me and my neighbor behind me and it is very tall so deer can hide in is pretty easy. If I continue to see them I will buy some food and feed them this winter just as I do all the other critters I have. I feed rabbits pellets and apples I get from Krogers that have gone bad and they are throwing out. Deer will eat those also. I have 5 squirrel feeders up that I buy whole Kernel corn for and I will mix it with raw unsalted peanuts and acorns that i collect at a buddy's house with my shop vac. he has two big Oaks in his back yard and his patio, walkways and driveway are full of acorns. I can fill a 5 gallon shop vac twice and it will last the Winter. If the deer stay I might fill it 3 times because deer like acorns too. I go through about 80 lbs of bird seed a Winter also but they are so enjoyable to sit and watch in winter on the feeders....................jmho

  32. I've had both. The XDS is a great 45 that's both slim and very controllable. For size and ease of carry, the XDS wins. The 36 and I'll throw in the 30s are both great shooters, but not as small and easy to carry as the XDS.

  35. It can be done depending on your clothing choice. I carry this way often. It does print, but it is a very square shape which would appear to be a wallet or phone. For me it only works with a quality kydex holster. Leather is nice, but too thick for this carry method. I agree it is "clunky", but I have an LCP for those times when I am doing something really active. A G26 or G27 is so much easier to shoot though. LCP is more comfortable, baby Glock is more comforting.

  40. I would be careful to make sure you see the bullets impact. My suspicion is it is too light.   You can ALWAYS start out using jacketed load data for a cast bullet of the same weight. Cast bullets have less pressure than jacketed when all else is equal. This applies to coated bullets as well but not plated. Plated bullets should be treated as jacketed bullets.   "Universal" is a specific powder it is not load data that can be used "universally".

  42. I've never handled or fired a G36, so I can't make any comments relative to it.  I'm sure like all Glocks that it's a fine gun.  I do, however, own an XDs 45, and I love it!  It's biggest advantage to me personally is that I can pocket carry it, which is how I typically carry.  It have been completely reliable in the time that I've owned it, and I have no complaints at all.

  43. They will never admit that because then the next question is "at what point has it become tyrannical"?....................and the next question is "At what point has the tyranny risen to the level that resistance is called for"?  Those are some very sobering questions for a national political discourse...so there is NO WAY they will EVER admit that.

  44. The real problem here is that the Second Amendment was largely intended to guarantee that the People have the ability to defend against a tyrannical government.  The ability to do so was used to allay fears about such a tyrannical Federal government using Federal troops to enforce their will upon the People when the decision was originally being made as to whether or not to have a standing military.  Therefore, the main intent of the Second Amendment was to support the ability of average citizens - the People - to defend against an organized military force.  As such, if these friggin' judges would actually look at history and base their rulings in reality, 'military type' weapons are exactly the type of weapon that the Second Amendment was originally intended to protect.

  45. You can draw a fairly broad circle and still be within an hour of Murfreesboro. Check out Spring Hill and possibly even Columbia (Maury County side for the taxes) to be easily within an hour. There's also plenty of country living opportunities between Murfreesboro and Spring Hill down 840.   Check out www.realtracs.com and try Rutherford, Williamson, and Maury Counties for starters. Really though, you can probably do any county touching Rutherford and possibly two counties off and be within an hour. Beyond that, as always, do your research on what's in an area, taxes, etc., before settling down.   Once you find something you like, go to www.assessment.state.tn.us to do your research on tax value, property specs, etc. If you want to know about property taxes, www.tennesseetrustee.org to pull 'em up. We have great online resources in this department... some of the best in the whole country. Our gun laws aren't bad either. ;)   Welcome to TGO and c'mon down!!
