How is "your" dog just a possession but a k9 is a "police officer?"7 points
-
So far the discussion has been civil and fair. With that being said as soon as someone comes in and starts bashing cops I will lock this down. Lets try to avoid stereotyping ALL officers with blanket statements or trying to prove there are bad officers out there. We all know every profession, including law enforcement, has bad apples so please do not post articles, or videos, to prove some officers are bad. Now with that being said this has gone through my head a lot recently. Mostly because I have had acquaintances who have had their dogs shot and it does seem like it is a growing problem among law enforcement. And all an officer needs to say, not prove, is they were in fear of being bitten to create justification for it. And I know there are a lot of cases where shooting an animal is justified in order to protect the officer but I also believe there are a lot of cases that should have been handled much differently to save the life of a cherished pet. So how do we change this disturbing trend? First thing is training. Training would be the fastest and best way to change this. Second would be being able to hold those officers accountable, both criminally and civilly. And not just not for destroying a piece of property but charging them criminally for the same exact charge any one of us would be charged with if we shot some strangers dog. That is charge them with reckless endangerment for discharging a weapon, aggravated assault if any humans are present and finally aggravated animal cruelty. After officers start going to jail the rest will think twice before discharging their duty weapon. I am not sure what I would do if an officer shot one of my family members. If I were to be present at the time of the incident I would have a very, very hard time not doing something that would likely put me in jail for life. No way I could stand idly by while any of my loved ones were being killed by anyone. Again, lets keep it civil and not start bashing law enforcement.5 points

Try and harm (or do harm) my "possesion" without what I feel is just cause and we'll see where it ends. I don't care what the law says. I am not trying to be a tough guy, but believe me, the last thought on my mind would be the law considering my dog a possession. I agree with DawgDoc, police need more training. Realize that I work in the Law Enforcement community and have nothing but respect for the overwhelming majority of the people that work in the community. This is a training issue no doubt. Until some of these bad cops are held accountable, I don't see it changing.5 points

Hell no. I'm all for an 'actual' primitive weapon season like Colorado. No inlines, no scoped, no sabots, lock on the side.5 points

I don’t feel empathy for them; they raised the thug. I doubt him robbing a store was a big surprise for them. Asking the U.N. for help is laughable; they have zero control over us. But okay, let them go there. But make sure you show them the video of your thug azz son robbing and assaulting the store owner so they can roll their eyes and kick you out of the U.N. I feel very sorry for the Officer involved; it’s terrible that he has to go through this because the thug he killed was black. Our President sending the Attorney General there to tell stories about how white cops harassed him as a young man is nothing but racist. I hope this cop is cleared and he finds a job as a Policer Officer in a place where they will support him when he does his job.4 points

Anyone who unnecessarily kills an animal, regardless of their profession, is a crappy person. Unfortunately, some of those people become cops and feel emboldened to do what they normally wouldn't when they are subject to the law. Those types, one would think, should be terminated and charged as soon as they are discovered. There was a case in Clarksville a couple years ago where a cop shot a dog in the owners yard, with the dog on a chain at the time. The owner was inside the house, heard the shot and found their dog dead. The officer was cutting through the yard during a search for a missing kid. There were no more stories in the paper regarding the incident, but I can't believe there is an excuse for trespassing into someone's yard, then killing a dog which is restrained. In that scenario, you get to take a bite. Sorry. The onus is on the officer, not the dog, to have his head functioning from outside his ass. On another note, trashy people let their dogs run loose, usually aggressive dogs. My cousin responded to a 911 call several years ago where a couple of loose pit bulls chased a man through his neighborhood and he was able to jump in a vehicle and call 911. My cousin was in the area and went to respond. Upon arriving to where the gentleman was hiding, one of the dogs charged him and he shot and killed it. Of course, all the comments on the story were people saying that it was just a cop murdering someone's dog, and he didn't have to shoot it. Meanwhile, nobody acknowledges that an owner allowed dangerous animals to roam the streets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Hiding from the government makes no sense. If you want an AR lower that is not tied to you just go to any show and buy one from one of the guys standing outside. No one, especially the government, is the wiser to you buying the lower. There are tons on the various websites as well. With the way the ATF is raiding those selling 80% lowers for customer lists I would be more afraid of buying an 80% lower than a serialized lower from someone face to face.3 points

To me, my dog is not a possession, she is family, she is my friend. And I will not stand by and let her get hurt.3 points

No. It's already bad enough that inlines with scopes are allowed.3 points

I think cops need training on the difference between the dog that is actually attacking and the dog that is barking loudly in defense of its property. The problem with many of the stories is that the cops apparently did not even give any thought to what they were doing (such as shooting an ankle-biter dog). I think the normal rules should apply--only use a gun when absolutely necessary in defense of life, know your target and what is beyond, etc. In my house, if a cop broke down the door because they had the wrong address, my 40-pound dog might approach a few steps, barking loudly, hackles raised, but would most likely not attack. Based on the situations that I have seen, that would most likely get her shot, and our main living area where she stays is the second floor over a finished basement, so I could see a shot aimed at a dog going through the floor and into the room below. My personal belief is that if the dog is latched onto your body, that is when you get to shoot it, not before, even if it is running toward you, and especially not just because it is growling or barking in the corner of the room. I see a lot of dogs that don't like me, and most are fear aggressive--they are not going to attack if you leave them alone. The few that have lunged at me could have caused a serious wound if they connected, but I doubt they could have (or would have) actually got my throat. So yes, are there times based on my system when a cop might be harmed in the interest of being absolutely sure that the dog is a threat? Yes, but I feel that risk is outweighed by the dangers created by shooting dogs that didn't need shooting. As for drug dealers who have guard dogs--I don't think the dogs should be executed just because the owner is a bad guy anymore than I think the cops should be able to set his house on fire just to get him out. Does killing the guard dogs make their job easier? Yes, but so does suspending the Constitution.3 points

Moving along pretty quickly this time! If my count is right, we have 23 confirmed; not to mention those who might go for more!2 points

It would be fun to see a primitive season consisting of non-compounding bows and atlatls. Kinda seems like the point of primitive hunting gets lost after you add crossbows, inline muzzle loaders with scopes, & single shot rifles. Might as well just make it all rifle season.2 points

John Wells set mine up. I went to his office in Brentwood. An hour and a half spent, well worth it. 1.5 hours = 30 minutes Trust talk/set up + 1 hour of ancillary gun talk2 points

I don't have a "primitive" weapon. I do, however, have a black powder rifle. I would like to have a "primative" weapon one day. Imo, they both shoot powder, just a different boolit. There are so many ways to argue with this. Quite frankly, I'm just happy to hunt. I have nothing against anything that gets people out in the woods. I think at times we hunters are our own worst enemy. We argue over petty things. In the mean time, we should be striving to make our sport stronger, and become more active in getting others involved. So, hunt with what ya got. Hunt with what you like, and don't worry about what the other man or woman is doing. Get out and enjoy what the good Lord has given and leave it at that.2 points

Two things about your current path that I would watch for better results (I'm not necessarily offering an opinion on "juicing"). 1. As peejman mentioned, watch your sugar intake and make sure and juice with lower GI foods. Sugar will eventually wreek havoc on your weight loss goals. Juicing removes a lot of the fiber that tempers sugar uptake. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index 2. Add a protein powder/source to your "meals." You want to lose fat, not muscle. Your body will burn both if it has to... Also, this will make you feel more full. Good luck.2 points

I'm of the mind that if I don't need it (i don't as of right now) I buy it and just give it to (or sell it at cost if we aren't close) someone I know does and that won't resell it. Why leave it to chance? :pleased: With that said I'd panic if I saw mini mags. I haven't seen those in a while.2 points

Jig only cost me the time I spent making it and some scrap, and mine is MUCH simpler than some commercially marketed with intent to make machining a lower with a hand drill or drill press easier. I technically don't need a jig with the mill, but it simplifies repeat setup (especially depth) of a few of the steps with my mill which helps consistency. If I was a better machinist and had more free time I'd just start with a block of aluminum and the mill. I don't reload, machine, or build my own rifles to save any money but when one hobby can help save a little here or there on another hobby it gives me something to tell the wife I "saved money" on. :pleased: (I need all the help I can get) I also occasionally wear costumes around to raise money for children's charities and someone in that group questioned my 3d printing of a component for one of my costumes stating "It's only $20 to buy one" So what, I spent around $2 in ABS printing it with machine I've already got and had fun doing it. :up:1 point

Look at Highcom Security. They have some pretty decently priced plates of different types, sizes, weights, and composition. Also, they have a coupon code "ARMOR" I think that has a nice discount. Plus on your first order you can do a review of the products, service, whatever and get a 25% off your next order total.1 point

Honestly, when you add all that sweet to it and long as it's a bourbon you'd drink you're good to go. I probably wouldn't waste the money for something reallly good just for a cup of eggnog. FWIW last batch I made I used George Dickel.1 point

I too like egg nog but usually buy the pre-made stuff at the store and don't add anything too it, except maybe a touch of kahlua (or other coffee liqueur). My recent go-to's have been a certain kind I can only find at Kroger (although not Kroger branded). One is sugar cookie egg-nog and the other is a gingerbread one. Both are delicious.1 point

Finally had a deer come out that I would shoot this morning just as day broke. 6 pointer, nothing spectacular, but first buck I've had in range. Shot right under that sucker! :( Well, that's bow hunting and I'm still glad to have seen one in range.1 point

I'm in again, #16 again. Leaning towards tanto, I'll update for sure after we see the sample pics. Thanks Steve!1 point

Congrats and good on you and your wife for giving him a great life. To be honest, one of the reasons I like this forum so much is that we have such a large, very emphatic, dog loving group. Once I eventually change jobs to where I don't have to travel for long periods every couple of months, I will be getting another dog. My parents watch mine now while I am gone, but I don't want to throw another one on them since they also have one of their own and ours are all inside dogs.1 point

I am in for sure. Regular blade, same serial # as last time if possible.1 point

If that's the case, then who's rules do we go by yours mine ??? Some fellow TGO'ers and I went to the Kentuckyana IDPA match. Where the rules seemed to be left up to the SO's not the book. So for the ones that go by the rules, thank you, to the ones that don't, GO AWAY!!!! We don't need you. This is starting to really get under my skin, remember this is a game play it, have fun, be safe, follow the rules and stop crying. it's up to you to do the right thing so do it.1 point

Simple stuff works best. Cut out all foods which serve no other purpose than pleasure. Soft drinks, lickies and chewies, desserts. Then incorporate just a little exercise which is sustainable for you; not some P90X crap that you'll quit after a few weeks because it's too intense. Those simple things right there will show results over time. You don't want to set crash goals of dropping large amounts of weight in a short amount of time. You will fail to keep it off, or give up when you aren't seeing drastic results quick enough. Cut the garbage food out, manage your portions and do a little exercise. Do this for 6 months at least and you'll not only see results, but you'll get used to the idea of not eating large amounts of crap and drinking soda. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

That's really not much to go on & I'm sure there's a lot more to the story. If they took his permit & range key it sounds like he was probably doing something he wasn't suppost to be doing like being unsafe or breaking range rules. Like I said, not enough info.1 point

I work with a guy, who over torqued his barrel nut to the point where it shredded when he removed it, and his handguard wasn't visibly misaligned. Regardless, even a $22 torque wrench from Harbor Freight is good enough for installing a barrel nut. Got me thinking, I'm lucky that both of the slim handguards I've put on ARs recently have proprietary barrel nuts that don't require timing the gas tube.1 point
