These were part of an email about Texas I got from a buddy of mine back home. I had a good laugh, thought I would pass them along. Fourth one down is my favorite.

   They very well might, however, golf & softball guys don't require background cks. to buy equipment @ $10  a pop, or pay thru the nose for a permit to play. Rather skinny leg to stand on.

Outside of the moron that shot it, you have to admit that bird is bad ass.  It's been shot, a guy has it in a choke hold and it still looks like it wants to go F some stuff up.

This whole "empty chamber carry" thing usually done by someone who is more afraid of the gun they carry than they are of the bad guys. And that is to some degree the fault of all the "you are more likely to be killed by a gun if you have one in the home " crowd. The average person (especially those in urban areas) knows little about guns other than what they see and hear on TV.  So people who know LITTLE about guns and even LESS about how fast REAL street crime happens decide they want to get a HCP but they are so afraid that the gun might "go off" they carry with an empty chamber.   My question is do they only load 5 rounds in their six shot double action  revolver so they have to pull the trigger TWICE to get it to go off? It is NOT logical. Ask any of the empty chamber carriers WHY they do it and the answer is EMOTIONAL....NOT logical. I've been working a full time job in the shooting industry for over 15 years and been teaching HCP classes the same amount of time and working as a travelling instructor, attending and presenting at some of the biggest conferences in the country for the last 8 years....and in ALL that time and travel I have yet to meet a SINGLE SERIOUS GUN CARRIER who carries with an empty chamber. And there is a reason for that. The people who KNOW how fast things can go from "hey man, do you have a cigarette" to "give up yo' wallet Mother F-er" know that empty chamber carry is stupid practice that can get you killed.   Now for those of you who say "well that is how we carried them in the army back in the day " ....maybe so...but that doesn't in ANY way mean that was the best practice...it just means the army doctrine for carrying a 1911 was "officially" to carry with an empty chamber for safety. I then ask those guys how much pistol training did you get AFTER you did BASIC? Any ? No? Unless you were in a VERY specialized unit, or were an MP you didn'ty carry loaded pistols in any kind of capacity on a regular basis....so people take that to mean that "if the army did it that way it was right". No...if the army did it, it was for a reason and that reason is RARELY because it is the best practice for FIGHTING. It is simply an effort  to keep UNTRAINED personnel from shooting themselves and others accidentally because they cannot grasp the concept of not using the trigger as a place to rest their finger .  Once those same people deployed to a combat zone the general practice was to say "to hell with the regulations" and carry it loaded and the safety on when outside the wire.....why? Because racking the slide took too long to bring the weapon into a usable condition.   In my "day job" I sell holsters and ammo and all manner of other accessories. I had an old guy (clearly in his 60s or 70s) call about a "defective" Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster for his "old military .45". He said it would not "fit". He said the thumb snap would not snap. I finally figured out WHY and asked him ...Sir, are you trying to holster that pistol with the hammer down or with it cocked? He said "What kind of idiot carries it cocked?" I asked if he had a round in the chamber and he again asked what kind of idiot carries that with a "bullet" in the chamber.....He informed me that he was a korean war vet and that "no one" carries a round in the chamber. I told him that Glaco designs their 1911 holsters to be carried with the hammer cocked, round chambered and safety on. THAT is why his gun would not fit.If the hammer was down the thumbsnap was not long enough to wrap around the hammer.... If he simply cocked the hammer it would fit..... He was dumbfounded because apparently since that is how the army did it (empty chamber) in 1950 that was the pinnacle of small arms TTPs....   Another pet peeve is the folks who simply parrot what other uninformed folks have told them about the Israelis carrying with an empty chamber and that they have some of the best counter terror folks in the world so if they do it then it must be OK.....well their CT units carry with loaded chambers...it is the " 2 year conscripts " that carry empty chamber and that started largely because in 1948 when Isreal became a country of their own for the first time since the late Old Testament times they had a hodge podge of foreign guns all with different features and different safety mechanisms. How to train people to use all this differnt stuff? Have them leave the safeties OFF and leave the chamber unloaded....that will work for EVERY TYPE of pistol no matter who made it or where and it is easier to have people do that than to invest the time into training them in good gunhandling practices......   So for all those carrying empty chamber....ask yourself this question.....how do guns go off? The trigger has to be pulled. So if we habituate ourselves to keeping our finger off the trigger until the muzzle is pointed at the target and we don't carelessly handle the pistol and when we are not handling it we have it in a holster that covers the trigger guard then it is nigh unto impossible for it to go off accidentally......AND it will work RIGHT NOW in an emergency situation when you pull it out without having to take the time to involve the other hand to make it functional. Carry how you want....but empty chamber carry is like emptying your car gas tank when you get where you are going so that the car doesn't catch on fire.....a ridiculous practice born of fear and emotion not education and logic.

I got home yesterday afternoon late and took Pain meds and went right to bed. Doctor wants me up and about for 15 to 20 minutes several times day. So will post when pain eases up. As has the dollar. Mt Gox was an obvious exception but in large part, many of the others (Like the Trendon Shavers thing) were scams that you only had to have your eyes open to avoid them.   If you have bitcoins and you store them properly, it's next to impossible for someone to take them from you.

Having spent a great deal of time at LP working to further firearms Rights issues, (not key board time mind you), but boots on the ground actually working bills, one learns that force multipliers are absolutely necessary to offset Haslam's Mayors Against Illegal Guns mindset.  The groups who have at least some backbone and interest in doing anything about all this "Expanding" government power grab know each other.  We meet in the halls and question what each of us is running.  (If you think calls and e-mails make a difference, I have some beach front property in Weakly County for sale)  Face to face meetings, Town Halls called by grass roots organizations in an elected official's home district have a MUCH bigger influence.  If you do not have at least five meetings scheduled with legislators at LP tomorrow, you are talking, not doing. (a hint, they do not get there on Monday till after noon usually, catch them on their cell phones as the drive in, if you have enough moxie to show up and get them, they are captive in their cars, and if you are pushing hard enough, they will not like hearing from you, but they know they need to take the call. Too, you can text them after the aged parents are in bed and you get a few minutes away from work and duty to family.) When Beth Harwell sees an individual in the hearing room and scowls, you are making a difference.  When she sees the leaders of five grass roots groups sitting together, it upsets her entire day.

You jump out of your truck after an innocent person walking down the street and set in motion an assault that leads to the innocent person’s death and see if you are convicted in Tennessee. He was engaged in a criminal act before he ever got to Martin. Martin attacked in self-defense; unfortunately he didn’t have a gun. The fact that what he did is apparently not a crime in Florida doesn’t make it right. I still think justice will be served; it just won’t come from the courts. I mean no disrespect to you or anyone else; that’s just my opinion on what happened.

I think I’m a pretty intelligent person that can sort fact from fiction. George Zimmerman should have been in prison a long time ago. And he eventually will be; he’s too stupid not to end up there. And yes, I want to see him go to prison. The jury got it wrong because of a weak Prosecution team. An innocent kid was chased down and murdered. An acquittal doesn’t mean he didn’t do it; it just means justice wasn’t served.

I just bought 25 acres and I really love this place!! At first my daughter and her husband were going to move here but they have changed their mind, so now I live here alone! I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis but I am determined!!! I desperately need a game plan!!! I paid cash for farm and new 4 wheel drive toyota fj but what should I do first- goats, chickens, orchard, fruit trees, I need a lot but I choose to buy without going in debt - I am debt free now! Any advice would be appreciated! The firearms and ammo is covered - and coyotes are an issue! Thanks for any advice!!!

Why do you have a pic of a tree and the ground ? I don't get it.   Seems you have black rifle disease I hate to see anyone catch it. It leaves you with a very empty wallet and extra AR parts everywhere.   Congrats on a great collection.   By the way you are running a little behind on the 1 per month club as well. You better finish that pistol asap.

Thanks for that list BigK! With the growing number of oblivious hipsters in Nashville, it's no surprise we're so low on the list of permits per capita.   In all seriousness, as Nashville has become more popular for the younger generation of professionals over the last few years, I've noticed more people I come in contact with being averse to firearms. If recent activity just in my neighborhood in East Nashville is any indication, this is a boon to criminals and one they'll keep taking advantage of.

  Congrats.  That's the quickest I've heard of.  My last F4 approval was around 4.5 months.  They have been trending downward, but 3 months is fast!

The only accuracy problem I've had with my Ruger was me.

We spent the last year doing exactly what you are planning. We bought a small farm a year ago that already had a barn, some pastures, and a chicken coop. I'll tell you about our experience.   Since you are a bird lover, definitely get chickens. They are my favorite livestock we have. They have personalities and are generally friendly. They make me laugh all the time with their crazy antics. You'll definitely need a coop for them to go into at night. You can either pen them in with a chicken yard, or let them free range. Be prepared to have casualties if you free range. Coyotes got all of my neighbors. We have a fenced in area, with a net over the top.   We also have a couple of guinnea fowl. They are cool looking birds, and produced eggs last summer, but then stopped.Some birds don't lay all year long, so that may be normal. We'll see what happens this spring. I tell them all the time they better start making me more than they are costing me, or they'll go in the pot ;-) We have ten chickens and two guinneas. We get about 9 or ten eggs a day, all from the chickens. It's way more than we can eat, but we give away the rest to family and friends.    Do not get a pig!!! I had a friend convince me to go halfsies and get one and it turned out to be a horrible idea. Unless you are really set up well for one, they will destroy everything. It took mine about 24 hours to turn a lush grassy pen into a sloppy mud pit. I won't be able to use that area for years. They stink horribly. All they want is food. They are extremely strong and will knock you down into the mud. We figured out how much he cost me in food, medicine, and butchering costs, and for the same money, I could have just bought a butchered pig. Trust me, don't get a pig. Plus they are very social and you should have more than one. We just had the one, and I think he spited me by being tough and full of gristle. Damned pig.   We also have bees. They are fairly easy to care for, but there is a lot to know about them. Some people coast along and let nature take it's course, but to have a really good hive, takes some knowledge, and it doesn't come over night. They don't take a lot of time to care for, I check on mine every few weeks or so. The hard part for you, is with RA you might have difficulty lifting the hive boxes. Full of honey, they can be over 75 pounds. Fortunately, there is a robust community of beekeepers in nearly every TN county. They are a cool group of people, that love bees, adn are extremely helpful and eager to assist. Get into your county's beekeeper association, and you'l easily find someone to help you out. There is also about $500 worth of startup costs, between buying the hives, tools, suit and bees. Sadly, I think between bad luck and my own stupidity, I may have killed mine off. I looked in on them today, and the only bees I saw were dead ones.    Fruit trees will take time before they really start producing fruit. At least 5 years or so. Make sure to read the labels, some trees need to be planted in pairs to cross pollinate. Plant them away from where you live and hang out. We have two well established apple trees right near the pool, and thought we'll just make a nice little orchard all around the pool area. So we planted several more trees right there. Then the apples started dropping and made a huge stinky mess. This spring, I'm pulling up all the fruit trees I planted and moving them to the back 40. The deer can eat the ones that fall, or they can turn into fertilizer, I'll pick the ones I want to eat.   We planted a big garden last year, and it was a lot of work. I learned to never plant pumpkin in the garden - it took over everything. Plant it far away form the garden. We let the weeds get away, seemingly overnight, and I eventually had to keep them at bay with a weedeater. Cukes and tomatoes did really well. I'll plant a lot more corn this year. I'll skip the lima beans, they grew well, but it takes a bunch to make a meal. I harvested a whole row of limas and got maybe two meals from it all. I ran an electric fence wire all around the garden, and bugs were the only thing that ate anything. With that much land, offer a friend a garden plot, and you can work together. It's a lot more fun that way.   Take time every day to enjoy your property. You have a blessing not many people get. Good luck.

What is up with women carrying their guns in their purses? That is the worst place to carry a firearm because that is what the bad guy wants, the purse. And I suspect they are carrying them without a holster, or something to cover the trigger, which is almost equally stupid.   The left seems to be picking up on these events and it will be used for the next "for the children" legislation.   I was watching Nancy Grace the other day as she talked about the 5 year old who killed his 9 month old brother using their grandfather's handgun. She said that every time something like this happens EVERY person who owns a gun should be forced to pay. Then another commenter, who seemed to be a real dingbat, said the 5 year old should be punished to the full extent the law allows.

    I just posted how Healthcare has "something" to do with guns because the politicians want to use Healthcare as another avenue to usher in more gun control, which is why the NRA got involved in the ACA. I also posted how the Supreme Law of the Land, the Constitution, doesn't stop the anti-2A politicians from trying to restrict or revoke your rights, either.   So why do you think you can just keep putting more text in a law to supposedly protect gun owners when the Second Amendment doesn't even stop them?   It goes back to the point I made earlier. I'd rather not have the ACA nor the Haslam Medicaid expansion because it just gives Govt more area to control our lives (and guns). They have already shown us they want to use the ACA by inserting language in the law "to treat firearms as a matter of public health."   So knowing they wanted to do it from the start, tells us they'll keep trying to use the ACA law, and healthcare in general, to get more "gun control."    So I fully support the TFA's efforts to fight the Haslam Medicaid expansion. :) 

  If it were that easy, all we'd need is the Second Amendment to protect our gun rights since it is the Supreme Law of the Land. :up:   Not even the Constitution stops them from trying to restrict and revoke your Second Amendment gun rights, so how is another "section" of text added to a bill (that may or may not become law) going to protect you and your Second Amendment rights?    This is exactly why the TFA, NRA and GOA are constantly fighting on every avenue to protect your rights. 

GZ pretty much placed himself in the messed up life he's currently living and will have to step up and fix it or sink further into the cesspit he's in. He has consistently made bad choices which continue to keep him in the public eye. Foresight beats the heck out of hindsight but in all honesty people don't always think beyond the moment and fail to consider "what if".

The news every morning seems to report shootings daily in the areas with high populations.  It seems high populations and low HCP ratios work  well for those who wish to commit crimes.

I like it.... It sends the right message...The second amendment and firearms ownership is key to every citizen's freedom... Everybody needs to understand that....   More than that; it will send the "weenies" (...think inner city rats here; like Joe Armstrong...) into a fit, and that will be great to watch... I think the bbl nut not being torqued down properly is the issue. I can look down the hand guard wiggle it and see that its the nut moving. Sent a note to DSG this morning and got a quick reply saying they were sending a replacement complete upper out today along with a return tag for my existing one. Got a shipping confirmation a little later. Hard to beat that kind of customer service.

From all I have read the Century Arms 100% US made AK, the C39V2, is actually a really good gun. Version 1 was also a good gun but some of the parts were not made to the AK standard so they went with a newer version that accepts standard AK parts.   Never thought I would hear US made is a bad thing, especially weapons because we are no doubt the #1 gun producing country in the world. I am not talking sheer numbers but the variety so I would think if anyone can make a quality AK, and possibly improve upon it, it would be the United States. I suspect we are also the #1 producer but not 100% positive on that.

As one who is sick of waiting on the SIG MPX, I'll give this a serious look. Especially for under 1K.

How about a magazine that sends your round count to the cloud, then sends you & your battle buddy an alert via text message!
