I think you REALLY missed the point of his post. What I got from it is it's a tiring, grueling, thankless task where you are up against overwhelming odds all the time. Maybe you missed the part where he said he does this using time-off from work when his family would rather they be taking vacations. Honestly, very rarely do I read things on TGO that make me wish we were still in an age where we could remove a glove, slap another man across the face with it, and demand that an apology be issued for their transgression. You unlocked that achievement with that post.4 points

Nobody is paying me anything, for doing anything, my labors are 100% volunteer. I took another day's vacation, spent my gas money to drive to Nashville, and had 11 different meetings with legislators about the coming session just yesterday. Calling me a lobbyist is in fact an insult, they are paid hacks. Talked to two yesterday who privately told me they were personally against the issue they were selling, at least I am not guilty of that. By the way, I did not meet anyone else in the halls pushing firearms issues, had it all by my lonesome, again. TGO David had it correct, I was speaking in general to all who fuss about what the legislature or the NRA or the TFA or the Muffin Club should be doing, yet sit on their dead hinneys and type instead of doing something about it. When I mean to insult an individual, there is no mistaking it, it will be apparent to all who witness it, in print or in person. If a gentle remonstration about the actual actions that bear fruit for a cause are "insulting" to some, maybe the vicious halls of LP are not their best venue. If you are actually making headway on an issue, your very job may in fact be threatened. Oppositional research is employed against those who dare take issues to the various committees or Leadership, which by the way is where these battles are waged. It has to be lived to be appreciated. I do it for my grandchildren, there is not enough money to pay for the heartache and trouble that results, you win seldom, but the cost is monumental.3 points

Look, what I am seeing here is failure to comprehend what was written so let's take this from another angle: SHOW ME WHERE HE INSULTED YOU. I've read it several times and nowhere in there does he make a statement that seems like it was designed to insult or offend you. I see a point where he makes the statement "If you do not have at least five meetings scheduled with legislators at LP tomorrow, you are talking, not doing." but in this case the word YOU seems to be used in the first-person. That is the only area what I see what what he said might be misconstrued, and even that shouldn't trip up anyone who has ever written a first-person narrative before. So back to my last challenge, show me where he insulted you in his post. I maintain that you completely misunderstood the point of his post the same way you went straight to a literal interpretation of my statement about being slapped with a glove. While you're doing that, I can show you where what YOU (not used in the first-person, mind you) absolutely intended to offend him with your response. Hell, it offended me for him.3 points

Stopped in Cleveland at Dunham's Saturday, wife walked up to the counter and asked if I seen any I wanted. And a few minutes later she asked again, then after I was walking away she asked if I was sure I didn't see any. I can count at least six guns I've purchased due to saying, hey look at that and getting the response to buy it if I wanted it. I mentioned to her about seeing a Mosin at Buds that was nice but I already had one and she told me I should have bought it. Please help me, my wife is feeding my addiction lol!2 points

Well to me it feels like a tank. Finally, I entered the world of the 1911. Today was a day of a few firsts for me. A new caliber .45. Got to try out my alien gear holster for my G26 and my extended mag as well. I purchased a Rock island 1911-A1 here are a few pics. Another first for me, shooting a gun straight out of the box. I only sent 50 down range. My initial impressions for me are great. I really like the way this feels. My first non polymer pistol. I can live with the grips for now. My main fault ( which could be me) is that I did have a hard time picking up the front sight. Not a deal breaker. I am looking forward to breaking this gun in. One last picture. My baby glock. Shoots like a dream, just like its daddy the 17. The extended mag really makes a difference. Also in the pic is the alien gear leather owb. I have a iwb as well, but I felt like going owb today. I have this same set up for my 17. Now, all I need is a holster and some mags for the 1911. Maybe some grips on down the line. However, the front sight is my top priority.2 points

Well first I must thank Grand Torino, and everyone else who has posted in the knives and bladed tools section, thanks for all the motivation and inspiration! It basically started when my Ginormous knife arrived and I was thinking you know I can do this... Well I got to say I got a lot to learn, but I grabbed an old Nicholson file that I had in my workshop, grab the propane torch and started annealing, and broken that harbor freight 1 x 30" grinder!! I started yesterday afternoon and this is what I've come up with about 24 hours later. I made a jig and started my grind. I made sure to leave some of the final marks on the ninth so we still look cool and the Nicholson name. I didn't really draw anything out I just kind I had an idea in my head. My drillpress arrives tomorrow and I've got scales there epoxying right now, so next will be attaching the scales and then massaging them into shape! What are y'all think? I'm certainly not going to give up my day job but this is really addicting I can tell already!!! Jim PS I heat treated the knife on the knife with a propane torch "well actually two at one time" Quinched in motor oil . I was impatient but hell already tested with a file and is good and hard!2 points

It's very unAmerican not to own a 1911. Congratulations on joining the Society of 1911 Owners. :)2 points

I never said store owners can't request that I not bring a gun into their place of business. Removing posting laws wouldn't prevent shopkeepers from banning guns. It would remove the state-enforced criminal punishment for violating that private policy. It would make a "no guns" policy have the same force of law as a "no unattended children" policy. None at all, but still within the rights of the shopkeeper to have that policy and to enforce it through asking the offending person(s) to leave and filing trespassing charges if they refuse.2 points

2A coatings did up my wife's P238 slide & grips. Looks pretty snazzy, but I think it still needs a pink trigger to be complete. Might get around to taking it apart between classes in the spring. Thanks man1 point

Congrats on the first one!!! My sympathies on the amount of time and money you'll spend getting your next one or two, or three.1 point

Wow, that is a hard time line to get it passed and signed into law... but with the NRA coming here, it might be enough of a motive to get the legislature to pass something.1 point

Yup. TICS has brought in over $40million since it cranked up. Also, whether the astute minds on the Hill realize it or not, the HCP process will have to be changed some, or the Feds won't allow it to substitute for a background check anyway. I don't believe that was even addressed the last time this was debated in committee 3 years ago. - OS1 point

Thanks for the spreadsheet BigK! "One more column" could be the number of households in Tennessee versus the number of permit holders, which is 482,073 permit holders divided by 2,475,195 households for almost 20 percent (19.47%) of households. That suggests that when you see a family unit walking into Walmart, there's a one in five chance that Mom or Dad are packing. Restaurants might want to think about that as well with gun buster signs: do you want to run off one in five customer families? Probably not, and still stay in business.1 point

It would be nice if it said: WHEREAS, this legislative body began allowing guns in state parks and it has not developed into "blood in the streets" regardless of what Nancy Amons and Gail Kerr think.1 point

For someone new to the 1911 all black fixed sights or even white dot fixed sights would probably come across as being GI type sights. Those of us familiar with older 1911 or even GI surplus ones with their staked front sights would immediately know the difference. It amazes me how much time has so quickly gone by since Novak and Wilson type sights became the near norm on stock 1911's.1 point

Illustrates why our elected representatives don't really care that much what the "gun community" thinks and why it's so hard to get any sort of meaningful legislation through the system.1 point

I think that business owners should be able to disallow firearms, but on the flip side there should not be a weapons charge for someone with a handgun carry permit carrying a handgun at such business. I think it should be a trespass issue if the person with the handgun is asked to leave and doesn't leave. That works in most states, why can't it work here? We just need to find the right legislator to sponsor a bill and fix this problem. It is a pain to go anywhere in downtown Memphis because both private businesses and the local government offices all have 'no guns' signs. Of course you can say not give businesses your money, but when you are asked to meet somewhere for business or have to go to a local government building for work, good luck avoiding it all.1 point

I disagree with your first point vehemently. I believe that store owners have every right to request that you not bring a gun into their place of business. I believe that I have the same right when someone visits my house. However, I would like to civil liability placed on the store owner if something happens and adequate security is not provided.1 point

Plastic gun parts are typically "solvent resistant" since guns get cleaned with various solvents. Brake cleaner is easy since it's in an aerosol can, but a wipe down with an alcohol soaked rag (or dunk in a bucket) accomplishes the same thing. You're just making sure to get that last little but of grease or oil off the surfaces. Wear rubber/vinyl gloves when you do this and don't touch it with bare hands until the paint is dry.1 point

That stinks. Do you have to show a teachers union card to get an "education" plate? Or a Liberal card to get a Friends of Radnor Lake? Drive a tractor in to get one of the Agriculture plates? Bureaucratic hoopla. With overtones of "record keeping" of NRA guys.1 point

When you look at The Affordable Care Act and some of the gun related issues that surrounded it, like the left wanting to start a movement in American medicine to treat firearms as a matter of public health, I would agree with the TFA fighting against the Haslam Medicaid expansion in TN. We can go farther and point out that the NRA was involved in protecting your gun rights during the creation of the affordable healthcare act law. Would you rather they had ignored healthcare as an area to protect gun rights? Read this: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/01/09/this-is-how-a-secret-gun-provision-made-its-way-into-obamacare-legislation/ Or you can read this: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/wolf-blitzer-nra-pushed-provision-banning-doctors-from-discussing-guns-in-obamacare-seems-so-strange/ The NRA got in and saved gun owners asses by making sure that patients could not be penalized or discriminated against for owning firearms. The liberal left-wing is patently anti-second amendment. We have to be vigilant in every area of law making for anti-2A law and regulations being added or amended. So if I were you, I'd keep right on supporting the TFA, NRA and GOA. :up:1 point

That's great if I hold off on buying a gun once a year. I'd rather see legislation that gets rid of the background check fee for HCP holders.1 point

I think any TGO YouTube channel, should be Tennessee centric. With local gun shop reviews (maybe even our vendors will let a TGO'er film a review in shop), range walks showing off the features of local ranges, local 3-gun competitions, ect...someone who is searching for what Tennessee has to offer gun wise has a great resource. Other things can be put on there, but adding things that are already on YouTube in abundance doesn't offer anything unique from our online community here.1 point

David, I think you covered it all for the most part. But to be more specific... I'd like to see: Local political and legal issues coverage pertaining to second amendment. Interviews with politicians putting them on the spot so we can see where they stand on 2A rights. Long range tactical shooting how-to's. Building and modifying firearms (like AR's) for specific purposes (long range, CQB, AR pistols, NFA, etc.) Filming of local shooting competitions, such as long range and 3 gun. Interviews with local gun manufacturers and manufacturing facility tours showing the inside workings, etc.. Then get more in depth with each firearm they make. Interviews with local gun celebrities such as Hickock45, etc... Getting inside interviews, Q & A's with gun rights organizations such as GOA, NRA and the TFA. It would be nice to have a direct line to these orgs so we can actually communicate and get them working on some side issues while the major 2A rights battles have calmed down (NFA, etc.). Reloading and bullet casting videos. Reloading products reviews.1 point

I like the ideas you mentioned. You could also try to do a few videos that are specific to TN such as: places to shoot(and reviews of those ranges), upcoming competitions or events, any changes to state gun laws etc...1 point

Shooting with the general public can be exciting enough as it is, I'm personally glad that most ranges won't let John Q Public practice yanking their gats out of their clipped on uncle Mikes with me and my family in the next lane. "Rapid fire" rules do suck for those of us who are capable of both walking AND talking at the same time, but it is what it is.1 point
