  3. We have a supermajority in both houses of congress in TN to go along with the governor's mansion.  We passed far more restorative measures re Article 1 Section 26 when we had a Democrat for governor and a basic 50/50 split for the legislature .  The more one sided it gets, the less we get done in Tennessee. NRA loves Lamar Alexander, the only Republican Senator to vote against the permit carrier to be allowed to keep their lawfully owned firearm in a Federal Park. We shgould not back parties, bur rather principals, and individauls.

  4. If you had a real Conservative Leadership group it would be one thing, but Haslam has shown that he is willing to put an iron foot down on "expanding gun rights", which in truth should be termed "restoring gun rights". Till the current Leadership group which holds monetary sway on the big PACs changes, the little people will do what the Big Man says. Always remember politicians care more about getting re-elected than any other single thing.

  6. My friend, teacher and mentor Colonel Dwight Mclemore ordered a new knife from me about a month ago. He sent me a very detailed drawing of what he wanted for his long hunter kit that he is putting together. According to him, this represents closely what would have been a normal blade style at that time. Very plain, blacksmith made, no guard, heavy duty kitchen knife. I have to say after seeing it in steel it screams all utility no frills. This one is special, as it was forged qnd finished by my dad, at 61 yrs old. This is the first knife made for a customer entirely by him, he usually just watches and advises. Now on to the good stuff. Its made from 1/4" thick 5160. The back of the blade was hammer textured and everything was left forge finished at the Colonels request. 10" blade, 5 1/4" handle. Handle is oak, fitted with brass pins and epoxy, and artificially aged. By far the coolest design picture I've ever seen. Hand drawn by Dwight. The hands that make the knife. Thats 60 years of experience, hard work, scars and calluses. These hands taught me everything I know. For those of you who know me, you can kinda compare the size. For size reference I am 6'1" and 250 lbs so it is a good sized knife.

  7. Had a couple of great days fishing the beach this week down in Seagrove Beach. Caught this redfish that was just in the slot within 20 minutes of my line hitting the water. It's rare that you get to share such a treat with family and friends, but the meal that this fish provided was a true blessing - blackened redfish over smoked Gouda cheese grits.

  10. And, really.... Daryl and Aaron getting out of the car that was totally surrounded by zeds and making it to safety without a single bite or scratch? I know Morgan came to the rescue, but he could only handle Aaron's side and Daryl had to fight his way out by himself.    I'm calling BS on that one.

  11.   Fort Campbell's rules seem to be modeled after how I dress when I ride every time I get on my bike, except they seem to have left out gloves. Wouldn't blow my mind a bit.   Again, everyone seems OK with these laws that don't affect them. So why then do we not support "common sense" gun laws that are aimed at those who "can't take of themselves"? It's exactly the same thing. We either need laws that treat us like children that can't make our own decisions or we don't. I choose don't.

  12. That's some good stuff! We took my kids fishing at the beach for the first time a few years ago. My little one caught this redfish on that tiny little rod with 4lb line, a hook, and a bobber. It weighed nearly as much as him. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to keep it, but the kids had a blast. We're planning to go to St. George in the fall. If you happen to know, what are the fishing regs there and are there any good spots?

  14. My family was visiting Pigeon Forge last weekend. On our way home we stopped at a Cracker Barrel before hitting the interstate. We had an older gentlemen that waited on us that obviously didn't have much experience with serving. He was very polite and after our order he said let this old Marine get this order in. By the time our breakfast was done he had been probably the most polite and courteous waiter I have ever had. A friend from home was in the restaurant and we picked up his bill. Anyway for our waiter we had left a tip that was almost the total of the bill. While we where checking out he ran out to make sure we meant to leave that much. Wanted to know if he was supposed to split with the other waiter which we told him no. That the tip was for the great service for the meal and to our country, he almost was in tears and said thanks that he was working there because both of his boys where overseas and his daughter in law was in Korea. He has his grandchildren for eleven months til they get home , and needed every penny he could make for the kids. Just thought that was worth sharing about the kind of people this country never hears about.

  18. Wife and I bought a new place 6+ weeks ago.  Was fortunate enough that we did not have to sell our other place, but we decided to rent it.  Been moving stuff and more stuff for weeks, and the gun safe was the last item to move. This was yesterday to move the last item!  Its a 60"x40"x30" type heavy heavy safe.  She and I actually moved it the first time maybe 14-15 years ago.  This time, she called my brother to take her place.  All I can say is moving the safe was tough, no issues, but I am sore just tugging and pulling.   We used PVC pipe and used an enclosed trailer that had a loading ramp.  Thankfully no steps anywhere, but had a door threshold that had about 2-3" drop, but used a 2" diameter PVC for that.  Was able to transport the safe in an enclosed trailer with heavy duty straps.  Then had two thresholds at the new house with sliding glass doors to go through.  Had to use wood and planking around the runners of the glass doors to avoid damage.    Safe is now in place on concrete, and finished up anchoring the safe using 3/4" diameter wedge anchors late last night that I found at Home Depot.  Thankfully had a hammer drill, piece of cake to drill 4-6" deep into the concrete.    Conclusion, my kids can move the safe next.  And if I buy another, which I do need one, I will gladly pay for the installation!  Feels good to have the guns back in the safe location!

  25. I don't know if you're into Civil War history, but you could go see the Sam Davis home.  It's in Smyrna.  He was a Confederate courier who was captured and hanged for a spy.  IIRC the house has a sizable outdoor area where you could let the dogs work off some energy.

  26. Okay, rather than start a new thread I thought I would just piggy-back onto peejman's. As I said, after seeing this thread I decided to order one of these knives for myself. It is a nice looking knife. One thing I really like about it is just how thick the blade is at the spine and, in fact, over all except where it tapers down to the edge. I didn't take a picture of the spine because I thought peejman had included one in his post. Now that I see he didn't, I might go back and take one to post. Mine was not shaving sharp out of the box but did come with a good, serviceable edge. I actually sometimes wonder if every knife needs to be 'shaving sharp' or if, in some cases, a good but not razor edge might hold up to certain uses longer. Either way, I will probably spend some time with this knife and the honing stones at some point. Anyhow, here are some pics. My pics of this knife aren't nearly as good as peejman's but maybe they will serve the purpose. These give some idea of how the knife arrived (I didn't take pics of the shipping box, etc. as I figured those were unnecessary) : Here are a couple of it 'striking a pose': This is a pic to show the size of the Boker compared to a dolla' and my usual edc Kershaw Crown. As peejman said, when in locations that a fixed blade can be practically carried this one is a good size just for a general carry blade. I think. I thought the wood on the scales felt kind of 'dry' for lack of a better term. The 'dryness' made me concerned that the wood might be a little brittle. It may have been all in my head but just in case I decided to rub a little Johnson's paste wax on the scales (because that is what I had handy) and then wipe them down with a paper napkin. The wood doesn't feel as 'thirsty' to me, now, and I think the paste wax brings out the color a little more. I think I am going to like this little knife. It is my first Boker fixed blade and, unless I am forgetting something, my first Boker, period (almost certainly my first from the current incarnation of the company.) I will have to be careful not to get carried away and try to use the rope/branch cutting notch as a finger choil as it is sharp enough to do some damage to a wayward finger if the user isn't paying attention. That isn't a 'drawback' of the knife, just something I will have to pay attention to. I do think that notch would be useful for some tasks. The sheath is nothing special but nothing to complain about, either. Just a good, serviceable sheath for a knife of this type. All in all, at the price point and intended use there is only one thing I would change about it. That is, I really wish it had a lanyard hole so I could attach a short lanyard (I would set it up to be slipped over my ring finger during use, not as a long, wrist lanyard.) Otherwise, it is looking pretty good.

  28.   Then they should mention it somewhere along the line. Like, "geez, their skulls aren't nearly as hard as they used to be, must have something to do with the zombie process". Just like, "geez, why don't they rot away, I mean no circulation, hell they don't even breathe, guess the virus doesn't something to retard it." Or let Eugene pontificate from some store of physiological trivia as to something like your possibility, whatever.    Just saying that for best suspension of disbelief, there have to be "rules", however absurd to compared to reality,  they need to make sense compared to how they differ from reality. You can get away with almost anything for a two hour movie without the "rules", but eventually the fantasy becomes too evident without them when the rules get more lax without explanation.   Hell, now Aaron just sliced one in half with a frigging license plate, for c'sakes.  If the skulls get any softer, a stiff middle finger will suffice.   - OS

  36. We had 7 adults and 9 kids down there. That redfish fed everyone. We made fish tacos with the pompano. We didn't want a single bite of the meat to go to waste, so we all ate until we were stuffed. We got to have some good conversations with a bunch of the kids, too - several of whom don't really come from sporting families. We got to talk about what it means to consume meat, and why some of us think it's important to participate in the food chain - how getting literal blood on our hands makes us more fully appreciate the proverbial blood each of us omnivores has on our hands. My oldest daughter and I have had this conversation before, and she really got it this time. It's neat because when we shared the meal that the redfish provided with our family and friends she really understood the almost sacred act that those meals represent to so many of us.

  38. Was coming home from an 8 hour road trip, come across a check point right near the house and when I finally got up to the row of deputies, I wound up with a young deputy and he waved me through, I asked what the checkpoint was about and he (hesitantly) said a seatbelt check.    He was irritated that they were doing this from what I could sense and see in his eyes. Rightfully so, it was ugly situation in this great country.   Ive got a some pretty patriotic LEO's in my community and I've wondered how many of them are members here.

  39. Actually a system that is too large will be less efficient and less comfortable. In the summer it will not remove the humidity so you never really feel cool. In the winter it will heat the house too fast and not allow for balanced heat. The unit must be sized correctly so it can condition the load correctly. I would suspect that comfort is the main issue in this case.

  41. This particular incident will be fixed due the public outrage. Unfortunately another school administrator with nearly 30 years on the job will have to have common sense explained to them. I’m sure there are plenty of intelligent teachers in our system. But teachers being allowed to make dumbazz decisions like this make them all a target of criticism. Teachers should be upset also and question the ability of administrators when they make decisions that defy common sense.

  45. Two other possibilities. The first is a variant on Leroy's post:   One part Murphy's Oil Soap One part hydrogen peroxide One part 90% isopropyl rubbing alcohol   The other is one part Ballistol to 10 parts water.   With either, mix well before use.  Swab the barrel generously with the mix, run a dry patch, then lube as you would normally.
