That's kind of like a good hammer... every self-respectin', God and Country Lovin', Constitution supportin', law abidin', Freedom lovin' American should have one.  I in no way intended to leave out the Ladies that fall into this category.  I just got excited.

  8.   Yes, any new guns are sold with locks from the manufacturer, trigger lock or those you slide through the barrel, etc. That's not what I mean though. I'm talking about having some neat safety devices and lockboxes on display to showcase and hopefully gather interest, and to actually making it part of the conversation. For example, "congrats, enjoy your new Ruger. BTW: If you have kids how do you intend to keep the gun safe? We got these nifty little lockboxes..."  etc.   This law claims to prevent death by scaring gun owners. Well, it doesn't prevent death, it punishes death. Prevention involves more than punishment after the fact. As other said, there are already existing laws that can be applied.   The fact that a reactive punishment is proposed rather than a proactive solution (like the requirement of locks to be sold with new guns) means to me that the proposer of this law cares less about children safety and more about "gun punishment".   I don't know, maybe I'm thinking about this wrong. (my mind is weird sometimes). We tend to avoid hard proactive solutions in favor of easier reactive solutions, but pat ourselves on the back for doing something.

  9. I think the point is that there are already laws on the books that can take care of gross negligence.  If you put a law on the books which targets gun owners it opens the door to greater restrictions.  I also don't feel all cases are the same, if a kid goes in and actively seeks out a weapon, comes out and uses it as intended, it is much different than when a parent leaves a gun in a purse in a vehicle with kids unsupervised.

  10. I think it's a great idea. Once the ammo is spent, you have miniature nunchucks! Or, if you make the rope longer, and perhaps use piano wire, you now have a garrote! Your pistol has become multi-weapon tool!   :D

  11. I actually agree with this idea. Safety is the most important part of owning a gun, and if takes the threat of judicial punishment to make certain people adhere to safety protocols that is fine by me. As a parent of a young child I have ensuring I dont just leave guns laying EVERYWHERE like I did when I was single - I couldnt imagine being able to cope with the guilt if something like that happens. Besides, if the Dems are allowed to push this we may get some political leeway in the way of taking down gun buster signs or getting ConCarry passed Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

  15. I Hava a 226 Sao legion. My wife bought me. (She's a keeper!) See this post for my thoughts http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/94892-sig-p226-legion/ I'll put it up against a Kimber for fit and probably better function. If you already have the 229. I'd add the grips from hogue, and a little trigger work and the SRT kt and you're almost there for less. Not as pretty as the Kimberly 1911 but still cool.

  17. I carried it a lot with Cor-Bon 135gr+p (not available anymore) I shot many many handloaded 155gr cast SWC & plated flat point. I always liked lighter bullets, nothing more than 165gr. I don't think I ever shot 180's in it. The lighter bullets seem to minimize the snappy nature of full power loads, but muzzle blast can be a bit greater.

  29. 5 years ago I had a chance to trade an Ed Brown 1911 for a NIB Python with I believe a 2 inch Barrel. This gun was from Dallas Texas and was still in the plastic bag with oil, it was Blued I declined and 2 years later the man emailed me asking if I wanted to buy it outright for $3400.00, I declined and a few weeks later he sent me a screenshot of the pistol selling on Gun Broker for just under 4K This is one of those things in life where I wish I could go back and trade the 1911 for it I adore Colt revolvers they were very special in my opinion, if they ever decide to make new ones they will not be the same

  32. Well I took it to the range today and had mixed results.  I had a selection of ammo and will report the groups later, but I'll just say that it did not like the cheap ball ammo unfortunately.  I had a few issues that can be corrected.  First, my trigger pin started walking out causing some malfunctions because I didn't catch it in time.  Luckily it didn't do too much damage and the trigger still functions fine.  I will be getting some KNS anti rotation pins.  Secondly,  I had a few light primer strikes, but these were on reloads and so I'll take the blame.  I believe the primer wasn't seated fully on a few of the rounds.  I will need a heavier buffer/more refined  gas tuning because the bcg actually contacted the lower receiver a few times and caused a small ding on each side.  I'll post a pic later, but that can be resolved as well.  The brake is very effective without the can although recoil was a bit harsh due to the above mentioned buffer/gas problem.  DO NOT buy the radical arms buffer.  It's cheaply made and not heavy enough.    It did feed everything and I did not experience any jams at all.    Here are group results using a bipod/bag....no shooting rest.  These are 5 shot groups excluding flyer.   Perfecta 147gr - 2.08" Freedom munitions 147gr - 3.8" Federal XM80 149gr- 3.25" Hornady 150 fmj handload - 2.8" Hornady 168 bthp handload - 1.4" Hornady match 168 bthp - 1.2" Hornady 178 amax handload - 0.82" and 0.68"   So, as you can see, this barrel likes the heavies.  I'll experiment more with the 168's because they are cheaper to load.  I'll also do some more experimenting to see if I can tighten up those 150fmj loads for plinking.    I did get some ejector swipes on some of the brass.  I wasn't really paying attention so I don't know what was the culprit.  A few of those handloads were pretty hot for a bolt gun, so I'm thinking that's where my issue is.  I plan on dialing back a bit to see if that goes away.    Once again, these are the first shots of this barrel so I'm hoping it settles in a little and shoots those better.  This thing was like a shotgun with that freedom munitions stuff.  I've never been impressed with their lighter weight rifle ammo.   That's all for now.

  35. I have TFO on a Sig P220 and after about 1500rnds no issues at all. The TFX Pro has a large Orange dot surrounding the tritium/fiber-optic insert. Looks a lot like the Trijicon HD.   I am considering them for another gun as I like that BIG front dot. I will probably do so in the not too distant future. Go for it!

  36. I think it leaves your spare mag dangling wildly about beneath your handgun which makes it a moving target for you to try and grasp and properly index with your weak-hand in a mag change. There's a reason why most savvy shooters keep their spare mag in exactly the same spot on their belt every time they carry, with the front of the mag facing toward the front of their body, so that they can grab it, index it, and correctly insert it into the firearm in one very quick motion relying entirely on muscle memory. It's repeatable, every time. What you created is an Ammo Piñata. Maybe you'll catch it, maybe you won't. :)

  37. The internetz is a mean, mean place.     My experience certainly isn't universal, but I've beat the snot out of several sets of TFOs for years and never had an issue.  I wouldn't hesitate to put them on another weapon.

  38. I received a P226 SAO Legion from my wife as a gift and after shooting it a bit I thought I'd share my thoughts... The Legion branding is nice, but to me its just something additional, and not a reason to buy the gun. Reasons to buy the gun are: The factory trigger work and parts. The SAO trigger breaks right at 3.5lb on my example. Like all SIGs made now with MIM parts there is s slight caming of the hammer when the trigger is pulled. I can't imagine what the trigger will be like after several thousand rounds. Normally I can't resist a little action work on a gun, but this one doesn't need it and I'll be leaving it alone. The Grips, For shooting the grips are fantastic. The checkering is just right. Many guns today seem to have slippery grip finishes. These are really good. Maybe a bit aggressive for carry but could be toned down with a light scuff to take the sharp points off. The down side to the grips is that the bottom edge is VERY sharp, I took a nail file and knocked the edge off. You cant see it, but you sure can feel it! There is also an opening (See Pic) at the bottom rear of the grip that will allow dirt, lint, etc to get into the action. I will probably fill this with something in the near future. The Frame changes, The beaver tail is nice, but not a deal breaker for me. I have a couple of other SIG's and never missed it. The front strap checkering, and undercut are nice, the undercut is subtle but feels good. I don;t think I'm going to rush out and do this to my P220, or P229, but it is a nice add on. The Finish. PVD finish is hard and should wear well. PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is the same method used to apply TiN coating to machine tool bits. This finish should not wear off in normal use. It is harder to apply than the standard Nitron finish and should wear three times better. Time will tell... Sig X-Ray sights. These are really Trijicon HD sights branded as Sig. They are truly great sights and I would highly recommend them to anyone that wants that Big dot out front. In the end you could make a nearly Legion copy by adding the Checkered Hogue grips, Trijicon HD sights, and having a good trigger job done. The finish and frame work are harder to duplicate, but it also could be added to a standard SIG. In the end you would spend a bit more even without the finish. I won't call it a bargain (no SIG is) but to get the same performance out of a standard SIG would cost you a bit more. If I already owned a SIG I wouldn't trade it on a Legion version, I'd make the additions to the gun I already have. One nice feature that I didn't realize I was getting is that on an SAO SIG the slide can be racked with the safety engaged. This makes clearing the gun a bit safer than it is with a 1911, or a SIG X-5 that locks the slide when the safety is engaged. For me the biggest disappointment is the gap at the bottom of the grip. I intend to shoot this gun a lot and It would be a shame to ruin all that nice action work with dirt and grit. When I fill it I'll let you know how I did it.

  39. I've been following the Texas open carry law change with some interest, and it seems at least on the surface, that more folks open carrying has lead to more businesses being posted.   http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=82553   You can peruse some of the other threads, but the general gist is that businesses and the anti-gun folks have used open carry as an excuse to get businesses to post "no gun" signs that carry legal weight.   I'm all for constitutional carry, but I'm afraid that the same thing will happen here if we don't have the sign issue addressed first.

  41. Retention holsters and open carry go hand in hand. Weapon retention training is a great idea. I would think a hightened sense of situational awareness would also naturally accompany open carry folks. On the flip side open carry can send the signal that you are a hard target and MIGHT make criminals think twice. I also doubt the situation went down exactly like the news reported. I still view open carry as more of a political statement than good defensive practice. I guess if it is all you can do then it's better than nothing.
    1 point
  42. Not intended to be negative in any way here but how many HCP holders here have ever been taught and practiced weapon retention techniques or disarming techniques? For those prior or current LEO who have do you practice them at all? You can buy every Level III or IV holster available and I promise you they are nowhere near as secure as you think that they are. How you carry is your business and if you choose to be irresponsible or imprudent then that burden gets passed on to others. Its kind of like the mantra (lack of prior planning leads to.)... You should be able to finish the rest. Its not about ego or exerting your rights, just use some good sense and be safe.

  46. Thursday is the filing deadline for bills.  If you want to see a bill that has a chance of passing (getting through finance committee) you might want to contact your representative/senator.  I don't think Constitutional carry will get anywhere because of the loss of money to the state with people not buying permits.    If you want to see an exemption for people with permits on school property or get rid of the 'no guns' signs law, then now would be the time to get that in.  There should be no excuse a school exemption or no gun sign bill would get tied up in finance committee.
