  1. I don't know what it is exactly with rabbit ear doubles..... they just speak to me in some mystical way. I have a Doumolin 16g and now this new acquisition from GB for the rather decent price of $221 shipped. Its a 10g tank that I promptly cut down to 18.5 inches. The bores are about 75-80% . The old Damascus cannon has just the tiniest lock up movement over its strong dual under lugs. I intend to line the bores as a 12g and 30-30. Theres plenty of meat in the barrels to bore out for a 12g lining and I'v got some SS 308 blanks that I'll turn to light weight and bushing it in with aluminum. Top it off with a quick change lateral sliding rear sight for either barrel. The sad part is it falls in line with some other projects ........ still waiting for that illusive "time" thing to come around! My addiction exposed.........

  2. Damn shame it’s gotten to this point. Not that Hickok is the be-all, end-all of the gun community, but I agree with him. The NRA needs to straighten out and do it now. They cannot afford ANY type of internal strife, nor can gun owners.

  3. I refuse to let violent murderers change how I act and where I go. I also refuse to drag a bunch of stuff around with me in case something happens. If that causes my death; so be it. Granted, the world is a dangerous place; but if you are always fearful you will miss a lot of living. But that’s just me, everyone has to do what they are ready to take responsibility for. Because you are the only one responsible for your safety.

  5. I had been eyeing the Nessmuk simply because of the grip, pinecone stabilized in green resin In person, even better. Didn't know what a Nessmuk was, found this article http://www.thetruthaboutknives.com/know-your-knives-the-nessmuk-knife/ Worth every bit of $100, but when GT offered a two for one, I was in. The hand selected blade is a better fit for my needs, so Best Gun Buddy will be getting the 'muk to join the GT Feather Knife.

  7. The most important thing to me on a gun even before the price is the location. It doesn’t appear to me that I can see guns for sale in Tennessee on Gun Broker without going in, doing a search, and picking Tennessee in the location box. That’s too convoluted; am I missing something?? I have to admit Armslist might be loaded with scams and nutcases; but they have the best web site for buying used guns. A couple of clicks and I can see what is for sale in this state, and one more click and I can go to my city. That’s the way it should be.

  8. No tips on construction, that's easy enough. But getting enough soil is/can be a hassle. I ended up buying two 20 yard dumps of Holy Cow brand soil out of Nashville. I'm pepper/chili heavy this year, and since I have plenty of tomatoes canned, I am doing some experimental varieties this year and only have a couple plants for slicers and salad cherries. Will go around and get some current pics to share, but here's some Anaheims from a couple years back... And I love the Blueberries I can grow here. Never had success with them until moving here.

  10. Well, my choices would be the 45-70 but the 3, 45-70 barrels I have are really nice octagon take offs. Now the other side of the pressure story that's seldom added to the equation, is recoil forces upon the breach. If this was a different lock up design of less than best quality soldering in the chamber end I would not go the hotter 30-30. The 30-30 recoil forces upon the breach face is not the problem. The only issues I can see is more than likely a bushed FP hole for a smaller FP tip and monitor head space, but again, the extra large surface area of the hinge pin and hardened lock plate are all built for moving 1 & 1/4 oz shot along at a fair pace ahead of the BP explosion. Most of todays factory 30-30 loads are not quite optimal pressures. Just as the factory 45-70 is a whisper of what the hand loader can do. So, At worst, IMO, some head space may become evident with steady use since the breach lug is not a heat treat hardened surface. I would wring it out with a couple boxes, measure for head space and if no change, put it away for maybe an around the house blaster.

  18. Deer season is five months away. You spent a lot of money on top quality equipment from your bow, to your sight, to your release. Get with someone (even if you have to pay them) and in two or three sessions you should be ready to hunt deer. The archery part of it isn’t hard; don’t talk yourself into thinking it is. Getting a shot at a deer is a different story. I had an Indian friend tell me once that if his ancestors would have had compound bows; this country would still be theirs.

  21. Police Departments should, and do, have control over what their Officers say and do in public. If a Police Officer is making controversial statements on Facebook; they are probably too stupid to be a cop. However, that should be discovered in the pre-employment interview process. If I were a Chief of Police I would end the Social Media issue in one day. The Police Department I was on had a Citizens Complaint system in place that worked. If a cop does or says something wrong on social media; report them. Many people that make complaints against cops are good people doing what they think is right. But many are simply cop haters that will lie and do anything they have to, to get a cop in trouble. It’s not hard for the Command Officers to tell the difference. I don’t know how a Police Department could justify having a “list” of Officers that are not “trusted”. I see that there are DA’s that have such lists. Most of those DA’s are simply playing politics and not worthy of the position they have. However, Officers that are wrongly accused have recourse; the same as anyone else. Officers can sue those that lie about them or DA’s that put them on “lists”. I don’t know why anyone that is young, educated and has a clean record would want to be a cop nowadays. But as fewer want the job; the worse it will get. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying cops don’t have to be held to a high standard; they do. But when accusations are made; they need to be dealt with properly. Citizens need to step up and support their Police Officers when they are in the right. But Chuck you and I have had this discussion many times. We will never agree on this.

  22. If you run toward the gunfire armed to the teeth you need to be in uniform or possibility of friendly fire coming your way. Every situation is unique and you have to be there to develop a plan. The first rule as a civilian is to extract yourself from immediate danger and decide your next course of action.

  23. Lots of reasons. Warehousing and storage and other forms of overhead, the possibilities of laws/customs regulations changing, economy of scale, all factors which will provide impetus for importers to move lots of guns in the shortest amount of time. It's basically the model the whole industry was built on, from Bannerman's through Sam Cummings to Classic/SOG/AIM today ...

  25. Stallone is about anti gun as one can get, but dont mind making money form using them in the movies. I do not spend money on the POS what so ever! https://www.thedailybeast.com/rambo-hates-guns-how-sylvester-stallone-became-the-most-anti-gun-celeb-in-hollywood After the shooting death of his friend, comedian Phil Hartman, in 1998, Stallone became particularly passionate about the issue. And it wasn’t just lax gun laws he was angry about; he wanted to blow a hole through the Second Amendment: “It has to be stopped, and someone really has to go on the line, a certain dauntless political figure, and say, ‘It’s ending, it’s over, all bets are off, it’s not 200 years ago, we don’t need [the Second Amendment] anymore, and the rest of the world doesn’t have it,’” Stallone told Access Hollywood in 1998. “Why should we?” “Until America, door to door, takes every handgun, this is what you’re gonna have,” added Stallone. “It’s pathetic. It really is pathetic. It’s sad. We’re living in the Dark Ages [in America].”

  27. Any company I work for has the prerogative to request a cab facing camera, I can choose to comply or quit. I’m not too far from you in that if the cops don’t want to wear bodycams they absolutely should quit. As their employer (at least they claim to work fork for the people, I have doubts about that), I want them to wear them because no, I don’t trust them to be honest. If they don’t like it, I don’t care. Just like the companies that require cab cameras don’t really care if I like it or not. We both have choices to make and both have to live with the consequences. Out of curiosity, what do you think about the departments that have added officers to lists of non-trusted for warrants and affidavits because of their social media posts documented by the Plain View Project?

  30. Hell I’ve set my camera off three times this week. I haven’t been called in for coaching by someone who has never driven a truck yet. They still say no to hands free. Like I said earlier, it’s the only way I talk on a phone , driving or not.

  32. I have a crew of other drivers that I talk to. Driving a CMV while talking on the phone using a headset is legal and isn’t rocket surgery. We drive and chat all day. As far as cab facing cameras go, while increasingly common, they are by no means universal or even close to it. My take on them is if you can’t trust me to get your freight from point a to be safely without your eye in the sky watching me, you don’t need me to be hauling for you. My company tested them and determined that they were a greater liability than potential benefit. Anyone who wants to put a camera on me can pound sand.

  34. Importers have historically flooded the market with various milsurp rifles, selling them at near giveaway prices. The supply dries up, and then everyone wishes they'd have bought one. Up goes the price. I never understood why they didn't drip these things on the market little by little, pricing them much higher. Stack em deep while they are cheap. Some folks never get this.

  35. Thanks @Omega. Speaking of vac sealing and freezing... I picked up a Food Saver Gamesaver Outdoorsman (Model 2050) last Black Friday and a case of 18 rolls of bags at a 50% off sale. That thing is a beast! Very fast and simple to run and doesn't overheat requiring a cool down period like the old Black & Decker model I used for 15 years. Vac Sealing saves us a bunch of money each year as we can bulk purchase meats etc on sale and vac seal them. Highly recommended if anyone is considering purchasing one. Just put it on your Black Friday Wish List!

  40. I'm just saying it's happened numerous times in the past and I dread it every time it does.  I think that customers should be savvy and know when a business provides less than acceptable customer service, so don't get me wrong here.  I'm just saying these threads almost always result in some junior lawyer wannabe sending me an email telling me they're going to sue me or TGO because of what someone else posted on this site about their business.  Libel, slander, etc.   None of which is even remotely applicable because people are allowed to have opinions and are allowed to share them like this, but it never stops the guy who thinks his childhood spent watching The People's Court from thinking that makes him a lawyer and sending stupid emails.   Sorry to vent.  Just a glimpse inside my world I suppose.   :)

  41. I've had success with tomatoes - try planting your plants deeper (I'll put an 8-inch plant deep enough so that only 1-2 inches shows above ground) and put a tablespoon of garden lime (I bought mine from a nursery for $3 bag) at the bottom of the whole before planting. Then miracle-grow the sh*t out of them. Nice composter!
