Yesterday, six friends and myself, piled into a van and went to Louisville, KY. for the annual "Show of Shows" at the Ky Expo Center. We went last year and were hooked. It is absolutely unbelievable. Anyway, while there, I channeled my inner "Snaveba" and found this Winchester 1886 in 45 - 70 at a price I could not pass up. I have been wanting to get something in that caliber for some time, so this sort of allowed me to scratch a couple of itches at once. Have not shot it yet, but hopefully that will be in near future. I want to add a tang sight and Marbles makes a really nice one that allows adjustment for both elevation and windage. However, it is going to require drilling a hole in the tang and they recommend a gunsmith to do this. I am not set up for such an endeavor. Do any of you know of a good and reliable gunsmith in mid-state area that might do this?7 points

Super Tuesday is almost upon us. As well as other Primaries all around the nation. I strongly urge everyone to vote in the primaries. Let's be honest here. Come November the vast majority of voters are gonna go into the polling booth and simply vote straight R or D depending on their beliefs. They won't even care who the candidates are. If you want real changes, you have to do it in the primaries which determine who will be on that November ballot. Sick and tired of those worthless Congress critters that have been in Washington 20,30 even 40 years? This is where you get rid of them. Same thing in State and local government. We need fresh blood and new ideas folks. This is where you get them. VOTE and make your voices heard!4 points

Project gun, but could be made pretty again with a lot of work. I've only fired it once with shorts and long rifle to test for function. Worked fine and the shorts were fun, so quiet. The good: If I ran the serial number correctly, looks like it was manufactured in 1952. It has the fatter forearm than the later models. It works, the walnut has some nice grain, and it's got potential. The bad: Looks like some idiot used the forearm for a hammer. The butt plate is not correct, a Fajen, not a Marlin. It will need a total re-blue and stock finish. It has to holes drilled and tapped in the receiver, which I imagine was for a side mount. $400 no haggle, if you look at the big gun sites, you know what a pretty one is bringing.3 points

Interesting article I found on another forum. Four reform candidates for NRA Board. Interesting tactic too. https://www.ammoland.com/2024/02/nra-board-elections-support-the-four-for-reform-candidates/#axzz8SOTPqzMG3 points

More downsizing. Excellent condition 6" 648-2. I thought I had the box, but apparently not. Ahrends cocobolo grips. You can't get them anymore and they are very expensive to buy them now. Most I see are in the $250 range I am pretty sure I have the original Hogue's here that I will include if I can find them. I won't separate the Ahrends grips from the pistol. $1000. Meet within a reasonable distance (30 min) of Chapel Hill.2 points

It's surprised the heck outta me...but only one member of my family interested in things like slug throwers anymore. So I'm holding a few in reserve for a cousin and his son, but the rest I plan on selling over the next few years. I hope. If we don't all get reamed by the current gubment!2 points

Any type of refinishing or modification will reduce the value of it.Your gun, your call.If you’re leaving it for future generations that’s something to consider. If not, gold plate it.2 points

Bingo. It isn’t that it definitely will lead to positive changes, but unlike when WLP had an iron grip on things, they can change. I still believe the NRA could be a massive force for good if managed effectively. Imagine if the FPC or GOA had the resources and name recognition of the NRA? How much could get done then?2 points

Agreed on the above comment on the safety - I found that mine snapped to "safe" on multiple occasions in my pocket. I always (or at least I thought) carried it unsafed (in a proper pocket holster). Other than that I enjoy it - it's not as snappy as you'd think, and I have gotten good life out of the laser battery. On really hot TN days, I've carried it at times where I probably wouldn't have carried anything else. Let us know if you like it! Also: I found that in terms of comfort and conceal-ability (and the price is good) the below holster is my favorite. The little rubbery thing that causes it to stay in your pockets as you draw works surprisingly well. https://comforttac.com/products/the-ultimate-pocket-holster-for-concealed-carry-subcompact1 point

Harrods Edition Tudor Black Bay. Put my name down for one in May of 2022 when I was in London and they called me in Dec of 23 and said it was available for PU. My sister just so happened to be there at the same time and was luckily able to pick it up for me. When I got it I looked at the serial number and it’s a mixture of mine and my dads birthdays who passed away in December of 22.1 point

I see more wheelchairs than you'd imagine every year at the NRA Convention. Most venues there is plenty of room to navigate. The worst was Louisville, no way I'd try to get around at that one with a wheelchair.1 point

There is actually wiggle room in the DNC for this. I think we need to keep holding their feet to the fire. For the past 60 years the Gun Control Lobby has gotten every wet dream they ever have had when it comes to erroding either the public's trust with firearms or the 2A itself. If the worn out and recurring statement is, "If it only saved one life." Then why would we not have community outreach or public education on firearm safety?1 point

It will be interesting to see if they come clean with their members. And FWIW, I still hope Letitia gats a raging incurable yeast infection, if she doesn't already have one. Her intentions were nothing but evil.1 point

Not that I'm a huge .380 fan, but there is something to be said for a .380 on your person compared to that 9 or 45 that you left home cuz its kinda big to carry1 point

Alcohol is just another drug that happens to be legal. Kids are told “never do drugs” by the same people who give them their first drink. Its potential for addiction and destructiveness should be respected as much as any other drug, but isn’t.1 point

Saddle soap then neatsfoot oil. lots of patience and no more heat, that's how we make them hard. Use enough water with the saddle soap to allow it to soak in. Then seal it in a ziplock and allow it to soak in. Once it's softened you can use beeswax to help maintain the oil level. It's hide, just like your skin, moisture is good. There are also cream type conditioners that work well, I don't have a recommendation there but any good leather conditioner will help. It's like losing weight, didn't get fat overnight, won't get skinny overnight.1 point

I got 3 of the 16” 357 Rossi levers, great little rifles. I put lighter ejector springs in them, so they don’t throw my brass 10 feet away. Also have a Uberti 1873 357 20” octagon barrel, it’s about too pretty to shoot.1 point

It is called a "cannelure', keeps the bullet from getting pushed back into the case during recoil or other wise. I have a the tool to do the job, http://www.bulletswage.com/hct-1.htm. Works on swaged bullets as well to make a crimp grove for the case mouth to grip to stop set back.1 point
