I don't know that the fact that she was a police officer - or the fact that he was black and she was white ought to really matter here. While they may or may not have been relevant in the shoot, there's really only one thing that matters. She had a gun. There's a guy that's dead from a bullet fired from her gun. She's ultimately responsible for that bullet. There should be an investigation. And the results should likely be made public for transparency's sake. Regardless of what happens in this case, she'll go to sleep every night for the rest of her life knowing that there was an innocent life there and she took it. At least two families were permanently altered this weekend. My prayers are with them all - for there is no peace right now for anyone.

Especially after a 15 hour shift.

I'm going to wait till the entire story is out before making a conclusion but as someone else has already said it looks fishy. I don't think anything fishy is going on now that Texas Rangers have been brought in the investigate the shooting. I only have 1 issue with what I have read so far. Why can't the news media write a headline that reads Police Officer shoots man in his apartment thinking it was her apartment. Why do they have to make sure a race card is played every time. He was a man that got shot while in his own apartment by a police officer that made a mistake thinking it was her apartment. She should not get any special treatment for her mistake. If the guy would have been white would it have made any difference??? Would a white mans family not be hurting right now also. It is a terrible shame it happened at all and the race card is totally in-material. A man lost his life period................JMHO

Shooter did not hold up under questioning. After denying his BB gun could not fly that far and do damage, I offered the opportunity to do another test, right now. He then volunteered he may heard BBs hitting something, did not relate to hitting my house. Had a positive conversation and teaching moment about proper gun handling, offered to loan him a target stand and nicely, calmly said, "don't ever shoot my stuff again." Neighbor again confirmed intent to fix.

It was time for my renewal, so today I went to the DMV and did the lifetime HCP. I understand that at 62 (o god I'M 62?) it probably doesn't "amortize", but I decided the PITA factor made it worth it. Anybody else taken the leap to "lifetime"?

It was too nice to go to work today, so off to the lake I go. I catch a fish, and toss it back thinking it was a stripe. Then another, then another. They don;t look right. I look in my fishing guide and find they are yellow bass. That's a new one on my as far as I can remember. Since there's no limit on them, I began throwing them in the livewell. I ended up with a bunch of them. They are now filleted, and soaking in salt water. Anybody here ever eaten them? I hope they are passable as food. They sure were fun to catch anyway. I also brought back some catfish and large bluegill I only saw one more boat all day. It's gonna be hard to get up and go back to work tomorrow.

I took two boxes of nightcrawlers. I caught them until I ran out of nightcrawlers. We'll have them for supper tomorrow night. Man, the wrather was great today. I wish it would stay like this for a while. I never did get a largemouth to hit anything.

Their good to eat Greg. Yellow bellies are a smaller version of stripe. When you catch 1 or 2 you can probably catch a hundred or more as they are schooling fish and fun to catch. Back when my boys were little I would take them out in the boat, tie each of them on a rooster tail and find a school of them yellow bellies and they would catch fish till they were tired of catchng fish and we would aways bring home a mess for a fish fry.

They are good, I used to fish them quite often. Them and hybrids, taste the same to me, are abundant in the places I used to fish.

Have you ever lived in a big apartment complex? People come and go all the time. It's almost impossible to know everyone, especially people on other floors when you basically only sleep there.

The PD wouldn't help me but since you mentioned it again I thought I'd try the SD. They offer services twice a week. I should have thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Agreed that it was much better being an "accident' rather than "on purpose". Glad you used it as a teaching moment for the kid. Dependent upon the age, if nobody ever taught him any sort of safety, how would he know?

Technically, the .357 Sig round is off the 10mm round. It uses the thicker base of the 10mm case for the pressure.

Theres a lot of good calibers that for some reason just don't make the grade. One that I thought was a good idea is the .41 Action Express. It worked in a gun that could change from 9 mm. Two calibers in the same gun.

It is authorized in just about every division except IDPA CDP (.45 ACP loaded to major) and USPSA Limited (.40 dia or above if shooting major). Major power factor = bullet weight x velocity = 165,000 or more. CDP does not allow anything but .45 because Bill Wilson is a dictator (and Wilson Combat doesn't make a .40) and Limited requires .40 or better to prevent 9mm major. More competitive shooters might use . 357 SIG if it offered any benefits. It doesn't. Many competitive shooters load their ammo and .357 SIG brass is scarce and expensive. Also, loading bottleneck pistol cases can be a hassle. In the competitive world, it can't do anything a .40 can't, and usually won't do it as well. It could do well in USPSA Open, where the guns use frame-mounted red dot sights and comps and is dominated by guns shooting 9mm or .38 Super major ammo, but it would be at a capacity disadvantage. For the competitive world to embrace it, there has to be some benefit.

Of course all the food in the world won't do you any good if you don't kow how to cook it. Sad, but some people couldn't boil water. Know how to use your preps.

The best mechanical can opener I've ever had is a p-38. Have one on my key chain ever since home from Nam. How many weeks, months food supply do you keep in your cupboard? Do you store dry food also or just canned?

They make what sells, that is why they produce the ammo and firearms they do.

I decided to go ahead and renew with the lifetime permit. And I didn't have to wait what seemed like forever when I first applied for my hcp back in 2009. The lifetime permit renewal came in the mail in about a week.

I'm turning 70 and got the lifetime permit this month... call me an optimist.

At my age, every time I renew, I think it is probably a lifetime renewal.

Mine is up in February of next year and I am planning on going lifetime simply for the pain in the ass factor. The less time I have to spend dealing with the folks at the DMV, the better off I life is.
