  5. I like hard cast 158 gr. swc. in both Hp and solid. I've even loaded some 170 gr. swc in .38 cases. I've never tried them to see what kind of penetration they get but, should be good. I've shot some 124 gr. cast RN in 9mm too.

  7. I haven't thinned down like that myself but it seems like I would start at the back of the safe and work towards the front in the event that I needed to. I have a lot of guns that I've never fired and at this point those fill a very small "what if" niche. The majority of those were given to me by my father in law when his mental health deteriorated. I don't feel that it is my place to sell them despite not having a use for most of them. I figure I'll just pass them down to my son eventually. Of course if you aren't selling to find another project, clean them up good, lube them heavy, and stick them in the safe. Let them be someone else's problem once you are gone. Especially if having them makes you happy. Just the musings of a middle aged man

  8. I am excited to announce the Dead Zero "Own The Night" 2-Gun Match is booked for Saturday night, Feb 18th, 2023 at Dead Zero Shooting Park, just south of Spencer, TN. This will be a 2-Gun (rifle/pistol) match with two divisions: NVG Division: allowed ZERO visible light and must use IR or no light at all. White Light Division: allowed any light (or combination of lights) they want. Weaponlights definitely make things easier, but you can shoot the whole match with a handheld or headlamp if you want. Rifle must shoot a rifle round, and pistol must shoot a pistol round. Everything else is allowed as long as it's safe. You will need a safe holster for your pistol. If we have enough NVG folks we'll have a dedicated NVG squad (maybe two!). If not we can mix NVG folks in with the white light shooters and just make everyone go completely dark while the NVG people shoot. 5 stages. Rifle out to 100 yds max. One stage must be shot "Passive" with no additional light (IR or white) allowed. Moving targets. Exploding targets. Running through the woods in the dark while engaging targets. Great challenges and fun! The cost is a little higher than our regular monthly match because I'll have some extra expenses to cover, but it's still stupid-cheap at only $30. 12. Now that’s a plan. I’m 65 in the same situation. But having owned a gun shop I’m in a little deeper and dumber than most. I’m gonna start working this plan. Thanks!

  13. If it kicks hard, sell it. If it's inaccurate, sell it. If it's broken/non-functional, sell it. If it's chambered in a funky cartridge you can't buy or is super expensive, sell it. If you look at it & have no feelings for it one way or another, sell it. That should get you down to guns you like, you can shoot, & you can still enjoy having around.

  15. We tried to run this bill last year, the Rep. from Crockett County (Chris Hurt) had the bill, but the Chairman of the House Civil Justice sub refused to let him run the bill for vote, they told the sponsor he could present it only if he agreed to take it off notice as soon as he did, I asked him to run it and ask for a recorded vote, he refused. Got to play b all with Leadership you understand.

  16. Depends on how much you enjoy dealing with pissed off neighbors. Look at the proposed lot. Pretend you now live in the nearest house, and you are an anti gun Karen type person. How happy would you be to find out a shooting range is coming soon to said property? That’s who you’ll shortly be dealing with.

  17. That was about 70ish yards. It’s a 640 core scope so it has good definition especially when it’s cold out.

  18. While I support the SEC and fully believe it is the best Conference, having TCU win the NC over the reigning champion (who is SEC) would do good things for the NC as a whole. So I’m pulling for TCU.

  19. Nope. Gotta pull for Ga SEC. I did pull for the frogs over Mich tho. Should be a good game .

  21. I’ve always been told you can reasonably expect to handgun hunt deer as far away as you can keep 10 rounds in the small paper plates. For some people that’s 5 yards other people 75 yards.

  22. Here is some video from my pulsar XP50 the other night. I’m a big fan of pulsar optics. Have some buddies with AGM rattlers and Bering hogsters and they are good too. One of my buddies just ordered a pulsar talion and I’m waiting for it to come in so I can check it out. IMG_0288.MOV

  24. A suit is being prepared for the 28th Judicial District with respect to the unconstitutional mandate of denying carry of firearms inparks, greenways and other recreational areas by the State of Tennessee. These type plaintiffs are needed, as we have filled one aspect already: - concealed permit holder - individual who carries under the permitless carry law - individual 18-21 who can and does own firearms, including a handgun, but who is not eligible under the first 2 categories. Plaintiffs would need to be willing to state they would like to be able to carry firearms in these areas with seeking permission from the State as they know it to be their Constitutional Right to do so under the 2nd and 14th Amendments. This appears to be the easiest State issue to adjudicate and will be the predecessor for many actions to come. Please if anyone who qualifies, or know anyone who does, contact me as soon as possible.

  26. I have a Mossberg 500a pistol grip only Cruiser in 12 ga that ain’t exactly fun to shoot, lol, so when I decided to get one if the smaller shotguns I went for the Shockwave in 20 ga. I’ve read much about the trade off between 20 and 12 ga as regards perceived recoil and effectiveness at close ranges, so this affected my decision. I’ve only fired it a few times, but I don’t regret my decision. Only thing I ‘might’ have done differently is go with a semi auto variant.

  27. If you want to learn more about Frank Hamer, I highly suggest his biography "Texas Ranger" by John Boessenecker. The man led a very interesting life.

  31. Texas Rangers circa 1907, that's Frank Hamer on the top left with his 1894 Winchester. Along with police officers from Louisiana and Texas, Hamer was the man that brought down Bonnie & Clyde. The man sitting bottom right with the Luger is John H. Rogers, the man that hired Hamer into the Rangers. Hamer used a Remington model 8 chambered in .35 Remington in the roadside ambush of Bonnie & Clyde.

  32. Speaking of Chattanooga. I was just transported from Nashville to CHI Memorial last night. I had a minor stroke Thursday night and the ER that I went to doesn't have a neurologist on staff. No hospitals in Middle Tennessee with a neurologist on staff had any beds to take me. Waited 24 hours and finally got a 3-hour ambulance ride down to Chatanoo. Happy New Year's. Glad to be alive. Are you able to see the thread on the AKFiles?

  35. The enhanced carry permit needs to actually be enhanced so that you can legally carry in more places. The 'no guns' signs weapons crime should not apply to the enhanced carry permit. That should only be a trespass issue if someone does not leave when asked just as it is in most states. Full college carry should also be legalized for enhanced permits. College employees can already carry with enhanced permits in TN plus most of the states bordering TN already have legal college carry for people with carry permits.
