Sorry Mike but there is something wrong with that. If they don't like the pay rate, benefits, hours, etc, move on. Free country. Unions suck companies dry, decrease productivity and lower quality. Period. If any worker has a serious issue of safety or other non money grab issue, there are any number of attorneys or state and fed agencies ready to swoop in and protect them. Their time has passed.6 points

They can strike if they want. Walmart can fire them if they want. No shortage of people who need a paycheck in this country. For some reason all of a sudden Americans are blaming their employers for why they aren't getting paid as much as a skilled trade or educated person while not identifying they are neither. Want to get paid as much as a doctor? Go be a damn doctor. Seesh. What a bunch of ungrateful leeches. I hope they all get fired.5 points

Well we could all write the President and ask him to come up with a plan..........wait..... But seriously, yeah, this is not looking good. Not surprisingly, on Facebook, news pages, all of the Obama voters that always have something "smart" to say when talking about him sucking, food stamps, Obama phones, Trayvon Martin....they don't have a thing to say. Because they know $#(&($# about what the President is SUPPOSED to be doing, only what he supports for THEM. I mean, they have said jack squat about Syria!3 points

Major Kong was the Slim Pickens character in the movie Dr Strangelove. I like the movie and grew up in the Cold War era. I've used it on several forums for the past five or six years.3 points

I can't honestly answer this. She monitors my online communications. However, I will admit, and not because I am at gunpoint, or that my life is in danger; that my life is better with her in it.2 points

I think my favorite one was last year when the school sent me a letter telling me that if I wanted my daughter to be insured at the school, I had to pay the premium. However, if she was on free or reduced lunch, they would waive that fee. If I wanted her to play sports, I had to pay that premium as well, unless of course, she was on free or reduced lunch. I have lost count of the crap she has brought home where they want money from me. I am a member of the PTA/PTO and it is a joke. The meetings are a bunch of folks standing around patting one another on the back. The 'big' thing last year was spending $2000 to get the 'premium' status of a government funded online program. The one last week was good, a fund raiser, with that magazine that has the tins of cookies and the smoked meats. There wasn't a thing in there for less than $20. But hey, if the kid sells 20 items, she gets to go to a special all day party at the school. That resulted in a nasty email to the Superintendent. As a tax paying, attentive parent, the schools make me sick, but something we need to understand is that we are the minority now. We are getting the government we deserve with the majority vote now. That is what makes me the sickest. I am a taxpaying voter. The majority now isn't.2 points

C'mon, think Walmart style -- they'll be happy to take their welfare money as customers. - OS2 points

Wanted to add that the school my daughter attends has 85% plus of the students on free and reduced lunch with all school fees waived. I pay cash. Sorry for being off topic but this is just another reason I despise the school system amd welfare systems. sent barefoot from the hills of Tennessee2 points

My thought is that rather than try to change opinion, the idea is to get your point across. Then, at some point in the future, as happened for me, it can all come together and the opinion changes anyway. A big part of the problem with modern politics is that people refuse to see each others points. A disagreement about the conclusion is thought to invalidate the whole of the other persons argument, leading to an inability to break things down point-by-point and no way to find common ground. I think your summary focuses on the salient point though there are others. Let's break it down some: 1)Are DUI checkpoints "right" in general? I think we can agree to disagree here (If everyone saw things my way, the constitution would not be needed). Some people will think that it's worth inconveniencing a few to keep these drunk drivers off the road. Personally, I'm not real happy with citizens stopping other citizens without direct cause. One thing I love about the US was it was founded as a nation of equals. This kind of thing goes against that and releases undue power to the government. Recheck those Peelian Principles I posted earlier. Also playing into this is that the statistics that lend support (or not) to this seems to have some issues. This is where MADD is a problem because their hysteria tends to preclude a rational discussion of the topic. 2)Is it constitutional? Calls to authority aside, this seems to rest on your definition of "unreasonable". I guess if you feel it's OK for citizens acting under authority of the government to stop and interrogate other citizens going about their lawful business because they /might/ be committing a crime, you could find that acceptable. Hard to see why they bothered with the 4th if that's the case though. 2b)Implied consent. The government does not get to write laws (ignoring the fact that they do so) weaseling their way out of the constitution. Not legal ones anyway. If you can't see where such things lead, there's not much hope for you. 3)DUI. I don't think there's many here that think DUI shouldn't be prosecuted as such but it is an argument that I have heard before. For the purposes of this thread can we stipulate that driving under the influence is a crime that deserves punishment according to the laws currently on the books (BAC levels and such are for another discussion)?2 points

Speed is going to be of the absolute essence in a scenario like this. By the time you get to day 2, it's going to be too late to start moving distance of any consequence. Were it to head south, you need to go, and go fast. I'd cover what ground I could in the car as fast as I possibly could and then look to moving to a bike or something similar - fold up bike or electric razor scooter in the trunk. Were it me, I'd look to stay off the major arterials and cover what ground I could by car quickly, but when that's no longer feasible, move to an alternative. My kids have a scooter that I've tried for endurance - 19 miles. That should get you close enough that you can cover the rest on foot. But, this gets your commute time to hours as opposed to days (never).2 points

I have no issue with private sector unions. If they think it will work for them, they should have at it. They might run into a slight problem though. Striking work forces work best when in the context of skilled labor. Walmart is NOT skilled labor. If the entire store labor force struck, they could have new employees in place and the stores running as before in a couple weeks if not days. This is one of the major contributing factors to the almost total lack of unions in retail.2 points

My initials. Clever, huh? Oh, well, at least my name isn't Sherman Herman Isaac Taylor. That would make for some interesting initials (my dad's first name was 'Sherman' and my mom used to call him Sherman Herman Isaac Taylor as a joke.)2 points

I joined TGO shortly after I had my son. I wasn't used to being cooped up in the house caring for a baby since my "thing" had always been hunting and shooting and being out in the woods. I absolutely loved being a mom, but still wanted to at least talk about my other loves, so I found this forum. I had been carrying a gun for over 20 years and having a child wasn't going to change that, so "PackinMama" just seemed appropriate. ;)2 points

I am a huge fan of th blaxploitation films of the 70's especially those with Rudy Ray Moore like Dolomite. Even the names of the films can be quit entertaining: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_blaxploitation_films Here is a short film in the same style as most of the blaxploitation films. http://youtu.be/yax7bXcykzk And for anyone who has and hour and a half to kill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1JkNKL1BwE Can you dig it?2 points

Negative. I don't think the gov should have any right to search me before going on an airplane. I had no problem when airport security was private, as airlines are private. If a private entity wants to search me before entering their establishment that is their call to make. The government doing it is called a violation of my rights.2 points

I am still in a daze. I just went to the LGS and bought my wife a new Glock 19 gen 4. Now we have a plastic gun that will be her new carry gun after we put a few rounds through it. After I got home, cleaned, put on night sights and loaded the magazines. I had to take out all of my 1911's and fondle them. I am feeling much better now. :) All kidding aside it feels real good in my hands without adding any of the back straps. Just hope she likes it or maybe not, if you know what I mean ;)1 point

Maybe one of our elected dummies will step in like the did when China tried to buy one of our largest pork producers about 2 months ago and the feds blocked the sale. Maybe they will step up and block the import of the chicken also. I mean they have to realize they also eat the same foods and so does their families.........JMHO1 point

My situation is similar to yours in that I live in a rural location but I work in a more metropolitan one - although I am closer to home than you as home is about 30 miles or so from work. Luckily for me, my job is right at the edge of the city of Knoxville (definitely Knox County but I'm not entirely sure we are actually in Knoxville or if we are just barely outside of Knoxville) so I am not 'trapped' in the downtown area. It is the western edge where there is often a lot of traffic, though. Again, luckily, Knoxville hasn't entirely eaten up the 'outskirts', yet and coming out of the complex where the building I work in is located, I only have to travel about fifty feet on a busy road before I can turn off and take back roads/country roads pretty much all the way home. Honestly, if I got enough of a 'jump' on the situation, I believe I could drive home. The big 'choke point' for me is that getting home requires crossing the Tennessee River on one bridge or another no matter what route I take. By the time I get that far, though, the traffic on the bridge along the non-Interstate route will hopefully be manageable - although it will still be a PITA. My main concern is that, because I work on a satellite campus for a private college and because even having firearms in our vehicles is against the employee policies, I wouldn't be all that well equipped for a situation that required shooting my way out of trouble or where I ended up needing to take small game for food, etc. Hopefully, though, I could just haul butt home in the vehicle or at least get close enough that the emergency food supplies I'd have with me would be enough to walk the rest of the way home. Either way, I'd want to get home as quickly as possible so I could bug in and get ready to yell at all the folks who THINK they are just going to grab a bag and bug out to a rural area to get the hell out of my yard.1 point

There aren't many things in this world as good as fresh honey. I've lived off peanut butter and honey sandwiches since I was in elementary school. When I got in high school I started pouring the honey on a piece of bread buy itself and let it sit for a couple of minutes while making the rest of my sandwiches. This would let the honey sink into the bread and would end up kinda crunchy like I was eating a peanut butter and honeycomb sandwich! Mmmmmmmm!!!!1 point
