TODAY'S LESSONS IN IRONY We are told not to judge all Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics. But on the other hand, we are also encouraged to judge all gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. How is that supposed to work? Meanwhile, The National Park Service, administered by the U.S Department of the Interior, asks us "Please do not feed the animals." Their stated policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves. Thus ends today's irony lesson.7 points

It's still going to be a little while, yet. Uppers are still being machined. Per the last update I got from Jeff, they plan to ship them out to be anodized on the 18th. With the holiday, they hope to have them back and start shipping them out by the 10th of December. So, assuming everything proceeds as planned, we should have no problem with having these in folks hands in time for Christmas - just like we originally hoped.3 points

I think one of the other concerns they have is with people bringing snakes into the state that are not native( seen on tv where they even went to Texas to get snakes) ( that might have been a show they filmed in KY tho )and bringing in diseases that are not here yet.. From 2 diff sites The State Code in Tennessee, section 39-17-101, makes it an offense "for a person to display, exhibit, handle, or use a poisonous or dangerous snake or reptile in such manner as to endanger the life or health of any person." It doesn’t mention religious gatherings; a tourist-trap snake show along the interstate could just as well violate this statute. A case in the Tennessee state supreme court in 1975, Swann v. Pack , (527 S.W.2d 99), concerned a Holiness Church in which snake handling occurred. The court examined the matter from the common law point of view, that is, they weren't enforcing any particular statute but were actually deciding if the court had justification to shut down Rev. Pack's church. In sending the case back to the lower court, the supreme court instructed the lower court judge to: "enter an injunction perpetually enjoining and restraining all parties respondent from handling, displaying or exhibiting dangerous and poisonous snakes or from consuming strychnine or any other poisonous substances, within the confines of the State of Tennessee."2 points

I saw 10 does, a button buck, and a 5 pointer. I took the 5 pointer just to get a little summer sausage made. It should be good meat, he was probably only a year and half old, but not a bad body. I was just sitting on the ground next to a large rock and had 7 of the does come within 25-30 yds. They were active. 2 of them probably played for 30 minutes in the field below me just running around having a good time. Glad to have the deer dropped off at the processor and everything cleaned up though. My little guy:2 points

We know some of the involved parties in this one (...thankfully, from a far off... no visits to our home or to theirs...)... The thought is that the recent National Geographic TV segment on this ole boy provided the "evidence" for the charges... This one will be great to watch... The real sad truth of this story is that it "....will give great opportunity for the haters of God to blaspheme Him..." and paint Christianity as something it simply is not... This stuff, is at best, misguided ignorance; and at worst, a trip down the lane of sensationalism and nuttiness for imagined fame a few dollars... My vote is for the latter.... It would appear to me that "snake handling" religious observances could, in fact, be self-limiting... If i wuz a committed Darwinist, i would say, let "natural selection" and "survival of the fittist" take it's course here... I cant wait for what's next here.... leroy2 points

The National Institute of Justice is hosting a talk by Dr. Randolph Roth a professor at Ohio State University. The title of the talk is, "Why is the United States the Most Homicidal Nation in the Affluent World?" Keep in mind, this talk is being sponsored by the National Institute of Justice, a subordinate organization in the US Department of Justice. They have invited a speaker to present research saying that gun ownership is not correlated with homicide rates. Here is the description of the talk: As I have tried to tell gun owners multiple times in the past, more and more scholars are publishing papers that are acknowledging this reality and the US government is taking notice. I'm not posting this as a statement saying we should not be vigilant about protecting our 2nd Amendment rights; I am doing it as a reminder that folks can probably come down from DEFCON 1, other folks can loosen up their tinfoil hats a bit, and stop engaging in the constant barrage of belligerent rhetoric that alienates potential allies in the Second Amendment fight. Another point to make note of is that other factors that many "conservatives" cite to explain homicide rates are not correlates either. So while all of the "conservatives" out there demand harsher punishments including longer prison terms, abolition of drugs, and more cops, they are hurting the cause of liberty as much as gun-control advocates and are likely making other social problems worse.1 point

That is why I am thankful for grace. No amount of arguing convinced me that God is the creator of the universe and His Son Jesus restored my relationship with Him through His death on the cross, resurrection resulting in the empty tomb, and the promise of His eventual return. It was purely through God reaching down and intervening in my life and opening my mind and heart to who He is that I am now a Christian. I wasn't born a Christian and do not have Christian parents. I have had many debates with friends who used to be skeptics in the past, even staunch atheists, and yet we can all attest that nobody argued us into faith. Sure I understand "science" (quotation marks because many treat science as some type of nebulous entity almost like a deity in and of itself) and work in health care. I've studied and seen many things that modern "science" cannot explain. God is the author of science. We humans merely discovered natural phenomena and apply our best efforts to study and explain that which we do not understand. At the end of the day who CARES how old the earth is? Let me say that it is not going to make or break anyone's faith in God or in anything else. I pray that Oh Shoot and anyone else with his same mentality will one day receive the knowledge and love of Jesus. People say that Christians are haters, and that may be true for some Christians. But our message is one of peace, love, and reconciliation. Non-Christians can hate us all they want, kill us all they want, and discriminate against us all they want. But guess what? We will continue to share the love we have received anyways.1 point

This talk of impeachment, arrest, etc, etc sounds like another trick filled with smoke and mirrors to distract and divert our attention. From what, Bengahzi, the ACA...? Who knows. If proceedings were ever held, it would be an utter waste of time, resources and more importantly money, especially when the POTUS can wipe it away with a swipe. Heck, the effort and brainpower used by the posters in this thread is probably more energy that this issue will ever see. Another reason why this won't see the light of day is because a lot of the Congressional members have dirt (not necessarily criminal) on their hands and the last thing they want is some type of retaliation against them or another member in the party in the future. Is that right, of course not but is it gangster political reality, absolutely!! With all the talk of how NSA is doing this, that or another thing, all it would take is an NSA "hero" /"leaker" to drop a few personal emails, voice mails, etc on someone they politically disagree with and bam, here we go again. They should be working on a budget, period, and stop being distracted like elementary school kids who have ADHD. From my GSIII using TPR1 point

I have a Cattleman replica from Uberti it does not say Cattleman on it, it surely was not built in Germany. Uberti is an Italian company. My 58 Remmy (.44) replica is an Uberti and it is a nice pistol. I also bought the .45 Colt conversion cylinder for it. Make sure of you do this to only shoot cowboy loads through it, it is not rated for full centerfire loads. Fit and finish is 8 out of 10. It certainly does not compare to a Ruger Vaquero. But it is good stuff for a 250 dollar pistol. The conversion costs about as much. I don't know that I'd ever sell it. Replacement parts are readily available if needed. Dang I need to shoot it, nothing like the stank of black powder.1 point

I haven't seen anything the 308 Winchester doesn't do very well. I also like the smaller case as opposed to '06 length cases for cast bullets. I've tried a lot of things and just keep coming back to the 308. I don't have the opportunity or ability to get past a couple hundred yards or so; So anything more is a waste of materials for me. If the world falls to peices, we always talk of ARs and such, and do love mine, but the rifle I'll have with me to the end is going to be a bolt action in 308. I can put food on the table with it. With the array of loads I've developed, I can hunt just about anything. I've been working on a 100g cast plain base round nose running around 900 fps. Squirrels and rabbits beware. A 170g GCRN cast bullet at just over 2K will put down any deer, and a 180g partition will drop even the most stubborn of larger critters. Not that I expect to run into any.1 point
