  2. If you ask me one big reason is there are just too many shows now.  It's gotten out of hand.  Knoxville averages at least one show per month.   When I was a kid there were like 2 shows a year (in Memphis) and they were mighty good shows.

  3.   OR...   And I'm just throwing this out there because we all know that every cop in the world is a jack-booted thug who beats citizens with a rubber hose and eats babies, but in a hypothetical world where cops were people too, the Sgt. in question maybe wanted to know for his own personal sake for his own personal firearms collection which may or may not include an AR15 pistol.

  5. I was going to a Mom and Pop restaurant for many years and it was never posted. Then all at once I go there and it is posted. I spoke to the manager and he said that a few of his customers were complaining about seeing customers with guns and it was alarming to them because of their children. I said well I have been eating here for about 10 years and no one has ever seen my gun. He asked me what he could do to keep his business and not lose any customers so I offered him and option. I recommended posting his business as a Concealed Carry only restaurant and see how well that works. Next time I went there the sign read Concealed Carry Only. The place was packed with customers no one knew who was armed and who was not. The manager stopped by my table just after the waitress put my ticket on my table and he picked it up and thanked me as he has been seeing as increase in his business since re-posting and he liked my idea. I think if managers are willing to listen to other alternatives than just posting No Guns it can help both the HCP people and the businesses...........jmho

  6. If I'm reasonably well dressed and out eating I've started politely asking managers at places that are currently posted if they would like to change their mind to win a customer and get added to the "posted!" app as a non-posted alternative. I've had one business owner get angry b/c someone else had apparently stickered his business without asking him and one manager that removed the gunbuster while I stood there.(and it has stayed down) I've found that if they see the app and realize how easy it is for me to find a gun friendly alternative on the handy map and dine elsewhere(across the parking lot in some cases) that all of a sudden they don't so much like being on the list of restaurants I won't patronize. I've also talked to several that won't budge but I'm always very respectful of their opinions and thank them for taking the time to speak to a potential customer.

  9. Worth a look see, this one is scheduled for floor vote in the Senate next week, s/c Finance, Ways and Means in House. Looking at the Amendment which makes the bill, DO NOT be fooled by the names on the Amendments, Kelsey and Lundberg DID NOT write them, we are looking at "flow" which means that the GA is trying to get into pick-pocket mode, and any one can add an amendment, had they been timely filed, they would have gone to the committees chaired by the names on the Amendment.   Bill summary:   http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/billinfo/BillSummaryArchive.aspx?BillNumber=SB2424&ga=108   Amendment:   http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Amend/SA1043.pdf Redo on the Fiscal Note: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Fiscal/SB2424.pdf   Word is, there is a fair chance this could pass in the Senate, does not cure all, but is for sure a step in the right direction.   Tune those phones up, if nothing else, we need to support Sen. Kelsey's fine work...(sarcasm off)

  10. My question is how many folks have been awakened in the middle of the night and needed to call the police and what was the response you received? Not on something personal but maybe an intruder call or something of that nature? I had something happen several years back that later on I found it rather amusing. This was my 1 and only experience.   Had an incident about 5 years ago and didn't really give it much thought till recently.  Had a few Immigrants try to help themselves to some high end fishing rods off deck of my bass boat in my carport about 2AM one night. They might have gotten away with it but my guard dog was on duty and asleep under the boat. I could tell her to guard the boat and she would sleep under it in summertime. Shes not really a barker as much as a reaction type guard dog and bites first and then barks. She took a large chunk of meat out of the lower calf of one of latinos and he set into screaming and I cleared the door with flashlight and cell in one had and Bersa in the other and his buddy had taken off as I exited the door and only got a glimpse of him . The idiot thought he was going to punch Kasey but he found out that didn't work cause she got hold of 3 of his fingers and took 2 off at the first knuckle. (Her daddy was Chow and her Momma was Black Mouth Kerr so her jaws are like a vice.) Then the guy jumps up in my boat to get away from her and he bleeding like a stuck pig all over my boat carpets and screaming something in Spanish at Kasey. I had the carport lights on by then and I yelled at him to shut the hell up because the dog does not understand Spanish. I get on my cell phone and called the police @ 911. This is where it got really interesting. Now it's a Wednesday night  in this town and the dispatcher ask me what was my emergency and I told her I needed a squad car and an ambulance. She said it's going to be about 20 minutes because they are pretty busy right now. I politely told her that was fine. I would just shoot the guy a few times and when they got a chance they could stop by and unload him out of my boat. She said you can't do that and I told her to stay on the line so she could hear the shots and she said they were on the way right now and I should have help in a few minutes. I said Thank You. It was about 1 minute before I heard sirens coming from about 3 different directions. Inside of about about 4 minutes I had all kinds of help. I told one of the officers that his buddy was hiding behind a garden shed in my neighbors yard. He said he would request a  k-9. I was looking at Kasey and she had her run cable stretched out tight towards the neighbors shed with both her ears stood straight up. She knew he was there. I told the officer to get a buddy and just wait right there and I unhooked Kasey. She went around that building and here the guy comes running wide open, screaming towards the police officers. He is lucky he didn't get shot because both officers had their guns out with Kasey hot on his heels. I grabbed her and they grabbed him. After a little questioning come to find out they worked for the lawn service that cut my neighbors yard. The were illegal and so was every employee the guy had on his payroll but himself. They arrested him and took all of his equipment and shipped the other guys off to ICE for processing.  What I found so amusing after I thought about it was I have lived in this town for many years and I have never seen the police busy on a Wednesday night at 2AM except that night and it was funny that when I said I will just shoot the guy she had a better idea real quick and the Calvary was on the way. I also had to laugh at one of the police officers when he said we need that dog working for us and his partner laughed and agreed. I was just wondering if anyone else has had an experience with the police in the middle of the night and what kind of response you got from the 911 operator. Oh yea, It cost my boat insurance company over $700.00 to re carpet my boat after they paid a company to try and wash out the stains.

  19. I really liked after the price of gas went up high the first time and everyone was complaining about all the money the oil companies were making. The oil companies would run commercials about how they were using all the recent huge profits to research ways to conserve fuel and for alternative sources.

  21. Do You Guys Really Think That The Corporations Care What You Pay FOR GAS? IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO IS IN OFFICE OR THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE. FUEL PRICES WILL NEVER BE LOW AGAIN, BECAUSE JUST LIKE GUN AND AMMO PRICES, THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS SHOWN THAT IT CAN ABSORB CONSTANT MINIMAL INCREASES EVEN WHILE WE COMPLAIN ABOUT SAID INCREASES. USING THE STRATEGIC RESERVES IS JUST AN ELECTION YEAR PACIFIER. JMO

"Energy prices will necessarily skyrocket" http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/25/obama-admitted-energy-prices-would-skyrocket-under-his-policies/?onswipe_redirect=no I think the fuel prices are a combination of our weak dollar, govt intrusion with what's in the gas blend and a general they don't give a hoot what we pay. Stand by though for electricity prices this year!

  26.   Once, again...     So I fail to see how finally being 'rid' of Bredesen in exchange for Haslam helped us.  As I said, I don't care what 'team' they play for nor do I care what kind of campaign promises they spout.  I care about results and the results are that (iirc) Bredesen signed off on 'Castle Doctrine' based laws, didn't block state park carry and got over-ridden on 'guns where alcohol is served' while Haslam has been unsupportive of even removing knife restrictions and has supported opposition to state preemption on park carry all while the Republican leadership gutted and neutered the parking lot bill last year.  Further, there is little chance that a Republican supermajority would over-ride a Republican governor if he vetoes state preemption of park carry or any of the other bills.  So, why am I supposed to believe that we are better off with the Republicans in charge?   As for the Tea Party, it might have had potential as a force for individual rights when it first started.  Now, I fear, it has been infiltrated by the modern Republican (aka Big Business is God, screw everybody else) Party, RINO apologists and 'progressive' Republicans to the point that it really doesn't mean much of anything.   Oh, and there is another reason I think we might have been better of with 'the other guy'.  If we had a Dem as Governor then the Republican supermajority/house and senate leadership would have someone to fight against.  They would want to push things like gun bills so that, if he vetoed them, they could over-ride him.  It would be more political maneuvering and trying to cast him as a lame duck than any, real desire to expand our rights but if the end result were expanded rights then I would be okay with that.  As it is, the senate and house Republicans wouldn't want to rock the boat for a Republican governor so we get table scraps, at best.  I don't think it is ever a good thing when one party controls both of the legislative branches as well as the Governor's office (or the White House and federal legislative branches, for that matter.)

  30. Last year was the first year I took my return and bought something nice. This year, and every year before, it goes into an account, just like it otherwise would if the IRS hadnt stole it. I agree, taxes shouldn't be taken out of one's paycheck. All Americans should have to write a check for what they owe at the end of the year. Things sure would change in regard to all these well intentioned bleeding hearts. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  34. Go there in person at least one hour before he closes, without him expecting you. Ask to see your lower, to confirm he does have it. Wait around a while to see if he is selling other guns and calling them in. If he says the website is down tell him to use the phone to call it in. Let him know you aren't leaving without it. If he cannot produce your lower and you have proof that he received it, if he refuses to complete the transfer via web or phone, or otherwise makes any excuses... tell him you are going to call the local TBI, BATF, and BBB offices to file complaints. Have those numbers with you and call from his place of business if needed. Make sure you have your purchase receipt, proof of shipment being received by him, and your TN state ID with you. And take your cell phone and use it to record your entire visit so you will have audio evidence if needed.

  35.   I have a bottle of bright red nail polish that I painted a couple of front sights with, I painted the front sight of my SP101 3 years ago with it, I carry it most all of the time and it's been holstered and un-holstered countless times and has never faded or chiped. Looks like the day I painted it. On my 91/30 Mosin that shot high I raised the front sight by putting and heating a peice of small diameter heat shrink a mil taller than the sight, I filled in the cavity of the heat shrink tubing with the red nail polish. It's very visable and strong to my surprise. Nowadays I guess you can get just about any color of nail polish.   BTW, why do they call it "polish" when it's actually nail paint?

  36. Please understand, I am not singing the reseller's song. But...there is a flip side to that coin. Case in point...I went to a local Wal-Mart at around 5 PM tonight. Didn't know if there was any .22s coming in or not. But... I did know one thing...if I didn't take the time to be there when they came out, if there was any, I would not get any.   I was number one in line, and knew if there was any coming in, I'd have a shot at them. I have a bad back, and my lower back was killing me...plus, I'm one of the old geezers some of the people on here ridicule. Again, understand, I do not resell my ammo, I shoot it. At about 7:20 a well dressed man came by and I had seen him there before. He asked me if I'd sell him a box, so his grandson could go to the range and shoot his gun that he got for Christmas. I think I remember him saying that once before...at least once, maybe more. Anyway, I told him I had been waiting there since before 5 PM, and that after waiting all that time, I did not sell any of the ammo I was lucky enough to get. He even offered me $50 for a box, and I declined the offer.   Had he joined the line at that time, he would have been number four. We said they'll know for sure, and have the ammo out in a little over an hour from now. He walked off, like he was too important, or too impatient, to wait for 45 minutes to an hour. Turns out, a lot of .22LR ammo came in...at least a case of Federal 550 Value Packs, a case of Remington 225 round packs, and possibly more. By this time there were a number of people in the waiting line. Had "Mr. Impatient" taken his number four spot in line, he would have gotten at least one Federal 550 Value Pack, and two Remington 225 round boxes...or possibly two Federal 330 round boxes...for a total of at least 1050 rounds of .22LR! I wonder if he'll be on here bashing the "hoarders and resellers" tomorrow?   Folks, the bottom line is this...if you want .22LR ammo, you "can" get it. No way, are you going to walk up to the counter and say I'll take three boxes of the Federal 550 round Value Pack, and get it. Maybe sometimes, but not very often. Nor can you show up at Wal-Mart at 8:15 PM, and expect to get any .22LR that they will put out at 8:30 PM. It works like anything else with a limited supply... concert tickets come to mind, or Titans home game tickets...if you want it bad enough, be prepared to spend some time waiting in line...or buy it at the gun shows, at their price.   Like I said, I'm not defending the resellers ( again... I do not resell mine), any more than I'd defend ticket scalpers at the concert or football game. But consider there are only two ways to get those tickets...wait in line, or pay the price. I'm just saying. Good luck on getting tickets to the next big concert, or Titan's game.

  39.   Yes.  At least then people who truly believe in a more right-leaning position could hopefully be motivated to replace him in the next election.  As it is, we have a left-wing RINO and, because he plays under the Republican name (which is more important to those who think that political elections equal the Superbowl as in actual policies and beliefs don't matter as long as your 'team' wins) there will be no, real impetus to move away from him or his brand of bait and switch, "Talk out of the right side of my mouth but work with my left hand," bull crap.   Besides, I will say, again - we saw more advances in laws regarding self defense and carry rights under a New Jersey Democrat governor (Bredesen) with unapologetically anti-gun Naifeh as Speaker of the House than we have seen under the "good Republican" triumvirate of Haslam, Harwell and Ramsey.  The Republicans rallied support in the last, few elections with the cry of, "Oh, my God!  The other side wants your guns and your only hope is to vote for us!  We will support and expand your rights!"  Well, no two ways about it, they lied.  The three of them even keep saying that they don't even want to deal with any such legislation.

Seriously though, I do enjoy the show. My wife, however, is just plain bonkers over it. She has asked and complained about the "long" wait for the show to return. Asked me the other day when she could buy season 4. This woman is hardcore.

  43. I'm hooked and so is my wife.  Really, once you're married you can't get into a show that your spouse isn't into, so I'm glad she brought this one to my attention.  We Netflix it when a new season is released on Blu Ray since I travel so much that we'd never be able to follow a season in real time.  It's a lot easier just to rent it, then main line a season over the course of a couple weeks.   And as for characters, favorite one is Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryan.  She has undergone the most development as a character from what she was to what she is.  It makes her the most interesting character, to me.  And boobies.  Boobies are certainly a plus.   We haven't done Season 3 yet, but will start it next month.  Hopefully I didn't make a mistake by posting in this thread like I did with the Walking Dead thread.... spoilers showing up in the feed on Tapatalk that can't be unseen.
