1. Ive had some down time with work this week so yesterday I hammered out this ol' boy. 10.5" blade, hidden tang, spalted maple handle, file guard, band sawblade end cap with copper rivet accent. This knife was built as a fighter, not a camp knife. Super light and fast in the hand, razor sharp and should hold a great edge. Steel is a 1095 Nicholson file, edge quenched then had a triple temper at 400 degrees. Ill post updated pictures when I finish it on out. The purple around the hilt is painters tapes I havent removed yet. The yellow is the the tempering colors. Itll have a sand blasted finish at the end, with tong oiled handle.

 2. The camo one, most of y'all have seen in my paint thread. The other two I just finished. The TGO lower I bought already assembled from a member here, and the Spike's Tactical I put together (my first one ever). One upper is a PSA and the other is a Radical Firearms upper, both with free float handguards. I can't claim to have completely built these since the barrels were on the uppers that I bought, but I am still wanting to do one complete from scratch just to say I did. Anyway, here they are. Here are some closer pics at the RF upper.

 4. After about a 10 month search we closed on some property yesterday. It has most of the items on the list and was only a little more than I'd hoped to pay so we pulled the trigger.   I really didn't know it was going to be so hard to find dirt.   Then, since it is apparently an affront to any red blooded American male to not have one, I picked up a shiny new orange tractor as well. It is currently sitting on the trailer in my driveway. My first major task will be to survive backing it off the trailer. From my years in jeeping I became fairly adept at rolling 4wd vehicles but I really don't want to roll this one.   Many thanks to all that have answered land and tractor questions over the last few months. It was nice getting info from local folks with real world experience.   Mark

 8. Oh Boy!   A rare opportunity to combine two of my favorite topics: The Second Amendment, and Taylor Swift, Princess of Nashville.   Taylor Swift in NYC's Central Park being interviewed by a reporter for Rolling Stone magazine. The reporter is wearing a camo hat with the Gonzales "Come and Take It" Flag.   http://tswiftdaily.com/image/92751820171   [edit] And here's a better picture, where the Gonzales "Come and Take It" Flag is not obscured . . .   http://tswiftdaily.com/image/92795543881     Of course, Taylor's midriff-baring camo-shaded skirt and top are worth a look as well . . .

 9. I broke the punch off of my Leatherman MUT last week so I sent it in for repair. They received it yesterday, fixed it, and are sending it back to me TODAY. Unbelievable. For comparison, I sent my M&P Shield in for service and waited over a month to get it back. If you're deciding between a Leatherman and another brand and you value solid customer service, I can not recommend Leatherman strongly enough.

 10. Dad was given an old leatherman with broken pliers.  It belonged to his brother-in-law who passed away several years ago.  He sent it back for repair and they sent him a new one since they don't make that model anymore.

 12.     Make darn sure your jars and lids are clean and sanitized.  I suggest you do the canning (pressure or water bath) outside (grill, turkey fryer, fire pit, etc.).  A great big pot of boiling water on the stove for a couple hours will have your AC working hard to keep up this time of year, and if you have an "oops", it's easier to clean up.    http://www.motherearthnews.com/real-food/water-bath-pressure-canning-zecz11zsmi.aspx#axzz38NwhqHoM

 14. While we have known for some time that Beretta is opening up a new factory in Gallatin to complement their Maryland operation today it was announced that ALL manufacturing is moving to Tennessee.   That's huge.   http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/07/22/major-gun-manufacturer-taking-45-million-investment-300-jobs-to-tennessee-over-fear-of-gun-control/   http://www.beretta.com/en-us/gallatin/#.U86085EIrnY.twitter

 15. I'm just celebrating my latest stamp arrivals. I finally completed the lower right AR with SBR stamp and specwar 5.56. I thought I would share a pic (should have chosen a lighter background.) I'm no photographer but I'll get some better pics later on.

 18.   She's also considered 'country' music, but that ship is so far gone it's sailed, docked in another port to resupply, and sailed away again.   There's nothing left of country music in Nashville other than a sold- out hall of fame and an Opry that just wants to book the latest flash in the pan 'thump and bump' outfit with a song about a truck. Country music packed it's bags and moved to Texas a long, long time ago.    Don't believe me? Okay. Is Hank Williams a member of the Grand Ole Opry?    Is Darius Rucker?  :surrender:   "They all say not guilty, but the evidence will show... Murder's been committed, down on Music Row..."

 19. TGO, if Taylor Swift is considered "hot", "desirable", or any variation thereof...we need to have a serious discussion on what those words should really mean.

 20.   Real country music is only played on classic retro channels now, what the write, sing, play now is some kind of generic pop they claim is country. It is not, they need to call it by a different name.

 24. 90% of the people who hang out on here regularly have my number so if there are any problems that need addressed immediately feel free to call me 8am-10pm. If I don't answer it is because I am taking a nap, like most old guys do. And if anyone wants my number I have no problems giving out to anyone that asks for it because I enjoy talking to people about guns, cars or life. But PLEASE if you do call do not call late at night, let it ring long enough to wake up the wife and then hang up.   With that being said the members moderate themselves pretty well here so my life as a moderator consists of acting like any other member 99.9% of the time. When we do get a turd they are told to cool it long before most moderators can deal with it.   It is pretty easy taking care of a board where everyone is mature. This is not your typical male oriented board. I cannot think of another board, where the majority of the members are male, that doesn't have constant drama about who has the biggest pecker. Car boards, gun boards, heck any topic where there are men involved tends to be full of testosterone filled banter. Maybe that is why this place is so calm, most of our members are probably so old they have no testosterone left.   I do like being here and I would be here even if I wasn't a moderator because we are all like minded and mature, well most of us, so it is like spending time with a long time friend.

 26. "It's all about public safety"   BS. It is all about public control  . The police tend to see all of us as criminals. I have had a real eye opener on this. I have always had a deep respect for my local police, but had a shock the other day. While shopping, I overheard make some remarks from a high ranking LEO about blacks and other minorities (I am white)  that would have been more appropriate coming from a KKK clansman. He was very vitriolic and earnest. He also let it be known that anybody who did not follow his agenda was just as bad and worthy of punishment. Too much "Us and Them" mindset floating around in law enforcement right now. With the Federal Government facilitating arming them as paramilitary formations, I no longer look at them the same as I have in my 71 year life.   A Police Chief, appointed not elected, has no voice in how I exercise my Constitutional rights. I am not a Liberal, but being a Conservative does not mean I believe in a police state.

 36. I wasn't necessarily referencing an employment at Will situation, but was just talking about the specific situation you described (which is the typical way employees are hired). While there are some (And from my experience, relatively few) cases where employees get "screwed," I talk to many terminated employees (usually more than a few each week) who THINK they have been screwed, but in reality, probably should have gotten fired. Most of the time, those employees refuse to believe that they weren't very good employees and want to find ANY other reason. The majority of the time, the fired employee was just a difficult person (too many complaints, didn't get along with other employees, didn't get along with customers, had a generally poor attitude, etc). It is very hard to find a definitive "cause" to point to, but the employer just gets tired of it.

 37. Just got back from Terry Walden's.  My early evening plans got canceled, so I put together a quick range bag and drove down there on a whim.  I was the only person on any of the ranges shooting, which was awesome.  While I could see Terry's getting a little crowded during peak hours, for the price and area to shoot, you can't go wrong.  The two pistol ranges looked nice (I only shot my AR) when I went to check them out as well.   Overall, I'd give Terry Walden's my recommendation if you are within what you consider reasonable driving distance and want to send some rounds downrange.  As with all things, those you share the range with account for a large part of the experience, so your mileage may vary.

 38. Sounds like a replay of the HCP class I took at Dandridge PD. No one needs an Ar except law enforcement, their is no need for a magazine with more than 7 or 8 rounds, if the Brady Bill was still in effect, Sandy Hook or Gabby Gifford would have never taken place, blah blah, yak yak, BS!

 41. Glenintenn   Bingo!  They have one that looks like it will work.  After the conversion in 64, Winchester shipped the 1894 30-30 with 4 different shaped and sized buttplates.   Thanks for the tip.  They are shipping mine out today.

 43.   They also need to "immediatly" cancel any more American astronaunts from going to the space station, somehow get any Americans home from the space station. It's a national embarrassment that we don't have a current vehicle to go and come back from space, they could go to the Smithsonian and retrieve an old Apollo capsule from the early 70s when we had the technology to make trips to space on our own and bring them back, they seem to be reliable.

 48. If you are not going to Walgreens due to their no firearms policy for employees then I suggest that you do not step foot in any retail store. I have yet to find one that does Not have that policy in place. It is simply an insurance thing. What we need is a law that eliminates employers liability if an employee defends themselves.
