I got to fly with my grandfather back in 2003. He had a bunch of combat missions in one as a pilot over Europe, and then flew hundreds of missions in an H model dropping life boats over the Pacific. He was 83 years old and on a walker due to breaking his hip, but the evening before was commenting on whether or not we'd have to pull ourselves up through the hatch like they did when they had a full load. The next morning, that plane pulled onto the tarmac at John C. Tune with its Pratt and Whitneys roaring in all their glory. He tossed his walker to the side and walked up to that plane like he was 20 again. The pilots were as honored to have him on board as he was to be there. They put the navigator's chair down and a space for him in the cockpit. On the taxi out and takeoff roll you could see his head and the pilot's turning in sync as they both went through preflight checks. To the day I die, that will be one of my most cherished memories.5 points

Good grief. A group of high school folks got together and did what has been TRADITION for hundreds of years and asked publicly for forgiveness if they had wronged anyone, stated they forgave anyone that had done them wrong and were thankful they got to eat. They thanked their version of providence, but anyone in the crowd could have thanked aliens, the devil, budda or Pee Wee Herman for where they believe it came from. No one held at gunpoint, no be-headings and NO issues from within the group, only outsiders with the means to propagate their own daily bread by stirring the pot. I think some of you would turn down a bottle of water in the desert if someone said God led them to bring it to you.3 points

It's easy to afford a $240 knife. Without the GF you will find you have LOTS of money to spend on cool stuff. And just think this knife will not nag or whine. It doesn't mind if you go out with any of your other knives. You can have more than one by your side at anytime without worrrying about jealousy. It doesn't care if you leave it in the drawer for months. It won't complain if you fondle it in public. It's all WIN...3 points

It can be difficult, and it is in this case. For those who deny the existence of a God or use another name like Allah, Jehovah, YHWH (or Yahweh)...et al, it doesn't work. Setting aside the objections of non-believers since I know that isn't taken into high account here...this situation has a public school (aka: a government institution) pushing a specific Christian God- take it or leave it. That's a no-go when you account for the source and the ACLU knows a winning case when they have one.3 points

Just arrived today, a Bat M dual port with a Lilja 1-10" x31" 1.3 dia. The stock is a McMillan MBR and it's chambered in a 300 WM the scope is a NF 12-42 BR model. So far it seems to like 74 grns H-1000 but I'll stretch it out in the morning at 500 yards to verify. Even at 28# pushing the 230 grn match hybrids, it has a hefty kick.2 points

A friend of mine had a custom made knife that his father gave to him years ago and this past hunting season I ended up using it a few times and really liked most aspects of it. I am fairly ignorant when it comes to knife making lingo but did my best to convey what I wanted and between that and a sketch he hit the nail on the head. If anyone wants a beautiful handmade knife do not hesitate to contact Grand Torino. here's a few pictures.2 points

I don't know about you all, but if the principal came to me and suggested I do something, I would take it to mean that's what I must do. Just like if my boss came to me and said, I'd like you to work overtime on a project. To me, he is just telling me in a nice way, that I must work overtime. From what I've read here, the Principal was in the wrong, and as a representative of the Government (in this case the School System), so was the School System. Had a parent gone to the cheerleaders and suggested it, then there is no problem here. Nor would there have been a problem with the cheerleaders themselves getting together and coming up with it. That's a student led prayer and protected. But that's not what I have read.2 points

I consider WASR the Remmy 870 or Mossy 500 of the AK world. They just work. They seem to have sobered up the folks in Cugir and Vermont over the last year or more, as you seldom hear of the canted sights/blocks now, and the magazine well enlargement seems to be more consistent. They have also been configured with real solid wood stocks and handguns for some time now instead of the plywood. A late convert to AK world myself, I liked the first one so much I got another. At about the same price as a new Glock in hand, I consider them among the best bargains in gundom. And much more accurate than the average AR sycophant would have you believe. - OS2 points

Absolutely it makes a difference. As I said in an earlier post, the point of the establishment clause in the first amendment was to prevent the Federal Government from establishing a National (referred to at that time as a "State") religion. When the constitution and bill of rights were enacted, several states had a "State religion". There is a BIG difference between Federal, State, and County governments. The fact the lines are being blurred between them is a large part of our problem today. The federal government has NO business in the education business. I could make an argument that other governments don't either, but I am in the minority on that opinion.2 points

I find it amusing how some who often complain about the size and overreach of government want to use that behemoth to intervene on their behalf and put a stop to speech they find offensive. I know I certainly feel better that my tax dollars are being used to employee bureaucrats who will police such functions to make sure nobody is offended by any religious speech. ;)2 points

I'm not convinced that's what's going on here at all. The ACLU whined about it being on the speakers so the school stopped. Problem solved. If the cheerleaders want to do their thing, then there is no problem. If everyone else wants to join in, that's cool too. Even if some of those people are school employees. So long as there is no coercion from school officials, I don't see anything other than people expressing their 1st Amendment rights. Now, if some Muslim kid wants to use that moment to pray, that's cool too. If other Muslims want to join in, by all means. But I'm calling BS on the notion that since so many people are participating, it is exclusionary to other faiths and non-believers. Being in a majority doesn't negate the 1st Amendment anymore than being in the minority. I interpret the reaction of those who take issue with this as being upset that others might "feel" excluded or uncomfortable. That doesn't trump ANYONE'S right to exercise the 1st Amendment. I've spent many years in several Muslim countries too. I've also spent more time than I care to admit in the northeast part of the country. So I've been to my share of Catholic and Muslim weddings and funerals. Almost all of those involved religious ritual amongst the followers. Anyone who has been to a Catholic wedding knows what I'm talking about with all the standing and kneeling. Muslims have their own rituals, especially at funerals. I may have felt out of place in those crowds, but never excluded or uncomfortable. They believe what they believe, and I believe what I believe. Now, before you tear me apart by pointing out that these were religious events which I willingly attended, my point is simply that a person's feeling of being excluded due to another person practicing a belief has nothing to do with the person practicing their belief; it has to do with the person who feels excluded. Anyone who is firm in their beliefs should not be concerned with another person practicing theirs. That's just silly. On another note, is anyone going to point out the skirts these cheerleaders are wearing? Maybe the community I went to school in was more religious, but there is no way Jesus approves the length of those skirts. Is this the norm now? Not to be a prude, but no way would I be cool with my daughter going anywhere dressed like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I still check around on Armslist every so often looking for a unicorn, and the ARs are still listing for more than they're worth. Not sure if they're actually selling at those prices or if they're just hoping for a sucker. I've built several ARs this past year for friends, and have walked them through selecting which parts they want to have on there and it has never been cheaper. Hell, it's cheaper now to get whole and parted ARs on the commercial market than it was to buy a garbage neutered AR15 over 15 years ago. Trust me.... I bought an Oly Arms during the ban in the late 90s. With the deals running nonstop online, it is stupid cheap to buy an entry level AR, or build one with all the bells and whistles. Commercial sales can't possibly get lower. As far as bubba goes, I think we've seen the end of the great purge. Whatever bubba went and put on his credit card during early 2013 is long been sold. I don't see the civilian market going down with the exception of the occasional desperate seller. I can still build a new rifle for cheaper than 90% of the used ones I've seen listed (which are entry level). The rest which folks have kitted out with expensive to fast items are a different story. There are probably a lot of good deals on those types of rifles, since they're having to compete in a market where many buyers just want a basic AR, and may be willing to pony up a few extra dollars for gimmick gadgets, but not break the bank. As for the elections, you'll see those prices start to climb well before November '16, especially if the Hillary is looking like she might win. I'm surprised we haven't seen a slow rise right now so close to midterm, but I'm sure there will be a run in November, then a huge spike in January if the Dems take the House. If not, folks may enjoy another year and a half of these low prices on ARs/AKs and standard capacity mags. My suggestion to everyone I talk to who wants an AR but can't afford one is to buy up several lowers. They'll be grandfathered, most likely, if there is a ban, which means you can hang on to it and build it later. It's what I've been doing, but they keep turning into rifles. It'll be nice to have later on down the road so my kids can still get their own ARs. Plus, if you get a stack of lowers, they will skyrocket in value later if a ban goes into effect. Don't know how much a pre ban lower goes for in California, but I know they ain't cheap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

The fact is that the school system can neither condone nor repress student prayer... They cannot initiate it, nor (...i think...) participate in it, lest it give the appearance of endorsement... The fact is that the cheerleaders can, indeed, pray and so can any or all of the students... It's the First Amendment in action and it has already been ruled on... The Tennessee ACLU well knows that and they are just tryin to bully the school; and they can, the administrators, that is... They can't stop student lead prayer and they well know it... As some other folks have said very well, those who are against this sort of thing are just tryin to bully and scare a bunch of kids; which, by the way, is against the law... What these idiots and bullys are tryin to do is nothin less than what the Nite Riders did after the civil war... These sons and daughters of satan need to leave these kids alone before someone catches them doin some of this "intimidatin" and gives them exactly what they are askin for... These folks are guilty, at the mininum of assault, which is a legal matter.... They also are guilty of tryin to push around someone's precious child; which is another matter all together... Oneida aint Nashville, and the indigenous natives may well take this matter very seriously themselves in a vigilantte way; and im perfectly ok with that... If there were more beatings for saying and doing stupid things, there would be less stupid actions.... As to you 'uncommitted' and unprayin folks; if these sons of b***es can make a bunch of kids quit praying thru intimidation; what makes you think they can't do the same to you...? Our prayers are with you Oneida Cheerleaders, Students, and Families.... So are our shillelagh's too... Ya that aint into prayin; just bring the shillelagh's... leroy2 points

According to SCOTUS the prohibition on the establishment of religion is one of the immunities which is incorporated via the 14th amendment, just like SCOTUS has ruled the rights of the 2nd Amendment are incorporated on the states via the 14th amendment. As for section 3 of the TN Constitution, the school is created by an act of the state legislature aka, a law. As such any sub-division of the legislature created by law is prohibited from giving preference to any religion... This is also settled case law by the TN Supreme court for the better part of 30 years. And if that doesn't work for you... the principal is clearly a 'human authority' and has by his own admission interfered with the rights of conscience by making a request of students under his charge to make a religious prayer at a school function. My guess is if the principal had requested that these cheerleaders say 'allahu akbar' during the minute of silence, you'd be ready to run him out of town on a rail... That is why it's wrong, and why good Christians should demand their government not endorse any religion, because tomorrow it may well be some religion they don't believe in that is being endorsed. When Christians try and use their majority to force this issue into the public sphere, by using government to try and establish their fate... they're making it easier for religious minorities such as Muslims to establish sharia law in this country... because if schools such as this one can endorse Christianity then the government can endorse sharia law be established on followers of Islam. At the end of the day, the real problem here is we have government run schools to begin with... it's not good for anybody of faith to allow the government to take custody of your children for 6 to 7 hours a day... but until we do away with government run schools, they need strict restrictions on those school, including anything that has even the slightest feeling of endorsing any religion. Trust me in the long run that is what benefits everybody involved include Christians.1 point

I'm still waiting for proof that there was a liberal plot to change Popeye. More likely, this was just the normal changing of a cartoon to meet modern times. Popeye is/was a sailor, right? Well, the public image of sailors isn't rowdy guys with cheap tattoo's anymore. I'm sure there are plenty of rowdy sailors with tattoo's, but the Navy has cleaned up is image over the years. Also, pipe smoking is no longer in fashion. So, the cartoon changes to keep relevant with the times. No evil plan liberal attack on Popeye, just a company trying to sell their product in today's market. I'm sorry if some of you older folks feel slighted, I too remember the old Popeye comics, but they make cartoons for kids, not adults.1 point

So what’s your point? You think that if in some way shape or form some “government official†made a suggestion and the cheerleaders thought it was good idea, that now they are forever barred from having 1st amendment rights in this matter?1 point

I predict the ACLU aint gonna touch this... They got what they wanted... An "official" prayerless moment of silence... As i read things, the Oneida Special School System went along with the ACLU demand... We can quibble about who "initiated the prayer"; the principal askin the chearleaders, or the cheerleaders themselves... That's a "we said, they said thing"... What you can't stop is voluntary student lead prayer, it's First Amendment in action, no matter who feels "uncomfortable" or is indignant... When these kids say this action was done based on their own initiative, this will be over... What you self appointed protectors of the rights of others ought to be outraged about is the idea that these cheerleaders can be villified and threatened for exercising their First Amendment rights, no matter the belief system... I guess it's ok for a bunch of dammed perverts and internet bulllies to send them notes because they are exercising their faith; after all, it's Christians they are kickin around... I dont know about you, but it looks like the ole double standard to me... I say there aint much to your "protection of rights" platitudinous windbaggery and stands if ya pick and choose based on your take on religion (...or the lack of it...), rather than the underlying principles... Sounds like the ole hostility to whatever you dont personally subscribe to, instead of high minded protection of principles to me, but that's just me... Your mileage may (...and apparently does...) vary... Let's sit back and watch and see what happens... leroy1 point

There is no such thing as a simple prayer when it comes from someone in any position of authority. When a paid employee of government- the school principal in this case- is the one asking (read ordering) students to pray, the establishment clause is broken because a representative of a government has made his religion of choice the position of their institution. Even when someone isn't forced to actually pray, they force to partake in the process by simply being there. Honestly, if you need a comparison as to how this feels, be in the crowd as a group prayer from a religion other than yours is conducted by someone in control of the event. Having spent years of my life living in a Muslim country that had an official religion, I know this unease from different angles. But that part of the world doesn't have an establishment clause, so I had to endure it. I expect better in America. I respect the rights of any individual to pray how they please, or not to pray. I know religion is a very personal and important aspect of many peoples lives. But nobody in a position of public office has the right to invoke their religious beliefs in any way during the performance of their duties. Prayer belongs in places of worship, in the home, in private groups of like believers, but not in the public sphere as directed by a governmental official.1 point

LOL, isn't that the truth. When I first got to Bosnia our company commander told us we had to wear camouflage on our face. We also were no allowed to roll up our sleeves and expose our skin because it wasn't tactical. Then they told us we had to wear reflective vests when out of our vehicles so the cars and cow carts would not hit us. I have no problem with the clothing or equipment that LE uses providing you can tell they are LE and which LE agency. Too many officers, especially in situations like this, are tight lipped about who they work for making it hard to hold people accountable if something goes wrong. Another HUGE problem I have is in situations like this it seems like the rights of law abiding citizens are often suspended along with the suspects. Like in Boston, having LE clear you of your own home against your will is wrong. I have serious reservations about ANYONE being in my home without me being right there with them.1 point

since you asked, prayer has no place in a public forum. You can pray to your god, I can pray or not pray as I see see fit. Do it in private. I am not educated in the bible, but isn't there something in there about not being public in showing you faith? Maybe I did not word it right, but if it is true you you still get my gist. I went to a private Catholic high school. I do not recall prayers over the PA before sporting events. I do not go along with any threats of violence for much of any reason. You believe in the man in the sky, I don't. My belief should not be forced on you, nor your's on me. Can't we all get along?1 point

Yes and no. Corrosive ammo is not difficult to clean up after but the chrome bore might allow you a little more time to do it. Kinda of a moot point if you consider the gas system is not chrome-lined and will rust up faster than you could ever believe. BTW, milsurp 7.62x39 is a rarity these days. However, I treat it all as corrosive after being burned a couple of years ago on NEW manufacture Russian ammo (KSAP). It is not only corrosive, it is seriously corrosive. Unfortunately, it's really good ammo. Anytime I get new 7.62 ammo I will shoot some, save a couple spent cases, then clean as if corrosive. If it's corrosive, the cases will show in a couple of days as they are steel.1 point
