  1. As far as the language thing......I have no filters, and think language is a petty thing to get offended at, but responding to someones request to stop talking a certain way with violence is completely indefensible. And it takes a special kind of bitch to punch an elderly person for any reason.

  4. My step son, who has a carry permit, was taking a walk a few blocks from the house when a car pulled up not far from him.  I guy got out and walked towards him swinging a bat and demanding his money.  Don't know the words my step son used, but when the perp seen that he had a gun he left in a hurry. Since my wife and I often take walks in the neighborhood, I ordered a gun and got my own carry permit. Better safe then sorry.

  5. I disagree with the later part though I can't find a fault with the former. I disagree that the exposure to movies and music is a leading contributing factor to much anything wrong with young people today. I'm still clinging bitterly to the concept that I'm a young person so I'll just use myself as an example, I've been exposed to about every tasteless song, filthy movie, crass television show, violent video game, or what have you that anyone else would be and have never punched out an old man over an ass chewing. I think it gets rationalized or explained in many ways and forms, but at the end of the day I think some people are just pieces of shit plain and simple. That's why there are rich pieces of shit, and poor pieces of shit, white pieces of shit and black pieces of shit. Brown ones, yellow ones, red ones, pink ones, and on and on. Nothing turned them the way they are, except maybe possibly some social/ economical situation that maybe isn't helping, but even to that end some people will never cease to disappoint if left to their own devices. Try an experiment on yourself if you want some proof, spend the next six days listening to old NWA records and playing grand theft auto 5. I'll bet you a nickel that it doesn't turn anyone here into a hardened criminal no matter how many hookers you run over on your tv. As to swearing, its like using big fancy words or metaphors, there's a time and a place to use them to make your point, don't let swear words become a substitution for a vocabulary, make them additions to it.

  8. I'm still a new guy here, but I thought I'd share this story. I play music for a living. I was heading to a quick rehearsal over in East Nashville about 7 months back, and if you know that area then you know that the apparent danger level can differ street to street due to the transitional nature of East Nashville. While driving down the street about to reach my destination I encountered a group of about 15 young adult males seemingly engaging in a verbal altercation. I honked my horn and asked politely if they could move as they were blocking the road. I continued about 5 or 6 houses down, parked my car, grabbed my guitar and started walking on the street toward the house. All of a sudden, I hear a bunch of gun shots ring out and saw dust rise up from being hit right next to where I was standing. I jumped in the ditch and checked myself for holes. Then I left my guitar and ran into the house and dialed 911. The 911 operator answered and I told him what was going on and the location, and he told me he gets calls for the area all the time. I then asked if he'd send some police officers out. We all waited at the window for an hour and not a single police officer showed up which was incredibly frustrating. I drove back the next day to pick up my gear in the afternoon and saw a woman crying outside her house because these men shot up her house. She claimed it was her neighbor. Anyway, the first line of defense should be yourself. I don't want to rely on anybody but me to defend my life should the situation ever arise. Not to mention, when I'm off the road I am playing on Broadway at the Honky Tonks and am constantly carrying large sums of cash from gigs. Many of my friends have been robbed in parking garages. One of whom was beaten by six men. They stole $600 from him... A whole day of pay from three gigs. The doctor said the blows to his head almost killed him. Anyway, that's my story. Anybody else ever have similar experience? What made you decide? Did something happen?

  9. I read that washing with regular soap and water was better than the anti-bacterial soap. I thing self quarantine the best, stay to yourself, no handshaking, stay only close enough you can hear me Yell to stay back!! These are some crazy times we are living in. Sort of like it says in Revelation.

  10. I went out and hung a stand this afternoon. Actually just took my climber and found a good spot and leaving the stand at the bottom of the tree. I had to get moved down the ridge more to better cover the other trails but I feel good for Saturday morning. On the way out saw a doe and a small buck (looked like a 6 point) standing in the landowners yard.

  12. I'm glad you are ok. That would be scary.   I saw the light after the restaurant I worked at was robbed at gunpoint. I was off that night but realized it could have easily been me leaving that night with a pocket full of cash. After that I started carrying a .38 in my front pocket while waiting tables.    Not long after that I left my local bank just 15 minutes before it was robbed. I was armed at the time and often wonder what would have happened.

  13. While I have been shot at before, nothing like that made me get mine. I was just living in some areas that had increasingly become... well lets just say less friendly. I always followed the law as far as being armed, and in most places I could either open carry or have a gun loaded or unloaded in the vehicle so didn't really need one. But when I returned from Japan I was stationed in Savannah GA and many things had changed, I decided it was time to have one so applied and have kept one ever since.

  18. We have two dogs that are part of our home protection plan, Lilly and Gus. And that is the remnants of an aggressive soccer ball that needed to be attacked. First is Gus. He is an Alapaha Blue Blood bulldog. It is a rare breed and I would wager the vast majority of people have not heard of them. They are protective and loyal dogs. Gus has some basic German commands down and will act aggressive on command. I have zero doubt that if we need to be protected he will go head long into harms way to protect us. He will be getting some more advanced training when it cools down some. Although Gus looks like an English bulldog there are some significant differences. First he does not have the breathing issues the English does, his teeth are much more aligned than an English, he is taller as well as being faster on his feet than an English and finally he us much bigger. In this picture he is ~10 months old and 90+ pounds. I know the date in the picture is a bit off but it was taken And here is Lilly. She is an a-typical pitbull. She is loving, not aggressive towards other dogs and wants loved more than anything else. She listens very well and even though we have not worked with her there is no doubt she would protect us. But most times all she wants to do is get hugs and kisses from anyone, including guests.

  24.   I wonder what impact this will have since we'll soon be entering cold & flu season? They just announced on the news tonight that over 100 people are being "monitored" because of contact with the ebola patient & his family. Of course I don't expect this to have the same widespread negative impact as HIV/AIDS, but it could cost lives or make a lot of people very sick if it's not taken more seriously than the CDC & govt. are now. Take steps to stop it now before it spreads across the U.S. & our schools, etc...

I hope after this rain tonight and tomorrow, followed by the cold air will have the deer really moving Saturday! 40 is gonna feel cold to us right now since we aren't used to it yet, and to only be in the low, low 60's for a high? Yep, I feel another 14 hour day....wait, if I'm planning on the deer moving, that means I shouldn't have to sit there all day.....I feel another 2 hour morning hunt, then field dress it, and come back out that evening and get another one LOL.

  30.     I do hope you're right about it not being airborne. But there is some concern and conflicting information on that.   http://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2014/09/commentary-health-workers-need-optimal-respiratory-protection-ebola   I get CDC updates...they come pretty much daily right now. The CDC...besides the usual stupid crap they recommend... say that we need to be at least 3 feet away for infected patients...kinda hard to do when you initially triaging them, obtaining vital sign, blood work etc.   If you dig back through several links in a CDC update you may run across "environmental cleansing". Currently the CDC is saying the Ebola virus may  live on a surface up to 6 days. That's pretty darned remarkable.     I am not an "Ebola-phobe", but the conflicting data is out there. I'm also concerned about the entrovirus that's spreading through the kids...     It may truthfully be some time before we actually know what we're up against folks.     Good luck with that whole quarantine thing. The Nanny State coupled with the "gimme's"...what a combo.     :2cents:

  32. An update on that Honda eu6500 carb I was having problems with....   I took it out and cleaned it. Put it all back together. Not much better. Decided to call it a day so I took it off again (probably the 4th or 5th time that day) and took it in to Howard's Honda in Donelson. They cleaned it up and I put it back on with fresh gaskets. When I turned the fuel supply on, gas was flowing all over the place. I thought the float was stuck and not pushing the needle up to stop the flow, but that wasn't it. Took it apart a few times trying to figure it out, then took it back in the next day. Talked with the tech there and discovered that I'm an idiot. I had the fuel supply and fuel drain lines backwards. He gave me a word of warning that I had probably dumped fuel all down in the cylinder which would also get in the oil, so I needed to change the oil. I did so and mounted the carb properly. It started, but still ran rough.   Took the whole thing in (what a pain to load that beast in the back of the SUV) the next day. Once he heard how it was running, he started asking all the right questions. I had replaced the dead battery with an aftermarket one and added a battery tender at the same time. The slightly larger battery size along with the wires for the battery tender were restricting the airflow. He said they're super-sensitive about that. He tucked the wiring up nice and neat and voila! It's running like new. It was probably never a problem with the carb at all.   I was reminded of a sign at my old mechanic's shop: Repair rates = $50/hour. If you watch = $75/hour. If you help = $100/hour. If you tried to fix it before you brought it in = $200/hour

  33. ...Unfortunately, lots of small pocket .380s here on the list.   These are NOT very good choices for carry.   I use these only when I have to pocket carry which is infrequent.   If I need to conceal, I carry the biggest gun that will work with the clothes I wearing.

  34. I have two portable ones; one is an 10hp Briggs which is a 5k gen, and an 8hp Briggs which is a 3k gen/welder. They are both gas only and have to have the gas treated to keep them ready to use but the bigger one has already paid for itself the first year I had it. Our power was out for three days and it kept the freezer, which had just been stocked, running along with some lights and some other electric items that we used to cook and for comfort. The second was purchased for the welder part, and I expect to have it pay for itself real quick. I got both of these units used, for $250 or so each, they needed tuneups/adjustments but otherwise worked fine as was. I worked a JD for a year and we had many small engines come in needing carb work, most due to bad fuel, specially the one with ethanol additives. The best thing for small engines is to try to get ethanol free gas and use something like Stabil before long term storage. Starting all your gas engines at least once a month is not a bad idea either.

  35. coincidentally, just a few minutes ago, I bought a can of 100% gas for mine.  Time to rotate out gas and do a oil change.   And being the anal-retentive guy I am, I change out the oil either seasonally, or when it shows a bit of stain.   And I use SeaFoam.   It's a 18 year old Coleman 5K with a Honda engine. Bought it when we were building the house. It still looks brand new.   B.

  36.   I would think that a compensator is the biggest bang for the buck. Makes a big difference between my two light carbines in followup shots. This whole AR business is a money vs performance tradeoff, no matter how you're gonna use the gun. And, these threads should probably always start with "I have XXX to spend".

  37. People are certainly different. When I take the same thing as you the most it does for me is to constipate me and keep me from sleeping. I tend to just tough-out the pain without pills for the most part. That kind of sucks when you've had two back surgeries.

  38.           New update, the Convicted felon, wasn't a convicted felon.  I love how the news just runs stories with out any fact checking.     Trying to get a source but Robin Meade on CNN just told it minutes ago.     Not finding a link to it yet, but like most changes they don't make as much of an effort to get the mistakes corrected as they do to get the first story published.

  41. ^This, most people have no Idea how well prepared the US healthcare system and our population actually is for a pandemic when compared to these countries in Africa. The pictured row of isolation carts extends several dozen yards down the hallway and is just the tip of the iceberg. The kicker is that they aren't there b/c of the recent ebola outbreak, they've been lined up there "at the ready" since before I started working here in 2007. . . I'm not saying it won't ever happen here, I just don't see ebola being the pandemic that we have been planning for or worried about.

  44.   +1. They allowed .22 where my wife & I went. The only handgun they didn't allow at our class was single action revolvers. I guess it makes sense since 99% of people won't choose a SA revolver for SD carry, but it disapointed my wife since she had recently bought her first handgun; a Ruger Single Six, & was hoping to use it. The instructor had an assortment of about 10 handguns in a selection of calibers that he loaned out for free to anyone that needed one. My wife used one of the free loaner pistols & got a perfect score on her range test so it worked out fine.

  45. Got out early this am.  Took my buddy along in hopes to film a hunt.  WX was great today hunted till about noonish.  Going in was the adventure. Startled some dogs that need to go bye, bye!  They charged us, I didn't realize that I could draw from the hip that fast.  Didn't take a shot on them, they retreated as soon as I drew. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the morning.  All we that we saw were squirrels and chipmunks. Those nasty ol mutts must have ran deer all night long. The moon didn't help much either.  I swapped out the sd card when we left. Came home reviewed the camera. I see that I have a coyote problem as well.  So time to dial up extension .243 and 5.56.  Those things are going down!!
