We can't have a thread ending on a happy note like this. There was so much speculation that these folks were kidnapping dogs, whisking them away to some creepy barn out in the middle of a field full of crop circles, and slowly grinding them alive into snausages [sic] with an under-powered lumber chipper. At least tell us that the camel had ebola or something. :)9 points

Well folks, I went and got my Colt back this morning. I must say it was a nice place. It is in Pulaski on a 35 acre farm. Very nice man and woman. It seemed to me to be on the up and up. I didn't even want to leave lol. They had a big nice cabin and a barn and a couple ponds. He was taken good care of. They actually have there a camel. Yep, an 8 foot tall camel that Colt had befriended in his last few months there. I am glad I got him back. They actually didn't even ask for a fee but I went ahead and donated generously. He is back home doing well. We are sitting outside by the fire as I type. I am going to get him chipped next week when I take the smaller dog in for her second rounds of shots. Glad he is home.6 points

Well I finished this monster... 1/4" thick 1095 carbon steel heat treated to RC60. The blade is 10" long with an overall length of about 16 1/4". It's got olive green canvas micarta scales with light grey G10 liners. I has jimping on the spine forward of the handle and the scales are mechanically fastened as well as epoxied. It weighs nearly 2 1/2 pounds. :lol:4 points

A while back PSA ran a deal on an AR10 and AR15 Stripped lower for $170ish. About the same time they ran an 18" Melonite Rifle Kit with MI 15" Float Rail for $699 so I jumped. A week later they emailed me to tell me that they were having some delay with their melonite 18" barrels, so offered to cancel the order, or build the same spec upper with a stainless barrel and throw in 3 G3 308 PMAGS. I took the offer. I ordered on Sept 27th and received the kit on Oct 16th. I got it out to the range for a few shots on Friday to sight it in. I only had 10 M80 rounds, and 5 GMM 168 SMKs with me, but maanged a 7 shot 2 inch group with the M80, and a 5 shot 1.5 inch group with the SMK's. I was shooting off a bipod at 100 yards. I think I can tighten up a bit with a sandbag. Maybe can get 1.25 with the SMK's consistently. I did have a stove pipe about 5 rounds in on the m80. The gun is a little stiff, but is loosening up, so hopefully no more stove pipes. The trigger is the standard PSA classic. I polished the contact surfaces a little bit, which helped a lot, but it is still a little too heavy, but not gritty at all. Anyway, the fit and finish are GREAT! I have a really nice looking AR-10 for less than $850 (with three mags!) I had the harris bipod laying around, and replaced the standard M4 Stock and grip with an ACS-L and MOE+ grip I picked up on Saturday. the scope is a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10X44 that I used to run on my SCAR. I am pretty happy with this thing. I hope to wring it out a bit in the coming weeks if I can get away from work. The guns is fairly light. The MI rail PSA uses is a lot lighter than the MI rails I have used in the past. There are a lot of gripes about PSA Customer Service. Yeah they ship slow, and they are hard to get in touch with, but they have always stood behind their products and the offer to "make it right" was much appreciated. The stainless barrel is a decent upgrade, and the 3 mags is a $55 toss in. It's worth waiting for smoking deals. As I have said before, if they hired a bunch more Customer Service and Shipping folks, they'd have to raise their prices.3 points

Check with Whittaker's guns up in KY. Here's the link to their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/whittakerguns . They have the largest selection of rifles of any dealer I can think of with 5-6 hours of here and depending on where you are located in Wilson county they may only be about 3 hours or so from you. Everyone I've dealt with up there has been really nice. If you get on their FB page and ask if they have any mini 30's they usually get back with you in a reasonable amount of timebut you could also try calling them if you want a quicker response.2 points

Carrying a large knife in public will likely get you some special attention. And possibly get you an intent to go armed. Better off with some pepper spray in your pocket, or just stay home if it's really that bad out there.2 points

I received my Dark Angel today. As other Protech knives, it was very sharp and the craftsmanship was excellent. The desert sand aluminum handle looks very nice with the stonewash blade. This is my first single action OTF knife and I quickly learned to keep my fingers clear of the retraction lever. The nylon sheath was a welcome addition as I hadn't expected it to be included. I believe the Dark Angel would be a great knife for a TGO run.2 points

I happened to stop by my local gun shop the other day and hidden in the gun case was a new S&W Model 929 9mm. This is one difficult gun to find at this time. Had a chance to shoot a few rounds today and this gun is really great to shoot. I shot 72 rounds of my IDPA 124 gr FMJ with a power factor of 128000. With the removable compensator on the gun I was able to shoot very fast with great accuracy. When I took the compensator off and put the replacement cap on the end of the barrel and the gun shot just as well. I do believe the gun is a little flatter shooting with the compensator on. I plan on shooting the gun in USPSA revolver division and the gun will be scored minor. I will give more updates later.1 point

I let my last AK (I know, I know) get away from me over 10 years ago, and never regretted the decision to go all AR pattern, all the time. A few weeks ago, I noticed a deal at Palmetto State Armory offering a VZ2008 with 5 mags, mag pouch, bayonet/sheath, sling and cleaning kit for $399.00. How could I go wrong? Well, according to any number of interweb commandos, I could go very wrong indeed. The list was long - glacial service from PSA, canted front sight bases, mutant FCGs that would be unreliable, corroded barrels, handguard temps approaching that of the surface of the sun, a couple of well-documented "gremlins" resulting in dead triggers, folding stocks that required sandblasting and the hammer of Thor to release, virulent strains of ebola virus impregnated in the beaver barf stock...OK, just kidding about that last one, but you get the idea. The phrase "the monkeys at Century Arms" was repeated often. Well, I am happy to report a very, very, satisfying buying experience. First, PSA took exactly 4 business days to ship my rifle. When I opened the box at my FFL's place, I found a rifle in immaculate condition. 3 of the 5 mags were new and unused, 2 were only slightly used. Bayonet/sheath was new, sling was all leather and entirely serviceable with some scuffs. The mag pouch was as nice a piece of leather as has ever come out of an Eastern bloc nation. Thick, supple leather you could sew a strap on and sell to some hipster for serious ammo money. The folding stock was stiff, but a shot of Breakfree and some ooomph had it working in a couple of minutes. I took it home quite pleased with myself. But how would it shoot? After a bit of a shocker finding reasonably priced 7.62 x 39 (have I made a mistake?), I cleaned and lubed the VZ and headed for the rifle club. I put up an enormous "Vote For XXXX" sign at 50 yards, in case I had one of the dreaded canted front sight rifles. With any of my ARs, I could hit this sign from NE Alabama on a clear day. I then plopped myslef down behind my range bag and fired 5 shots. The trigger was kinda long, kinda heavy, but smooth. It allowed good shooting if I did my part. Downrange, I discovered a tidy group about 2.5" with 3 round sinto almost exactly 1 inch! In my experience, few rifles have iron sights this well regulated from the factory. I was thrilled. Remember, this is a $399.00 rifle shooting Tula. a rifle that, by all accounts, should have spontaneously combusted somewhere between the factory and my FFL. Over 2 nights of enthusiastic shooting, I have put 440 rounds of Tula through my new acquisition. Function has been 100% with no cleaning or lubrication. The sights are rough for my 50+ year-old eyes and the trigger is nothing to write home about, BUT they are perfectly functional and good enough to allow some pretty precise shooting. Rapid mag dumps are nothing, though the handguards do get pretty warm. I bought this VZ because: A. It was cheap B. The Hildabeast will not want me to have it a couple years from now. 3. I can throw it in my trunk and not bury my head in my hands and weep openly if it were stolen - as I would if it were my Noveske, my DD, my BCM, my Colt, or my M&Ps. I'm keeping it because its a damn good firearm, and it will never be worth less than what I paid for it. Get one while the gettin's good.1 point

Yessir, we all shot yesterday ... had a damn blast... best shooting ever, all the major manufacturers turned out and gave everyone free suppressors and ammo.....ATF was onsite doing instant no-tax approvals on them too.... blue angels flew over... Hooters girls there with free wings... great day man... everyone was asking where Verne was??? Ha, sorry V, couldn't resist yanking ya.. hope you've been doing well. We do need to breathe a little life back into it. Wife just had double knee surgery last Friday so it knocked me out of this past weekend had it taken place. Guess we're back to planning another date... be nice to see everyone though.1 point

It's not that you look funny or anything. Your problem is your to nice. When I go to Academy or someplace similar I quit being nice when I clear the door on my way in. Once inside I am a customer and being a customer I will ask for help once and that person better not try and leave me until I am done shopping in their department. If they do they don't try to do it twice because my nice is not with me. I left it at the door when I walked in. I don't mind getting rude to get my point across in a store if they want my money. Quit being so nice and quit being a "Shadow"...... When you walk into a business your not there to serve them. Your there for them to serve you and share your hard earned money with them. Make them earn it.....................jmho1 point

If you wanted to complete your day just go to the Outpost Armory. I'm still livid about my most recent experience. I'm done with them after the fifth time trying to buy something. I will never go back. FT , I will do my best to spread the word about how worthless they are.1 point

I agree that PSA has good deals and products. If you order and forget about it, one day you'll get a surprise knock at the door or call from your FFL dealer that your stuff is here. Very nice AR-10 for the price, atlas.1 point

Pellet stoves worked much better than wood for my grandma's house, but you can go broke if you run out of bags and have to buy some during the winter. Not sure I would recommend them to anyone who is physically able to deal with wood, especially if they have a stockpile of it1 point

Do you or did you get the name of the place that rescued Colt Glow? Since they seem to be on the up and up and did right by you and your best friend I think it might be nice of us if we sent a small donation in Colts name, even if just a few bucks each to help afford food for the big horse and camel and other critters and let them know how much TGO members appreciate their efforts at what they do and how they treated you. If it's privately owned that would mean they get no grants or help other than donations. What do ya'll think. Glow do you think it's a good idea and are the people deserving of it? You were the one that met these folks. I would send a few bucks if you think they are deserving of it..................jmho1 point

Those who like the G-42 will find means of proving its utility. Those who don't like it will find means of proving its limitations. Me? I think its a tad bit oversized for a contemporary .380 ACP but that very criticism is a plus for someone who likes a larger pistol. I don't really like the 380 ACP cartridge in comparison with the 9mm P or 38 Special but it fills a need. My LCP's not my favorite pistol but its the one that's always with me. With this compromise I made certain I can make the tool work for the user. How? I don't concern myself with its bark or bite and just use it. If you focus on the actual use and don't try to turn a defensive pocket pistol into a frequent shooter its far more comfortable. For training purposes I use an SR-22 in conjunction with the LCP. The same principle works with a G-26 or S&W M&P 22 coupled with the G-42. Think outside the box in training as well as daily survival and diversify so you don't stagnate.1 point

I shot my new Glock 42 today, along with my newest Sig P238. I honestly expected to be more accurate with my new P238 simply because I have a lot of experience with them. Oddly enough, I was a lot more accurate with the Glock 42. I was planning to sell it in favor of keeping my new P238 Desert, but that's not gonna happen now. It'll probably become my default primary carry pistol. Especially since it's even a couple ounces lighter than the P238. Only thing it's missing is Trijicon night sights and those will be installed next week. IMO, you can't go wrong with the Glock 42. As far as it being a .380 I don't really care. It still makes a hole and I have yet to meet a single person willing stand at the business end of a pistol loaded with it.1 point

I'm a huge dog lover and I have a passionate dislike for anyone that tries to scam people. If I feel that I'm wronged I don't hesitate to escalate through courts or other methods to get a fair resolution. And I hate to see any animals hurt, killed, chased, harassed, or mistreated in any way. In this case I think it comes down to the fact that your dog was running loose off your property, something you admit that he does often. Thus he was very likely off of your property when he was picked up. Whether he was picked up by a stranger or the dog pound doesn't really matter, it is against the law to let your dogs run loose, and it is entirely lawful for a loose dog to be detained or impounded. Now the question of ownership transfer gets a little complicated based on various factors, but in general if your dog was allowed to run loose and he was subsequently detained without any chip or collar to identify the owner, then a shelter or private person only has to wait a short time to see if an owner comes forward, and they generally only have to make a minimum attempt at advertising, and then if no owner comes forward to claim the dog it becomes their property. In the case of the dog pound or many shelters he would have been euthanized in just a few weeks, so you are very lucky that someone caught him and put him in a rescue shelter instead. If my dog had gone missing I would have immediately put signs up everywhere within a several mile area, contacted all of the nearby shelters and vets and neighbors, and checked back with them often until he was found. But then I never let my dog run loose, and he is microchipped, and he always has a collar on with multiple tags, he even has a special tag with his own email address and toll free hot line announcing a reward if found, so it's pretty unlikely that he would ever be missing to begin with. In your case I would have gone to get the dog immediately, taking off work or changing plans if needed, and gladly paid any fee or reward to whoever kept him alive. Even if they offered me a free return, I would have insisted on giving them a nice sum to compensate for their caring and feeding for the dog for so long. And then I would immediately take the dog to a vet for a full checkup, have him microchipped, get him a new collar with ID and rabies tags, and find a way to fence him in or secure him so he doesn't run loose in the future. The only way I could see you going on the offensive here would be if your dog was properly tagged, microchipped, and detained on your land but someone trespassed to steal your dog and deliberately kept him away from you. But you would need a lot of evidence to prove that, and it would be highly unlikely to occur. In any event I'm happy that you did find your dog, and I hope the return goes smoothly, and that you don't let him run loose again in the future.1 point
