10. If you're going to New York, do it right.  There are some good brands around MSG, but they're also covered up in tourists.  The W New York in Midtown is my go to hotel in the city now that the old Barbizon is closed.  It's a 20 minute walk from the venue, but you won't be sorry you stayed there.  Make sure you take your wife to eat at Barbaresco as well.  64th and Lexington - some of the best homemade Italian you'll ever eat.

 12. That is why the saying goes "I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6" is so relevant.  Sometimes even if you are justified, any police officer can arrest you and the DA can charge you and make you prove your innocence.  But even with all that, its better than loosing the fight.   You know, I think the law needs to be amended in some way to make frivolous lawsuits a bit more painful for those that seem to always be filing them.  A defendant can go broke defending against a BS lawsuit, the filer should be made to pay court costs and any fees associated with a successful defense of such a suit.  And that would include some of these suits brought on by criminals and their families against their victims when the criminal gets hurt during the criminal act.

 20. I had a situation very much like this one happen to a friend of mine in very clear cut case of self defense with my friend shooting and killing a would be home invader and wounding his accomplice bad enough he was alive when police arrived with paramedics. Both men were armed when they kicked in his back door and entered his kitchen. A neighbor called him and warned him about to bad guys moving around in his back yard about 9:30 one night.     He called the police and told them he had people snooping around his back door. The dispatcher ask him if he had a gun and he said yes and the dispatcher said we have cars in route but the closest to him is still at least 11 minutes out so arm your self and defend yourself until help arrives and keep the line open and I will remain on line. About 2 minutes later the dispatcher hear the kicking in of the door and the home owner told them to drop their weapons and one shot from a small caliber weapon and then a second and then he heard the sound of a heavy caliber gun fire 3 times and he told the cars in route that shots are fired at the location. When they arrived they found two bad guys on the kitchen floor.       One was pronounced at the scene with 2 gun shot wounds center mass and the other one was hit in lower right side and bleeding profusely but non life threatening and being transported. The police began their investigation by taking pictures of the damage to the door and frame area all over the kitchen being proof that the bad guys were not just invited in. Friend was never charged but was sued by family members of both bad guys in Civil Court.     He hired a relatively good attorney and the attorney filed counter suits doubling the amounts in damages both Plaintiffs were asking for and added his fees in. When the counter suits were filed both of the plaintiffs in the cases weighed the facts if they lost they would both risk losing their homes and almost everything they owned so they dropped the charges and the judge in the case still slapped them with my buddies attorney's fees and they had to pay him.       Not every case turns out this way but I was glad for my friend. He was only just back from Afghanistan 3 months from his 3rd and final tour of duty. The bad guys sure did pick the wrong house that night but he did everything by the book plus that call from the neighbor was really the beginning of the end for the bad guys and he did thank the nice old lady that lives next door to his family. He and his wife took her out for a nice dinner and since then because he was concerned about her security has put all new dead bolts on her home and had a small security system installed for her and he pays the monthly service on it. With him no good turn goes unrewarded and that night he feels she may have just saved his life by giving him time to get his family protected and his gun and phone.........................

 25.   Have the courts started garnishing welfare deposits, food stamps, WIC, Section 8, etc.? Has alchemy discovered getting blood out of petrified turnips :ugh:  The courts can impose any "remedy" they desire but, collecting it is another matter. Even an attorney will advise a client not to pursue damages / loss if there's nothing to be gained.   Bottom line: If you get up in the morning to go to work, you still lose. JMHO

 31. May I offer some free advice? My background is in auto repair and automobile insurance claims for over thirty years. My suggestions to you are: 1) Tell the insurance company who you want to fix your car. pick your own repair shop. Find one you trust recommended by people you trust. If need be, ask the dealership where you bought your car who they use. Make sure the repair shop you choose has a written lifetime repair guarantee posted in the shop and somewhere on the repair order that you get a copy of. This should include all paint and all bodywork. Most insurance companies will send someone out to write the estimate with the shops help and get an agreement on borderline issues in order to make sure any supplements are small or non existent. Ask the insurer to pay you directly. This way the shop will make every effort to make sure you are happy when you pick it up and you have to write the check. Some companies will direct deposit the money to your checking account if you want. 2) make sure you get the car repaired right, don't cut corners to put a few bucks in your pocket unless you are willing to take a chance that little rattle now won't become a costly nightmare later. If the insurer pays for something and it's not done, that's your decision but it can come back to haunt you later but they aren't going to owe you for it twice. Also, shops are reluctant to bill the insurance for a new part and the put a used one or repair the part instead of replacement. This used to be a major problem, but it is less common now. That is known as the practice of salvaging. 3)Remember if the insurance company is paying for your rental you need to get the repairs started Rícki-Tiki. They only owe you for the reasonable loss of use to repair the car, the sooner repairs are under way the better the chances the rental gets handled completely with no hiccups. 4) take your fully repaired vehicle to a reputable used car dealer and show him the car after it has been repaired. He might ask to see a copy of the estimate, so have a copy handy if you decide you want to do this. After he inspects the car ask him for a written letter on company letterhead stating how much, if any, depreciation your vehicle sustained due to the loss. 5)Last, if you had all of the work performed by a reputable shop and all of the repairs are completed properly to your satisfaction, contact the adjuster and tell them you are interested in presenting a diminution of value claim. Tell them what your salesman has provided you and be willing to give them a copy of this document. This is just a part of the damages claim and like most things in life, these elements are negotiable. You have three years in Tennessee to settle all the property damage elements of your claim, or you will have to file a lawsuit to keep your claim alive. 6) one very last thing. Be realistic, and try to be fair. Insurance companies still employ people, and people have good days and bad days, just like the nice lady down at the DMV, but if you think the other guys insurance is not being fair in their dealings with you, turn the claim in to your carrier. All you will be out of pocket is your collision deductible, and you will get that money back when your company surrogates against the other carrier. Good luck and sorry to hear about your misfortune.

 32. How something prints in a pocket has nothing to do with NFA status though. My little keltec in a desantis pocket holster looks like a wallet too. I still think it's just a blocky pistol and a far cry away from the wallet guns.

 35. Businesses make or sell a product at a price point the consumer will buy at...Those buyers make a decision to buy or not buy based on price and quality... More than that, the seller aint the only game in town; there are other sellers selling a comparable product at a comparable price point...   Horders/re-sellers are taking advantage of an unfortunate event (...shortage of a product...) and are exploiting the willing to the detriment of the purchaser... There's a big difference in these two concepts...   We can quibble about the difference in selling to people who either think they are in a bind or are actually in one, and taking advantage of their real or imagined situation ALA the "....break your leg, high risk loan shark or used car sale business..." or even the Mayo ...Clinic "...we sell the only cancer medicine ya can use here if we treat ya..." thing; but at the end of the day and in the quiet of the nite; you know what is ethical because ya have a conscience...     There is a big difference between the willing buyer and willing seller idea; and the "under duress" buyer who needs (...or thinks he needs something...) and the bandit who picks his pocket... Is it legal..? yeah it is.... Is it ethical..?  nah, i dont think so; your mileage may vary...   leroy

 36. Excellent example of the rifles are still available but getting harder to find especially Finnish rifles an the carbine version like my Russian M44 which I gave $75 for out the door. Surplus ammo is still corrosive but new commercial steel case ammo is not, both are still berdan primed though. I keep most of my steel or brass case corrosive berdan primed ammo stashed away for a rainy day but I shoot some on occasion and it's no big deal to clean after shooting. Prvi Partizan and S & B make brass case boxer primer ammo, the knockoff brands are Wolf Gold and Winchester whcih are a few dollars more per box but it's the same brass with a different headstamp. As to reloading I started reloading for my Mosins as soon as reloadable brass became available. I purchase a couple hundred pieces of Prvi Partizan and Winchester brass for around $36 per hundred you can still get the Prvi at Graf & Sons for around $46 per hundred. Recently my brother and myself were able to get a quanity of once fired Prvi and Winchester 54r brass for a commercial reloader we know as it was mixed in with his barrels of range brass he was buying for his business. We probably got around 500 or more once fired cases each for 10 cents per case. Although I have J bullets I prefer to shoot cast lead out of my Mosins as it much cheaper and there just as if not more accurate for plinking, target shooting and hunting purposes. 170 gr. cast lead loads. My Mosin and the first five shot test group I shot with the above load at 50 yds.
