http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/20/news/kalashnikov-made-in-usa/ Something I didn't expect to see during shot show, apparently Kalashnikov is going to get around that pesky little import ban and start making rifles here in the US. According to AK Operators Union "AK News BOMB!!!! Kalashnikov concern is in process of opening production here in USA. If everything will go well, we will see first, made in USA Kalashnikov Concern AKs later this year!!! All calibers will be produced, including Saiga 9 in 9mm." Fingers crossed nobody screws this up, more competition hopefully means lower prices on the toys I want to buy.6 points

They are the sons and daughters, and in some cases, the grandsons and grandaughters of the hippy trash i stepped over goin to school at UT in the middle and late sixties... I didn't think they would amount to anything or affect anything... They studied political science and pot chemistry; if they studied at all... I studied engineering; they studied causin trouble and changin the world... I didnt believe they could; but sadly they did... Come to think of it; i shoulda stomped a few of these sons and daughters of perdition on the way to class instead of stepping over them and laughing at them... leroy6 points

As much flack as I get for this opinion, I'd support raising the age by a year. It's amazing how much growth happens between 16 and 17. On a semi related note: I would be fully behind repeated driving tests each 5 years for life5 points

I finally ventured into the 1911 world over the weekend and I'm pretty happy. I put 100 rounds downrange with only one FTF. The gun even ate Gold Dot's without issue. This gun is around $100-150 more than the regular SR1911 but it comes with night sights and better grips(IMO) so I think it was worth it. Plus, I think it looks a hell of a lot better than the standard Ruger. The only negative is that the trigger leaves a lot to be desired but it's already getting better. Now I just need to find some 8 round magazines and a nice leather holster. What do you all carry your 1911's in?3 points

It is very easy to check for a drain on battery when truck is not running. Turn off everything in truck. Take positive cable off battery and hook a simple 12 volt test light between positive battery cab;e and other end to positive post of battery. If it lights up you have a short or a drain somewhere in your electrical system. If you want to check further with the test light still hooked up just begin pulling fuses from fuse panel 1 at a time and see if any of them shut the light off. If one does that will give you an idea which circuit the problem is in. If the light stays on after all the fuses have been pulled then the issue will be either in your starter or your alternator because neither one of them are fused...............just kind of a simple test...................jmho3 points

Optima Red Tops last me about 2 years. The bottom line is, fiberglass mat can't do what lead can. Duralast from AutoZone and the Wally batteries are made by the same co, and Wally has them cheaper. You really need to check that charging system though. If it is eating batteries, there is a reason why.3 points

"You see that mountain over there? Yeah, one of the days I'm gonna climb that mountain..." This one is from several years ago in Wyoming. My last trip out west to "fight" fire. We stopped to take some pics of the Tetons. And of course the obligatory pic of my little boy.3 points

Ron, Chip Cain and John Wall are both respected attorneys and are Vendor partners here on TGO. They both charge reasonable rates and their work is worth their fees. Beyond that, they support this site and make it possible for you to be here enjoying it. I thought we had put to bed the idea that economy is the key when doing a trust. You get what you pay for, and people who are doing NFA items generally are not operating under "money is tight" situations.3 points

There does seem to be disturbing similarity between some of the pictures shown. And what is worse is that some of us not posting pics follow that pattern. Is it something in the water around here that makes so many of us look sorta round and bearded?3 points

Seems everyone's favorite, Jane Fonda, is making the news circuits wishing she could undo her Vietnam photos. She understands the veterans feelings when they protest her appearances, but they still cause her pain, she really did support the U.S. Troops and was trying to do her part to end the war. Seriously Jane? Do you think anybody is that stupid? To all who served, "Thank You"2 points

I got 9 years out of the first red top optima battery I bought. I have a yellow top in my FJ.....my FJ is yellow, I had to get the yellow one! I have a blue top in my wife's Camry. It was on sale. Everyone has different experiences and circumstances. I have found Optima to be everything they claim and more. You really need the whole system looked over closely. 2 years? A cheap ass rebuild from Hester should get you better than 2 years. Something is wrong.2 points

I'm appalled by how much government intrusion some of the folks here think is OK, as long as it has nothing to do with our guns. When we talk about gun laws we preach individual responsibility, but when we're talking about licensing for other activities, it seems no amount of government intrusion is enough.2 points

I was a good kid coming up. Most all of my friends were good kids. I firmly believe that you can take the most responsible, mature, well behaved kid and stick him behind the wheel of an automobile and he is going to do really stupid things for at least a year. It's all about testing the limits of a vehicle, just curiosity. I remember one kid I went t high school with that had been racing cars since he was big enough to sit in a go kart, he was the exception. Acting a fool in a street car meant nothing to someone who had flogged a racecar in a controlled environment. Just for fun here's a partial list of the inappropriate things that I did, and I was one of the "good" kids. -drag racing. -jumped my truck -drove a two wheel drive truck up a big steep dirt pile, it's a miracle it didn't flip. -turned construction barrels into slalom cones. -hit the construction barrels to see how far they would go. -donuts -burnouts -knew the top speed of every vehicle that I could get my hands on. These activities did come with consequences. There were crashes, thank God there were never any substantial injuries to anyone else or myself. And yes, the stupidity went up when there were more passengers in the car. BTW, I was forbidden to carry passengers. Teenagers come equipped with a certain amount of stupidity. A teen can have the ability to be a great driver, they just always have a tendency to make bad choices when they think they can get away with it. Truth is there are just as many bad drivers on the road at any age, the public's driving skills just downright suck!2 points

I like it, keeps kids from having too many friends to distract them. My daughters 16 and I told her she was not allowed to give any friends rides. Depending on the situation, I'll show up and drive her and her friends as needed. I work third shift - I know not everyone can do it. I believe friends and cell phones are the biggest dangers new drivers have from talking to my friends and people from my unit who are police officers and firmen.2 points

This happened to my wife & I a few years ago while we were in a movie theater. A guy parked his dually right against my truck mirror & there was no way of me getting my truck out. The theater manager made several announcements & the owner never came out to the lobby so they had him towed. I found out later that the truck belonged to an off duty police officer that had left his truck in their parking lot while he went out drinking with his friends. The theater manager said he showed up at around midnight to get his truck & was completely drunk. I wish I could have seen the look on his face. LOL! :rofl:2 points

Went last weekend, 20 - 25 minute ride from the house, so pretty convenient. Straight-forward new shooter sign up docs and rules. Once on the range, the SO came up and introduced himself and gave us a brief synopsis of the range procedures. After we set up in our lanes, the SO re-visited and asked to see how we gripped our handguns. Odd, but OK, not an unreasonable rule or request... He then explained "why" They had a new shooter who gripped their semi-automatic pistol waaaay too high and chewed up their hand pretty well. They just want to be pro-active, especially since they rent handguns and have some level of liability. Good, common-sense safety check. The SO was personable and left me the feeling, "just follow the safety rules and unless you have a malfunction, you'll never know I'm here." The range is well lit and setting the target range is automatic once you input the yardage (3 - 25) on a keypad. Since the targets ride on a steel track, once they get to distance, they don't bounce up and down as compared to the steel cable system. Cost is $20/hour and they furnish one B-27 target. On the sales floor, they have a wide variety of targets at standard big box prices. Extensive assortment of guns for rent --- EVEN A CZ-97B, saw it with mine own eyes - I know someone here has been hunting one - if they got one for rent, they may be able to get one to buy. I think the rental fee is $15. I didn't price ammo. The handguns/long guns I spot checked seemed fairly price competitive for a brick and mortar. So would GottheGoods go back...Yes, a little pricier per hour, but the lighting, ventilation, non-bounce target system, reasonably convenient location, can probably get ammo cheaper at the Knife Works, they do have used guns (never know what kind of peach you might find), excellent customer service received from staff I have interacted with.1 point

No single stack 9mm. I guess they figure everyone buying a Shield, LC9S or Kahr will eagerly shed themselves of those good guns when Glock finally releases a gun consumers want in large numbers. Glock + 2015 = lame.1 point

I'm concerned with the quality of another american made AK using US barrels and parts. Ill have to wait and see. This could even take awhile before it happens.1 point

any time you all buy ANYTHING parts related for autos do a quick google search for "advance auto coupon code" and there will be one for $40 off of $100 or more, every single time. When I do a full set of brakes, rotors and pads, I'll place two separate orders for front rotors with pads then rear rotors with a few dollars worth of extra fluids or whatever to bump it over $100 and viola you get $200 worth of goodies for $120. Just buying the rotors & pads alone would be around $150-$160.1 point

Every now & then I carry the top revolver. It's a .45, 3 1/2" barrel. I use a Remora or a large frame IWB holster. It has the transfer bar so I carry 6 shots. Why? Why not? Cherokee Slim1 point

I really think as folks have mentioned you have something draining the battery.. Batteries from Auto Zone last me on average 4-5 years and everyone knows they are no Optimas.1 point

Pier pressure is a very powerful thing to a teenager. They all want to belong. Its hard to say no when other teens are with you. Even those that you know, without a shadow of a doubt would never something will give in to it And any mom or dad that says that "My little Johnny wouldn't do that" have a rude awakening coming. And there are some parents that just don't care. Case in point. Smoking cigarettes is really cool especially if you can do the French inhale and blow smoke rings. It's really cool until you got a 3 pack a day habit going.1 point

Ron, no offense intended here. But PLEASE don't just find a trust book or basic trust and use it for NFA purposes. That is just asking for problems. NFA trusts (if done correctly) have provisions that do not exist in many boilerplate forms (and would not be appropriate for many trusts that don't hold NFA items). NFA items have very specific issues that don't exist when a trust holds real estate, stocks, bonds, etc. Whether someone wants to use a trust service like the OP asked about or use an attorney, I understand the thought. But there is a HUGE difference between an individual filing a pro se pleading in court versus completing a trust. If a pro se litigant files something inappropriately or incorrectly, the court will generally give that person a chance to fix the problem and/or get a lawyer. With a trust, the damage is already done before anyone ever points out the problem. In the case of NFA trusts, it could easily be a federal criminal mistake.1 point

If you look around you can probably find an older German or West German P220 close to your price range. You'd be getting a much better example of what Sig can do with a 45 IMHO. Check out sigforum1 point
