  1. I couldn't think of a more deserving person to have a ship named after them... Sent from the future using my time machine made out of a Pontiac Fiero

  2. Just save up a few more shekels and get a new $500-600 AR or AK and be done with that part sooner rather than later. Seriously.   - OS

  4. There's never been a better single action 9mm than the Hi-Power.  A serviceable weapon for carry, and fun at the range all rolled into one.   I'd start there.

  11. Unfortunately, as Americans we're going to have to go through some dark times before we get an internet that's truly open.   Enfield's right.  The first impact most Americans will notice will be the new fees that suddenly appear on their bill.  You're about to be paying for all kinds of stuff.

  13. Lol, I know a lot of guys hate them...but they don't know what they are missing.  The drama.  The stubborness.  They really are brats.  For some reason, that makes them lovable.

  15. Exactly. I like to think I know a bit about guns but there are guys here that have forgotten more about guns than I'll ever know. Just listen and read and you will probably learn something.

  17. Everyone should own an AR imo, and there's never been a better time price wise to get into one. You mentioned "home defense if possible", I'm not seeing any options other than the Hipoint carbine mentioned that would double in that role. Trust me when I say you could do much worse than a hipoint carbine.

  19. Walmart sells REAL Savage bolt guns, not the Edge or Axis, for under $400 with a scope and Accutrigger. And they tend to be the most accurate rifles out of the box anymore, especially for the price. If you have some time check your local Walmart because they routinely put them on sale and you can get them for under $350.   Savages are like the 10/22 of the centerfire world. You can swap calibers at home without the need of a gunsmith. Used barrels can be bought for $50-$100 depending on what it is and new barrels can be had for $150-$200 for factory and $300 for drop in match barrels. To do a caliber swap on a Remington it will cost you $300+ in labor alone not including the barrel. Swapping barrels on a Savage takes 20 minutes while a Remington requires weeks at a smith.

  20. It may be classy but it is an abaolute piece of crap for the role it's being used in. Despite what it may seem like on the surface, 357 ain't exactly easy to find compard to 9,40&45 It's heavy, GODAWFUL loud and pathetically slow to reload. AND, this stomps a lot of toes out there but revolvers can and do malfunction.....only when they malfunction, you can't just clear it and rock on. In a Walking Dead world, revolvers suck, about half the 1911's suck, all your oddball pistols suck, there's very little REAL choice. A solid reliable PROVEN automatic in one of the 3 dominant calibers by one of big boys in the industry. Glock, M&P, XD this is not a time to try to express your individuality. It's classy and elegant and out of my price range but if I was given one like Rick's, I'd trade it for a pair of Glocks.

  21. You know if Colt was smart they would make a reproduction of the Python and sale it around 600 to 800 dollars and they would make a killing. Like what Smith and Wesson did with the Model 29 a few years ago.

  23. Mrparacord.com And if you're not too picky about color, they often have clearance sales with some 100ft options for under $5ea. Reasonable/often free shipping, and every month or two I get an email with a 5 to 20% off coupon good for that day or weekend. Whenever I get one of those emails, I peruse the site. About half the time I end up buying $25-40 of stuff and getting a box full of paracord. I figure it never hurts to have plenty on hand! Both my cars have some in the trunk, and another loop in each go-bag.

  25. Great, great advice here. I prefer a Smith 19 or 686, but the GP is a great option, and I've had all three but I still have the 19. I'll get another 686 first, and THEN the GP. The Ruger is a total tank, and will handle some nuclear handloads. I simply prefer the slightly more refined (and to my eyes, beautiful) Smith offerings. I would suggest taking the time to find a nice pre-lock model. There's nothing like shooting a fine, full-size revolver in single-action.

  32. Classifiers aren't easy nor fun to run. A big thanks to Joe and John and the supporting crew for doing best they could.   Only suggestion I'd make for the future is to set the course in its entirety and run each member completely through and send them home. Then at least someone would be in bed by 10:00  :pleased:

  33.   That's very true. I had a similar experience while watching one of his HBO specials with mine.   But Williams was so inventive...demented(?) in the way he could run off in a thousand directions with just one word. And seemingly make anything a long monologue.   Still miss his Tonight Show appearances.

  36.   Not everyone got his bizarre sense of humor. But, then some of us have a bizarre sense of humor ourselves! I saw him at the Fox Theater in Atlanta in 1978, at the height of his stand-up career. I think he is the funniest guy on the planet. And you are correct, he is an excellent musician and I love the way he incorporates his humor into his music.

  37. There are certain concealed-carry practices that are safe and prudent wherever you go - keep it concealed, keep your mouth shut, don't drink while carrying, when stopped let the nice officer know you have a permit and that you're carrying, look for and obey signs when entering buildings and parks. Do these things and I believe you'll be within the letter of the law everywhere that your permit is recognized.

  39. Surprised nobody has recommended a SKS. Ammo can be had for $5-6 per 20. Hunting ammo available too. Plenty good for home defense and has "history". Guns are running $250-300 and 1k of ammo still can be had around $220. 7.62x39 been doing serious work for some time and isn't going anywhere. Edit: $10 per 100 ain't gonna happen anymore unless bought in bulk online. 9mm is the closest you'll come.

  40. Yeah, you people need to stop burning fossil fuels because global warming caused the polar vortex and is to blame for the extreme weather and cold. Climate Change is upon us!  :panic:                                         Seriously, I googled and some news outlets are passing off global warming as the cause of the cold, snow and ice we're having.

  43. No offense but you don't sound like you have a ton of experience? The mosin is an excellent rifle for its price, but it shoots a fairly punishing round and it weighs a ton.  If you *want* a stout recoil bench gun, its a good pick.    sks is the fore-runner of the AK and is an excellent semi-auto defense type rifle.    These two guns are polar opposites in every way...  one is a big heavy cannon that can shoot stuff half a mile away and the other a light semi auto that shoots a relatively weak short range round.    lets take money out of the equation.  You can find cheap in just about any platform short of competition guns.   So what exactly do you want to DO with it?  How much recoil do you want (roughly), how much range, how much are you willing to pay for the AMMO (big guns cost over a buck a shot if you buy it)?
