This is our son, and his lovely wife, winning not one but two awards during his recent Air Force leadership academy. We are so proud of our son. Only 2% win the Academic Excellence but on top of that he also won the Distinguished Graduate award. His Academic Excellence award was for having the highest academic scores of two training flights, 30 students. The Distiguished Graduate award is given to the Airman who displayed outstanding leadership during the course as voted by his peers. He is, and always will be, my hero.

I see a lot of this sort of stuff in my line of work. My advice to you would be, always keep your cool. Don't think you have to prove your manhood, no need to escalate things. Sure, he struck your car with his hand and that probably made you mad. Let it go. When you strap on that pistol, you've got to learn to be humble and very forgiving. I probably missed something , but I never got the impression you were in fear of your life in your situation.  As Jonnin pointed out, if your car is close enough that he can touch it, the other guy might have had a real concern about the proximity. Personally, I like to make eye contact with a driver before I'll walk behind a car like that, especially if I have a kid or wife in tow. While it sounds like you did the right thing, just remember there are always two sides to every story.  I'll play devils advocate here. Let's say he gets on TGO when he gets home and posts this:    "Just about had to pull on a guy. I'm still shaking. I have Parkinsons and it's hard to walk straight sometimes. I was in the parking lot at Rural King walking my grandson to the store when this jackass almost backed over us. I slapped the rear of his car to make him stop and he started swearing at me. Words were exchanged and he threatened to get out of the car and whip my ass. I'm pretty sure he had something in the car with him. He seemed all pissed off for no reason. When it was over he squealed off and almost hit two other cars. Started to call the cops but my grandson was already pretty upset. This guy is lucky he didn't try to get out of that car is all I can say. I'd hate to shoot someone over something this stupid especially in front of my grandson."   See how easy it is to make you the bad guy here? It's not worth losing everything financially or otherwise over words in a parking lot. If two guys try to car jack you or rob you in the parking lot, that's a whole other game, but something like you experienced was just simply not worth going to jail or spending every penny you have to defend yourself in court. Glad it turned out okay for you. 

The moment you strap on a weapon, you have to adopt the mindset of being the one to deescalate a situation - up to and even past the point of personal affront.     It's just not worth it.

While I agree that one must keep one's cool as much as possible when carrying I don't know that there is never room for getting upset.  Based on what the OP said, I think of numbskulls in the Walmart parking lot, for example, who have their heads so far up their butts that they can see their own hearts beating, sometimes just wandering around in la-la land and, more often than not, with their cellphone to their ear as if it is surgically grafted there.  These idiots will walk past a vehicle (say a full sized van) without even looking to see if the next vehicle - the driver of which could not possible see them coming until they are actually behind that driver's vehicle unless said driver had Superman's x-ray vision - and then act like it is the driver's fault that he/she doesn't have ESP and the ability to read what little mind the numbskull has to know that said numbskull is about to pull such a numbskull move.  In a similar situation, I probably wouldn't have dropped an F-bomb but there is a very good chance, carrying or not, that I would suggest that the numbskull in question should remove his head from his butt and pay attention to where he was walking and to whether or not drivers would be able to see them before it was too late.  As a driver I try to pay attention to everything but sometimes it is simply impossible to see someone coming in a parking lot when there is a vehicle parked next to you that completely obstructs your view.  As a pedestrian, I try to keep that in mind and actually pay attention to my surroundings.  After all, in a conflict between a pedestrian and a vehicle it is the pedestrian and not the driver who will be a greasy spot on the pavement.

The Ruger American will provide hours of recreational marksmanship skills training but the Tula will make you feel good whenever you shoot it. I call both a win win. Congrats.

Thanks for the explanations.          Yep.  That's what happens when a game becomes a sport.        Walk throughs are one thing I've never really understood about IDPA.  If the whole idea is to improve your defensive pistol skills, doesn't a walk through largely defeat the purpose?  If you don't see and consequently don't neutralize a target, aren't you dead?  I understand there are guns involved and you can't just let people run around all willy nilly, but it seems like giving the shooters the number of targets and rounds they're expected to fire is way too much information.

  +1. Plus they're not trying to have a gun show or show off new products. They're looking for serious people to fill highly sought after job positions. That would be pretty hard to do with "Bubba" hanging out at the LGS talking bull about brand "X". Beretta's the oldest company in the world that's still in existence & has been building firearms for 500 years. I'd say they know a thing or two about how to run a business.

  For purposes of the 39-17-1311, it is certainly "property owned, used or operated by any municipal, county or state government, or instrumentality thereof, for recreational purposes." (so that may well cover the DOE property also).   As far as exact definition in the statute:   "For the purposes of this section, a "greenway" means an open-space area following a natural or man-made linear feature designed to be used for recreation, transportation, conservation, and to link services and facilities. A greenway is a paved, gravel-covered, woodchip covered, or wood-covered path that connects one greenway entrance with another greenway entrance. In the event a greenway traverses a park that is owned or operated by a county, municipality or instrumentality thereof, the greenway shall be considered a portion of that park unless designated otherwise by the local legislative body. Except as provided in this part, the definition of a greenway in this section shall not be applicable to any other provision of law."   Thing is, under the statute, parks are not the only recreational properties covered, so I see no way greeenways are not under this umbrella, whether they go through an actual park boundary or not.   - OS

If it wasn't for TGO, online shopping and youtube videos on how to do things I can't figure out, I wouldn't care if the web burst into flames.  

The walkthrough also reveals possible safety concerns which must be gone over.  It also gives the 1st shooter a reasonable idea about what is going to happen......Big difference if you are the 1st shooter.  It is no more a reality check than sporting clays is hunting.  Just a way to improve your skills.  But some really take it seriously, and that's OK within reason.

 I know you've already completed your lower but for anyone else thinking about a build you can't beat the instructions at this link. I watched all kinds of videos but was able to print this out and have it laying right beside me while I was building mine. Ive been in situations like that in NYC at Home Depots, if he wants to talk all that good stuff he should be ready to back it up. As hard as it is to do I'd recommend that you refrain from using #### off or any other inflammatory language in response so you cannot be accused of escalating the situation. At least when you are armed.

I've carried a pocket knife as long as I can remember. Cheaper is ok but if you can skip it. I use mine a lot and the cheaper ones like SOG wear out quickly. If you want heavy duty the ZT knives are great. If your new to sharpening I would avoid the recurve type blades, I find them harder to sharpen with a regular stone. A Protech will be my next purchase. Have heard only great things about their products and company. Everyone else is giving great advice too. Just pick one and buy it. It will not be your last. :)

in My 2011 I Supercrew I averaged 12MPH no matter how I drove it, for me I did not buy the truck for fuel economy, but the 2017 Eco Boost will have more torque and horsepower than the last Raptors and get better fuel economy I am definitely getting one I just hope the Supercrew comes out along side with the cab model and not a year later Having said that if I still owned a current gen Raptor I would keep it, and not trade it in they are awesome trucks and I miss mine but I do love what I traded it in for this is all the V8 I need believe me

Thats interesting- my experience has always been the exact opposite.

Quite a few differences in the details betwixt the pair. The Match has a full 5" pipe, I think the other is 4.5" or 4.75". Sights, trigger, hammer, etc are all different. This new (older) gun is a real steel frame I believe. The match is aluminum. Though the match is the longer gun, the steel frame makes the shorter gun heavier overall. I bet it may shoot even more softly. It also has 3 dot sights, which I prefer to the all-black sights on the match. Unfortunately I have a busy weeks ahead. It'll probably be mid-July before I get to shoot them side by side. :/

I'm a diesel guy myself.  It will take a lot for me to turn back to gas.  My 7,000+ lb sled still gets around ~18mpg, and the specs are 275hp @ 2800 rpm and 525 lb-ft @ 1600rpm.  I have pulled some heavy weight on the tongue, and I am still just amazed at the power, stability, and braking this machine has, and just a very minor drop in MPG.  She is little old, 2002 F250 crew cab, but she is just fine.  According to research, these are 500K mile engines, and I have only 140K one owner, so I guess I have a long way to go till its EOF.  BTW, of the other trucks on the road that Raptor does catch my eye on looks every now then like some young women do, but trade my rolling coal maker, no way, trade my wife for one of those young women  :waiting: .............no way!

OK, the M44 was designed to be fired with the bayonet extended, and that's the way the Soviets used it. It has to do with barrel harmonics. Now I've seen it have a big effect on accuracy in some 44's and not much in others. So when you go test fire it for accuracy, you might try it both ways just to see what it prefers. They're darn good rifles. FWIW.

This is the first project that I have played with Damascus steel. It's a completely different than the 01 steel that I normally use. I really like if!! I can see more of this in the future! This knife is available.
