  1. We had our first "cold" snap and it has already started. As I am sure everyone has seen this, the winter months tend to shorten men's fuses when we cannot get out as much. And when our fuses get shorter our responses get longer and sometimes we say things with the intent of hurting our fellow members.    Remember, we are a large family but a family none the less and that we all came here because of common ground. Every single one of us has something in common with everyone else here so lets try to find a little more common ground rather than try to figure out our differences.   And in doing so lets try to be a little more tolerant of our fellow members.   Right now we, as Americans and gun owners, are in some very stressful times so now is the time to support one another if for nothing else than to help ourselves make it through the times we are in. We MUST come together for the good of us all and that is just not possible when we are bickering among ourselves. How can we all stand united, as Americans and gun owners, when we are trying to find the differences?   So I ask for anyone involved in a heated discussion to step away from your computer for a few minutes and then reread your post before hitting submit. It might save the edit to fix that misspelled word you missed the first time as well as hopefully preventing someone from posting something they might regret.   Thanks

  4. So my wife is at the checkout today there was some lady behind her that was about shoving my wife into her cart because she thought if she was rude and pushy the cashier move faster. The lady would not back off to the point where my wife was wondering what her deal was? Then she tells my wife "you move I go next" my wife reaches into her car and accidently drops the family size bacon on her feet. Talk about taking care of a rude disrespectful person! Then she followed it up with oh my I am almost sorry guess you are still learning about personal space!

  5. So after dinner and drinks with friends, I was about to grab the wife for bed and the dogs go nuts. Now we live pretty far out so it's usually deer or squirrel but this time they were really ticked off. So I look out and there is a car in our driveway and an elderly lady at our fence. It's late, about 9:30, the gate is locked and she's yelling for help. I go out cautiously looking around and she says she left a party at her nephews where there were drugs and someone put a child in her car. Now sheriff is already on the way but I'm concerned about a child being hurt or something so while the wife watches my back I go and check the vehicle. There are two cats in the back that look in very bad shape. She is very surprised then starts telling me where she was trying to go and I don't recognize it. Then I realize she is talking about places in Michigan. My wife is from there and confirms she is talking about Michigan. After the Sheriff get there we figure out she is supposed to be in a mental hospital in Michigan. My wife managed to help talk her into the patrol car and a tow truck just picked up the car. It's crazy because we all figure she's just been driving all the way from Battlecreek Michigan. It's also crazy I just routed my house to there and after Indy it's literally like three turns. To end up all the way in the boonies of Tennessee from a mental hospital in Michigan at a house on the end of a country road where another person from Michigan lives is pretty dog gone crazy. I'm never going to sleep tonight.

  7. No worries here... I spend as much (if not more) time outside in the fall & winter than I do in summer. Prefer the colder seasons, actually. Equates to less computer time for me during those months, so less chance of me showing my ass.

  9. Busted, you got me. I'm a bigot. Trying to remember if I've ever denied being one...wouldn't wanna add liar to the list. Not a hypocrite though. I know what I am. I know who and what I love and who and what I hate. I know I don't give two wags of a rats azz what anyone's opinion is on that too. You're absolutely welcome to your opinion also. I don't begrudge anyone their opinion. I certainly have mine. Won't surprise you to discover my friends list is mighty short on account of my opinions. Know what though? It bothers me so much, that most nights, I toss and turn for sometimes upward of a minute and half to two minutes before I fall asleep.

  17. I give some credit to OU for making good adjustments at halftime to stop the run. I give blame to UT for not finding a way to counter and score some points. Hind sight being in my favor I still think 4th and 1/2 on the goal line. We should have scored 7 not 3. Also missed field goal. Anything changes and we still win. I am pretty disappointed as its like same story different day. Still gonna cheer our guys on. Hopefully we can grow and rebound from that

  19. This show aggregated me every episode until about 30 minutes into last nights episode, then I understood. This is a dramatic documentary on how the ignorant, weak & cowardly people of the Uninted States will react to a real calamity. I will continue to watch it from this point of view and probably enjoy it, not being bothered by the fact that there were distinctive 'shucking' sounds of a pump shotgun coming from an over and under and not letting it get under my skin that a grown man couldn't start a fire with one match and knife unless he had a gallon of gasoline. I think for many of us, it's good to have shows showing the weakness and stupidity that permeates our culture. It only reinforces my belief that 'bugging in' is the only viable option. One month minimum, preferably several months. Let the masses that these characters represent, remove themselves from the equation before becoming actively involved in the world again.

  22. So as some of you who have been here for a while know I have recently became a AK fanatic giving up most things AR related. And a year, or more, ago I built a EDC carry "pistol" out of a mini Draco. It worked extremely well and missed it the second I sold it so I decided to throw another one together. The last one had to have a maximum length so it would fit into a laptop bag so I could carry it with me into stores. This one is a little different as I will not be using the same bag so it does not have the same length requirements. So instead of running a slant brake, that was pretty rough to shoot, I installed a 4 piece brake and it seems to help a lot. The gas system has been tuned, the trigger has been reworked to remove most of the pre travel and over travel. The trigger is a two stage that is under four pounds. The forearm is made from a cut down Saiga rifle forearm. It is actually 26"+ so I could, if I wanted to, add a vertical forward grip but I am not a fan of them on such a small gun. The only thing I might do is swap out a top cover for one with an A2 sight so I can get a longer sight radius. I welcome any questions. And here are some pictures of what I am dubbing my AKPDW V2.0.

(Still needs to be coated and that's it). ran some blanks through it and she worked perfect. Next, live ammo. Hopefully next weekend. Or I'll head up to strategic edge Monday or Wednesday to try it out if I have free time.

  24. I've been into boating in one form or another for as long as I remember.  However, I got rid of my last boat in 2003 and can count the times I've been on the water on one hand since.  I picked up a pontoon boat about a month ago and I've been spending a lot of time on the lake.  I would never have imagined that so many things could change on the lake in 12 years.  I'm not singling any certain group of people out, in my past I've been a competitive water skier and participated and/or competed in nearly every discipline of watersports.    Ive also been an avid fisherman for my entire life, point being, I understand the frustrations of everyone out there because at one time or another I've been in their shoes.    So, what's the problem?  Seems that everyone on the lake that you are meeting or being overtaken by feel a need to get as close as possible.  I was trolling the other day and had maybe 100' of line out behind the boat and a runabout with a tube being pulled behind it got so close that they snagged my lure.  Pretty sure there was a bass tournament on Saturday, I was in the back of a creek fishing along a bank and a bass boat comes in about half plane dang near washing me up on the bank, he has the nerve to cut in about 100 yards down the bank from me, after fishing for about 5 minutes he's hammer down like a bat out of hell.  The wakeboarders are no better, wakeboard boats throw an obnoxious wake, it's their nature, it's what they are built for.  I always considered it impolite to repeatedly board in the same area when other people are trying to use it.  Not to mention the environmental impact that these boats are having on shoreline erosion.  It seems that everytime I'm on the lake someone does something ignorant that puts me and my family in danger, or just commits some self centered act that detracts from my boating experience.  It's a big lake, there is plenty of room for everyone.  Thanks for listening to my rant.

  25.   People can think I am crazy all they want.  My CCW stays on my side as long as I am awake and goes on the nightstand beside me when I sleep.  If I didn't have dogs in the house at night that I am confident would bark if someone were breaking in, I might even wear it in bed.

  26. So I left out that I found a new Jeep and i'm picking it up tomorrow.   This left me with the task of cleaning out my 14 year old Ranger. I've complained about driving it for years. It's beat up and not much to look at. Frankly I'm surprised I can trade it in While cleaning it out I found the original booklets in the glove box and that sparked the memory of how I got it. I was 22 years old and I was getting married in July. The only credit I had was when I bought my fiance an engagement ring. I didn't even have a career. My first car from when I was a teenager was falling apart. My Dad told me that I needed to get a new car. Something that would last me awhile. My fiance was scared to death that I was taking on a car payment right before the wedding. But my dad insisted, did the haggling and co-signed for me.   I lost my dad back in 2006 to a massive heart attack. So here I am, at 36, just now preparing to trade off this truck that my dad helped me buy. He was always there for me, but that was the last major thing that he helped me with before I went off to learn what adulthood meant.    It's time to move ahead and while I know it's just a truck,.. it's like I'm giving away a piece of my history.   Thanks dad, I miss you.

  28.     Agreed on Street Survivors, probably my favorite Skynyrd album next to Pronounced.    I really like this cover of Honky Tonk Night Time Man. Really just clean professional playing, the guys doing what they do. I remember reading there was a guest guitar player doing some slide work on it, one of their buddies IIRC.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URzFZqMW_2s&list=PL-w1scsQWbsDsYWj7yZeht5LbpaZdVq-z     A cool funky kind of number that always makes me smile.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9d37kT1bOw&list=PL-w1scsQWbsDsYWj7yZeht5LbpaZdVq-z&index=9     And of course Steve Gaines getting to show his stuff. 36. Unless your dealer can handle it with them, Beretta will generally not pay the shipping on a repair, even for a new gun.   I had to pay shipping to get a new NEOS fixed, which it wasn't. Raised some hell, and they paid shipping the second time and it got fixed correctly.   Probably not an issue for their mainstream firearms, which wouldn't need repair in the first place.   - OS

  37. I find it amusing that so many here condemn all of the Islamic world because of the expressions of happiness in the aftermath of the WTC attacks they saw on the news. Yet, when a tragedy strikes some Islamic country, what do they do? Express happiness that the misfortune befell those they dislike. It may not be in the streets for the cameras to see but I think that's mostly a cultural issue. (We only take to the streets to whine about crap.) regardless, I see a whole lotta folks engaging in the same behavior they condemn others for and acting awfully smug while doing it.

  38. Here is a warning for anyone who cannot seem to get this. I will erase their existence here, every post, every blog entry and even their profile will be nothing more than a figment in someone's imagination. I don't want to be an ass, and trust me when I say I am here to help, unfortunately not everyone is going to feel like they are being helped. Want to know what rule I have banned more people under? I have given people vacations for months for violating this single rule.      And I realize that is more than a few words but it breaks down to one word, RESPECT. If you cannot respond to another members post in a respectful way, without attacking, you will be gone. This is the single most important rule we have and is the one rule that is most often violated.   And it is a very, very simple rule to follow yet there are some who cannot seem to get it. I don't expect everyone to agree with everyone else. I expect, and encourage, discussion between opposing parties but it will be done in a respectful manner. If a member decides to become disrespectful to other members or to the site themselves they will be gone, period.   I understand that we are in stressful times but now is the time for us to come together and not attack each other instead of tearing us apart.   People (even some here) are looking for ways to divide us into smaller and smaller groups and I believe this is not by chance. We use all kinds of terms and categories to define us as individuals and that is not going to bring us together. We should all start out with the assumption that everyone else wants to be treated with the same respect that we want to be treated. We should be inviting them and not be attacking those who do not fit in our category because the more allies we have the longer we will be around as gun owners.   And that is because we are in stressful times but think about this before you attack another member. The person you are about to attack does at least have one thing in common with you, guns, and we should all strive to look for common ground rather than attack those that you may not agree with.         Here is the problem. Some people are so miserable or have such a low self esteem that the ONLY way they can make themselves feel better is to attack others. It makes them feel as though they have some sort of authority over those they are trying to correct for what they feel is the wrong use of a "technical" term. I do have one question, I would like to hear their background that makes them qualified to be able to make the determination whether something is a "clip" or "magazine" especially without even knowing what it is they are talking about. Most "experts" do not need to go around letting everyone else know they are an "expert". I could spend all day, every day, correcting everyone who uses can, suppressor or any of the other terms they use other than "silencer". There is but one person that matters when it comes to silencers and that is Hiram Maxim. He was the first to use the term "silencer" making him the expert. Our government also uses the term "silencer" and it would seem that if anyone is a "expert" on silencers it would be the inventor as well as our government and not some random stranger telling me I must use the word "suppressor" because a "silencer" does not do that. I just let it go because NOTHING good will come of it and honestly what would change if I convinced someone to start using silencer instead of "can" or "suppressor".       Our country is on life support, we have millions of Americans who are without a way to support themselves, American children are starving as we send billions to other countries, more veterans are killing themselves everyday than ever before in our country's history, Americans ARE killing each other for no other reason than the color of their skin and our government is not doing anything to fix any of it because of the widespread corruption. And despite being in such dire straights as a country we have nothing better to do than to find the differences to divide us rather than find common ground to unite us. It seems like we are more concerned over whether someone uses HCP or CCW or clip or magazine than the future of this country, ourselves and our children.

  41. Lake etiquette is a thing of the past. I fish JPP a lott and it's been terrible for years and not just pleasure boaters and jet skiers. I have been fishing JPP out of my kayak more this year and it's terrible when it comes to other bass boats fishing around you. I was fishing a hump earlirer this summer out of my yak  and had a bass boat pull up and float past me casting down beside my yak and bringing their crank baits back parralel with my yak. At on point they got within 8' of my yak and fished the same hump around me. Later on that aftenroon I was fishing one of my points and was fighting a fish as a boat was driving by, he put the brakes on and turned right on in and started fishing within 20' of me. I ended up catching 5 fish or so while they were around me, they caught nothing, that did make me feel alittle better :)

  44. "Quote"  It's a big lake, there is plenty of room for everyone.  Thanks for listening to my rant.     Depending on which lake you were on which I am thinking Old Hickory? Yea. it's a big lake but you have to understand that wake boarding, Sking and Wave Runners are not fun things to do without an audience. If they find a pontoon boat with folks on it or Cabin Cruiser or two anchored someplace out of the way in a pocket or back of a creek they will make it unbearable for them by waking them while showing their ass with boom boxes blasting that you can hear 2 miles away. I went through that for to many years to mention. I quit fishing about 3 years ago and sold my Skeeter bass boat and almost all my gear of over 25 years of fishing accumulation. The only peace I could find was at night fishing when all the recreational water crafts were parked. It will slow down some after Labor Day but normally it's mid October before you can fish in peace during the day. good luck with the pontoon..................

  46. Guys I am not going to mess around here, so listen up:   -- There exists NO retail operation that hasn't let someone down, pissed someone off, or otherwise dissatisfied at least one customer.   -- The Internet makes it entirely possible for one unhappy person to malign a business to financially damaging degrees, just because they have an axe to grind.   -- The retail public these days (you and ME) can be some of the most ungrateful, demanding, whiney-assed babies any of us have ever seen.  What seems like no big deal to 9/10 people may be the end of the damn world for that 10th guy and then he starts grinding that axe (See point 2 above).       When it comes to complaining about not being recognized with a smile, or thinking a gun was priced too high, or ammo was too scarce, or someone didn't stroke your fur the right way, really that is all SUBJECTIVE to the person doing the griping.  But for some reason, misery loves company on the Internet and people are all too happy to jump into the dog-pile and ruin the reputation of a business and hurt the finances of the PEOPLE working at, reliant upon, and owning those businesses.   I'm really just sick of it.   And more importantly, when it comes to a paying vendor who SPONSORS this site, I just am not going to allow it.   If you have a legitimate beef with a sponsor of TGO, take it up with them privately.  If you think a sponsor poses a significant risk to the physical or financial well-being of the TGO members at large, present your case to ME PRIVATELY and I will consider it and take action if it is warranted.   But if you're just sour that someone had an item you wanted, at a price you weren't willing to pay... put on your big boy pants and realize that life isn't fair and a business can charge whatever they want.  It's capitalism, baby!  It's what makes America awesome.         Jeez frickin Louise!!!   Can't even have a nice thread congratulating two of our local shops on becoming an even bigger operation to serve the local shooters.  We've gotta sit around and figure out how we can eat our own.

  47. I carry a j-frame because I can get a full firing grip on it while it's in my pocket and don't have to change that grip at all as I draw. Try as I might with my build (6'0" and 150lbs if I've had a good breakfast) and a pair of 501s, I've yet to replicate that with an auto without some compromise. The smallest ones like the LCP are actually the worst for me in that regard. Now, if I'm carrying on my belt - I'm choosing something larger. And by the time a pistol makes it to my hip, I've not got any question about whether or not it's going to work if needed. But, if I'm going to pocket carry - and I do a lot - I'll choose my well worn M&P 340CT every time.
