I'd never try to convince someone they need to carry "______". Carry/ Shoot what you shoot best and are most comfortable with. Personally I'd rather face a threat that has a .45 but doesn't shoot it accurately, than someone with a .380 who shoots it very well. The smaller the caliber, the more accurate you need to be, to get the most out of what you're carrying. Not the same, but similar - why didn't you buy a car that gets the absolute best gas mileage? Probably because you liked / felt more comfortable in the one you did buy. The point is - carry SOMETHING, and be proficient with whatever it is.6 points

I brought this thread back up because one of my favorite authors has done it again. I've posted before about how much I like his People's Republic/ Kelly Turnbull series. This new one is a stand alone novel unrelated to those. The Attack by Kurt Schlichter The signs were all there, but nobody paid attention. They didn't want to. For years they had been sneaking through our porous southern border. Watching, waiting, planning. The day finally came and suddenly 12,000 heavily armed Islamic Jihadist attacked in unison all over the United States. No one was safe. No place was safe. The fanatics mission was to kill as many Americans as possible before they themselves died as martyrs. They were brutal. Torturing, raping and maiming people just because it was fun to them. The recorded much of their savagery and posted it on the internet. The attack lasted three days. In the end 172,000 Americans were dead. They were trying to break us. This book takes place 5 years later. The author is touring the country and collecting the stories of those who survived. He interviews a wide array of people. Politicians, various officials, LE, Military, first responders and just ordinary people who got caught up in the attack. The book is set up so that each chapter is one person's story. The book is fascinating and horrifying. The scariest part is that it could actually happen.3 points

I haven't mentioned the Bersa because I've never owned one. I like them, a friend had one, I think they are well designed and built. I just never owned one, yet. I think 380 is adequate for defense in it's place and if one is comfy with it the Bersa would make a fine EDC. I don't like rotating my carry pistol like some and my current "big" gun is a Firestar 45. My P32 goes with me almost everywhere. I'll sometimes leave it if I'm carrying the 45 but most times it's still in my pocket as a NY reload. I say again, "the best gun to have in a gunfight is the one you have with you".2 points

A couple years back before I taught my son in law learned how much fun Bass fishing is from a Skeeter Bass boat and my daughter said I ruined him she use to have a freezer full of trout all the time and he did most all his Trout fishing in the Caney Fork with great success. You might plan a trip down to the Caney and plan on making a day of it. I thing Tommy(SIL) might be able to give you some tips on that river. Let me know if you want what info I can get from him.2 points

I looked at a Bersa, at the Franklin gun Shop, and almost purchased it. I made the mistake of purchasing a PPKS instead. Had to get rid of the S W PPKS after it went back to the factory for repairs and it never was reliable with several different ammos I tried. The Bersa would have been a better choice and saved me money and time. I see nothing wrong with 380 and I carried a colt Pocket Lite for 10 years. Just want something bigger now and a lot of the 9 MMs are the size of the little pistols. I wanted the Bodyguard 2.0 380 I just purchased to carry in the weak side for backup pistol. It is filling the need very well for me. I have all the revolvers and pistols I need; it is the want to have thing that always gets me Bersaguy.2 points

I started a new post on this as tonight is it, from the way it looks. I know that none of us are holding our breath but we have a chance and who knows if we'll ever get another one. We've got Trump and we need to make some noise and make them uncomfortable just like he does. Take a few minutes and make a couple calls. It takes less time than voting. I realize you probably feel beat to hell, I know I do, but let them hear you. Below is info and a link to the GOA's short video on this. Tonight—before the 1AM Rules Committee markup—is the last chance to get both HPA & SHORT Act in the House version of the reconciliation bill! Taking action takes less than 60 seconds. Have you called yet? Looking to sell my Finn M91/24 “Lotta” rifle. These are sort of unique, as they were the first upgraded M91 models that the Finns reworked. IIRC, they only made 25k of these. This particular example has a heavy stepped barrel made by Bohler Stahl (German interwar period production), Finn 2 piece spliced stock, and the receiver is an 1897 Sestroryetsk Russian production. The rifle is very good condition, and the bore is mirror bright. Included is the Finnish leather sling. I have not fired this rifle but I’m sure it’s a great and accurate shooter like the other various Finnish Mosin Nagants I have owned. $600 or trade for other military rifles.1 point

I'm not sure I agree. Sales will definitely go nuts. Maybe inventory is stacked deep, but I fear prices may also go nuts if manufacturing doesn't increase to meet the new demand.1 point

I have to think your service experience is a function of who works on your firearm. There are good and bad workers in every company, so luck of the draw perhaps. And I am relatively sure, once gun is worked on by one person, its returned to them if it comes back to revisit the repair. I have always measured a company from their service side as where personal interaction happens. I have had several occasions to send a firearm back multiple times. I wont bore y'all with too many, but before I share the topic 320 experience, I'll mention just last month I had 3 returns of an MCX, each time receiving a replacement lower. Their service department has some very unqualified people I fear. As far as 320. I have 3 FCU's currently which have been fine. But in 2018 I bought a new gun and it had a crunchy break around 8lbs. The sear was not sitting square in the FCU and the sear surface was tilted so only part of the striker would engage and its corner was gauling the surface. Also, I found that the trigger bar would hit the bottom of the FCU body as it cammed forward which was adding a couple pounds to the pull weight. This was different to my other FCU's which had ample clearence fo the body to trigger bar. So I think that is in line of the tolerance folks are talking about here. In this case, Sig said go pound sand, we got the gun to fire so too bad so sad for you. Just returned it saying up to 10lbs and passing safety checks is within spec. I take pics of issue and write detailed letter with the pics to describe to them what I am seeing. I cannot find all the pics, but have a side by side FCU comparison I texted to a friend when he was asking about what to look for. So I can share that. If I find the sear pics will add it. But in this pic note how close the left FCU's trigger bar is the the frame, as you begin pulling the trigger it hits the frame as rides long the body. The one of the right (and my others) trigger bar does not hit FCU body at all. You can see variance differences in the cuts and widths throughout, so many changes over time I bet. To say Sig has some poor QC and excessively wide tolerances for what is acceptable....I think that is a bit kind1 point

The safety on the M17 is not on the trigger but is mounted on the slide. Sig didn't want to do it but the military required it. It is one of the reasons Glock lost out. Glock refused to put one on.1 point

I have 5 of the Lee round hopper Auto Prime tools. Bought them when they were cheap mostly from ebay. Looking there now 1 worn out 1 will cost as much as all 5 of mine. Got the EZ Auto Prime with square hopper and the new Auto Prime free with other purchases. Don't care for either. Got the Auto Bench Prime that I don't like loading primers in the new triangle safety hopper. But when set up it loads fast. I had 1 problem while fire forming. I'd fire a round and the gun would breech open. Reading up on as much as I could find the rim of a 303 is thicker than a 410 case/hull. Others have sanded the head stamp to reduce the thickness. Letters can barely be seen on some and none on others. They are using federal large pistol primers mostly/ in those. Some having luck using CCI LP primers. Primers have different heights, Fed .117, CCI .118, Rem .119, Win .121. Wish I could find the height of other brands.1 point

Bambu Labs P1S with the 4 bay feeder is a great machine/value. It comes with their software to print files and I haven't had any issues with it. I use Fusion360 for designing. The X1C gives you a couple of extra nice to have's but I have the P1S. For me it is one of the easiest machines that just works. No real tinkering, etc to make it work right. Their filament is also good. https://us.store.bambulab.com/products/p1s?from=home_web&id=5838558747395072081 point

P365 is going to be 23-24 ounces loaded. Bodyguard 2.0 is 16 ounces loaded. And it’s still almost 1/2 inch shorter. That means a lot in a pocket of gym shorts with a flimsy drawstring. I’m not in any way saying something bigger doesn’t work in that application, but the two side by side aren’t even comparable when it comes to overall size and weight. It’s about trade offs…smaller size and weight, a better grip and ergonomics, and more shootability vs. a more powerful caliber.1 point

Life is a series of compromises, right? If lowering your odds w/ a mouse gun is unacceptable for the sake of convenience, so is carrying a pistol instead of a shotgun or rifle.1 point

Back in the 60s, my father witnessed a shooting that resulted when two upstanding gentlemen had a disagreement. One pulled his .25 Auto and shot the other one point blank six times in the chest. The victim grabbed an elderly lady whom my father said began “singing a tune” (I bet she was!) and used her as a shield before his former comrade could shoot him a seventh time. The guy didn’t die, at least not right then. Perhaps a .40 or a .357 would have netted the same results, but I doubt it. The point is we can say many men have died by .22 or .25, or elephants and cape buffalo have been put down with a 7mm Mauser, but that doesn’t mean they won’t kill you before succumbing to their injuries. An unnecessarily marginal round just seems like a lousy idea, especially with the options available nowadays.1 point

By the way, there are substantial differences between a full-house .38 Special cartridge and a .380ACP cartridge in terms of ballistic performance. The .38 Special killed a lot of people over the years that it was the cartridge of choice for law enforcement. It wasn't unusual for people to shoot "down loaded" (minor power) .38 Special rounds and cops back in the day weren't always using hollow points. Many used dum-dum rounds like you'd use for pistol competitions, or soft lead point rounds. I know because my grandfather was a cop in the 1960's and 70's and I inherited a lot of his stuff, including a mountain of ammo and there wasn't a single hollow point in any of it. You also lose muzzle velocity with a snubnose barrel. The guy in your question was lucky, but ammo choice could have carried a big role in how ineffective those five shots were.1 point

This is one of those questions that has to be answered with data, otherwise it will be a bunch of nonsensical statements like "I wouldn't want to get shot with either of them!". And let's face it, no one wants to be shot with any sort of gun so we can just get that out of the way now. Bottom line up front, all other things being equal a 9x19mm cartridge will have higher muzzle velocity, better penetration, better expansion, and be able to better overcome barriers such as clothing, wallboard, vehicle sheet metal or glass. There are too many small and reliable 9mm micro-compact handguns today for me to give a second thought to carrying a .380 ACP. The days of having to choose small cartridges to get small guns are past us. Here's a ballistic test video that I don't hate or completely disagree with:1 point

We have the technology to test things to failure. You can use robots, fixtures, and other automation to simulate a wide variety of conditions in a repeatable fashion for thousands of repetitions all under the watchful eye of cameras. Sooner or later, someone has to offer up one of these "faulty" P320s and subject it to the full battery of the scientific method. Once that happens, we'll have the answers we all seek. Until then, we've got nothing more than armchair engineers throwing shade at the P320 and 99% of them are doing it because controversy translates to monetization on social media.1 point

The recall was a drop safety issue. They corrected that YEARS ago and anyone who still has a pre-recall gun in pre-recall state has no excuse for their gun being in that condition. The new claims are that some of these guns somehow go off on their own. I am very skeptical of it and never had any problems out of my P320 and it sat for months in my safe, holstered with a loaded chamber, and it never fired on its own. We may find that there are some tolerance stacking issues that affect a small percentage of these guns, or we may find out that human beings will almost always blame something other than themselves or their garbage-tier holsters when a negligent discharge occurs. I'm still waiting to see this problem (a.) reproduced and (b.) thoroughly analyzed. So far it hasn't happened.1 point

Thanks for the commentary on the "Crisis" books. I have seen them and been intrigued, just haven't bought any yet. Have far too many lying around now that I'll probably never have enough time to read before I'm gone. Plus, I just started re-reading some of my older stuff. William W. Johnstone's Ashes series, and Jerry Ahern's Survivalist books. Also have A. American's Going Home, and Joe Nobody's books in line. Both are quite dated now, but still enjoyable for me. If you want some sheer trashy fun, try Mack Maloney's Wingman series. I can't believe I actually once bought the Wingman stuff. lol.1 point

I just finished "Crisis" by Kurt Schlichter. This is the fifth book in his Kelly Turnbull AKA People's Republic series. Once again I have to praise Schlichter for an edge of your seat action thriller. I was captured by the story and breezed through it in just three days. For those unfamiliar with the scenario, these stories take place in the near future. The U.S. has had a Civil War in which its Conservatives vs Liberals. In the end, the country is split into two separate nations, The United States and the new ultra liberal People's Republic. These novels follow the adventures of Spec Ops operator Kelly Turnbull as he deals with special problems in this new world. This latest book "Crisis" is a prequel going back to the days just before the split. The country is on a razor's edge as both States and people are choosing their side. Either Red or Blue. Cities are being taken over and open warfare is erupting between the two sides. At this stage its a very active, but yet undeclared Civil War. The plot revolves around Merrick Crane III. A wealthy, powerful and totally evil leftist who claims to be working to free our nation from oppression. In reality, he's doing everything in his power to bring about a Civil War and set himself up as dictator of his vision of the new America. Turnbull is out to stop him. I've mentioned this series before in this thread. I'm a huge fan these books. They're well written, action packed and full of surprises. But the thing that really grabs you is the fact that its entirely plausible.1 point
