  2. Yuup.   Big government control freak Republicans are no more a friend of the Constitution, or individual thought (or liberty) than a big government Democrat...they are all just progressives who think that the government is the answer to every problem (when in reality it's usually the cause of the problem).

  5. hardknox, that is funny....   Thread creep.  Check this out.  Somebody with lots of time on their hands...lol     Is Gilligan the Devil? Years ago, CBS had a popular little series called "Gilligan's Island". There is, however, a dark secret about this "comedy" you may never have realized. The island is a direct representation of Hell. Nobody on the island wants to be there, yet none are able to leave. Each one of the characters represents one of the 7 deadly sins: Ginger represents LUST - she wears skimpy outfits, is obsessed with her looks, and is a borderline nymphomaniac. Mary Ann represents ENVY - she is jealous of Ginger's beauty. The Professor represents PRIDE - he is an annoying know-it-all. Mr. Howell represents GREED - no explanation needed. Mrs. Howell represents SLOTH - she has never lifted a finger to help on any of their escape plans. The Skipper represents two sins: GLUTTONY - again, no explanation needed and ANGER - he violently hits Gilligan on each show. This leaves Gilligan. Gilligan is the person who put them there. He prevents them from leaving by foiling all of their escape plots. Also, it is HIS island. Therefore, Gilligan is SATAN. Crazy? He does wear red in every episode.

  7. For what it's worth, I bought Glocks from dealers that were LE trade ins. They came as pistols with one mag in a padded envelope. There were tons of police trades that didn't have boxes with them. People move. People put stuff in the attic.   Trade based on the character of the man you're dealing with, not his lack of factory boxes.
    2 points
  8. Why is that a red flag? Lots of people don't save the factory stuff, or they lose it, or they buy guns used without it. If you ask to see his TN state ID and sign a bill of sale and he declines, or if you have some other reason to believe he is shady then by all means decline the deal, otherwise you should be good to go. But if you insist on running a check you can call your local PD and ask if they will run it for you. Or you can go to any ffl dealer and ask them to do a TICS transfer for you which includes a check for stolen.

  11. My daughter has her own dog, my wife has her own, and I haven't really had my own "my dog" since I lost my pit bull Princess when I was a kid. She died from heartworms and it destroyed me! This little American Bulldog mix reminds me a lot of Princess minus the color scheme. I named him Roman and lemme tell ya, I LOVE him and he LOVES me! :) :) :) As you'll see, he loves to sleep right now at a tad over 5 weeks old. And he doesn't care if it's comfortable for me or not, I just have to deal with it LOL. Edit: The older he's gotten, I believe he's just a standard pit bull. Not really sure except for appearance on how to know for sure, but I am not going to get him tested, as it doesn't matter to me, I love him because he's my dog.

  12. As of 8:00 PM this evening, I just completed my 11th day of being tobacco free.  It is all downhill at this point.   I gave up a 14 year smoking habit 11 years ago only to switch to a can to 1.5 cans per day of smokeless tobacco.  While I was going through some flu-like symptoms at the end of Feb, I told myself that there would be no better time to quit since I already felt like s***.  I finished my last dip on Feb 28 at 8:00 PM and haven't looked back since.

Most of the dogs we've had were having none of that! :) My wife was reminding me of all the extra work that puppies are versus getting an older one, but the bonding with the family is worth the work to me. I've been driving home on lunch to check on the lil feller and he gets so excited when I walk in the door.....after he gives his vicious puppy growl to let me know he's on guard

[quote name="McAllyn" post="1126886" timestamp="1395236459"]If it were my company, I'd have sold those 2 pallets at cost for a few reasons: 1) It'd sell quickly and I'd make my money back 2) Customers would realize there's better places to buy than the "armslist resellers" 3) I'd be stealing customers from the resellers 4) I'd be drawing in customers who would possibly buy other items with better profit margins 5) I'd generate positive attitudes about my business and potentially generate repeat customers Looks like what EW is doing is having the same effects... just exactly opposite. Says the owner, "If I was out of soup, it would be a dollar too"

  30. If this were President Bush standing at the podium and saying that these men were being awarded the MoH due to the fact that when they performed their acts of heroism, they were overlooked for racial reasons, it couldn't see it being an issue.  It would be the same thing it is today- doing the right thing even if years later.  But, because of all the racial undertones real or imagined with President Obama, we have debates like this thread.  Never mind that this initiative was part of the 2002 Defense Appropriations bill.  Passed in 2001, a year when the President was a Republican, the House of Representatives was controlled by Republicans and the Senate was a 51/49 split between Democrats (including an independent that caucused with them) and Republicans.  The leading thoughts that this is some racially biased thing President Obama is doing don't pass the smell test.   The military is representative of society and back then, a sizable portion of our country was racist.  To think that those thoughts weren't part of the beliefs for Army leadership who were raised in that environment isn't realistic  I can absolutely believe that not being white or being Jewish instead of Christian made getting them the recognition they deserved more trouble than it was worth for some.  And by some I mean those who had to process these awards several echelons removed from the units these men served in while under fire.  If their race was enough to be a factor in denying them the award, it's enough of a factor to be mentioned when we correct that.  People should be proud that we looked back and publicly said said "this was wrong" and got these men the recognition they deserved.    I get that there are probably hundreds more of every race/ethnicity/skin color that aren't recognized when they should be.  Garlin Conners is hardly alone in this regard.  But I challenge anyone to look at this list, click through the names, read the stories and tell me who among them may have been awarded the MoH for their race, religion or skin color instead of their actions that day after looking at their heroism without the racism of the days they served in clouding peoples views.

  32.   There is no time limit for Congress to make the recommendation.  As to these awardees, I'm curious as to the process for their MoH.  Surely some of them were recommended by their Chain of Command during whatever the time limits were in WWII and Korea, only to be downgraded or dismissed due to race.  So I'm under the assumption that some, if not all, met that criteria.   Here's my deal though.  I know the awards system is screwed up, and it is personality driven.  Everyone who has been in the military and especially those who have fought in war know this.  I recall a buddy who left cover to pull a fellow soldier who was critically wounded behind cover and provide him treatment.  He was shot while pulling his buddy to cover, but was still able to not only render him livesaving aid to a severe wound, but he himself returned fire on the enemy and assisted in killing every attacker from a superior sized force.... all with a gunshot wound.   His Bronze Star V was downgraded to an ARCOM V.  WTF?  Yeah, it's upsetting.  Even more upsetting when you see POGs who sit on a FOB get Bronze Stars like candy.  So when I see that there are heroes from past conflicts that have displayed such valor to rise to the level of MoH status only to learn they were denied such valor because of skin pigment I become enraged.  So very effing enraged.  I don't care about the media or Obama.  Obama can try to take credit for righting the wrongs of the past, but I know better.  He had no more to do with this than if any other President was sitting in the White House.  He only got the honor of presenting the award and being in the same room as these last three survivors.    When I saw this thread before I wasn't going to comment on it, but it is upsetting.  You're saying that you agree they deserve the award, but in the same post you claim they only got it because of race.  Like I said before, the same could be said about every single white recipient of the Medal, if you're suggesting that the recent awards are exclusionary to potential white awardees (such as Lt Connor) and therefore the award is based on race.  Well I could say the same about white recipients during the WWII and Korean era if the award was exclusionary to potential black awardees.  That means the MoH back then was based on race.   I don't see it that way, however.  The way I see it, to draw that conclusion is taking away the focus of the sacrifice those brave folks made for our country.  I don't think there is a single MoH recipient who wouldn't want to see everyone who deserved a MoH get awarded, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or gender.  To make this a race issue takes something away from those awardees, and it is no different than the media making this a race issue.  You took the bait from CNN it seems.

  33. OP didn't get the story quite right. Obama doesn't get to pick the recipients as others have pointed out, congress does.    "The presentation came after Congress in a 2002 defense bill ordered a review of thousands of war records to determine whether Latino and Jewish veterans were denied the nation’s highest military decoration because of discrimination."   But it is a little worse, OP makes it sound as though Obama is doing some white/black thing and injecting race. But what Obama said was a little different:   "This ceremony reminds us of one of the enduring qualities that makes America great," Obama said. "No nation is perfect. But here in America, we confront our imperfections and face a sometimes painful past, including the truth that some of these soldiers fought and died for a country that did not always see them as equal." Which is largely true. There are plenty of reasons not to like this particular president without making things up. Here's the worst thing of all: sure Lt. Garlin got the screwjob but a lot of people get the screwjob. Go through the list of recipients and pick out one or a dozen that didn't deserve the medal. In general I believe you should try to pull yourself up instead of dragging others down.

  34. I moved here from CO and watched the state go from conservative/republican to a liberal/democrat majority.   The issue is more and more people do not have what it takes to go out in this world and do what ever it takes to become self sufficient. As the economy worsens, the number of people like this increases., as the standard of living decreases, those type of people increase.   Talk to young people today.    Lots of them have simply given up before they even got started. They had visions, taught by the older generations who raised them, of being able to make a great living etc.....All they talk about now is how life isn't fair, I was lied to, all I can find is a min. wage part time job, the older generations screwed up this country and stole my future etc... They want nothing more than to see wealth redistribution and most vote democrat. Around 65% and this generation is as big as the baby boomers.    Also, the younger generation are more diverse and socially liberal, so when republicans rant about conservative social issues, it turns the young away and they will not vote for them even if they like what else they have to say.    If the trend continues, there is no way to stop it as the old die off and the younger generation become a bigger percentage of the vote. They have the numbers. Some say we have already reached the tipping point. I don't think so personally.

  39. Good ol' Dub Taylor, one of the best character actors to ever bless the screen.  You might know him from hundreds of western flavored movies, including his roles as Cannonball in the B-movies, C.W. Moss' father in Bonnie and Clyde and the town preacher in the opening scenes of The Wild Bunch.  I got to spend some time back in the '70s with him and his son, Buck, who played Newly on Gunsmoke.  There's no finer pair of gentlemen you'll ever meet.  Dub's gone on to his reward now, and Buck is a highly respected western artist.

  46. Quick search on gun broker looks like $210 is a good price.  Looks like they have gone up quite a bit in the past couple of years.  More importantly, if you have given your word to pay an agreed upon price then you should complete the transaction, regardless of what it is actually worth.

  47.       I love this stereotype. Do many of us do ok finanically, sure.  I think you will find that many of us are as discriminating as anyone when it comes to guns and ammo.  The people that are buying the ammo at this price aren't "gun" people.  They are simply people who have a gun and may happen to have a little more money (or not).  It's the same in Franklin, Nashville, Knoxville, or anywhere else.     By this standard, everyone who lives in or near Memphis is a drug dealing murderer.

  48. Well the burden of what to do with it is now off my shoulders. I gave it back to him after I learned that his youngest son Casey had been hoping someday his father would pass the rifle down to him. Butch called me this morning and asked if he could have it back because he found out that Casey wanted it but never would ask him straight out for it. I was more than glad to give it back to him so he could pass it down to Casey. I think he is going to take it over to Casey's home soon as he left here. Problem solved and no ones feelings hurt I hope. Thank all of you for your help in identifying the gun and it's origin. Now if I run into an opportunity to get another one I will at least have an idea what I would be getting......
