  2. I’ve been a police officer for 11 years, please understand that the actions of this one man do not represent the feelings of 99.9999% of law enforcement officers. The Officers I work with would be knocking each other over to get inside that building and engage that threat. The public duty doctrine states that governmental entities have a duty to protect the populace as a whole, unless a special relationship is established. In this instance, a special relationship was established when those citizens relied upon that Officer for protection. He is liable, the department is liable. Termination and prosecution would be my determination. He’s a disgrace. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. I have a relative that said ALL veterans have PTSD and cannot be trusted around children. This same person has said the only people who should have guns are members of government. That officer is a coward and is why we should not be forced to rely on police to protect ourselves. He knew kids were being shot and he did nothing. I would be on board with any lawsuits against him as well as criminal charges if it can be proven his dereliction resulted in any injuries or deaths. Send a clear message to those being paid to protect our kids, if you refuse to do your job you will be held accountable. I can promise you I, because I have, will run towards gunfire. If my body has to soak up some rounds to save children so be it.

  5. Yep. Police arrest criminals and investigate crimes. There ought to be standards on these so called resource officers. I don’t think picking someone who is at retirement age every expected to have to engage an aggressor. This was likely easy duty in his mind. Sad. He failed. IMHO, he lacked the will and courage to act. He had to know kids were dying with his inaction. We need the “soldier/Marine/warrior” mentality to confront these aggressors, not over-the-hill deputies. 6. The BATFE wrote an opinion in direct opposition of yours. I'd rather have a shake weight than a bumpstock for my own use, but this proposed ban is just one more step in the direction of banning all guns. Just a wild guess here, but don't be surprised to see a shooting in the not too distant future where the shooter has an ar15 pistol with a brace. You eat an elephant one bite at a time. It is against the law to kill people. I've not heard that mentioned one time since the shooting.

  10. One of the thing that strongly concerns me is that school shootings by kids in the US reinforce to our overseas enemies how easily those things are accomplished. I fear it is only a matter of time until we see a Beslan-type assault on an elementary school by jihadists who have some training and who are ready to lose their lives in the process. A school where the SRO is afraid to engage a lone teenager isn't going to fare well in a situation like that. Look at Israel. You see terror attacks there -- with guns, knives, bombs, rockets -- on a regular basis. But the last shooting at a school in Israel was March 2008. Their schools are not soft targets.

  11. I agree this is true of some Republicans, but I wouldn't generalize to say this true of all of them. It's certainly true of President Trump. He was a gun-banning Democrat when it was expedient for him, then he became a Republican when that was more expedient. Now he's moving in the other direction. Trump's only guiding principle is to do what is best for him at the moment. He will help us on RKBA when he perceives it as beneficial to him, but I wouldn't look to him for any consistent help on this issue.

  12. Resource officers were put in school primarily to keep this kind of stuff from happening or at least minimize the carnage. It does no good to "Protect and Serve" when you fail to do the right thing. This is a prime example of why you can't depend on others for the protection of you and your family. Let me say I am a avid supporter of LE but this is a travesty and while I'm not a lawyer and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night there has to be something to charge this dipstick with if these reports are true and correct. This individual should not under any circumstances go unpunished if these claims are true. A man has to know his limitations as someone once said and if you can stand by and watch kids being murdered while you are armed and do nothing it says something about a person's grit...or lack of it. And as a disclaimer let me say I am no hero. I'm just an average guy that was raised but parents that taught me right from wrong and have a moral compass because of it. I have put myself in danger more than once to save others cause I instinctively act to the best of my ability. I could never have stood by and did nothing in that situation no matter how scared I might have been.

  13. This is exactly what they mean when they talk about affairs being potential blackmail material. That he took the pictures without her knowledge and transferred them to another device means he thought he might need them later. “Clocked in for overtime” is a pretty good euphemism.

  17. Several companies are severing ties with the NRA. If you use their products/services, please let them know your opinion. I submitted the email below to National and got a quick response back that it would be "submitted to management for consideration". Dear National, I have been an executive elite member for about 12 years. I regret to inform you that I will no longer be doing business with your company because you have decided to cave into public pressure and disassociate yourself with the NRA. I don't feel that businesses should have a voice on social issues, but I respect your right to do so. I have the same right not to do business with you and I will choose to exercise it. I have a feeling that you may be getting several million more emails just like this. I've enjoyed working with your company and it will take some time to get use to using another company. Good luck in the future. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/nra-members-wont-get-any-more-enterprise-rental-car-discounts-2018-2 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/02/23/boycottnra-enterprise-omaha-bank-end-gun-lobby-deals-as-boycott-movement-gains-steam/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. I posted this in another topic, but thought it'd be relevant here too. I called the NRA membership rep and they're offering lifetime membership for around 50% off. The regular membership went from $1,500 to $750 and distinguished membership (+65 and disabled veteran) went from $750 to $375. As I said on the other post, my numbers may be slightly off, but close enough. All you have to do is call in and ask for the discount. I don't know how long it'll be going on. Please pass along to anyone you think would be interested. Great way to make a donation and get a lifetime membership at the same time. ^^^Disclaimer- I don't work for the NRA and only know the details I'm passing along from my call with them a few days ago. They tried to get me to upgrade membership at the end of the call.^^^ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, the price is a little high but not outrageous based on past prices and availability. 26. Before my kids started sports I was heavy into tournament fishing...they are 21 and 22 now so it has been awhile. I used to be very satisfied with Berkley Powerline Fireline (Braid) and P-Line (Mono) for light line applications. Braid requires quality rod eyes so as not to cut/groove them and the P-Line is prone to twist on open face spinners if your take up bearing isn't lubed well. Both have little to no stretch, excellent knot strength when using polimar knots. Just don't set the hook too hard or you will hurt your wrist due to the no stretch part. That was probably more info than you wanted/needed but I got on a roll.

  28. I also think you are way off base on this, if he would not of had a bumpstock, then he could have used controlled fire instead of pray and spray. I say could have because at this point we do not know, but I believe I read where he took these guns out and shot them before the event. I do know as a fact, that I personally can successfully engage targets more effectively using controlled fire vs full auto. And have been warned more than a couple times on the range not to use auto because the range was not cleared for auto even though my selector switch was on semi the entire time. I don't have any use for a bumpstock, binary trigger or any other ammo wasting gadget, so I don't have any, but if we allow the ATF or the feds to start regulating due to perceived "intent" of the law we will lose all weapons because make no mistake about it, the intent is to disarm the populace.

  29. It is quite clear to me now, that we(2nd amendment gun rights supporters) are to the republican party as african americans are to the democratic party...Every election cycle, the left promises the moon to the AA's, and then after the votes are cast, they throw them under the bus...The right preaches support of the 2nd A to get the votes, and then when things get difficult, under the bus wheels we go also..I'm going to start building my collection of AR's from here on out, I've had my fill of this ####.. This isn't some 4D chess move crap, we just got tossed under the bus wheels by Trump... Crow is on the menu at Someotherguy's house this week..

  30. No one knows how they will handle being involved in a shooting until it happens. If the reports are correct this Officer failed to engage. I would assume he got scared since he has offered no explanation and resigned. (Retired is more accurate if what I am seeing is correct) He has to live with what he did. This is another reason we have to be able to have guns to engage violent criminals. There have been SCOTUS rulings that the Police are not required to or responsible for our protection. We must be able to protect ourselves in seconds, not minutes.

  31. And just to be clear on the 1911, I've owned quite a few of them. Just don't own one right now. I do love the fact that I can tinker with them. Whenever I've brought one home the very first thing that happenes is that it winds up on my table with everything but the sights stripped out of it. I love doing that. And it makes it worse. The sickness runs deep!

  36. I honestly have been saying this for awhile. Pick and age that a teen becomes an adult and stick with it. But it has to be across the board, don't ask an 18yo to join the military, get issued a weapon and go and fight and die for his/her country if they can't enjoy the same privileges back home. If they decide 18, 21, 25, then so be it, make up your freaking mind about what makes an adult already.

  37. Yeah, ummm... I'm assuming you have a competent real estate attorney working on your behalf (you should, they're cheap). (S)He can answer the question knowledgeably (hopefully), and aid in drawing up any contracts of easements, or other stipulations, to be notarized, and signed at the closing. Personally, I would try to avoid the situation as much as possible (purchase the land, move the building, etc.) Just asking for trouble. That's not to say it can't work out, but... Just my 2-bits.

  40. Well we know what won’t work; a gun ban. There are just too many AR’s (and other guns they would try to ban) out there. A person that wanted to do this could get a gun. Especially someone that had the financial resources of the Vegas mass murderer. I watched Senator Bill Nelson from Florida call for gun control last night. He said he was a supporter of the 2nd amendment and a hunter, but that an AR is made for killing not for hunting. So apparently Senator Nelson thinks the 2nd amendment protects his right to hunt. That is pretty sad itself; but the fact that he is a lawmaker and doesn’t understand the United States Constitution makes it worse. Yes, the AR is a civilian version of the M16 that was engineered and designed as an assault rifle for killing people in combat. It is also a very effective weapon is engaging an active shooter in our children’s school or protecting your family from violent attacks (that law enforcement cannot protect them from). Some terrorists are using vehicles instead of guns or bombs. Some are using knives. Those work also. The core problem is family values, morals, religious beliefs, and no fear of legal prosecution. Many people seem to think our constitutional rights keep the Police from getting involved if no crime has been committed. I strongly disagree. Police involvement doesn’t mean the nut case won’t go off the rails and kill anyway. If they know they are going to die they don’t fear the Police or anyone else. But it may get someone involved that can make a difference. We recently had a post on here about a suspicious person. When I was a cop I would have ran the plate number and went to his house and had a talk. Would he have to talk to me? Of course not. But we would be way ahead of where we were, and on our way to being able to take some action. It didn’t surprise me that the kids knew this guy was a nut case, as I’ve said before, ask your kids who the nut jobs are in their school and they will tell you. What did concern me a little was the calmness these kids showed in telling what happened. When I was a cop (many years ago) kids would be very emotional after witnessing a violent act and had trouble talking about it. Our kids need help, but that’s a separate issue from mass murderers. Our schools and workplaces need the ability to engage and kill an active shooter. Not have to wait until he gets done killing people and takes his own life.

  41. When are we going to get serious about school security? If children are our most precious resource, why do we box them up and leave them largely unprotected? Walmart has better security than a lot of schools. It's pitiful. Would a police car sitting in front of the building have sent him somewhere else? Would someone monitoring security cameras be able to call in the cavalry in enough time to catch it before it started? How did someone with no business being there even get within shouting distance of the building?

  42. Access to firearms has never been more restricted that at the present time. AR15 has been on the civilian market for over 50 years and is one of the most popular firearms in history, probably millions to 10's of millions of them in the US. Obviously, something changed other than access to firearms; if there was a correlation then these incidents would be less likely now, not more. The AR came on the market in 1963, at a time when there were virtually no gun laws other than restrictions on machineguns, 5 years before the 1968 GCA. What has happened in the time period since then, lets reason together: We as a nation have practically destroyed the nuclear family, eviscerated and emasculated the role of the Church in society and replaced chivalry and self-sacrifice with victimhood and narcissism. We abort viable pregnancies due to inconvenience, and promote offing the elderly and ill if we deem their quality of life substandard. We allow our children to play video games that utilize the exact same psychological conditioning used to make our Vietnam Vets more efficient killers (and caused an explosion of PTSD casualties, you all know that more vets have killed themselves since the war than died in it). Instead of mothers and fathers raising their sons and daughters to be ladies and gentlemen, we tell the kids they might be homosexuals or misgendered, and instead of disciplining and training them we put them on Prozac and Ritalin and give them Facebook to experience the insecurities of puberty on a macro scale, all alone on powerful mind altering medications with no morals and no father to smack them and no mother to hug them. Short of a revival (and I do mean the Christian sort), I don't know what can turn this around, we've wasted a generation, maybe two now, and I'm staying armed and vigilant because the last thing that's gonna make anyone safer is taking away the ability to meet these threats head on. I'm sorry to say I don't see this getting better anytime soon, but will continue to pray about it, and do what I can to influence my children and other young people that I can in appositive way...

  43. As many have stated I would definitely go to a range and let her try several different pistols and not just revolvers. My wife was adamant about a revolver just because she had shot them growing up. Didn't even want to try all the various semi-autos we had. When we moved to TN we had to take the HCP (Ga didn't require a class). Two things that were fantastic from that class: 1. The instructor was a lady and explained things very differently than I would and my wife connected. 2. To qualify we just used their Ruger Mark IIIs. My wife fell in love with that gun. Let's just say she now has an assortment of semi-autos. She carries a Walther mainly because it is very comfortable for her small hands. But at the moment she is in NC and has a Glock G26. And sometimes she will carry a S&W 38 revolver. Let her try many guns and my main advice is to leave her alone in the decision. Us guys tend to want to tell them what they need. Just be careful, every gun I bring home is subject to be classified by my wife as "mine". HAHA. Enjoy the search.

  45. Thanks. I blame this on my family. My Dad was Army, his older brother was a South Carolina state trooper. I've been a cop the last 22 years, my brother joined the Marine Corps. My oldest son is leaving next month for the Marine Corps, and my youngest boy (17) has his mind set on a career with the Army Rangers. I don't guess we'll be breaking this line anytime soon.
