  1. The NRA deserves our support. As a matter of fact, if they fail, we don't have a chance. You will never agree with all of their moves and stances. Heck, I never agree with myself a 100% of the time.

  2. If you didn't have any changes in dependent status? That seems way too high for a refund. Makes me wonder if your employer adjusted how much was withheld after tax reform was passed. I remember my first paycheck was a copy of 2017 from income tax withholding, but once the systems were updated with the new tax changes, I saw the surplus hitting my paychecks. My *all things money* spreadsheet shows I'll get refund of less than $100. After I tally up investment dividends and capital gains, I'll end up owing. That's the way I like it, not giving the government an interest free loan.

  3. FN America has announced that the 509 family has expanded to include the new 15-round FN 509 Midsize as well as a black 509 Tactical. The Midsize is dimensionally similar to the Glock 19. FN 509 Midsize Specs: Check back with me sometime next week. I'll be able to offer some first-hand thoughts on it, as I have one on the way.

  6. That will be the downfall of the 2A, too many gun owners willing to give away their rights piece by piece. Whether you agree or not with a piece of legislation, ban of certain products, or if you will not be personally affected by it, if it's anti-2A you need to fight it. There is no room for those that want to work for "sensible" gun laws in our ranks. Laws only affect the law abiding, period. Criminals will be able to commit their crimes no matter what laws they break because they are criminals. Laws should be aimed at those who break them, mandatory sentencing, no mental health waivers for those using firearms to commit crimes.

  8. Thanks for the replies and advice folks. I'll tread cautiously. hipower. It's my understanding, and I trust I'll be corrected if I'm wrong... When Glock first introduced their handguns onto the world, a primary aim was towards the Military. Lore has it that the Austrian Military wanted a handgun magazine that would not accidentally drop out in the snow and be lost, therefore the original Glock magazines were what we here in the US refer to as "NDF" or Non-drop free also known as NFML or Non-fully metal lined. We here in the US clamored for a magazine that would in fact "Drop Free" and this led to the FML or Fully Metal Lined drop free magazines and the continuing evolution into the Glock magazines as we now know them. I could be totally wrong on this. But my first Glock magazine were these and/or like these. I actually cut the grips (1/2 quarter sized semi-circles on each side of the lower grip frame) of a few my own Glock to facilitate a quick snatch/grab to manually remove the magazines. I still find myself ripping the mags out when doing a hurried reload at times. Many years of repetitive practice I guess.

  10. Those magazines used to be worth quite a bit. I haven't looked in a long time. CA, NJ, MA, etc have passed so many things about 10 round or less who really knows. I definitely would have to look at the laws. I personally wouldn't ship to a few states. At this stage in my life I don't need the worry.

  11. The size of the 92 prevents me from thinking of using it for concealed carry. I expect it would shoot similar to my M9 pistols. As said by Hipower, it's time to accept that I've acquired a safe queen. However I do get some pleasure from having it in the safe. It's much more enjoyable to look at than another Shield or Glock.

  12. https://www.ammoland.com/2019/01/pro-2a-nra-haters-fyi-for-you/#axzz5cPDspQQk This is an interesting article with some valuable background info on the current situation between the NRA and Trump: "And…love Trump or hate him, regardless of anything else he has done, if it were Hillary putting 2, possibly 3 judges on the USSC bench, the 2A would be dead in 10 years. That’s why NRA went all in with him. Not because he was a philosophically pure candidate on all of 2A, but because he was willing to put pro 2A judges on the bench, and because he could win. No one else on our side could, and the alternative—a Hillary presidency—would have been disastrous." The author of the article also offers some useful elaboration in the comments section. Yes, there are some idiotic remarks in the comments section...because it's the comments section. His most valuable point: RKBA organizations and supporters needs to find ways to work together instead of fighting among themselves. The anti-freedom groups are totally willing to collaborate with each other. Worthwhile reading. Cheers, Whisper

  13. Picked this one up today, Beretta 92G Tennessee limited edition. Had no idea they were made until a fellow board member posted a pic, and then helped me find one after my searches came up empty!!

  17. Pretty good article. Both of my older grand children, age 12 and 15 compete in 4-H competitions and are capable of putting venison on the table also. The 15 year old is my only grand daughter. It is very simple, teach them when they are young, whether it be the Bible or gun safety and they will not depart from it. It was driven into my head at an early age, started hunting by myself at 9, but dad knew I was safe and I knew there would have been some severe consequences if I had been unsafe with a gun. I am retired now, and I like to fish, and hunt, but there is something unique about going out and shooting clays or shooting targets with a pistol. Nothing compares it to me. The smell of gunpowder and the satisfaction that I can cut a card with a pistol of rifle some of time anyways is very enjoyable. Take a kid shooting, teach them gun safety, if you don't have a kid or grand kid nearby, find a single mom or a family that doesn't have the time or desire to shoot. I think all kids should at least have a chance to learn how to safely shoot and then let them decide if they want to continue. Just like I did with my son for sports, I told him I would support him and pay for the equipment as long as he wanted to and had fun. I hate to see parents push their kids into sports for their own ego.

  18. When I purchased my G23 in the mid 80's, I also bought spare mags. I was sent overseas for 4 years and when I returned, my mags were worth more than my Glock. I sold all my mags and purchased some 10 round ones, which by then were the drop free variety, win-win. Once the ban was lifted, I replaced them with standard capacity mags.

  19. Not yoga pants, but I will confess thtrying on a pair of my wife's maternity pants. Fit pretty damn good. They should market them to potbellied men. I guess that's what overalls are for.

  20. Honestly I think just about anything you cook up in 5.56x45 is gonna be pretty bright out of a barrel that short. Maybe a combo of reduced load with a better flash suppressor...

  21. I was thinking the same thing, Runco. My wife just came in to ask what I was doing and I told her I was looking at the latest Sears Toy Catalog. She just shook her head and left. Frowning a bit, I must tell you. As far as this Sig catalog...it is very much mind boggling to me. Way too much info for an old man to absorb this early on a dreary Saturday morning. lol I did find the grip modules for the 320 pistols, and the laser modules especially caught my eye. A 320 compact with an integral laser is very, very interesting. A lot of information, pretty awesome presentation package too.

  22. That catalog brought back memories of strolling through the toy section of the Sears & Roebuck catalogs in the 70s the Christmas version. Lots of things I would circle. However, I am with you I would not trade any of my W. German guns for any item there, but I would trade some greenbacks for a few items.

  24. When I was six my father was attacked in our neighbors kitchen by her much larger ex-husband. My father reached for anything he could get his hands on and found a 1 liter returnable glass Coke bottle. I can still see that guy stumbling out of that kitchen with blood everywhere. Later my father sat me down to talk about it, this is all I remember of what he said... ”Son, there’s no such thing as a fair fight.”
