Look....I'm 63 years old and given the chance I'm not going to allow some young buck to kick my ass. If I feel as if I'm in danger......well enough said.4 points

Remember also, in many cases of self defense, the defendant does not actually have to use deadly force, but simply demonstrating you are capable is enough persuasion to alter the intent of a would be criminal. I have exposed my weapon on two occasions, and although I was prepared to do so, I was very thankful that I did not have to actually use it. I firmly believe that if you produce a weapon, you should be ready to use it, but I do not believe that you have to use it if you draw it. In my opinion, to demonstrate this force sooner rather than later, after the altercation has elevated to a level where you would actually have to use it, is probably better for all involved. I do not loose sleep over justified shootings; however, I am grateful that I have never been in that situation. Please don't confuse this logic as an argument for open carry, and Lord help us not to open that can of worms, again. I do believe that the element of surprise can work to your advantage, and you should always project an aura of confidence and control. Confidence in your ability and an understanding that you will be in control of the situation. Just for the record, I am a young, healthy 230 lb male, but I feel no obligation to try to fight someone before I show them that I am prepared to shoot their ass if they are intent on harming me or my companions3 points

There was a great article a few months ago on the issue of disparity of force and the simple answer is no, you don't have to be within seconds of death from a beating before you can respond with deadly force. The problem is that many DAs and juries don't always understand the concept of disparity of force and/or don't care and will prosecute anyway and juries may convict anyway. Remember, that in most states the standard is a "reasonable fear of death or serious bodily injury"...but it might fall on you and your attorney to educate a DA and/or a jury about why the 200lb 60 year old was in reasonable fear for his life or injury from a beating he was getting from some unarmed 180lb 16 year old thug-want-a-be (especially when the thug-want-a-be's pictures on Facebook are all replaced with pics showing how cute he was when he was 12. ;)3 points

Pretty much my sentiments. If it's serious enough for the gun to come out, perp must make a very quick decision indeed how he's gonna behave from there. Of course, if he has a weapon of any kind, he's already made it. - OS2 points

According to THIS ARTICLE, he denied having any guns. When he finally did admit to being in possession of firearms, he said they were not loaded. Some of the guns were loaded. He didn't come back to attend the trial. He was arrested in Maine in 2008 and charged with threatening his first wife with a gun. None of this takes away from the fact that NJ should be cast into the ocean, but this guy is a moron.2 points

A friend at work just bought a H&R top break revolver in this caliber, and can't find ammo. Digging through my box o stuff, I found a single piece of .38 S&W nickel plated brass...so... Since I had nothing else to do (!) I went through my books to see if I could make shootable ammo with my current dies, etc. To my surprise, diameter of 9mm is .005 less at the mouth and base, and the S&W case is slightly longer. So by short stroking the sizer die a bit, I got fairly close. My best available bullet was a 9mm 132 g RN from my Lee mold. A bit small, but I dipped in hot wax to fill the lube ring, and loaded over 2.5 g Bullseye. My friend "Barney" put the lone bullet in his shirt pocket, then tried it in his gun last night. It fit all cylinders, and he was brave enough to fire it. Success! Now for the questions. Available bullets (several 9mm .38 .357) are smaller than the recommended .361 - .362 for caliber. Would a paper patch help? Also don't have a good crimp option, as the round is too short and fat for my .38 factory criimp die - will the 9mm taper crimp be enough? Any other suggestions, besides don't do this? I found brass at Midway. I'd hate to keep loading the same single round over and over...1 point

It's just as Ayn Rand said about the radical muslum thing:"...This is a battle between barbarians and civilization...". the "civilized" had better grow a backbone and face up to what is going on in lots of places; especially europe. I cant imagine any country or group of people putting up with a steady diet of this barbarian nuttiness. It's time for them to make believers out of those who would do murder on the streets in God's name. It is high time to start the deportations and swift and expedited justice. Sometimes brutality and killin is the answer. The British and French need to adopt it pretty quickly or there wont be any of them left. leroy1 point

This is my M1a standard with wood stock. I wanted the most original look I could get so removed the original flash suppressor and installed suppressor with bayonet lug. This is probably my favorite gun to shoot. I hope to have a Garand one day but this is a fine substitute. I know you will enjoy yours too.1 point

There are so may incorrect statements in your post that I must reply. - Anyone old enough to remember the DCM? Me - It was actually set up to teach civilians who could legally own firearms how to shoot and allowed them to purchase military surplus firearms. Still is. Read the mission statement on the CMP home page. http://www.odcmp.com/ - Kinda like keeping our folks knowledgeable about shooting skills. That is why I am a CMP Master Instructor. We instruct at No Charge to the shooter. - Let's not go there right now because the real issue is all they do now is take in surplus rifles, run a safety check on them and then pretty much sell them to the highest bidder. Only on the auction site for rare examples. http://cmpauction.thecmp.org/ - I remember you could go to a DCM shoot, qualify with a Garand and walk away with one new in the box for $200. Yup, back in the 1980s. Mail orders took up to a year to two years. - If the rifles were meant for U.S. folks then they should ALL be put up for sale on a first come, first served basis with a set price and no auctions along with 1 per customer. Still selling direct, go to the rifle sales section and send in your order. http://www.odcmp.com/sales.htm1 point

It needs 66 votes. Don't think even this senate has enough support. Another reason though why the 2014 elections are so important.1 point

Let's see...this is the same senate that want's to give amnesty to about 20Mllion criminals...is about to reauthorize billions of dollars for food stamps after being unable to cut ever one half of one percent from projected growth in the program (after food stamps doubled under Bush2 and then doubled again under Obummer)...this is the same senate that couldn't produce a budget for four plus years... Tell me again why this senate won't ratify this treaty and why this is all posturing???1 point

Unless a future President pulls out of the treaty, before the Senate can ratify it.1 point

The answer to your question is simple: injuries heal and death is permanent. Our legal system generally believes that every human being has a fundamental right to exist and we don't take people's lives except in the most serious of circumstances. Seriously, how many people do you know who have gotten a serious butt kicking who didn't survive and were no worse for wear? Add in the reality that most physical altercations are predicated upon an exchange of verbal jabs and if we allowed the use of deadly force in the face of a simple physical assault, people would have a ready-made defense should they want to kill someone. All they would have to do is start a verbal altercation, wait for the person to attack, and then kill them claiming self-defense. Of course, the totality of the circumstances is important. Take RichardR above for instance. A person with numerous ailments that limits their ability to effectively defend themselves is quite different than a young and fit individual. A small person going up against a larger and more physically fit person is another situation. What you must do is be able to justify that you reasonably believed there was an imminent risk of death or serious bodily injury as outlined in the TCA, and that deadly force was your last option. Even the castle doctrine is based on the idea that an intruder poses an immediate risk of death or serious injury to you and your family, not that you are protecting your residence or property. Also, you have to live with yourself and your decision, so do you really want to live with the idea that you killed some loudmouth to keep from getting a bloody nose? I certainly don't, especially on top of the risk of being criminally and civilly liable for my actions if they weren't absolutely and clearly justified. Those who say "better to be judged by 12" have never been the subject of civil and criminal action for an unjustified shooting. I'd bet a dollar to a donut that Zimmerman wishes he'd kept his butt in his truck, even if the shooting is ultimately ruled as justified.1 point

I unfortunately suffer from a number of ailments, osteoarthritis, degenerative disk disease, along with multiple ruptured, herniated & buldged disks. I can usually manage walking short distances without assistance, but I keep a cane handy & even a wheel chair at the house because well some days are worse than others. I spent 9 months trapped in my wheel chair & spent several years of agony going through physical therapy to get to where I am now. The greatest fear I usually have is slipping and falling down, there is no way on God's green earth that I am going to allow myself to "take a beating" ..... I will do everything that I can to walk away, but the moment I think that walking away is no-longer an option my pistol is coming out. Once it comes out of it's holster the person or person(s) who forced that action had better do exactly as I tell them (keep their hands where I can see them & to stay exactly where they are until the police arrive). I am not a hardass, nor do I ever allow myself to get into shouting matches which could be considered "escallation of an altercation" if God forbid I am ever involved in a self-defense shooting it will have happened because I could not escape & they would not comply with my commands.1 point

I agree with the advice above regarding using Paypal and going off the seller's rating and reviewing any negative feedback they may have. Does this appear to be an individual or a true re-seller? Is your main concern just getting the product period or the product not being in the condition represented? I'm guessing the later since sellers usually can't get by with stiffing people otherwise they get shut down by Ebay. If it's a large re-seller then their knowledge of the product will be limited since they are just moving the product through. They most likely won't be aware of small issues that might be present on a higher end bicycle. There can be derailleur issues or a cracked frame that aren't obvious. In that case the seller may not necessarily be trying to rip you off, they just didn't know about the problem. If their return policy looks solid, then that might make me feel better. It's just me but it would have to be a very sweet deal before I would buy a bicycle that wasn't close enough to see in person. Just not worth the risk IMO so I prefer Craigslist or a LBS bulletin board.1 point

I thought the same thing. I also thought "Who can fire these gd people? Can Congress say: You don't talk, you don't work. You're fired. Look for a box from UPS with your personal items from your office in it... GTFO of here before I have you arrested for trespassing" like they should've done this morning. I mean she still gets a paycheck from us.She can choose to not incriminate herself all day but she don't need to get paid doing it. Screw her Is that guy the only one that can fire her azz? Which leads to another thought. We The People do not vote for these mf'n commissioners that are screwing us all. They are appointed. Anything they do at all IS the appointers responsibility and liability. They can't say they're appointed by the previous guy if they still allow them to work. Therefore in my mind they can hang that guy no matter if he's directly tied to it or not. It's still his gd fault directly. No matter wth they say.1 point

The three in one should be just as effective. CN Gas is weaker than CS gas it just has a longer effect. Personally I don't think that for a defensive spray CS/CN even worth bothering with as its effects are greatly reduced with sources of fresh air. I've been through several CS chambers and have been sprayed by OC multiple times. For me id rather take the CS chamber any day of the week. a few minutes of fresh air and your good to go the OC takes significantly longer to wear off also CS And CN both take more time to take effect than OC spray sometimes as much as 30 seconds, that being said both effect different people differently and you are able to fight through any of them. The next thing to consider is at what range is they are most likely to use it. The streams have a longer effective range apprx 20 feet depending on manufacturer but require batter aiming. The cone mist provides for more area of coverage but its effective range is reduced to around 10-15 feet. For someone who doesn't train on how to use it I would recommend a cone mist unit as they are much easier to get on to target. As far as a good brand, My go to choice is Fox Labs. They make some of the best OC products on the market. However their formula is geared to LE. It has a fairly high SHU with a relatively low oil to dye ratio. This results in an extremely effective spray that has a slightly shortened recovery time. So that you don't have to spend an hour waiting for a person to calm down after being sprayed. Recovery time from most of the fox labs stuff is around 20-30 minutes longer for some shorter for others I know some of that is unsolicited advice, I just don't want to see people waste money on a defensive product that may not be very effective for their intended use.1 point

If you want your blood pressure to go up a few points think about how this article will read when the fed stops their quantitative easing policies... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantitative_easing The distinguishing characteristic between QE and monetizing debt is that with QE, the central bank is creating money to stimulate the economy, not to finance government spending.
