A hooded robber burst into a Minnesota bank and forced the tellers to load a sack full of cash. On his way out the door, a brave Minnesota customer grabbed the hood and pulled it off, revealing the robbers face. The robber shot the customer without a moments hesitation. He then looked around the bank and noticed one of the tellers looking straight at him. The robber instantly shot him also.... Everyone in the bank, by now very scared, looked intently down at the floor in silence. The robber yelled, "Well, did anyone else see my face?" There are a few moments of utter silence in which everyone was plainly too afraid to speak. Then, one old Norwegian named Ole from Minnesota tentatively raised his hand and said, "My wife got a pretty good look at you."8 points

Well, I let my conscience get the better of me and contacted the owner to investigate further to make sure that there aren't some kind of extenuating circumstances which would explain the totality of evidence leading to a determination of the owner's sh**baggerry. It is confirmed; these people are neglectful and awful people. I don't have time to type it all out, so I'll just say that my suspicion was correct. I can not in good conscience let this dog back into this environment, so the decision is final.5 points

Yep. They are free to try to unionize and the company is free to resist. That's what liberty is about. See my above comment. Why should they not have the freedom to try to unionize? And why shouldn't Wal Mart have the freedom to fire every single one of them and blacklist them from ever working at one of their stores again? Freedom has to work both ways or it isn't freedom. I don't think most people who have a problem with unions have a problem with the average worker. I think their problem is the way the unions protect even that ".01%" of scumbags to the bitter end. It is also wrong to give preferential treatment and promote based on seniority rather than hard work. In that way many unions do indeed lower the quality of work. If a guy has been at a company for 20 years and he doesn't do work on the same level as someone who was hired last week, he doesn't deserve to make more, period. There is no rational justification for that kind of pay structure. Unions also pigeon hole people into their job description. Example: My brother is an electrician that worked in a union shop. He came in one day and found a ladder in his way and was about to move it. He was yelled at by his supervisor because that wasn't their job. So instead of moving a ladder - because that requires such extraordinary skill that it must belong to a single job description - the sat for eight hours, did nothing, and went home. That's not productivity any way you cut it. I have also seen similar behavior at my current job where you ask someone to do something very simple, and the answer is, "That's not my job." I disagree. Your job is whatever the hell your boss tells you to do, short of intentionally causing you injury, humiliation, or breaking the law. If you're the VP of Finance and the CEO tells you to go sweep the halls, you either sweep the halls or find a better CEO. By the way, if you are offended by generalizations about unions, you might want to reconsider your generalization of non-union shops as "sweat shops." I am non union and I certainly don't work in a sweat shop by any means. I do work in a heavily unionized company though and I am not jealous. I make a very decent wage that I negotiated without the need to pay dues to someone who is going to use them to take swanky vacations in Vegas on my dime so they can "strategize" or whatever it is they do there. My salary is based on one thing one thing alone - the value I bring to the company based on the skills I possess. Like I said, you should be free to unionize if you want, no problem there. But it's an undeniable economic fact that your awesome pay, insurance, and retirement make things cost more. Again, companies are free to charge what they want union or not. But it's also a fact that a large part of the problem with the American auto industry can be traced directly to the cost of union labor and their golden parachute contracts. It's why you can buy a better Japanese car, also made in the USA, for less than the cost of a comparable American car. So I was rolling down Almaville Rd this evening. I saw a vehicle speeding up to merge speed with it's blinker on. I eased back to let him/her in and is they finished lining the vehicle between the lines, I looked on the back window and saw this nice sticker.....TGO bullet holes!!! :usa: First time I've seen one while out driving, so it put a big ole smile on my face. I wasn't trying to be an ass and was just hoping it would go on and be forgotten. Not the case. The reason we do this is because it is not fair for our vendors, who support this site in more ways than most know, to have to compete with someone who hasn't even paid a single cent towards supporting this site. We cannot allow this to happen, even once, otherwise this place will get over run with advertising. And think about this, without those who choose to support the site we may not have a place for us all to come together. The OP of the other thread got a PM explaining the rules and what he, or his boss, can do to help support the site. This will allow him to advertise and in return we will support them. I welcome them in becoming a vendor but until they do they will nto be allowed to advertise.3 points

There are people that have a completely different mindset about dogs or pets in general. Some feel they are disposible while some treat them part of the family. Then there are those that dress them in clothes and carry them around in a purse, but that's a whole other story :) I had to put down my golden retriever of 14 years Wednesday morning and I'm still struggling with it 2 days later. Some of my co-workers understand and others can't seem to grasp the grief, "It's just a damned dog". Any animal that comes under my roof is going to be treated well, not spoiled, but taken care of. Not disposed of when they become an inconvience or when the puppy new wears off. My wife works at a vets office and comes home almost everyday with a sad story of irresponsible pet owners. I've had to ask her to please not to tell me any of those for a few days. When I was 10 we found a german shepard about a year old and searched for weeks for the owners before allowing ourselves to get emotionaly invested in the dog. 2 months later the owners popped up out of nowhere. We felt we had to do the right thing and give the dog back. At that age it was hard to understand why.3 points

I can't disclose the location or company, if any of you know me and who I USED to work for which is a Union shop, then you can figure it out but there are going to be a whole bunch of union workers not working soon because they wouldn't budge on some "additional" pay structure and now they will have NO jobs. Smart bunch of guys and gals. The company was not going to touch base pay or benefits but needed some wiggle room to negotiate renewal of the contracts (automotive) and now they can all go look for new employment. I saw the writing on the wall and got out before the rush. I think some of them think that the location will reopen under a new company and then they can start the union again....not gonna happen. The TRW folks in Lebanon are on strike right now. I pass them every day and have to restrain myself from telling them all their number one in sign language. Probably some of the highest paid workers in the area but nope, they want more. If it weren't for bailouts, those super productive auto workers (who run down to the mini mart and grab a beer on break or smoke dope http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/12/08/chrysler-workers-canned-for-drinking-on-job-reinstated/ ) would be out of jobs. Nope, say what you want, union shops are not the way to go and I want to thank the previous poster for making most of my points while stealing company time. I grew up in Miami, FL and had to mow our relatively large (for Miami... about .80 acre) yard every week, and sometimes twice a week in the summer. I hated it. We had a nice John Deere riding mower and everything... still hated it. I told myself when I left home I'd never mow again, and I haven't. :-) I'm perfectly happy to pay a friend to do it every other week for a few months a year! I'm glad there are people that enjoy doing yard work... it allows me to NOT do yard work!! :-D2 points

And you think Republicans are going to help us? They have done more harm to our personal liberties than most of the Democrats. Between the Patriot Act and all other kinds of "monitoring" programs the Republicans have taken away a lot of our privacy. They are always the ones pushing for more spying in the name of our security and who do you think they spy on? Every major program or law invading our privacy has been started by a "Republican". I suggest one single thing to fix a lot of our problems and if everyone did it the country would be a better place. Vote out any incumbent and if that means voting in a Democrat so be it. Once they realize they might actually have to go back to work or open a business they might change the laws that affect other business owners. Look at the voting record of most first term representatives. They almost always vote with the country's welfare in mind but a term or two later they have turned and begin supporting their own agenda. If we can get a government of all first termers the laws being passed or repealed would improve the country. I can honestly say I will NEVER vote for another politician that is in office at the time of the election. I will never again vote blindly for a candidate based on a letter next tot their name. And I honestly believe the best thing the country could do is remove the "R" or "D" next to a name on ANY ballot up for public vote. We love to blame the president but the he didn't pass this. It was OUR representatives that did. Our representatives are responsible for every single piece of legislation, not the president. And who do you think picked those representatives? It was the citizens of this country. So if anyone wants to blame someone for a piece of legislation they don't agree with I suggest they get up off their seat, walk into their bathroom and stand squarely in front of their mirror and accept repsonsibility. Then take that anger and turn it into action. People want to complain but do not want to put forth the effort to ensure the representatives up for election do represent them. We do not make calls, do not volunteer, do not engage people in conversation or donate to those we want to win. Then when we don't get to vote for the person we didn't support we refuse to vote in protest. How many of us actually did ANYTHING to help their chosen candidate? If you want to change the country it takes more just waiting to see if the person is on the ballot is someone you would vote for. That is why the liberals have us beat and always will as long a we don't do the same. They get out and talk to people, they organize, they donate and they are very vocal. On the other hand Republicans sit in silence as their means of protest. I suggest we all take our angst and become more outspoken. Call your candidate and voice your support. Contact others and let them know who your support. Volunteer or donate to show your support. Heck, a few emails a day will go a long way. This will do more than sitting in silence waiting to vote for a candidate that has ZERO chance of winning against a candidate that is organized much better than we are. Sitting around doing nothing accomplishes nothing. There is no law that says you can only support the candidate that represents you or your state. Because we are predominantly conservative we think we can sit back and relax but at some point we will be fighting the same fight some other states are right now. I suggest we start contacting candidates in other states and see how we can support them. That is the only way WE are going to change things in the country. We cannot sit back and wait until the fight is inside our state. Find a candidate, in this state or another, and support them. Do not wait until the election to show your support.2 points

Actually the "core curriculum" is a government program that establishes a set of benchmarks that students must meet during the school year throughout the various grade levels. In exchange for federal dollars schools have to teach to the curriculum and test accordingly. Governor Haslam accepted the program in exchange for the money. The problem with the program is the way student achievement is measured and the way teachers are ordered to teach. The biggest problem with schools are the free lunch parents who make up a majority. They typically do not support the kids, make them do their homework, or even give a rats ass if the kids make it to school. You can bitch about the schools and teachers all you want, and I know there are some crappy teachers, but we've reached a point where the majority of parents are more interested in an Obmama phone than getting the kids to class, making sure their homework is done, or sometimes even feeding them.2 points

A hunting license is required unless you are hunting/shooting on your own property. All the hogs in the state have a golden halo around their fat heads and have been listed as an invasive and destructive pest, and has had all hunting banned on them. Exceptions exists in the form of getting put on a property owners list in which a hunting license is required, and some WMA's in east TN. And again, you must have a hunting license, WMA big game permit and big game tag (gun, bow ect). How in the world did a "non-game pest" get so much protection? We had a couple of guys busted here for shooting a hog on a WMA. Rant off... DaveS2 points

I think my favorite one was last year when the school sent me a letter telling me that if I wanted my daughter to be insured at the school, I had to pay the premium. However, if she was on free or reduced lunch, they would waive that fee. If I wanted her to play sports, I had to pay that premium as well, unless of course, she was on free or reduced lunch. I have lost count of the crap she has brought home where they want money from me. I am a member of the PTA/PTO and it is a joke. The meetings are a bunch of folks standing around patting one another on the back. The 'big' thing last year was spending $2000 to get the 'premium' status of a government funded online program. The one last week was good, a fund raiser, with that magazine that has the tins of cookies and the smoked meats. There wasn't a thing in there for less than $20. But hey, if the kid sells 20 items, she gets to go to a special all day party at the school. That resulted in a nasty email to the Superintendent. As a tax paying, attentive parent, the schools make me sick, but something we need to understand is that we are the minority now. We are getting the government we deserve with the majority vote now. That is what makes me the sickest. I am a taxpaying voter. The majority now isn't.2 points

Sorry Mike but there is something wrong with that. If they don't like the pay rate, benefits, hours, etc, move on. Free country. Unions suck companies dry, decrease productivity and lower quality. Period. If any worker has a serious issue of safety or other non money grab issue, there are any number of attorneys or state and fed agencies ready to swoop in and protect them.
