7. Well I haven't heard anyone here complaining but I hear alot and read alot on FB moaning about a little "COOLISH" temps and a few flurries in March. Please, it's embarrassing, it's a freaking normal March in Tennessee. I have lived most all my exsistance in middle TN except for a time at Ft. Stewart and I have seen warm March's, cool March's, warm then cool then warm then cool March's, snow in March and tornado's in March. That's the way March is in Tennessee, just accept it. Folks in Montana are laughing at us. :)

If there's bad weather to be had in this state, Dickson and Kingston Springs seems to get it first and worst.    I make fun of my in-laws for not moving because if there's a raindrop, snowflake or light breeze in the forecast.. it'll be raining death upon that area :D

 14. Is this your first 1911? Check that the mag is loaded correctly. I know this sounds odd and maybe insulting to you, but it's not meant to be.   Seriously, load your mag, tap it firmly in the heel of your hand  on the baseplate t make sure the rounds are tightly stacked. Then tap the back into your hand to make sure they are firmly seated. If that doesn't help, check the feed lips on the mag. Maybe slightly spread, this might require a more knowledgable person than myself to check.

 15. Peace.... I understand the concern for wife and kids due to a "stanger" walkin up on the family... I also understand the concerns of others who have bad neighbors and bad situations... All that bein said; i tend to take the "watch and be ready" approach... I think the precautions ya need to take are related to where you are (...what's the neighborhood, urban or rural...), who are the people (...transients or neighbors...), and what the "protectors" (...your wife...) are willing to do to defend things if something terrible (...God forbid...) should happen...   My personal approach is the "...friendly but watchful..." approach; but im at home most all the time... If i see a new face, i make a point to visit a bit and find out who folks are... That sends a couple of messages; the most important of which is that "...im watchin...", and "...im studyin your face and features...".   Those who are petty thieves dont like that... I doubt that does much for "...stone cold killas..."; but, again, nothin does but gunpowder and lead (...which i always keep handy...)...     The sad truth is that we live in dangerous times; and everybody is edgy; so that complicates our dealings with others...   The truth of the matter is that if you are absent from the home; the only protection that can be provided has to be provided by the wife or other able bodied adult or young person... If they choose to be armed, that's a great thing and the best thing possible in my estimation... If they dont, God alone, is the only protection... I hate to say it that way; but it's the genuine truth... The truth is that i would never leave kids playing outside my direct line of sight and i would never not be armed; but that's just me... The only thing that "technology" can do for ya, is to let ya know when someone is commin.... If he (...she or it....) is the Grim Reaper, ya better be ready for what's next; and that's what the adults or other older kids watchin the little kids need to prepare for...   I know that we all want to do what we can to protect our loved ones and that's what we are supposed to do as responsible adults; but the truth is that if ya aint there, it has to be done by "others"... To my way of thinkin, the best "others" are two big dogs, the "armed and ready to shoot" wife or older sibling, or other family members (...your mean father-in-law or dear ole dad comes to mind if they are able or still around...)...   Like several here have opined; this is probably a "nothin but chance meeting", and, as such; should be considered just that... I tend to be a bit suspicious, so im always watchful...   I'll close this little essay by way of sayin by remindin everybody that "...you are the only being that can really protect you..."... I would advise calm, quite, watchful, reasoned responses to all these little encounters... It's kinda like baby bear's porrage; "...not too cold, not too hot, just right..."... That way, no body gets hurt and everything stays reasonable...   Signs, fences, and surveillance tools are just that, they are tools; they do nothing to deter anyone who is bent on doin ya harm... Only determination not to be a victim and the ability to burn powder stops the harm once the mayhem is decided on...   Here's joinin you and others in the the hope (...and fervent prayer...) that this is a simple chance encounter by a harmless wayfaring pilgrim...   watchin leroy

 16. A little off the wall but if the creek is close to your house you could put a wireless driveway motion detector across it. If you believe that the creek may be were someone would walk up from. It gives you a narrower point rather than having someone just walking into a field. Put it just high enough where if a human walked by and disturbed the "line" across the creek you would know it in the house and go confront the trespasser. Kinda odd I know but just throwing it out there.

 17.
I didn't intend to be derogatory, and you have no need to justify nor debate it with me. I will say that I'm glad I'm not in your position that makes you feel the need for all the stuff you posted. I hope your situation improves quickly. I would be looking for a way out of whatever predicament you've found yourself in.
Dude, a person isn't nuts or irrational for taking precautions to keep their wife and kids safe. I have a neighbor who has made threats toward my wife and was charged on a related crime. I've had to take active and passive measures to prevent his contact with my family. Some may think those measures are paranoid, but dammit, folks have wives and kids to worry about. The measures I've taken have made us comfortable enough that we haven't up and moved our home, which is something a free American shouldn't have to do. So I get the impression that you're mocking this guy for having so many measures in place. I'm glad that you don't have to deal with that type of nonsense, but the truth is there are crappy people out there whether or not you pine for the days of Mayberry. Being a good neighbor doesn't make crappy neighbors or bums suddenly safe for your wife and kids to be around. That is just naive. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

 19. Metro got the bright idea of posting those around Davidson county. most knuckleheads that get locked up can't spell or read the word surveillance to begin with. Cough cough good one like its gonna work. On a far worst side metro has a 250k trailer that has cameras and flashing blue lights on it like a tilt a whirl or space ship at a carnival. I see it out once on a while in parking lots flashing away it's supposed to deter crime....stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 of course it ate my spelling.

 22.   It's a shame to have to tell your kids that their teacher or book is "WRONG" but it seems necessary these days. It might come down to someone reading textbooks, printing out a textbook error correction pamplet for parents to give to their kids. Of course it's the parents decision to tell their children the truth.

 27.   In TN, the water has to be navigable for the public to have right-of-use.  I would elaborate, but it is better compiled by others...   http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Wiki/access:tn   Now, the Attorney General and I have differing opinions on the property rights of a stream/stream bed being indeterminate until a jury has ruled one way or the other.... with that said, here is the AG's take from 2011.   http://www.tn.gov/attorneygeneral/op/2011/op11-75.pdf   The afformentioned creek in this thread would not be legally or normally navigable by anything but a child's toy boat ...and then only during a flash flood.

 31.   I hear this a lot, but in reality it just isn't that easy to do for a lot of people.  Yes, you can argue it is a choice.  I won't disagree, but that is not the issue.   The issue that needs to be fixed is the school systems interpreting things how they see fit.  Taking every kid out won't fix the root cause.  It just moves it to another area.  Parents need to demand that the constitution be taught as written.  Parents do have the power to change things, unfortunately most don't want to be bothered to do so.

 32. Well, this was my first steel match. And the first time I had ever been to MSTC's range. Was really nice to say the least! I'm extremely happy with how today went. Great group of people that were there today, and great set of stages. For my first experience there, all I can say is I'll definitely be going back! Here are some videos of the match. A good buddy and myself rode up together and got to shoot together which was awesome. He is giving me a hard time, like we usually do to each other. So, don't mind him…. I sure don't! Haha. In this first video I had a hard time getting the right front plate to go down. So I just said screw it and made sure it went down. Sounds like someone thought it was overkill. But…my little 9mm sure didn't seem to like that plate at all, so screw it!

 33. I have never seen areal reason to complain about the weather regardless of where I am at the time, reason being I have never figure out I can do anything about it so why complain. It is what it is and just put on clothes accordingly, go outside, stay inside and just enjoy life and realize that the only way to deal with cold or cool weather and win in move to the Bahamas and the you only have to complain about Hurricanes and rain............

 36. The one thing that hasn't been suggested yet would be to ask your wife, "If something like this happens again and the person is acting suspicious, what are you going to do if I'm not here?"   It's her job to protect the kids too. When I have posed similar questions to some of my women friends, I just get a deer-in-the-headlights stare. The world is a dangerous place. Ignoring that fact is comforting right up until it bites you.   You need to get her to think about security and help her come up with the best options for various situations... handgun, pepper spray on the keychain, cell phone on her person when in the yard, neighbor's number on speed dial, whatever works for her.

 38. Basically it will no longer be illegal to own and carry pretty much any kind of knife you want. Penalties for using a knife in a crime will be increased. Because of the pre-emption law passed last year, cities can't further restrict knife laws. I might go buy a Protech Large Don to celebrate. A switchblade with a 4.5" blade.

 40.   Yeah, I'd be the crazy one here, apparently.  I'd be mounting covert AV equipment and IR switches to determine patterns, then hiding out on the bank in a ghillie suit in order to wrap this dude up.   Thing is, I'd never mind someone from the neighborhood passing through my property.  Back where I'm from, my family lives in a rural area with a wide swath of land which they raise cattle on.  Neighbors are about 1/4 mile apart, but it's pretty much open borders between everyone.  Folks come right over to use the range and we cut through their property frequently on foot or 4 wheeler.  It wouldn't raise anyone's hackles to see a neighborhood kid pass over their fence.  Strangers, however, would most certainly be greeted with a well armed welcoming party and strongly discouraged from returning if they made it through the event without being hogtied and handed over to the closest deputy.    A grown man knows better than to be trespassing like that, which would raise my suspicion that he's up to no good.   But hey, maybe I'm just paranoid.  I got a wife and kids though, and it is far more important to keep them safe than worrying about hurting some bum's feelings who uses my property as a pass through.  And yeah, the world is a much different place than it used to be, but transient bums have been raping and murdering defensless wives long before there was 24 hour news.  Long before anyone here was a twinkle in their great-grandaddy's eye.

 42. Even if you don't get fat and you keep perfect sight, things start change once you get into your 40s and later...most folks under 40 simply don't understand that or don't want to! It' not just weight because even if you keep yourself in pretty good physical shape there simply are things you either wont' be able to do or just won't be able to do as well at 40 or 50 or 60+ that, when you were 25 or 35 you would have done it without a second thought!  ;)

 43. Why is that a red flag? Lots of people don't save the factory stuff, or they lose it, or they buy guns used without it. If you ask to see his TN state ID and sign a bill of sale and he declines, or if you have some other reason to believe he is shady then by all means decline the deal, otherwise you should be good to go. But if you insist on running a check you can call your local PD and ask if they will run it for you. Or you can go to any ffl dealer and ask them to do a TICS transfer for you which includes a check for stolen.

 44. give me a break.  50 yards gun fights with a pistol.  you are just asking for problems if you get into a gun fight at 50 yards.  if the bad guy is 50 yards away from me i have other ways to correct the problem, i.e. drive off, run away, find cover, close ground, call 911 while running away.  most people can not hit a target at 50 yards with a pistol.  even when they can take all the time that they need.  now put into play that the bad guy at the 50 yard mark is shooting back at you.  your pistol skills will go to crap when someone is shooting back no matter what the distance is. people see to many tv/movies gun fights where they shoot each other at extreme long ranges with pistols.

 45.   Honestly any 1911 you get will be a good shooter, unless you have a lemon... which I've never had nor have any of my friends ranging from cheaper models like Tarus/RIA to the high ends Nighthawks/DW.   I think if I could start from scratch with the 1911 platform it would be the Ruger.  Like I said it doesn't matter what we say as long as you are happy.

 46. What you are missing is metallurgy. You just discovered that not all springs are created equal. It depends on what the spring is made out of and how it is tempered. You can get bad springs, or bad heat treat. Any time you see someone making blanket statements about things involving metallurgy, physics or ballistics you should be skeptical. Is a magazine that has been in storage for thirty years good to go? No, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work when you try it. Here a couple of other blanket statements that I can assure you are false: Dry firing won’t hurt your gun. Steel case ammo won’t hurt your rifle.
