You should know that if you use a firearm in justifiable self defense or defense of another, none of the weapons section penalties are applicable, permit or not, so that's a pretty moot point. Certainly, having a legal firearm in the car is a big benefit, same as in your domicile. Maybe you take a nap at a rest area or truck stop and get accosted, maybe you come to the defense of your spouse who is outside the car toting purchases, maybe any other reasonable circumstances nearby but not actually in the confines of your vehicle -- parking lots indeed are a large percentage of robberies, shootings, etc. . Point is, law abiding folks are much more likely to be able to respond to whatever arises nearby outside the vehicle when they can legally pack heat inside the vehicle, that's only logical. Same with your home. The castle doctrine does not give you the same presumption for deadly force outside the confines of your home, you are certainly fee to respond outside if circumstances dictate your reasonable fear of death or serious injury, something you couldn't do if you couldn't also keep loaded weapons inside the home. Yes, there's a minor difference, since you can pack heat anywhere on your property, but that is a technical one, as the rules regarding deadly force outside the domicile are the same as on the street. Yes, stepping outside your vehicle with a loaded gun and no permit could possibly get you a Class A, B, or C Misdemeanor conviction. It could also save your or another's life in justifiable self defense, with no charge at all. But risking conviction every day for simply having a loaded firearm in your vehicle is absurd, law abiding folks won't do it, and hence have no chance of saving that life. Being able to have loaded firearms inside your vehicle without a permit is indeed the biggest stride toward the intent of 2A in TN since carrying a firearm became a crime in the first place. - OS4 points

Do yourself a favor, (if you are bothered by those who don't know anything about TN gun laws) never go to LP and do a walk around and talk to the legislators, I have never met a group with less knowledge of the laws than that gaggle.4 points

No, the reason why anti's have such an easy time is because even people who say they are 2nd Amendment supporters still place the blame for violence on the wrong party. Do you blame the manufacturer of the gun? Does the potential for irresponsible behavior justify the denial of our rights? I'm going to come out against anyone who comes out against this removal of an unconstitutional law, whatever their reasoning. Period.3 points

About a month ago I didn't own a Glock. Didn't like 'em, didn't want one. That all changed when a guy let me shoot his Gen 4 G19 one day. I liked it, I REALLY liked it. Don't really know how it happened but after today I now own 3 of these butt ugly abominations. I picked up a Gen 4 G34 to keep my 19 and 26 safe. Hopefully I've got whatever it is out of my system and can go back to lusting over 1911's. Now excuse me while I go find a set of competition sights and a magwell for the 34.2 points

Complaints/suggestions from my experiences. Don't charge for parking. $10 entrance fee is too steep. Too small of a venue makes it difficult to get around and look. It is a "gun show" for a reason. Several in the area only seem to be about 50% firearm related. I know a paying vendor is money to the sponsor, but really wish they would screen vendors and make sure it would be a worthwhile table.2 points

By using the logic in your argument, it implies that we should not keep firearms in our home either... Heaven forbid that someone break into one's home, steal a gun, and use it in the commission of a crime. Again by your logic, one may not be charged with the commission of a crime, but one may still face the possibility of a lawsuit. Try explaining that one away... Most consumer-quality gun safes are no more secure than a locked vehicle-- a sawz-all with a proper blade and a crowbar can make speedy work of many so-called gun safes-- just like a slim-jim and a screwdriver can do for a car. Sorry, but a straw-man argument doesn't work in this situation. The risk for theft of a firearm is certainly not limited to automobiles. I'll just have to agree to disagree with your logic on this one. I'm sure you have your personal reasons for concern and I respect that, but the theoretical example you give doesn't really work as a valid reason for not being able to defend oneself while traveling. Oh, and even though I disagree with you on this, thank you for your LEO service (really). :usa:2 points

Just get rid of the whole silly fine over a sign and forget it. Most states do not fine people with licenses over signs. What does it accomplish in TN? Absolutely nothing but gives someone ammo to hassle someone.2 points

I ain't fightin' :poop: If there's ANY possible way to run, I'll be diggin' a trail as good as any coward on earth. :leaving: If I can't get away and there's a threat to me or my wife....that's why I carry. I leave the fisticuffs to the UFC guys I watch on TV. I've found that holding your tongue and looking with both eyes goes a LOOONNNGGG way in preventing the need to brawl.2 points
I don't know. I don't hear about gangsters and thugs having too many ADs and they carry all the time, often with poor, incorrect fitting or no holste at all. If they can do it, I'm willing to bet most anyone with the desire and ability to carry a gun openly will be fine, and again it would seem statistics would back this up as we're not talking about anything new. Hope it all goes through.
Yeah, we can anecdotally trade stories about untrained carriers having NDs and such, but we could also tell stories of police officers and highly trained military personnel having NDs. I have some stories. Many folks here have some too. We chalk those stories up to stupid people existing in all walks of life. Stupid people will carry guns too. Funny, the same reasons gun owners take issue with constitutional carry are the same reasons anti-gunners don't want folks to have guns in the first place. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk2 points

While I can do without pot holders and Emu oil lip balm you really do need vendors selling nuts, fudge, popcorn and the likes of to help keep people inside and looking around a little bit longer....1 point

Lower prices? Ha...I know you can't do anything about that one. Seriously...I don't know how you could accomplish any of this, but here's the main thing I would like to see: more individuals selling used guns, fewer dealers selling new stuff. If I want to know what a dealer has I'll go to their store. Also, I'm one of those who prefer not to wade through tables of used books and wool socks when I go to a gun show. I know they help pay the bills, but why not have a gun show that's exactly what it says? Finally, lower admission prices or half price for NRA members or something. It's been over 5 years since I've bought anything at a gun show, but I still like to go. But throwing away $8-10 every time is keeping me away from a lot of them. With all that said, I applaud your motivation but I don't think you're going to be able to make any big changes. Gun shows are becoming a thing of the past because everyone puts the good stuff online. I don't know of any incentive you could offer people to sell at a show in one city vs. putting a gun online and being able to advertise to the entire country. Most of what I see these days are the old school guys who probably won't be doing it much longer and people peddling granddaddy's junk. Anymore if someone does have something desirable at a gun show, it's priced up to 5 times what it should be. Just really not worth it anymore for me.1 point

You can go on ebay and buy 1 inch inserts for 30mm scope rings. They are normally less than $10. I try to buy 30mm rings with the inserts because they will work with most scopes out there.1 point

I don't think we can rely on the NRA to do anything for us at the state level. And I'm OK with that as long as they keep any more federal level restrictions from coming down on us. We need to all be members of the TFA and send them our support. The TFA is the organization that is going to focus on these issues with TN state law. I heard John Harris outline his plan for the upcoming elections at the recent Knoxville TFA meeting, and I think it is our best chance at fixing some of the issues with the supermajority that no longer wants to listen to us.1 point

When I carry (which is dang near 24/7) I am 100x more polite to others than I ever imagined I could have been. No more angry stares while driving, no confrontational body language, no outward expression of any level of frustration with other humans that may trigger any level of argument.....nothing. Not going to risk any level of escalation accusation. My first pathway to safety is to create and keep as much distance as possible. In the highly unlikely event that I encountered force-on-force aggression against me, I would look like the biggest sissy on the face of the earth trying to get away. Not because I'm afraid of them, but because I'm afraid of the outcomes associated with having to get involved with any type of conflict when armed. Get in a fight with a gun on ya, and nothing good ever happens to anyone. That said, if I ever did have to lay hands on someone it would be to create distance and escape harm up to, and including, the use of deadly force to protect me and mine. Key things that I've learned from 40+ years of martial arts is that distance is our friend, and that you NEVER lay hands on someone unless they absolutely give you no choice...you just don't know what they know, and they may just stomp a mudhole in your a$$ and walk it dry. And, to boot, I just avoid places most likely to harbor confrontational types that like to tangle. piercedan, on 17 Apr 2014 - 1:43 PM, said: And I agree.....'cept I carry two. I believe you can buy spray-on dirt for that authentic off-road look. It all depends on what you value. Myself, I value economy, handling and having sufficient power and, occasionally access to the open air so I don't really "get" trucks that aren't work trucks but to each their own. Just don't sit there bitching at me about the cost of your commute as one co-worker was wont to do.1 point

I was. I was playing steel guitar. It was us and Burt Bacharach. At rehearsal that afternoon, while we were on stage in the lawn, the motorcade pulled up to the White House. The SS guys got out on the house side of the cars, But Reagan got out on our side, and started walking toward us. The SS guys scrambled, diving over cars and running around them to catch up with him. It was pretty funny. As he approached the stage, the steps were on stage left, where I was the guy on the end. He came up the steps, extended his hand toward me, and said, "Hello, son, I'm Ronald Reagan." (Like I didn't know who he was!!) I stood, and stammered something like, "Mr. President, I'm Mike Douchette. It's an honor to meet you, sir." He stayed with me a few minutes, as he did with each of us, and he asked about what that was I was playing. We talked steel guitar for a brief time. He was so genuine and friendly. I still have the Christmas cards I received every year after that.1 point

Oh and if we're airing our dirty laundry, I've got no shame. I listened to about 6 ABBA songs last night before transitioning to Iron Maiden () which brought me around to the beach boys. The Beach Boys took me to the Everly Bros, and from their I was on a Marty Robbins kick. From there I got side tracked listening to Zapp and Roger, which transitioned to listening to a few EazyE tunes. "His name EazyE, he's got ******* galore you may think you have lots of ******* but he's got much more..." I feel bad sometimes because people look at me and instantly think "metal head" and while I like me some thrash, there's a lot more going on. Hell, I'll even listen to Narco Corrido. I don't like the message or what it's about, but I love the melodies. Won't spent a dime on an album though. I could listen to regular mariachi, but the beat is different.1 point

Justice Antonin Scalia was at UT Law School today. My son went to his talk. Someone asked the Justice what decision he was most proud of. His answer, District of Columbia v. Heller. He also stated that anyone that thinks the second amendment only applies to the national guard is a complete moron. we need a few more Justices like Scalia1 point

Actually, a closer study of the factors and players of the time, show that Southern insurrection was not the reason for the Jim Crow genre of laws, but was rather, the result of Democrats still in positions of power across the Southern States making sure that the recently freed slaves were not afforded the opportunity to arm themselves. The Jim Crow laws are all State, not Federal, issues. And you were 100% correct, we still have our Jim Crow laws on the books in TN, TCA 39-17-1307 or the "intent to go armed" clause is the snake in the grass put there to criminalize all but Sheriff's friends and political buddies who could and did get around the laws with respect to carrying firearms.1 point

Actually no, we got hammered in 1870, when the "Intent to go armed" clause was introduced, and the Citizens of Tennessee lost their Right to bear arms, all in one fell swoop as they say.1 point
