I sat down this afternoon and tried to watch "We Are The Millers", which is supposed to be a comedy. After listening to 10 minutes of nothing but expletives and profanities, I finally turned it off and am sitting here shaking my head. I grew up in the days of Red Skelton, Martin and Lewis, Danny Kaye, and clean comedy, which was actually FUNNY. Today, every show and every movie seems to have nothing but vulgar and offensive language and sexual innuendo which is supposedly "funny". I just don't get it. Years ago my wife and I went with two other couples to see a Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson movie that was billed as "the funniest movie of the year" (funny how every comedy gets billed this way; can they really ALL be the funniest movie of the year?). Nothing but foul language and nothing that I found even remotely funny. I told my wife I couldn't watch any more of it and I walked over to the next theater to see the last half of Jurassic Park. I don't mind a few colorful metaphors, but when every other word is the F bomb or something equally offensive and gratuitous, I simply can't watch it. How did we get so far away from cleanliness and true family entertainment?7 points

I fail to see how the entire restaurant chain, that is actively investigating and promising action should be boycotted. The manager or employee that did this, yes, they should be fired at a minimum. However, it would be like holding your entire company accountable because one of your installers said/did something that offended me, instead allowing you as the employer to deal with the offending employee.7 points

Weed will get you through times of no gun better than a gun will get you through time of no weed. ( blatant ripoff and misuse of a slogan from Freaky Freddie) It is absolutely ridiculous that weed is illegal. And it being illegal only boils down to the man wanting to keep his foot on our necks.6 points

You probably wouldn't have to pay the Outlaws, Hells Angels, Pagans or Bandidos to get him out. Most of them are vets and qould probably do it for shits and giggles. Tapatalk ate my spelling4 points

Agreed. After all was said and done it cost me about $100 to send as many rounds down range with an UZI. Not something I'll likely do again, but I'm glad I got to try it once. I guess it comes down to how much the groupon cost and how flush you are with223. Actually, you'd better do it, it was very cool of your wife to set that up for you two, don't want to let her down.3 points

I agree too. I am only 26 so vulgarity and sexuality based comedy is mostly all my generation sees. Still though, I enjoy watching some old Red Skelton, Andy Griffith, 3 Stooges, etc. Most new movies put out now are not funny at all IMO. It seems they are so stupid its funny and I cant stand that type of comedy.2 points

I'm not a father and will never be...something I regret but can't do anything about and wouldn't at my age now even if I could. So...I don't celebrate Fathers' Day as a father but also, Father's day is a sad affair for me now as I lost my dad just a few days before Father's Day in 2001 after he survived lung cancer for almost 15 years. I miss him and I owe a lot to my Dad; in particular an appreciation for firearms...knowing the importance of work...a love of music and a love of reading. My dad was not educated; having finished only the eight grade. But he was smart enough to marry my mom! He met my mother (who was several years younger than he) when my grandparents moved to the town where I grew up; a tiny little place called New Holland, Ohio. She met him at their church...the church was having a farewell party for him as he was leaving for the Army (WW2) - he did his basic and I think his other training at Fort Knox and became a tank driver under Patton (including a trip, of course, to Bastogne). She waited for him and they dated a few years while my dad was a truck driver until they married (she not wanting a husband that was gone all the time) so he became a crane operator for a steel company from which he retired. He also farmed my grandfather's farm and then our own small farm once my grandfather sold his place and retired and he did this even while he worked full time. In his "spare" time he hauled livestock for hire on sale days and I was usually with him to help. When he wasn't working at something, either for pay, the farm or around the house, he always had a book or a newspaper in his hand. He also had a great singing voice. When we were working in the fields during the planting season, summer and harvest he would sing while he worked...I can still hear his voice traveling across the filed even over the noise of the tractor or harvester! We fished together...hunted together...my dad was my Cub Scout Pack and then my Boy Scout Troop leader while I was in them. His pride and joy hunting gun was a Belgium Browning Auto 5 12 gauge. Much to my dismay he sold that gun to my uncle. But, thanks to a great guy here on TGO I was able to buy a Belgium Browning Sweet Sixteen that is in nearly flawless condition - that gun reminds me so much of my dad I can't even describe how happy I am to own it. Well...not sure why I decided to write all this...I guess I just felt the need to do so; maybe to remind everyone that if you have a great dad who is still with you don't take the time for granted...and if you are a dad, be a good one.2 points

Been seeing this on Facebook. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see obama try to press charges against the bikers for not letting the officials handle it...even though they are doing NOTHING! Probably because he hasn't converted to islam, then obama would send the seal team in to swap 5 cartel leaders for him2 points

Very simple. I have owned numerous 1911's and have always thought my Kimber Ultra CDP (original series) was the cat's meow. Never failed me and carries well. Then I bought a Dan Wesson CCO (still under $1500) and it is a fine pistol. In comparison to my beloved Kimber, I was kind of upset. The DW makes the Kimber look like a school kid put it together. Serious. Then I said to myself...Self, just how much better can a 1911 get without going full on custom? Now I'm not one to part with money easily, but I will spend it if I can get a good deal. So along came a Wilson CQB. To say that the Wilson makes the Kimber look like a toy is an understatement. Totally different ballpark, nevermind same field. Is the Kimber a fine weapon? Absolutely, but it is now relegated to the safe. Is the DW a fine gun? Without question, and I will be buying other DW's in the future. Is the Wilson worth it? It's definitely worth what I paid (as new gun, bought for way less than new price) and it won't be leaving anytime soon. But as I said earlier in this thread, the DW puts ALL other guns anywhere near its price range to shame. It's just that simple. And to answer the original quote of why would someone buy a $1500+ 1911? Because they have the means, like the finer things in life, and are old enough & wise enough know that you get what you pay for.2 points

So I'll bring this thread back from the dead... Mine is finally done. Well, sort of. :) Took rather a while to collect all the pieces, but I'm glad I was picky and got exactly what I wanted. TGO CMT billet lower PSA LPK PSA 16" midlength complete upper, BCG and charging handle included Magpul MOE handguard (bought from someone here) PSA flip-up rear sight Cavalry Arms C1 fixed stock Primary Arms red dot and mount (bought from someone here) This is my first AR. :woohoo: Building it was pretty darn easy. I just followed the videos that OS posted and while I did sent a detent flying once or twice, thankfully it didn't go far. The storage compartment in the stock is cavernous! I can easily fit two 10 rd stripper clips in it. I think I could squeeze 3 in there if I really wanted to. I plan to get a Hogue pistol grip for it and when I swap that, I'll put the correct selector detent spring in this time (oops... ) and adjust the set screw to snug up the fit between the lower and upper. Thanks to all who posted the many helpful hints on how to build it. :hat: When I did the big unveiling for my wife.... she said, "Cool! When do I get to shoot it?" Right after I do, dear. Right after I do. :)2 points

Damn, it looks like it was a great show. I haven't been to this show in years. I used to live near the airport and would see them practicing over my house and could even watch a good part of the show for free, but I always preferred to go and sit right up on the flight line all day long. I really wanted to go again this year, and had planned to buy the tickets on Friday afternoon pending a good weather forecast, but I aggravated my injuries trying to help a friend move on Friday so I spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday recovering. Now I just have to hope that they do another show next year. Did they do any ground demonstrations besides the jet truck? Like the strafing runs, helicopter insertion / evac, bombing runs, etc? I always thought those provided a nice variety instead of just flying plane after plane, especially for the youngsters. I would really love to see some live-fire shows like they do out in the desert. Warthog, Apache, etc.1 point

I have had one XD and it was ok. I just shoot Glocks better. I could also stand to live without the grip safety. I do like how the 9mm XD's hold manically hold so many rounds. The XD 45 is somewhat thinner and easier to carry over a Glock 21. I also had a XDS 45 but I just like the Shield so much better. The XDS carries like a small gun and shoots like one. The Shield just shoots like a fullsize.1 point

Medical marijuana will still get you high, actually it gets you higher than regular pot. With true MM you will know exactly what strain you are consuming as opposed to "bubba pot" that God only knows the contents of. MM also tends to have higher concentrations of THC. Different strains will give the user different effects. Some strains will make the user really hungry, these strains have been known to really help out chemo patients who don't want to eat. Some strains will relax the user, these have been known to work in the place of heavy drugs used to treat anxiety. Other strains will cause the user to concentrate, users can use pot instead of dangerous amphetamines. These are just a few examples of things that marijuana can treat, not to mention daily issues like insomnia, and aches and pains. Think what you want but I'd rather use a natural plant to treat myself than synthetic chemicals made in a laboratory.1 point

lol KFC in for the win! This is a nasty PR issue to deal with, even though the issue was isolated. As for the actual incident that caused the injuries to the child, I'm sure the owners of the dogs said the same thing they always do "my dogs never hurt anyone or acted aggressive towards anyone before I have no idea why they done this" This issue would be best solved with some criminal charges, and a whole bunch of bills coming their way.1 point

While i do agree, the appropriate punishment, IMHO, would be to scar their face in a similar matter and in a way it could not be fixed, so that they understand the true pain associated with an injury like that.1 point

I liked Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, they were always entertaining. On sundays creature double feature was a hit too. I gave up on listening to reviews many years ago, I found that I liked what they didn't and vice versa. Now there are very few shows or movies I watch, mostly series shows on HBO. Radio fills the void for entertainment these days more than the tv box. Strange days indeed!1 point

I hear you - and I'm a youngin', only three months out of my teenage years! I can't understand how disgusting and foul things have gone from unaccepted to supposedly "LOL"-worthy in the space of about two to three generations. It's why I don't even watch movies. Our tastes as a whole have gone from refined to trash. I'd like to add one more thing - this seems to go in tandem with how folks present themselves in public. My dad (71) says that he and his old folks would always dress nicely when they went "out" - as seldom as that was. Their car was always shined and in shipshape. The women dressed with at least a half a thought of respect for themselves. We've gone from that to where nobody cares how they appear in public - I'm not talking about everyone wearing a suit and tie or a dress all the times, but at least something half decent. If you look around in town - wherever "in town" may be for you - you see so much trash. What gets me the most, odd as it may be for a young man, is seeing attractive young ladies who don't appear to be dopeheads basically advertising themselves. Skimpy tops, skimpy shorts. It's disgusting. It seems to me that society seems to follow the state of the entertainment industry, I swear... in the 40s and 50s we had more class, a sense of respect for ourselves. Now as movies and all entertainment has devolved into an orgy of provocative and piggish filth, so has society. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Being so young, who am I to say anything?1 point

I got it , the solution to many problems faced here in the US. Thank you Dustbuster, your post inspired this solution. We could send or felons from prisons to Mexico on the bases that they never come back Think about it, this could free up or prisons, reduce the amount we spend on prisons, reduce over population in prisons. I am sure many on Death row would jump for this since Mexico is anti death row as well.1 point

I just ordered 500 for $165 shipped. Website was a little slow but it got through. I told myself recently that I've probably bought my last round of brass 223 ammo. 34-35 cents for one pull of the trigger is just too much. I said if it got down to 30 cents shipped I would do it. I bought this exact thing--500 rounds of m193--from Palmetto in April '12 for $150 shipped. So this was still a little higher but hell steel is about 28 cents a round shipped. What I really need to do is just double down on 7.62x39. I've got two AKM variants and an SKS, and for under 23 cents a round shipped that is the best centerfire deal other than 5.45.1 point

No one had ever asked me. But if they did I would mention something about keeping my options open, fight or flight like has been mentioned before. One answer I never will give, and no offense intended to those of you who think they are this. But I am not a sheep dog, I have no intention of using my carry gun to save anyone who is not a loved one of mine. I DO NOT carry to protect anyone else. You are on your freaking own. If you get shot and maimed because I did not pull my gun to save you then Oh Well. Too bad for you.1 point
