Personally I think it should be the same as when people die during the commission of a crime and that is the person who initiated the criminal act should be charged with any injuries or deaths, including fellow criminals. After all, but for the criminal's actions no one would have gotten hurt. A innocent person trying to defend his life should not have to worry about the legal ramifications and should only be worried about coming out the other end of the alercation.4 points

You've got to die of something. My grandmother was always trying to get my grandfather to watch what he ate. He had heart problems, so it was certainly warranted. But, he drew the line at butter. Whenever my grandmother gave him margarine, he wouldn't touch it. When pressed, he'd reply that, "I trust cows more than I trust chemists." He was ahead of his time, I guess.4 points

If these dirtbags came in my business I would throw them out at gunpoint. These people are rabble, they are not NRA members or members of any community that I would choose to associate with. This is "Open Carry Texas" at a Target store in Texas. Looking at the obama tee shirt and package of oreos he is holding up to make a political statement, this guy and his cohorts are from bloomberg, brady or organizing for america. Maybe ACORN. Target bases it's business on soccer moms. Soccer moms do not know or care what your gun rights are and are frightened when scum like this in the photo parade around a store they are shopping in. Soccer moms WILL vote for any politician who promises to "protect" them from evil looking men carrying evil looking rifles. To preserve our gun rights, do not provoke the soccer moms or retailers in their stores. Carry discretely and politely. Do not be one of the reasons that our rights are being stripped away from us. Anybody remember a tool named embody or emboy or something like that going around Nashville a couple of years ago provoking park rangers and police by openly carrying? He and Open Carry Texas are more dangerous to your rights than the brady idiots. A lot of critical thinking and situational awareness are in order.2 points

I disagree with him too. This is the only de facto nod to constitutional carry since 1870 when it became illegal in the first place. Amazing to me that such a historic enactment has flown almost totally under the radar. - OS2 points

Yeah, I gotta respectfully disagree with Robert on this one. This law change is a pretty big deal.... IMHO the biggest positive change since HCP reform back in '94. Full-on constitutional carry and TICS exemption for permit holders are really just about all we have left to win on the state level.2 points

As we celebrate our nation's independence this week, remember how it was tested and nearly lost at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3 1863. Truly a watershed moment in American history. I visited the battlefield many many years ago with my old man, and have read a number of books on it (my favorite being The Killer Angels, which is more historical fiction). It is of course amazing to be there and walk the ground, and I would love to go back. It featured some the most horrendous, close quarters, brutal combat you'll ever read about, particularly on day 2 in places like the Wheatfield, the Peach Orchard, and Devil's Den. Like all significant battles, so much of it turned on random events and dumb luck. So many ifs. If the South had pressed the advantage on day 1, when they had the North on the run...if Col. Chamberlain doesn't hold his position at Little Round Top on day 2 (probably THE turning point of the war)...if Lee tried anything but a reckless, suicidal frontal assault on day 3...would've been a different outcome. The Union was ready to sue for peace that summer, and England was just looking for a reason to join in on the side of the Confederacy. They win Gettysburg and that probably would have been it. Who knows, after helping the South mop up, England might have said we want back what used to be ours. We might all be speaking today with British accents, and goodbye Constitution! So take a moment to remember.2 points

I would not have a problem with background checks but for the fact that they want the serial number and description of the firearms. This is not checking out purchasers records. This is forming the ground work for a gun registry one day.2 points

But what about knives, axes, cars, gas and sharp poles? Once you open the door saying this is ok then they will move on the next and soon you will be asking the gooberment for permission to take your poop....2 points

Don't make the mistake of thinking this bill actually accomplishes anything wonderful...like the so-called "guns in trunks" bill of a couple of years ago; it's nothing more than a bone thrown to the "pro-gun" crowd to keep them (us) quiet since the Republican triumvirate doesn't have the guts to pass anything truly meaningful.2 points
-
Persoanlly I have zero problem with what they have said. Just like most businesses Target does not want to get into the 2nd amendment fight and just want to make money. If they chose to ban firearms or if they chose to openly allow firearms that would cost them customers. By being vague they have appeased both sides and probably increased their customer base by doing so. I will shop there because they do allow me to carry my handgun. I have no intentions of carrying my guns openly so their decision does not affect me .2 points

How about we don't cooperate with these gun grabbing assholes in ANY WAY? They don't want background checks on private sales. They want gun ownership by private citizens to be totally eliminated. Their gun control schemes don't work, even in their anti-gun utopias. Piss on 'em.2 points

I think one important question was missing? "If you answered 'yes' to all or the majority of the previous questions, is it because you're a bald faced liar and will kiss anyone's ass simply to get their vote?" If they answered 'no,' then you know the answer is 'yes.'2 points

It's hilarious how the over-zealous nutjobs on OUR side are causing us more trouble lately than the over-zeolous nutjobs on THEIR side. WTF good can come of toting rifles into a big box retail store to cause a scene...just because you can?2 points

Here's the thing, in reality, they did nothing at all. They did the exact same thing as Starbucks and Chipotle. They released a statement asking customers to leave their guns at home. The focus of which is directed at asshats like Open Carry Texas and others walking around with rifles. What is important to take note of is what they didn't do.(just like Starbucks and Chipotle) That is post their locations against carry. Moms Demand Action From Bloomberg gets to crow about a victory while normal folks will continue to go about their business and carry into Target like we always have before. Target gets to go about their business of selling stuff to folks who don't like going to Walmart instead of being used as a pawn by both sides of a debate they couldn't give a shit about. If we 2A folks really want to do ourselves a favor we would stop dragging innocent 3rd parties into it. This isn't a zero sum, with us or against us fight. Let MDAFB make asses of themselves instead of helping them accomplish their goals by being egotistical dickwads. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD2 points

I noticed the term "open carry" when I read it earlier as well. I think they are basically saying, don't come in and be a douchebag even if "open carry" is legal in your state. I am curious if there is anything specific about concealed carry.2 points

I've always looked at this way. If your hunting from a tree stand I say compound bow but personally if I'm hunting in a ground blind I would use a crossbow. It's all personal preference though. Shoot what's comfortable.2 points

I don't see 39-11-604 having any "teeth," in that it only codifies the idea that a person cannot use self-defense in relation to someone who was not attacking the defendant. It certainly doesn't make someone more responsible that he would be otherwise. This case looks like an aberration for several reasons: 1. The defendant did not have a HCP and was convicted for being armed; 2. Self-defense wasn't effective anyway because the jury convicted him of attempted murder of the person who shot at him; 3. It appears the defendant, and/or his buddy, had some involvement in starting the confrontation (which juries don't like in TN); and 4. He was shooting at someone who was driving away from him, and doing it in a crowded parking lot around 1pm. Taken together, I am not at all surprised by the verdict. The defendant was clearly reckless and unconcerned for the well-being of innocent people. If the facts were different (for example, the mall shooting mentioned by LP), the outcome might have been different. However, I certainly agree that people need to be aware of the surroundings before using deadly force. The degree of responsibility that goes with using deadly force is much higher than many people think (or understand).1 point

I thought I'd bring this thread back to life with a little report... I built a new semi-raised bed garden this spring, it's about 2 ft wide x 30 ft long. I wanted more garden space and after a very poor yield last year, I got the impression that our other garden space needed a break. Due to nearly non stop spring rains keeping the area too wet to till, I got a late start getting things planted. I was finally able to use a lot of the compost from my compost barrel (see the first page of this thread). The compost came out black as diesel oil and seems to have helped noticeably. We planted 4-5 varieties of tomatoes and it looks like we'll have a great harvest, they're only just now getting ripe. The cherry tomatoes have come in first and I've got more of them than I know what to do with. I'm expecting plenty to freeze this year. :yum: Next is okra and it's growing fine but it's got a couple more weeks yet before we'll get any. We planted broccoli much later than recommended, but we had the seeds so we planted them anyway. While they've come up and grown fine, it seems all they really did was provide food for the caterpillers. The leaves look like swiss cheese and out of 6-8 plants we got one solitary head of broccoli smaller than a coke can. I pulled them up yesterday and tossed them in the compost. I may try one more time, but so far I'm 0 for 3 with broccoli. We planted some lettuce also much later than recommended, but it's done great. We got more lettuce than we knew what to do with and it continued to produce through the heat up until a week or two ago. Actually it's still there and growing but the lettuce is bitter now. Guess I'll pull it up too. The snap peas didn't do anything. The plants started growing fine, then turned brown and died after about a month. I don't know what happened, they did fine last year. The green beans didn't do well either, though I think that's our fault. I think we got pole beans instead of bush beans and since we didn't put up anything for them to climb they got completely overrun by the zuchinni right next to them. I got one handful of beans the other day after digging them out from under the zuchini. And speaking of zuchini.... while the plants have grown about 3x bigger than we expected, we've only gotten a handful of zuchini. Hopefully they'll continue to produce for a while yet. The cucumbers have produced more than we can eat but the plants have turned brown over the last week or so. I expected the plants to last longer than this. That's it for the new garden bed. In the old garden bed we planted some pumpkin seeds saved from last year's Halloween pumpkins at my 6 yr old's request. Surprisingly (to me anyway) they've grown into a rather large pumpkin plant. No baby pumpkins yet so we'll see what happens. We also planted a green bell pepper and chili pepper there because we ran out of room in the new bed. They're doing fine and I'm impatiently waiting for some home-made salsa. :yum: How's everyone else's garden doing this year... ?1 point

Lots of good info n here for ones who like to read this genre...but hard to keep track of..wonder if it would be possible to have a sticky (I think thats what it's called) on this thread with an updateable master list? Then one could see all the books without having to read every thread. Once one decides to check into a particular book, you could then do a search for the title and rad reviews...good idea, or not?1 point

So you can't carry an AK47 into a target anymore? Hopefully broadswords and chainsaws are still okay. Seriously, why is this an issue? You can still carry concealed. They just don't want folks bringing an arsenal into their establishment and scaring off customers. If there was a rash of dudes open carrying dildos into the kids' section of Target I'm sure they'd come up with a policy for that too. This has absolutely nothing to do with the second amendment. Target will still have my business. Just shopped there yesterday, as a matter of fact. Had a bullet launcher on me the whole time. Hooray for discretion! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I agree with this to the extent that there should be some personal responsibility when things go sideways. I'm an engineer who fixes aircraft engine parts. If I make a bad decision that results in someone getting hurt, the FAA won't let me hide behind my employer, they'll haul my arse to jail. Why is that not the case for the above? It can be argued that the officers on the raid are merely the minions following orders, and I'm ok with that, but why aren't the guys who gave the orders personally responsible? If I am, they should be too.1 point
