  1.   I kept talking to the lady at the Palmetto State booth. That said, a buddy of mine is a bartender downtown, apparently the palmetto state guys went out saturday night and when a guy at the bar bought some food for a vet, they gave the guy an AR.... Classy all around

  2. I was there the first day and stayed till 5pm. My feet were sore but I had fun. I got a cool Rock Island Tshirt and some bulet samples from X-Treme Bullets. I got a picture with Lee Ermey and one of those cool coins he was giving out. It's the size of a silver dollar. Here's mine. 3. A single hat in a sea of freebie hats would've been hard to notice. Might I suggest next time to include some Rex Kwan Do pants? On a more serious note, the T-shirt wouldn't be a hard sell for TGO frequenters. You would likely be out of stock within a day. I believe the fact that you don't have your logo strapped on everything increases the odds of people quickly buying whatever is produced.

  4. Reminds me of an old tale. THP officer was ticketing a gentleman for running a stop sign. No big deal, this young punk ride by on a harley, flipped the officer off and proceeded to ride off. Officer goes after him and the young punk says "you can't ticket me for flipping you off, it's my first amendment right" The officer, being a really smart man, says "you are right sir, I'm ticketing you for improper use of hand signals, you motioned a left turn and then stayed straight" The ticket stuck.

  5.   It's just immature.  Besides if an officer can't summon the patience to deal with someone flipping them off and "wouldn't take it very long," I don't want that person wearing a badge, and the powers that come with it.

  6. Found this online...     So it sounds like Tennessee just "does it for" 18-year olds now.   But this thread seriously makes me sad that a person can reach adulthood and not know what Selective Service is.  What the hell do they teach in schools these days?  Is Civics no longer part of the curriculum?

  9. Want to make some scratch? Cheese? Coin? Loot? Dollar bills? Ever fancy yourself a bounty hunter? :) Websites like TGO need advertisers to stay afloat, let alone grow bigger and better and make it possible to do cooler things. To date we've been fortunate -- blessed even -- to have our advertisers find us. We've never had to go hunting for them, and honestly I've never really wanted to. I just don't like selling. I'm not a "sales guy" and I hate cold-calling. But recently I had a member approach me with a prospective advertiser and asked if I'd hook them up. So I did. And I also felt like I owed that member something in return... so I did something for that person too. Which brought to mind an idea: Pretty much everyone here has their list of favorite shops to do business with. But how many of those favorite shops support your favorite local forum by advertising with us? All of them? Some of them? None of them? Could you maybe help us by convincing them to sign on with us? Because if you can, and they tell me that YOU are the reason they signed on as an advertiser, I'll gladly kick a commission payment your way. :) So, what's the motivation? I'll make no bones about this: I'd like to eventually quit working for the man Monday - Friday and make TGO something of a full time job. I'd love nothing more than to work on new features, new content, videos, blogs, reviews, etc. all for the TGO community. But in order for that to happen, we need more advertisers and I'd be glad to share some of our increased success with anyone who helps get us there. If you are instrumental in helping bring a new advertiser on board, I owe you a debt of gratitude and I'd like to put some money back in your pocket to say thanks. Let's talk! For details, contact me privately.

  11. I don't think anyone is saying that the car driver isn't at fault.  He clearly turned into oncoming traffic.  But I'm sure he didn't think the bike was going 100 either.   Both people in this one are at fault.

  12.   How 'bout a tgo range day for members only. An all afternoon kinda thing where we meet, shoot, eat.... maybe a pitch in lunch kinda thing.
    2 points
  13.   Agreed - I was hoping more people would "find me" there but the hat really isn't enough of a give-away.  The NRA show and the desire among the members to be more recognizable to each other has renewed my interest in getting more hats and polo shirts made for the TGO membership who want them.  T-shirts might be a possibility as well now that services like SpreadShirt and others are producing better quality gear.   Their stuff used to be really substandard.

  14. I guess it's OK to kill a motorcyclist because he was speeding. Drivers of cars bear no responsibility to look out for us because as we know, cage drivers never speed or change lanes without looking, or spend their time in their car with their cell phones plastered to their heads. Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out, right?

  16. I know an older fellow who has two of the P238 pistols.  He had the same problem with both - feeding and ejection.  After being unable to get these pistols to behave he returned them to Sig for inspection or correction as needed.  Both came back with a list of the parts the factory exchanged.  Despite all this he continued to have the same problems with both of them.  I suggested his grip strength could be the problem.  He handed off both pistols and a full box of ammo for each to me, then waited while I enjoyed some time with them.  After 50 rounds through each, and zero malfunctions, he realized he would have to "man up" in order to get them to work for him.  These are very fine firearms, well designed and built.  In spite of this they do require the user to hang on tightly to make them function.

  18.   I don't want to knock your advice, but setting up high cfm air movement in a crawlspace with any kind of microbial growth can make things worse. Mold and fungus tend to "spore off" as a defense mechanism, so adding air movement could just spread whatever it is down there.

  19. No professional company I know of or have worked for uses bleach to treat any kind of microbial growth. Some of the harsher chemicals they use are peroxide-based.   If it were me cleaning this up for myself, I would HEPA vac the visible growth off the affected areas to prevent any sporing off, then wipe the areas +2ft with Benefect or another reputable antimicrobial (my preference has always been Benefect just because of how safe of a product it is). Then I would soak the areas with benefect and let it dry as is.   If you have a lot of the crawlspace showing that kind of  growth, there is a lot more that "should" be done. If you want the better advice, contact someone certified in microbial remediation, like an AMRT certification through IICRC.   Here is a link to Benefect, this is not concentrate and is intended to be used at full strength: http://www.amazon.com/Benefect-Botanical-Disinfectant-1-gallon/dp/B000Y215W6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1428889806&sr=8-1&keywords=benefect

  21. Both Remington and another company called New England Westinghouse were both contracted to produce about 3.3 million Mosin M91's for the imperial Russian government during WWI.  During the production run, the Russian Revolution occurred, and the Karensky government subsequently defaulted on the contracts.   Approximately 1.5 million or so had already been shipped to Russia, several hundred thousand more were waiting shipment, and additional rifles were in the production lines or stockpiled at the factories.  Both Remington and NEW were facing bankruptcy because of the default, the US government stepped in and bought up all the unshipped rifles and even had the factories produce more, many of which were issued to reserve troops and units of the national guard.  Both the US surcharged rifles and those which were purchased but never entered into Army stockpiles were later sold by the forerunner of the CMP to US citizens in the 20's, at a loss of about 90% of the original purchase price.  Others were bought by companies like Bannerman's of New York, then sold both here and abroad (some were even rechambered to 30-06).  Rifles that made it to Russia were confiscated by Finland after the Finns declared their independence from Russia, several were also sent to Spain during the Spanish Civil War of the 30's. Others wound up in various Balkan countries, and a large number were captured by the Germans and Austrians during the war, quite a few of those eventually were sold to Finland, as that country adopted the Mosin rifle as the basis of their firearms through WWII.   It's uncommon (though not unheard of) for a Remington or NEW barrel to be shortened to 91/30 lengths, and converted to those specifications.  It's much more likely that your friend's rifle is still in it's original M91 form, a lot of people who are relatively unfamilair with Mosins in general will often confuse those two variants.  Either way, $150 for any Remington Mosin rifle would be considered a bargain today.

  28.     Of course both are at fault, but mostly the rider.    As a motorcyclist one has the responsibility to expect everyone else to be doing stupid things.  It goes with the territory.  Life is not a race track where everyone is a trained professional who inherently receives some level of trust.  I don't expect anyone to see me, much less yield to me, ever.  If I'm riding so fast that I can't stop or otherwise evade when someone doesn't something stupid, it's MY fault, not theirs.    From what I can tell in the video, it looks like the car started to turn, saw him, and stopped.  He was going much too fast and riding in the right edge of the lane, both of which make him less visible and give him less time/space to maneuver.  When he clipped the corner of car, it appears to be stationary.  Had he expected the car to pull out in front of him and had an escape route in mind before he even got to the intersection, it wouldn't have happened.    There are times where you're just screwed and can't do anything, but those are very, very rare.

  29. I agree with that. Just got a Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator for my son from csaxj3 the other day (great guy to meet btw). In my book I wouldn't call it an entry level 1911 by any stretch. I just happened to be able to work things around where I could get it. But we've been very impressed. I did have a Springfield years ago, and I guess this one is just another testament to Springfield's quality and reliability. I've heard the same about the Ruger as well. Bottom line is, go handle all you can. And, although I haven't seen them on here, there are people "out there" who will try to make you believe that if you don't spend an exorbitant amout of cash on one, well, you just don't even have a 1911. Well that's garbage. Stick to your budget and get the best quality you can afford. Then just keep learning from there. There's quite a bit of lost 1911 knowledge I'm going to have to relearn myself. And buying this one the other day has just made it worse, because now my son won't let me steal his gun!

  31. Safety awareness is effective if it is emphasized on auto driers as well as motorcyclists. That should be the drive instead of a helmet law. I have witnessed effective safety campaigns in two states. Florida has even made headway by teaching school kids to be aware of motorcycles and bicycles on the road. Stiff penalties for car drivers go along way too! For too long the "I didn't see em" was an excuse that let drivers off with a slap on the wrist. Jail time opens up some eyes. I think the dude in the video was goin too fast otherwise he would've stopped or avoided the car. Of course the car turned in from of him and didn't have a clear path. Should be found at fault as well.

  32. Not only can you not get student loans without signing up, but you cannot take a federal government job later if you do not register. To be honest, I think one of the only reasons that we have the Selective Service and the process of sending in a card is because of tradition. Most states since about 2000 automatically share your drivers license information to the Selective Service.

  34. I spent another 5 hours there today.... Really enjoyed seeing everything and talking to some people. Got lots of bullet samples from Berger, they were very generous and I can't wait to test them out. I handled the R51 today and will be interested in how the second production goes. The Remington reps said everything is worked out now so we will see.... I spent some time at the Sig booth, their optic and suppressor line looks great. I looked at the 4-16x44 tactical scope they have and it looks great - FFP, illuminated, IR mode... Slightly higher than the Vortex PST when they hit the street in August or so. My wife met a couple people from the Girls with Guns show. And Gabby Franco (Top Shot All Star) gave her shooting instructions at Nashville Armory. We should have the RM380 in about a month - not sure if she is going to keep it, or sell it and step up to a small 9mm.

  35. Congrats. I hope you really enjoy it. I think Sig makes some top notch pistols, and though I don't personally want the 238(it just doesn't fit nor feel right for me); it's a fine carry pistol.

  37.   Dunno. Everybody still has to register with Selective Service System at 18, perhaps just a US gummit PSA?   Since nobody works any more, or obeys many laws,  maybe there's a big gap with registration because so many have never gotten a Social Security number or something.   - OS

  39. Here's pictures from my second trip! Wow, what a day! Kinion from Southern Boyz Outdoors in Louisiana was at the Vanguard booth. Great guy, got to talk to him for a while. Bruce from Swamp People, he was really down to earth and chatted with me for a while. This man needs no introduction, but one of the highlights of my whole experience at the show. Very nice and signed a book to my Dad and myself. Dad is a HUGE fan and has been for a long time. Sweet CORE rifle! And Wayne LaPierre! He was standing there talking to the president of Browning as I walked up. Stood there for about 5 minutes just waiting for a chance to say hi. He was very gracious, thanked us for coming out and showing support, and was happy to take pictures with us. These safes were pretty sweet, well lit and rotating access. CHOOT EM! CHOOT EM! Lord have mercy, Theresa Vail! Was watching her do an interview and waited for about 10 minutes while she talked to one of the vendors. She was very nice, but unfortunately for my friends, was in a rush to leave after I got my picture and talked to her for a minute. Absolutely great time today! I will be going to Louisville next year to do it again. Glad we went back, it wasn't quite so overwhelming knowing we'd seen most of it. Got to talk to PSA and Vortex guys for a pretty good while, great people. And as y'all can see, I was repping TGO

  40. As much as I think Bloomberg is a douche and don't agree with his viewpoint, I can't back the idea that a husband would give his wife an ultimatum based on not agreeing on guns.  I suspect anyone that into guns probably knew when they got married a general idea on their partners viewpoint on the matter, whether it be full on anti, indifferent, or pro.  People can also change their mind.     I would speculate any deadline is just an excuse to cover up a bigger issue in the relationship.  It's a partnership, not a dictatorship.   If you think what he is doing is ok, we will have to agree to disagree.  There are bigger things in life than guns.   If he believes in the constitution so much, he should also believe in his wife's right to express her opinion on the matter, even if they disagree.

  45. What is it with you all and the NRA..?   The NRA doesn't give two diddly shits about our gun laws, or lack thereof them...   They want one thing...YOUR MONEY...Meanwhile, they sit back and do nothing while many states have their firearms rights chipped away, little by little...   Keep sending in that check to them though, you dont want to miss out on that new nra hat and arm patch...
