  1. This has been in the works for 2 years now. I bought all the parts & it was put together by a really good friend of mine in Florida, Shane Thomas. It's based (loosely) on a 1740s style French Fusil de Chasse. Usually a smoothbore gun, I had this built as a .62 caliber rifle. The barrel was special ordered from Colerain with a 1:60 twist & round bottom rifling. The maple for the stock was ordered as 'plain' Yeah...you can see how that turned out! I had the barrel mounted with a hooked beach & wedges, rather than the correct pins, because I actually use my guns & I wanted the ease of cleaning that an easily removable barrel allows. I've only shot a couple of light loads (80gn FFg) so far & it shoots as well as it looks! I'm off to the range tomorrow to start working on a load & adjust (file) the sights as required!

  2. I made this the other day for myself, and figured I'd show it off a bit. The color is Burnt Bronze. Finish is Cerakote (bake on). 3. no kidding!   Why even have a separate HCP?  Why not a citation on the DL that means the person has a HCP.  Now that might save some money.

  4. Oh and to all of our members who are cops or were cops... I'm sorry.   I'm sorry for letting this thread go as long as I did and for the fact that you put up with the crap you do on the job, only to come to TGO and put up with it here.   We won't let that happen again.  Ya'll may be a bunch of donut bandits, but some of us are glad you are here.

  5. I found this in the comments section and they are right. This coach should prosecute the kid to the full extent of the law and sue the parents and anyone else a lawyer can find to hold accountable.

  8. So, last year, legislature enacted the staggered times on the HCP issuance and renewals, to get them to start falling in line with the five year birthday renewal of one's TN DL. And probably there was a fiscal note on this for admin and software and whatnot. I'm sure it was also touted to save money in the long run.   Okay.   So now, they just passed the new eight year new cycle on TDL renewals. Same deal, claiming 6 million in savings over time.   Only in Tennessee.   At least we can legally eat our roadkill, always been proud of our lawmakers' wisdom and all with that.   - OS

  9. I just picked up my new Glock 43 from Guns and Ammo. While I was there I had them install TFX night sights on it, and just for good measure I grabbed another Gen4 Glock 19 with TFX night sights. I can't wait to shoot it. The holster is a Comp-Tac Infidel for the S&W Shield and fits like a glove. I got the idea from Colion Noir.

  10. The older I've gotten the more I am inclined to let things live than to kill them.  Admittedly when I was younger I was quite blood thirsty.  As long as they aren't causing a problem I'd let them live and enjoy watching them.  A coyote on the other hand is noting but a target in my eyes

  11. I don't get the sudden craze in cinnamon flavored sugary booze. They've existed at least since I was a kid and lord know cinnamon schnapps outdates anyone here, but it really does seem like they are getting heavily marketed just now. I couldn't agree more, I think the stuff is gross. It was fine when it was just stuff like schnapps, goldsclagger, and aftershock, but now they are dragging poor defenseless, quality intoxicants into the mix and thats just not right. Poor batch of JD never had a choice, and it never had a chance :(

  13. No offense taken. I own a Shield and a 42 as well as a variety of other Glocks. I almost always have a G30 or G19 on my waist. Those who have met me know that I'm a big guy, so getting the Shield, 42 or 43 in the pocket is not a concern. After getting the 42 and carrying it in gym shorts in the yard or around the house, I'm satisfied with it. The 43 will be another around the house, gym shorts pistol and may see limited duty when my wife has me scrub up and put on a suit. I didn't purchase the 43 to replace anything. The 43 is just another option for me to consider when carrying.

  14. They feel good Dave but I've been down the newest released gun pathway enough times to be a bit jaded so I vicariously enjoy reading about others purchases. But FWIW I can't help but think a new 4th gen G19 paired with a G43 wouldn't bring a smile to anyone's face.

  15. Things have changed since we were in school, haven't they? If this had happened when we were in school, the coach would have went to the hospital and the kid attacking him would have went to the hospital if he was extremely lucky after the entire football team went to town on him. EDIT: Please ignore this. I've fallen off my meds. Darn kids! Get off my lawn!

  18. I guess I'm used to people carrying loaded guns around me so that doesn't upset me.....   The bigger issue I have with it is when they load all the shooters at the same time and then do a walk through on BOTH stages simultaneously in the same bay and then start randomly calling people to shoot on one stage or the other.....that DOES NOT save any time and just screws with the shooters.

  19. Everything in the Bill of Rights is there to protect the individual from the federal government, including the 2nd Amendment. Again, it says "the people." "[T]he people" means the people. It doesn't mean the states. It doesn't mean the militia. It doesn't mean the federal government. Seriously, which part of the "the people" is giving you trouble? Because I'm not seeing where the confusion lies.

  20. You know... when I saw this thread start, I figured it was going to go this way but I also thought "We always close these things down pretty quickly so do we really know that it's always going to go into the toilet or are we just making assumptions?" So I decided to let it run. And guess what: We ended up right where I figured we were going to end up. Blah blah blah Cops are assholes. Blah blah blah Cops are power hungry jack-booted thugs. Blah blah blah Cops don't need assault rifles and armored cars and body armor or any of that other stuff we all think is cool and want to own ourselves. And now I remember why we lock these threads down. We do it because like one guy said, most of us who know a cop or cops know some really nice guys. We do it because we realize that yeah, a few dicks can spoil the reputation of an entire profession. We do it because we've got members on this forum who are cops and are (a.) good people and (b.) our friends and (c.) fellow gun owners and (d.) valuable sources of insight and professional perspective and just allowing people to freely malign their profession seems a bit egregious. But hey... a good ole' cop lynching thread (make no mistake, that's what we're doing here) can go on for days and pages because deep down inside we're all probably a little pissed off still about that one time when that cop wrote us a ticket or didn't stroke our fur the right way on the side of the road, and dammit they just deserve it. Because eff them! Right? Yeah, I'm right. So I'm closing this down but not before I answer the original question about giving the cops the finger with my favorite quote from a really cheesy movie. SURE, you can give them the bird all day long, but it might cost ya because that guy behind the badge sometimes has had just enough of everyone else's #### that day to not give you a pass when you decide to be an immature dick and flip them off. This thread sucks! Lockin' it down.

  21. What an Honor   I have the distinguished honor of being on the Committee to raise $50,000,000 for a monument to Hillary R. Clinton.   We originally wanted to put her on Mt. Rushmore until we discovered there was not enough room for two more faces.   We then decided to erect a statue of Hillary in the Washington , D.C. Hall of Fame. We were in a quandary as to where the statue should be placed. It was not proper to place it beside the statue of George Washington, who never told a lie, or beside her husband William J. Clinton, who never told the truth, since Hillary could never tell the difference.   We finally decided to place it beside Christopher Columbus, the greatest Democrat of them all. He left not knowing where he was going, and when he got there he did not know where he was. He returned not knowing where he had been and did it all on someone else's money.   Thank you, Hillary R. Clinton Monument Committee   P.S. The Committee has raised $2.16 so far.   Out of date stamps are acceptable.  Bus tokens are not.  Food Stamps .....maybe.  Mexican passports are valued at $.05.

  23. My children will be relieved when they read this.            The Explanation            Brains of older people are slow because they know so much.  People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains, scientists believe.  Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so, too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full.            Researchers say this slowing down process is not the same as cognitive decline.   The human brain works slower in old age, said Dr. Michael Ramscar, but only because we have stored more information over time. The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more.            Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for.  It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.     SO THERE!!            I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.   So, please forward this to your friends; they may be my friends, too.

  24. After running a lightweight Clark cf tube, and constantly fixing it for a year, this came along and voila the perfect cf Handguard Some pics of before and after, the AP rhino is rugged as hell w a neat system for lining up the gas tube barrel nut and support ring. It's genius: after: theres a strip of holes at 12 o clock for mtg a rail, slots at 3 and 9 for side rails if needed, slots keep the barrel cooler, one shown is a 13.5 in, comes w tube barrel nut and t15 torx svrews

  25. Picked up a CZ 75 B tonight at Bud's in Sevierville (it's probably not good for me that this place is only a little over a hour away...). Both Mechanically and Jonnin graciously offered to let me come down to Chattanoga and take a look at theirs, but from everything they said and what I've read about this gun the last couple of days, I couldn't wait. Had been thinking about the 2075 RAMI, but those are hard to find. And after holding the 75 in in my hand, it was a done deal. To me, this is just one of those classic guns that I couldn't leave without. So thanks to my Chattanooga friends for turning me on to the CZ brand - probably won't be my last. Something about a metal gun. WIth my Sig p238 now for pocket carry, I could easily see me getting rid of all my polymer eventually...

  28. If I ever buy one, that's probably going to be the case for me.   I just like the Shield far too much to replace it completely.   Sure, the lure of another Glock is strong, but I hope to wait for better/lower pricing or get a used one.    But the pull of a new Gen 4 G19 is very strong!!
    1 point
  29. Nope the G-43 isn't what I'd call a pocket gun, but folks have been pocket carrying Shields so whatever.
    1 point
  30. It's much thinner then the G-19 which makes it feel significantly different and can impact upon carry comfort. FWIW the G-19 is in a class of its on where I see the G-43 as augmenting, not replacing. In the end its always going to be apples and oranges though, expensive ones though I'd say.

  37. Not my first choice but we are likely talking about an animal that weighs less than 100 pounds so a .40 should do it. Contrary to popular belief black bears are not some mythically tough creatures that are hard to kill.

  38. DaveTN makes a good point. I would only point out that the 1911 pattern guns seem to be more "magazine sensitive" than other guns. Personally, I would prefer to spend $25 or so for an extra magazine from a reputable maker like Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat, etc. and keep the gun in my possession and try to shoot it, and continue to break it in, as opposed to sending the gun into the manufacturer. I always hate shipping a brand new gun back. I've done it a few times, but it sure takes the fun out of a new gun. Good luck getting it fixed and running soon.

  40. Yes. Thank you. On top of that, "why would anyone, who is not qualified to be part of a militia, need a weapon"? Well, let's see. Self-defense perhaps? Should a 90-year-old, wheelchair-bound woman, who is clearly not militia qualified, not be able to defend herself? Of course, there are some who would argue that no one should live to be that old and be a drain on "the system", but that's another topic. I think.

  42. I just caved in and decided to get my first 1911.  It is a used ATI Titan with the nitride(?) finish.  I know that the compact versions are said to often not function as well but I greatly prefer the look and feel of them to the full-size - plus if I decide to carry it at some point the compact will be easier to conceal.  As it was a used gun, the owner of the LGS let me try it out before buying it.  At first, I was not going to buy it as it failed to feed frequently with Winchester FMJ flat points and absolutely would not feed with any of the mixed variety of hollow points he gave me to try - as in I had trouble even getting some of them to load by manually operating the slide.  Another thing was that the brass invariably was hitting me in the forehead.  When I told him how badly it was jamming, the LGS owner handed me a box of Golden Sabers and a spare Kimber magazine he had behind the counter and told me to try those out.  The GS would not feed reliably through the factory mag - behaving about like all of the other hollow point rounds (with the 'lip' of the hollow point catching on the ramp.)  When I loaded the Kimber mag, however, I noticed that the ammo was sitting at a much steeper, upward angle than in the factory mag which gave me hope that it would work better.  Happily, I think that was all it needed as the GS ran through the Titan with the Kimber mag like crap through a goose and every bit of the brass went over my shoulder, not into my forehead.  When I put it in lay-away (to hold it until my tax return came available), the LGS owner said to leave the Kimber mag in it and that he would get me a second Kimber mag to go with it.   On another note, when it functioned properly I was amazed at how accurately I was able to shoot it considering this was only the third time I have fired a 1911, the second time I have fired a 1911 in .45 (the first one I fired was in 9mm) and the first compact version of the 1911 I have ever fired.  I will probably polish the feed ramp just to give it that extra bit of help and as long as Kimber mags work in the Titan as well as that one did I think I will be happy with it.  I am still not real comfortable with the idea of cocked and locked carry so it may not go into the carry rotation for a while.  Of course, I'll want to confirm reliability before I carry it, anyhow.

  43. Keep in mind anyone can still bring a suit. Paragraph b notes restitution if the plaintiff loses. Remember you still will have to defend yourself and the scumbag you shot or his family, probably are not rich. My point is that you can't get blood from a turnip.

  45.   I think it is both dangerous and against the ideals of freedom and liberty to cast any and all criticism of police procedure or an individual officer's actions as 'cop bashing' and, therefore, dismiss such criticisms as simply ire against officers, in general.  Just being a cop doesn't automatically make an individual intelligent, rational, honorable or even a very good human being.  A jerk wearing a police uniform and carrying a badge is simply a jerk in uniform carrying a badge - a jerk that is granted full police powers to reinforce his or her tendency toward being a jerk.  Calling that jerk a jerk is simply speaking the truth, not 'cop bashing'.  As hard as it is for some folks to believe, there are bad cops out there as well as otherwise good cops who are subject to poor training or bad procedure.  Just criticizing police procedures, the militarization of our civilian police or the action of individual officers does not mean that a person dislikes, disrespects or disdains officers as a rule.  Further, not every officer needs to dress or be equipped as if he or she were part of an invading force.  In fact, there are some officers who work in such relatively safe and low-crime areas that the likelihood that they will be killed in the line of duty is probably about equal to - well, honestly, probably a good bit less than - my chances of getting killed in a car crash on my way to work.
