  3. The part about him never getting closer than 10 feet is presented the wrong way in the story. The story makes that out to be a factor of why he isn't a threat. To me, if he's at 10 feet than he can be on her faster than she can react, especially as an older person with (presumably) slowing reflexes, and she's busy putting groceries away. I see the 10 feet thing in her favor, not his.

  5. Say 3600 was trying to set up members of the gun community to look bad by asking loaded questions.  I think they did not get that result here, they got caring and compassionate people that took a lot of time to help a stranger through a tough time.  How they choose to report what they found is yet to be determined.  BTW I thought this thread, along with others that he posted seemed a bit loaded, and a little out of the realm of ordinary questions.  If nothing else it shows how great some of the members here at TGO are by taking time to try to help someone who they do not even know.

  8. At no time do I ever claim to be a saint. Really. And if you knew me 6 years ago you'd have hated me like any other Michigander that I read about on here. I was so unaware of guns, gun rights, gun safety and anything else related to them. However, that's not the point at hand. I was out today, mailing something and all of a sudden I lost control of my vehicle. Now Sequoias do have a few known issues but this one was new to me. I somehow ended up at our FAVORITE local gun shop in Livingston. Which is a bit from our house so it's still a mystery as to how my vehicle ended up there. :ugh: I do remember oddly talking with Monkey last night about adding some things to the collection and working on beefing up our ammo. So maybe the Sequoia just heard that convo? I dunno... but somehow I ended up with these: A Gen 4 Glock 20 And this beauty, a Gen 3 Glock 21sf with Nickel Boron Slide Now, if I ever lied to you and told you that I am sad about somehow ending up at the gun store, well I'd never forgive myself. But I did however fib to a certain Monkey when he called me. It was almost as if he could sense something was going on. Well I told him I wouldn't be able to meet him for lunch because I was tied up mailing letters. He called me back a few minutes later and told him I was busy checking out at the Food Lion in Livingston and I would be to his work shortly. As my wonderful, awesome and helpful sales clerk was helping me finish my transaction Monkey called a last time and said "Food Lion in Livingston? Umm... yea, tell Anthony hi for me." Well shoot. The gig was up. DANG IT. But once I ran by his work and he saw what I grabbed, he was very OK with it from what I could tell. I don't think he even remotely expected it because we had talked about going next week but that pesky Sequoia had other plans.. I also picked up a lot of awesome ammo while there. I cannot say enough about the guys at The Livingston Gun Shop and Trading Post. Except that once they know your weaknesses, they try really hard to get you to leave with as many items as possible. There was talk of Monkey possibly needing to take my keys away.. LOL I however blame it on the items I have been reading about on here lately. LOL Either way, we have 2 new family members and I love them A LOT.

  11.   Hell, if I can adjust for that kind of drop I can just shoot them in the head with it :)  I had a friend I took deer hunting a few years ago that got frustrated that he had not seen a deer in a few trips and ended up shooting a squirrel with a 270. Removed the front leg and gutted it all in one shot :)

  12. My brother in law brought me a bottle from NC i think. I was really excited about it. But it's hot garbage imho. Literally. Hot. And rough. Like a long trail ride after a night of heavy drinking and bad mexican food. Imagine the love child of Jameson and JP-8. And this is not coming from a man sitting in a stuffy game room surrounded by high dollar smokes and bottles of top shelf. Just a regular ol bourbon guy who got put in charge of bath time. 13. You know you want a Bradford pear tree.  There are so many great  things about them.  When they spend that 3 days each spring looking pretty they will emit that lovely sewage like odor.   Their quickly growing and branching out limbs are great for hitting your head on when you mow around the tree.  In 10-15 years it will surely fall in a windstorm and bless you with an unbelievable amount of wood for a tree of its size.  It should only take 2-3 days with a good chain saw to cut it into firewood sized pieces.  Speaking of which, Bradford pear wood is hard to beat when you need a quick fire, like between the time that you get up in the morning and when you leave for work 30 minutes later, because it will only take about 15 minutes for a fully stoked fire place to burn down to nothing.  Oh, and the best part is they don't even bear any actual pears so you won't have to pick them up and they wont attract bugs and other vermin.

  14.     I hear you Murg, it is embarrassing, especially when we make decent money and CAN conceivable do something but don't. It is equally embarrassing to air out the fact that I can't pay a professional to do their job. The realization just hit me last night if I don't do something, it's only going to keep hurting, hurt worse, and ultimately still lead to a high dollar expense, dentures aren't as expensive as fixing, but they're not cheap either, especially with broken teeth which seem to be a bitch to pull cleanly. Screw that, I'd rather look a fool and get my mouth on order.   The pain is bad, all the time, but especially bad sometimes, incapacitating is accurate. Last nights flare up had me seeing spots so to speak (and not my homie Spots either) but it wasn't near as bad as one last month. That may have been the worst, you can still do things physically, but your strength is zapped, and your brain won't work right. It sucks a lot. It also sucks having to turn down delicious foods because you know what you are in for during and after eating. I want to eat a Snickers bar again, I want to be able to eat a plate of nachos again.   You want embarrassing? by worse broken tooth shattered on a chocolate chip in some ice cream. A chocolate chip.      I got some real good info last night via PM Murg, I got some stuff to do for an hour or so so have to jump off, but I'll be back to post the gist of the info here in case anyone else is in our boat as well. I will say that thanks to a few members here, I now have options I didn't know existed. Options are good.

  16. Yeah, that seems to be where I am right now.   If I try to think of what a reasonable person would think/do given her circumstances, I can certainly understand that she would be afraid. Does that rise to the level of fear of serious bodily harm or death on its own? I just can't quite get there without other information, but I'm not nor have I ever been nor will I ever be a small 67 year old woman so it's hard to know.   If I were the judge I'd probably see if they couldn't work out an understanding that approaching strangers in a parking lot (especially people likely to be crime victims like the elderly) isn't exactly the smartest thing to do, and that a stranger approaching with no other threatening signs doesn't normally rise to the level of being in fear of life or limb. If so, let's drop the charges, learn from this, and be on our way.

  17. Here is a friend I had to have put down in 2010 after he suffered several heart attacks and suffered from an enlarged heart 3 times normal size. His name was Buttons and was actually my wife's dog till she passed away in 1997. I took care of him after she passed. He tolerated Kasey but Kasey also knew he was the boss and never pushed that issue. He had a real bluff in on her since he only had 4 teeth and when he would growl at her she would hunker down and slowly move away from him. Because of his red eyes many of my friends called him a Devil Dog.......lol . He was 15 when he died. 18. I saw the interview on the news last night and I do have mixed thoughts on this issue but after listening to other witnesses at the scene I'm gonna say she is going to be charged as stated. I only have a few questions at this point that seems odd and that is the guy approaching a woman loading groceries in her car and he approaches a complete stranger and asks for a light for a cigarette and then later cannot be found to be interviewed by news media for comment. They didn't have any trouble finding so called witnesses but not the guy that called 911? They also have a video of the entire incident that I would like to see. There is a few questions I would like answered before passing any type of judgement in the case...............jmho

  19. I am interested in what you find out. My mouth is worse than yours. I am leaning towards full pull and fake ones. It is embarrassing to talk about, but asking for help shows the courage. For the record I have six broken front teeth, and most of my molars are gone, or little more than remnants. I have no excuse. I make good money and have insurance. I am just too embarrassed at this point to even talk to a dentist. The pain is the worst part. It can immobilize you. But I still function daily and don't take anything more than an Aleve a day. I make the "toothless redneck" joke a lot. But it isn't a joke. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk

  21. You have to remember that the zoo policies you are seeing on the website are general policies that probably 90% of all non profits and also companies have.  So are you going to write every company in America about their book policies because they have a no weapons policy?  Remember that these policies generally do not make it illegal for you to carry with your handgun carry permit at say ABC store.   The handgun carry permit is meant to keep you from having a weapons charge in the odd chance that someone discovers that you are carrying and calls the police.  Also it is important to remember that not many people out of the total population legally carry handguns.  We are a small exception just like LEO's and armed guards.  I'm quite confident in carrying at the zoo or any other park in Memphis and would not expect any sort of major problems out of it IF I was discovered to be carrying because we are legal carrying in those locations.  The chance of being discovered is pretty low as long as I conceal and mind my own business.

  22. Ok, I'll be that guy...I like the SCAR-17.  I've had no issues with the reciprocating charging handle, and in fact I like that you can switch it to either side of the gun to accommodate your strong hand (I'm a lefty).  It's easier and faster to clear malfunctions if you ever have one and accurate about as far as you'd want to shoot it (understanding that it's not a sniper rifle).  I guess the question is, what are you planning on doing with it?  It is an ass-kicker on F/A as Comms pointed out, but you're not going get one in F/A so it doesn't matter.  Trying to do 5-round strings for fun at the range the gun will walk on you some, unless you man up on it pretty hard.  But, are you out to just hose close targets with .308?  If not, then it doesn't matter.  The gun isn't any heavier (practically speaking) than a good AR-10 platform.  Are you going to carry it for long distances to get to a hunting spot?  If not, and it's just a range toy, then what does it matter.  As far as rugged goes, I've not seen one break yet, although I'm sure they can.  Are you going to beat the hell out of it every single day?  If not, then what does "mean rounds between failure" matter to you?  At the end of the day, figure out what you want out of the platform and go for it.  I'd own one for no other reason than it's a pretty cool gun if I wasn't allocating funds elsewhere.  You can get AR-10 platform guns for less, but it depends on what brand/features you want.  I built a custom AR-10 and spent the same as you would for the SCAR, so it just depends on what you want.  Buy once, cry once and all that aside, if you like it, and can afford it, then go for it and have fun.  And post range pics for us to enjoy...

  23. Folks... This aint about a better caliber, nor a better pistol, nor better performance; it's about spendin mine and your money for stuff these folks don't need... This is crony capitalism (...really crony fascism...) at work...   When a large gubmt bureaucracy makes a change, somebody gets paid... Think about it...A new pistola... Somebody get's paid... New ammo...Somebody gets paid...   All major calibers are very effective in the hands of thoroughly trained and determined gunmen (...and women...)...  This is about spendin money with the right folks and payin off the right "insiders"...It's payola for the patrician class of bureaucrats...   Somethin to think about... It's endemic to both parties.. It will be almost impossible to fix...   sneerin leroy

  26. I'm aching to fire that 20. I love my 29 but I know that 20 is gonna be my new EDC. I can feel it. I admit there's tons of Michigan a holes, but there's also some rad ones! As for the girls drinking hooch. Where I come from winter is 6 months minimum and all you have is snow, hockey, skiing or sledding. None are fun unless you're drunk and you stay warmer longer! ;-)

  27. 1) nice 20... when we went to Alaska 2 years ago I tried to find a gen 4 20 but they were nowhere to be found. Settled for a 29 which is nice and shoots well but I still pine for a full-size. Maybe one day. 2) growing up in Chattanooga in the late 70's you got used to seeing a lot of Michigan plates on cars headed south for vacation. Some enterprising sort had a bunch of bumper stickers made that said: "would the last person from Michigan please turn out the lights" 3) had several friends date and marry girls from the upper Midwest. You could always tell who they were at parties. The southern girls all had wine coolers or some fur-fru drink. The girls from up north? Bourbon, scotch, sometimes with a coke, usually straight up. I always found that cool... Have fun with the new toys, Mark

  34. The wife and I are thinking of moving out to Cumberland Forge in BFE-Monty County lol, found a good priced 12 acre lot. Tired of driving 40 mins to shoot somewhere nice. Im a bit impartial to those NiBs Glocks - some of them dont look right to me. Granted I really want a full FDE 19 and 31. The 20 shoots great, thought my 29 was a tack driver - the 20 is like a laser cannon rail gun lol. It did not like PMC 200grs too much but Sig 180grs and my 180gr HAP and Berrys loads were doing excellent. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

  36. You want to talk about a strong dislike, I'm a native Californian  Yeah, I win.    As far a s the wisdom teeth go, I've heard from a few people it wasn't so much the pain as the visual of seeing the dentist go to work like a carpenter trying to pull a screw out of a 2x4 with a claw hammer. I'll cross that bridge when i get there, but the idea of going under gives me the heeby jeebys. I have never gone under from IV, but I know from experience with nitrous oxide that I get physical when I start going under  :ugh: . I'll cross it when I get to it though and be sure to advise the anesthesiologist of that in any case.

  37.   One of the owners of our local gun store has a love of weird/different and he's a 10mm fan. He always has 10mm ammo of all kinds in stock which really helps us. But he's actually the one who talked me out of it after he told me his feelings about the company that makes the gun. Apparently he has had an issue for a completely different item so it's left a bad taste in his mouth. I will wait a bit longer and see before I order one. If I do.

  43. CZ... Ya see the glass "half full"... I see the glass "half empty".... It's the difference between bein a grouchy old cynic (...me...) and being hopeful (...you...) that the bureaucrats will sometimes do the right thing...   FTE... As to the "Pistols are not indestructable" thing... The idea that a LEO wears out a gun is laughable; to me, at least... I've probably burned as much powder as 95% of the people on this forum and in the police corps thru 1911's, Smith revolvers, and a myriad of single actions; lots of it with heavy handloads... I've never worn a pistol out, and i've never seen one worn out... In my particular case, ive never seen any degradation of accuracy nor reliability... I will grant that i've seen competition pistols get a bit loose and need a new barrel and bushin (...think 1911's here...)... Nothin more...    Again... Your mileage may vary...   leroy the cynic
