So, recently I did a little thinking about what TGO means to me. I've been here for a number of years, enjoying the awesome service David and the moderators provide. I really enjoy being a part of a community of like-minded folks. The knowledge I've learned, the stories I've heard, the laughs I've had, and even the tears I've cried are a big part of my everyday life. Heck, I get up an hour early every morning before work, just to have time to get caught up on TGO. All of that led me to decide to go ahead and make a contribution to become a benefactor. I've gotten way more knowledge and entertainment than the cost of the membership. I've never felt any pressure to donate here, and the service has always been free, but TGO deserves my membership money. David and staff, thanks for this site and all you do.4 points

Well I finished it up tonight. That SLR handguard is NICE. It's super light and easy to install. You don't have to line up anything for the gas tube so just torque to spec and slap it on there....simple. You don't need any special tools either. The only thing that was disappointing is that it does not come with rail sections like most other handguards. I'll have to buy some for my bipod because I don't have any for keymod. I checked headspace and all is well. Installed and timed the brake It weighs just over 8lbs sans optic and suppressor. Didn't weight it with optic because I'll be changing it. I just threw a 3-9x nikon on it for the time being. The only thing left to do is install a dust cover and bipod. I may get a range report tomorrow if the rain holds off. I have a selection of plinker 147 and 150 loads as well as some match 168 and handload 178's. Here she is: 3 points

My bipod and mount came in and I bought a decent case for it. With he PEPR mount and bipod my groups are getting much better. I've got a set of JP trigger springs coming in as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I just picked up my Pistol Thursday evening when I got home, I installed Talon grips, a pierce plug and TGO David was kind enough to instal my TruGlo TFO sights, I just shot it for the first time. 5 Magazines of Hornady Critical Duty and I absolutely love this little Glock! very accurate and a great trigger for such a compact pistol, I am very happy with my purchase2 points

From what I gather: -There are a lot of 6.5 Creedmore RPR owners out there who are super-happy with their purchase. -There are a lot of .243 RPR owners who are not as happy. -There are not a lot of .308 RPR owners... and the ones that are out there, aren't saying much. :) Rifle Details: Ruger Precision Rifle - .308 (20" barrel - no brake or supressor... yet), Caldwell Bipod, Leupold 2.5-10x40 mildot scope in leupold rings. As configured, this rifle weighs 11.85lbs w/o a magazine. The rifle was purchased locally - I didn't want to pay MAP - not happy that the un-named shop had it listed at MAP ....but I paid up... because it was the first (and still is the only) RPR .308 I had seen in person. Rifle History: As of tonight, I have 79 rounds through this rifle. In my first outing with it, I shot 19 rounds of barrel break-in. -cleaning every round for 10 rounds, then a group of 5, then a group of 4... and then it was dark and the range was closing. ... what a pain at a public range!! ha! Conditions During the Review: sunny, beautiful, 70deg... with a stiff 10-17mph variable wind blowing across the line of fire from 80-90deg. I put 60 rounds downrange. ~35 of them were 147gr ball (perfecta)... even so, ringing the gong at 400yds (using a ~2.5 mildot hold-over) - even in the wind was boringly easy (don't know how big the gong was - maybe 24"?) ** All shots today were from prone with bipod and rear bag. After all of the ball ammo was gone, it was time to confirm zero at 200yds and shoot for groups at 200yds. The first photo is the 3 shots to confirm zero. Zero-Verification: Black Hills (semi-vintage) 168gr Match - 200yds, 3 shot group ** according to my ballistics app, this was a .698" center to center and a .33moa group. I was a little stunned. My point of aim was the end of the "6" - just where the 4" line meets the black ink. After dialing up 2 clicks (~1" at 200yds), a started shooting for groups to see which ammo the gun likes. ___________________________________________________________________ Groups 1) Federal Gold Medal Match SMK 168gr - 200yds, 4 shot group (that's all I had left) **Largest Center-Center spread was 1.866" - .89moa group ___________________________________________________________________ 2) Black Hills 168gr Match -200yds, 5 shot group (it was "new old stock"... rounds were in styrofoam - not plastic, if that helps date it for you.) * That outlier was really my own fault, but it's included. (Man! I wanted to exclude that flyer ... or magically make it go away.) If it was me, I'll settle out of it in time, and future groups won't show it. If it is the rifle or the ammo, it will happen consistently. ** Center-to-Center Spread: 2.508" - 1.2moa group (darn it) Without the flyer it is a .63moa 4-shot group. ***of note! look at the (lack of) vertical spread!! - ya think Black Hills was consistent on this batch? :) ___________________________________________________________________ 3) Federal Gold Medal Match 175 SMK - 200yds, 5 shot group *Center-to-Center Spread: 2.034" - .97moa group ___________________________________________________________________ Conclusions: 1) Rifle: This gun will shoot. I am guessing it will settle in as a .6-.75moa shooter. I absolutely have to put a muzzle break on it. By the time I started shooting these groups, I had shot about 50 rounds already in short order, and I was feeling it a bit. 2) Ammo: I will stick with Black Hills 168 for now and see if the flyer was me or the ammo. The lack of vertical stringing... and the earlier 3 shot group hint that the BH load may be the factory load for this gun. With both weights of FGMM shooting sub moa, I have options. Also, note that with the FGMM -both variants were coming out at a consistent, but markedly different velocity than the BH ammo. - as noted by the ~1.5" higher POI of both FGMM groups. 3) Glass: I am shooting this at 10x. I feel pretty confident that, with a 16 or 20x scope, I could tighten up the groups, maybe someday I'll find out. - I don't know that I can justify big money on glass... ever, but I've been toying around with the idea of a Vortex PST 6-24 (for the EBR2C reticle) or the Burris XTRii 5-20. If I could get the EBR2C reticle in a 16x, it would be a no brainer. -not sure how much real world use I would ever get out of a 24x scope. 4) Conditions: -pretty stoked to shoot for groups at 200yds and not 100yds.... and have these results ... and to get these groups on a day as windy as today, it just makes me smile. If anyone was thinking about a Ruger Precision Rifle... hope this helps. ... aaaand if you are going to be punching paper with it, get the 6.5Creedmore.2 points

This is headed for a new home in Nashville. This is 1/8" 1095 carbon steel professionally heat treated to RC 60. It has beautiful slender Bocote scales with SS pin and lanyard hole. OAL is 10 3/4 with a blade length of 5 1/2". It ha thumb jimping and some nice file work on the spine. As you can see it is double acid etched. It comes with the brown kydex sheath and belt loop.2 points

It wasn't an accident. Someone screwed up royally. 100% avoidable with proper muzzle discipline.2 points

Good commentary, kidd. This I think is pretty much the same reasoning for most of us. I found the site when a past, now banned(He who must not be named) friend of mine told me of it. I was doing chemotherapy at the time and it gave me something to do each day. I would read all the threads while hooked up to the IV drips, and it helped take my mind off the waiting. I found I was pretty much in synch with the people here, so after sharing in the goodness for quite some time, I did become a Benefactor Member. Gotta admit it did have a lot to do with wanting to have a semi-trustworthy(lol) audience to buy, trade and sell with; but it was also payback for all the time and help I had received from the people here. I've met quite a few of our members, made friends, several really god ones, and had a wonderful time doing it all. So the benefits are many, the drawbacks almost non-existant, and TGO David gets a little payback for all the work...and frustration I'm sure; that he has put into this. Yeah...it's more than worth the cost. I urge all you who can to do so. (Ok, bossman...when do I get paid for this glowing endorsement? lol)2 points

We are, Kevin and Kali With the world being what it is today, we just (Dec) purchased our first hand guns and received our carry permits. We live in Knox County and are thinking of setting up a hand gun range on our property. One of our jobs takes us to diverse areas of Tn, Ky, Ga, Va, and Al. So having a little something to go is a great relief. We also own rental homes and our interests vary from our Harley (Road Glide) PS4 (not so much since we got our guns) doing our own rehabs on houses, Kali loves to garden and reclaim furniture and decorations for the yard. For our home we have the Glock 17 4th gen, I carry the 43 and my wife has the 42 (380) Also from one of our renters we got a Marlin 22L rifle, it seems he thought someone was upstairs and having not used it for 3 years he fumbled and shot a hole in the French door window. No one was hurt no animals just a $68.00 window. When we went out to secure the window he asked me to take the rifle as he said he clearly shouldn’t have a weapon LOL. Were mid 50’s and have been in Knoxville since 2000. Thanks for having a great site.1 point

That's good news! - a ricochet is nothing to laugh at, but it is almost always light-years better than being the first thing a round hits. - and when I say "staff's non-desire", I mean that every time I saw someone do something like.... oh... put the muzzle of a loaded 380 into the palm of their hand as they were trying to rack the slide... while pointing the muzzle everywhere but downrange... I first tried to help them regain their muzzle discipline, understand what comes out of "that end of the thing", and then would quietly and politely alert staff that someone is struggling to maintain muzzle discipline and may need assistance. I never once got what felt like a grateful response. -- and there was certainly no rush for staff to get into the range area. - If it helps, I moved away in 2012, so it may have changed hands since then. - I hope those days are long behind that range.1 point

This thread is about The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead is a comic book as well as a television show. In fact, without the comic the show wouldn't exist. So, to me, discussing the comic as it relates to the show is valid. I do try and alert people when I am going to mention a possible spoiler but don't always remember to do so. I will not, however, promise to refrain from discussing it.1 point

Steve, Several of us on TGO are GGC members. I'm sure we'll be more than happy to have you as our guest anytime that you want to go shooting. Also, you can come out and shoot in any of our scheduled matches that take place on the weekends. The matches are open to any competitor, you don't have to be a GGC member. http://www.gallatingun.com/ Again..., Welcome to The Patron State of Shootin' Stuff.1 point

hope the injured party is ok and recovers 100% soon! I was a member and quit going there when I lived in Knoxville because of the lack of muzzle discipline among shooters --- and the staff's non-desire to do anything about it.1 point

Just pull them; what benefit will you get by shooting them except to hear them go bang?1 point

Pull the bullets, The impact (hammer type) bullet pullers are cheap and I can guarantee that you will need it again in the future.1 point
-
I don't believe undercharged cases can explode. What can happen is a bullet can become lodged in the barrel (squib) and subsequent rounds if fired can burst the barrel. That being said, I doubt you are in that much danger with the load stated. It's not that much below recommended starting load.1 point

So, with all the pups we had to go to the dump today. We don't get pickup where we live, so it was a mandatory trip. It's very, VERY rural where we are so we heads down the hill and up another to get to the dump. This is pretty much a gravel road that's a lane and a half wide. As we come around the first curve, what happens? Yep. A freaking puppy sitting smack dab in the middle of the road. No collar, no nothing other then covered in dirt and smelly as sin. So.... She road to town with us, we dropped her at my mother in laws for safe keeping and we went to TSC for more puppy food and pads. She's now walking the yard with Monkey. She's huge, but young. I'm thinking 12 weeks max. I'll post photos later, but this was one of those moments where you just can't believe it's happening again. Stick a fork in me.1 point

The Shield is not offered in .380, you must have been shooting a Bodyguard; different firearm.1 point

I recently sold my 9mm Shield, it was in my daily carry pair for 4 years, I had about 2.5k through it. After the G43 passed without a hiccup on my break-in of 500 rds it was a done deal. I would say that a couple of the major differences I noticed were the grip length and diameter, the Shield was bigger Of course on the standard 7rd vs 6rd with pearce +1 mag but it was also thicker. I carry AIWB and I felt it rode higher and was more noticeable. I'm also not a fan of the S&W trigger, on the trigger itself I could at times feel the catch in the trigger safety on the Shield (not a big deal, but it was a definite stop during trigger pull - have never felt that in any other trigger). That's it, they both shoot great but the G43 won out for me the.1 point

I've made this argument many time for Forestry Aid positions (firefighters). If they're on-call, they'll sit around the shop and just drink coffee and dick around. When in reality they could do other tasks and leave if a call came in. But for $18k a year. You can't ask much. If I was getting paid that little I wouldn't kill myself either.1 point
-
Thanks for the comments. The mirror what I've found with other, similar compact 9s. But haven't shot a 43, only held one. On just the feel of the Shield vs the 43, my personal choice is the Shield. But that's just me. If I get around to actually shooting one...it might change. Heck...I used to not like the 1911. :dropjaw:1 point

I'm crude too. I bite my tongue here a lot because my husband values the board. I don't always see eye to eye with you, but we use a lot of the same curse words and we both love 10mm so you're ok in my book in those regards. What I usually do is type out my whole thoughts then delete it. LOL that way I said it so I feel better.1 point

The bigger cities dictate pretty much what the rest of the state must put up with, just like here in TN. The rural areas have no problem with it. I have heard stories of local law enforcement agencies giving those signs to businesses and firmly recommending they post them. Govmnt has no business taking over private property owners responsibilities to control their own businesses by making a sign have the weight of law. If they post then I guess they wont have to wet themselves asking someone openly carrying to please leave their store. I have to agree that TN needs to address this issue too, signs should not instantly turn a person into a criminal just by virtue of not seeing it and walking past it into a business. If any business owner does not want my money he should tell me that face to face and not hide behind some sign. While denying posted businesses our patronage may not amount to much, it sure makes me feel better knowing I did not contribute to their welfare.1 point
