  1. So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.

  2. UPDATE... I've spoken with the supplier and we will be going with the 20oz and 30oz RTIC tumblers as they are the most cost effective and are just as nice of quality as the ORCA or the Yeti tumblers. I have pricing, I just need to nail down shipping costs so that we can begin taking pre-orders. I hope to have this done by this Friday so that we can begin taking orders over the weekend. The window for ordering will be two weeks. After two weeks are up, the window will close and I will get them on the way to us.

  3. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Excellent. Actually, my heart is in the wonderful CZ 75... but they do get heavy after a while... I'm thinking I'm really liking the Ruger American, too... PPQ trigger at a good bit less money.

  7. OhShoot is right again.....course he was there so that goes without saying. LOL! One thing though, were it to happen again today...OHH what a different story it would be. The best american industry is all down here now. If you could put a wall up along the northern border of Kentucky and run it length ways far enough; Reckon which side would lose the most weight after the first year? The North would look like a third world country.....oh wait, some of it already does!

  8. Steelharp, I disagree with your opinion. I believe the shields are some of the best all around handguns on the market, and especially for their value. I have felt better triggers on higher dollar guns, but they have the best striker fired trigger of any gun I have ever shot. I don't know why any given shield has a better trigger than their full size counterpart. I find the shield is easier to shoot than many guns twice its size and weight, and I find reports of malfunctions nearly unheard of. I wish the same shield platform was available in a longer and taller full size. Something like a slim, 10 round 4.25" barrel. It would easily serve as a duty weapon and an all season IWB concealed weapon.

  9. A full auto is only good for two things, clearing rooms and suppressive fire. A grenade works better for clearing a room and a belt fed works better for suppressive fire. The average person, even a well versed person, will have difficulty keeping a full auto on target. I will say that some of the locals I worked with overseas had ZERO control over their rates of fire. If they had to fire it would be on full auto and they would keep the trigger pulled until it went dry. Took a lot of work to convince them that aim semi auto fire was better than the typical spray and pray technique they would normally use. Had a few that could hit targets at 350 meters with boring regularity using AKs left over from the Russian invasion. Here is one of my guys shooting at a 350 yard target. And notice the wind, not an easy feat with any gun but especially so with a 20+ year old AK and iron sights. An AR chambered in 300 Blackout WILL run on black powder and cast bullets.

  11. Just when I thought that being a lefty kept me safe from the lure of Willis68 and all his ProTechs that so many of you have fallen victim to, he suddenly mentions that there is a TR3 SWAT in left hand that just so happens to be on its way and could give it to me for a steal. What's a guy to do?! Treachery I tell ya!! On a serious note, thanks to Willis68 for an awesome blade! Just bad for me that I now have ANOTHER excuse to buy more (sure this won't be my last!!). Great guy and I can see why he is so popular! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Normally they get $25 hourly for pistol ranges and $35 hourly for rifle range. http://us12.campaign-archive2.com/?u=732d9e9049f929f7549a02f92&id=e311de1c7a&e=bc21268ffb

  18. Don't forget who was instrumental in getting the ball rolling on California anti-gun laws - the same laws which likely later lead to and even served as a model for federal anti-gun laws - in the first place. Who was that? Yep, the Lord High Priest of Republicans, Governor Ronald Reagan who unabashedly supported an act - introduced by another Republican, by the way - which made it illegal for the average citizen to carry a loaded firearm in public. This was the same Ronald Reagan who wrote a letter passionately supporting the Brady law. Reagan supported gun control. I suspect that many other Republican politicians support gun control they just know better than to say it out loud. In our own state, Haslam and Harwell obviously support gun control. It seems to me that most politicians are elitists who don't believe that the common rabble needs to be able to defend themselves - especially against over-reach by those very politicians. It is just like professional wrestling. One side are the 'baby faces' while the other side are the 'heels' except here which is which depends on which line of B.S. a person is willing to buy. Neither side is on our side.

  20. They will last a season or two, friend of mine has his in frames using the hay as filler to raise the height then some garden dirt on top of that. Me, I went the 55gl barrel direction last season, all I got out of them was jalapenos though, squirrels got all my tomatoes. This year they are coming in well, but now I have a plastic owl, a blow up snake and if that doesn't do it, I have electric lines on the top...heh heh, fried squirrel.

  21. Yeah, I can see where that hashtag didn't work out so well for them on the expedition. Shame really but Everest as has already been pointed out doesn't care who or what you are or believe its just waiting patiently to build up the body count. What's not commonly known even though its been reported that mountain is littered with frozen bodies of climbers it claimed. Its so bad you can't climb w/o seeing dead climbers.

  24. I'm starting to wonder if the new Ruger American pistol is prey to the same inconsistent trigger as the M&P line. I've read you and a couple others' poems about how fantabulous the trigger is, but the 9mm version I played with was simply unacceptable. Takeup, then what feels like should have been the break just leads to more movement, and then at some point it releases the striker. Absolutely no actual indication of when it will go off. And it didn't seem to happen in the same place every time, either. Again, maybe it's just the ONE I played with. Back to the Shield. I really do feel that the warranted trigger cricisms directed at the doublestack M&P family don't apply to the Shield line. As to the CZ75 point, completely agree. I happen to like the gussied up Tangfolio semi-customish stuff, but same idea. BigK and I had this discussion yesterday. The doublestack metal framed platform is a different animal to poly striker guns, and of different purpose. I will continue to buy and shoot both, for different reasons, but will never try to compare them to each other.

  25. So of the hundreds of people who've died trying to summit Everest, including a large number of world class mountaineers, that 2 of them also happened to be vegan seems completely irrelevant. Best I recall, there's a sign at camp 4 that says something like 1 in 4 people who leave here will die.

  28. I'm glad they only had muzzle loaders back then, enough people died with those. If they would have had repeating rifles, there's no telling if enough people would have been left to rebuild this country.

  29. When I was a team leader, controlling rate of fire during battle drills was probably one of the most hectic things I had to do. One time during STX lanes, my squad leader was our evaluator, and if a guy ran out of ammo, all he would let him do was just lay there and make bounding movements instead of pretending they were still contributing to the fight. A few contact drills into the exercise, there were only two of us with any ammo left and we got the point. After that we took a pause and had a chat about the need to be more judicious with our rate of fire. Fully concur on the points you raise about full auto. It makes more sense than a three round burst as an option on a rifle, but it's still something not worth using under what I would call 95% of circumstances. If accurate auto fire from a rifle was as simple as moving the selector and letting er' rip, then the bad guys would have put a lot more rounds on target, because their rate of fire discipline was just atrocious.

  32. I'm not a huge fan of the stock M&P trigger either, but that can be fixed if money is no object. While you're at it, you'll also have to spend some more money to get sights as nice as those that come stock on the XD-s. The other thing I didn't like about the Shield 45 is that that bore axis felt tall to me. It FEELS like there's more gun sticking up above my hand, even if there isn't (I'm not sure, I can't find that measurement anywhere). The 45 Shield feels really really thin in my hand and I wear size M gloves. I think I read that the shield is actually about 0.09" wider, so I'm guessing the added length of the Shield grip front to back lets them round the corners of the grip, giving it a sleeker feel than the squarish Glock-like feel of the XD-s. Add the fact that the 45 Shield is also about a half inch taller (looks like the extra height is all in the grip length), letting you get you get that extra finger on the grip. It just feels better in your hand even if the extra height is a little harder to conceal. Bottom line for me is I'm not selling my XD-s any time soon, but if I didn't already have one, it'd be a REAL tough call between the 2. I like a lot of things about both.

  34. Per Harry Turtledove they chose the AK. And they were taught how to manufacture the ammunition as well. The North tried to reverse engineer it, but they were too slow in development and the South won.

  35. Hmm, but when the argument states that carrying in public by law abiding citizens might increase the danger to the public at large then the argument that legally owned guns and legal gun owners are NOT the problem is valid and applicable.

  36. It just irritates me to no end that I never read in these cases where the point is made that LAW ABIDING gun owners commit VERY few crimes. I'll admit I don't know the numbers but almost no carry permits get revoked due to the commission of a crime. The issue isn't guns, its criminals and this is blatantly ignored by the media, but you also never see this argument made in these court cases.

  41. I think this is just the normal way that businesses operate these days. I've had issues in the past with a Suzuki motorcycle. It blew 2 motors within 3,000 miles the second incident because the first one wasn't done right. It was under warranty, but the warranty company (3rd party for Suzuki) didn't want to pay for the second rebuild until I threatened to get a lawyer involved. All the while I got the run around from 2 different dealerships. One which went out of business and locked their doors while they had my bike. More recently I've had issues with my boat. I can't even get a dealership to look at it. Called one dealership and they told me that their turn around time was 3 days. Dropped it off on Wednesday and was told then it would be the first of the week before they could look at it. Called the next Wednesday to check progress it.and was told it would be the next Tuesday before they could look at it. At that point I just picked it up. They didn't even care or ask me why. I'll happily stick with old stuff that I can work on. Screw all the stealerships.
