  1. All gave some, some gave all. You are not forgotten. Vietnam Class of 1967 49 years ago, where did the time go?

  2. Memorial Day is not National BBQ or Go To The Beach or Lake Day. Sure it is okay to enjoy ourselves but it is the day set aside to remember the 646,568 (and counting) Americans who have given their lives fighting for, or defending, our freedoms since the American Revolution. And don't forget the 82,751 still missing in action. Each of these people was a son or daughter, brother or sister, or a friend to someone. Some were fathers or mothers. So don't forget to remember their loved ones who also paid a price with their death.

  3. Mine is an old 3 blade Boker Tree Brand that belonged to my grandfather. its been used and abused and has been worked down to where one of the blades will stick you if you are not careful when it's in your pocket. i would like to say it's probably 50 plus years old, but I am not positive on that account. it just kind of feels right.

  4. Bad idea! I know for one I'd have to go create multiple accounts just so I could come up with reasons such as "Won George Zimmerman's gun online and he suggested this forum for teaching myself engagement scenarios" or "Met some guy named Leonard at a gunshow and he kept saying "TGO Sucks!" after each comment out of his mouth so I had to check it out to see what it was about". Another good one could be "Recently was introduced to regional mall security specialist (cannot reveal his name or identity as it may blow his cover) and he suggested I familiarize myself as much as possible with firearms to deal with situations and the like that I may encounter on my weekly trips to the mall. TGO was the first forum that popped up when Googling "local gun forums". I just cannot help myself...

  5. I live in Kentucky. It is NICS here, not TICS. I never had an issue with TICS. And the only issues I have had with NICS is with this one store. To be honest, after thinking about it, and visiting their website, they are selling the same pistol for $100 less on the website. Which is $200 less than Cabelas. I could go in to the store and press the issue, but I am thinking of letting it be and keeping my business at the four shops, that while also being much closer, have also treated me well and don't give me issues. It hurts to walk from a good price, but as I have gotten older, I have learned the value of good service.

  6. I've got a few people I knew that were lost in Iraq and Afghanistan that I'll be remembering as part of my Memorial Day. This day is for them, and all the others through the centuries that lost their lives for something bigger than themselves. It's also for all the gold star families. The burdens they've been forced to carry cannot be understated. So many stories of families having to move on from such a tragedy, it can give a grown man an allergy attack.

  7. This thread has run the course of its "useful purpose". Time to let James fall back into the shadows where he belongs.

  9. So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.

  10. I'm still reading and digesting all the info, but this is a good day for gun rights, even if it isn't an outright denial of overreach since they only kicked it back.  It seems the aftereffects of Heller and McDonald are felt in this one.  Some very valid logic was applied, and it's worth special attention that the Chief Judge of the Circuit who wrote the majority opinion was appointed by President Clinton in 1998.     Read the rest of the story here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/appeals-court-decision-casts-doubt-on-marylands-assault-weapons-ban/2016/02/04/8a234240-cb59-11e5-88ff-e2d1b4289c2f_story.html   And the full opinion here: http://www.ca4.uscourts.gov/Opinions/Published/141945.P.pdf     The politics/law geek inside me is giddy to dive into this one. ;)

  14. Let me Sharpen them for you from now on, I guarantee you they will look Wicked!

  15. That is certainly an option as well, the more I think about it the more I like it
    1 point
  16. Personally I think this one would look Wicked with a DLC Black Blade, there are no two tone options on the Strider blades, that is something that the Majority votes from you all who want in on this will decide, Stonewashed or DLC

  18. Ok, this was what I was going to reply to (without quote, so not directed specifically to it); the hard return (Enter) gives you a new paragraph, a feature I kinda like and wish other forums did this, a long post without paragraphs is difficult to read and some people really like to type. Now, you basically type until you want a new paragraph, the post will wrap around until the end.

  19. Amen! I want to thank each of you who served in our military!! Yes we need to never never forget our lost heroes. I have many family and friends that were vets of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and all the Gulf wars. We need to keep our kids and grandkids informed so that the important dates like Dec. 7, 1941, June 6, 1944, May 8, 1945 which is VE day, August 15, 1945 which is VJ day.

  21. I made a post about them right before they changed their name. They are crooks that like to show things in stock and then drag their feet my telling you it is on its way for months . I had to get the bank involved to get my money back . I also got a similar response to my inquiries . It was always that parts were to be delivered tomorrow and as soon as the parts hit the floor my order would be filled. That was for a few months that tomorrow never came. This company is a useless p.o.s that should be out of business and I pray that nobody falls for this line of bs and continues to give them money .

  23. I think the logo in the handle looks MUCH better than on the blade. Just my opinion though.

  24. There will only be one blade option on these, we need to decide if we want Stonewashed, Or DLC we can not offer both on these I promised Dave I would do one or the other They are Leftly friendly, once I post the official thread I will post the price, for those of you who have not handled one of these knifes with this texture, I absolutely assure you this is the best grip you will ever have on a pocket knife it is awesome. And for those who think that this makes it look Cheap, you need to see one in person to appreciate it, what goes into engraving our TGO three Bullet hole design into the scale of this knife, is anything but cheap and has several non TGO members loving the look

  28. And because this will likely turn into a Yeager hater/fanboy thread I will say this. Yeager, at least more than any other single person, was responsible for me getting into contracting. I was a fanboy because most of what he said I agreed with. That was before the "incident". And I do not question his response to being shot at, none of us know how we will react under similar circumstances until we find ourselves under similar circumstances. What I do have a problem with is blaming everyone else, including the dead, in his AAR. M I wish him no ill will and I am glad he made lemonade out of lemons.

  32. A 1970 Penny my boy found in 1973 on the ground. He was 3 at the time so when I told him that penny is good luck cause it's the year you were born he gave it to me and I carry it every day since.

  33. Vine varieties do ok in small spaces, they'll seek out the room. I once "lost" a watermelon that went into the underbrush, but once I found it it was ready to harvest. I planted three varieties of tomatoes, Roma, Sweet 100s, and early girl, and of course jalapeños. I also put in 4 cauliflower and 4 broccoli hoping to get them to grow this year. No vine stuff, I don't know how well it would work in the raised planters, not to mention the electrical wires.

  38. I don’t know about Nitre, but bluing is becoming a lost art as it may be near the price of the gun to have it done. I wanted an S&W model 19 reblued in the high gloss original blue it once had. A guy in Christiana did it for me after I did the prep and polishing. I thought this was something I might want to do for retirement income, but I can’t get an FFL where I live; so there goes that idea. If you could get the process of hot bluing down, and charge a reasonable rate, and get an FFL; I believe there is a fortune to be made.

  39. I ended up going w/ an M&P compact over the variety of glocks.... It simply shot best for me. I'm a big fan of German/Austrian engineering, and the reputation for Glocks simply can't be beat... but I went to the LGS and shot everything in their rental case. After months and a couple hundred bucks in rental/range fee's, I bought the Smith & Wesson, and couldn't be happier with it. Find a shop or friend or two here at TGO and put a box of ammo through each, side-by-side. One _should_ stand out to you in a head to head, and that should be the one you go with. A lot of the other-things that come up in 'which gun' discussion becomes secondary to which one feels most comfortable to you. It should feel  like an extension of your person, completely natural, and if it doesn't, you should keep shopping. Just my 2-cents.   - K

  40. I have owned both and that is a tough decision. I actually felt as if the Shield actually handled better, but that may be my imagination. The double stack magazine capability and the easiness to full disassemble are about the only two things the 26 offers over the Shield. If I could get a Shield under $369 I would buy it, but if I could get a 26 for less than $100 more I would probably choose it. Basically whichever one you find the best deal on.
