  1. When I encounter a "which one" gun scenario, my usual answer is BOTH!

  2. I think if it was me, I would leave it in the same condition that it's in. Pass it on down the line along with the history.

  3. Sorry for your loss. Leave the Colt alone. Treasure it for what it is.

  4. We have chatted in another thread but will jump in for the count. I'm South of Jonesborough. Maybe we have enough to have a gathering sometime for breakfast or lunch and put faces to names.

  5. Fix it or replace it. If the house is financed via any government backed loan, i.e. FHA, VA, FNMA a non working HVAC system will kill the loan. IMHO unless you have a cash buyer you're screwed without replacing the HVAC.

  7. That was a very good choice. Probably almost maybe the most versatile perfect revolver ever conceived. A combat masterpiece.

  8. What Chuck said here is the genuine truth of the matter about "...the state regulating the wearing of arms with an eye toward keeping the peace..."... I think it is hilarious that the "anti second amendment" crowd convienently overlooks this as they lead the "children" around with their demigoguery... Black folks should be the stauchest supporters of "Constitutional Carry" and the "Right to Keep and Bear Arms" everywhere... Sadly, lots of 'em are not.... wonderin leroy

  13. I'm sure you guys are wondering... Thanks to Hozzie(an AWESOME guy to deal with), I am the new owner of a Smith Model 66 No Dash. I love stainless revolvers. It feels amazing in my hand, and it sure is purty to look at!!!

  17. Just doodling around on you tube and vevo tonight and sort of wound up with this. Saw them live at Municipal Auditorium in early 70's. Started out with Marshall Tucker band, then Charlie Daniels band end headlined with Black Oak. I still have most of their albums - really liked the hard southern rock they did then. Saw Jim "Dandy" Mangrum at Daytona Bike Week around 2000 - his daughter was singing as well - she looked great. He looked like the next video. Oh how age catches up with us. Memories are best.

  20. This or they're using the absolute cheapest receiver extensions mass produced and they're several thousandths big. I assure you it's not a BCM extension if it doesn't fit well with the stock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I had a snarky comment to use here, but it would definitely backfire on me so we'll just back away slowly lol!

  25. It's a BCM stock. I would call THEM and ask what's up. Maybe Springfield stuck a Milspec stock on a commercial tube. I would be REAL surprised if BCM screwed up.

  26. Crap, I would have just been glad if they showed them finding an hand full of primers and a shotgun shell they could pull powder from.

  27. The one thing I see really different is the inability of the extendable/collapsible stock to do either. Tightest dang stock I've ever seen. Even removing the pin and doing some greasing up, it still doesn't want to move.

  28. I will be in the woods Friday and Saturday afternoon. Wish I could go Saturday morning, but my daughter has band stuff I have to take her too. I would like to get a doe. If a huge 8 point or better came through I would be happy to get it as well

  29. If I can ditch this head cold, I'd like to get a doe to make jerky. So far, I haven't been back since before Thanksgiving.

  30. I think you have a consensus on this issue. Now, tell us about the Smiths! Were they his as well?

  31. The "Make me a bullet" scene made me cringe. There is way more to making a bullet than just the shell and projectile. Where did they get the powder, or the primer. Did they get the correct amount of powder? Did they test fire one? And they spent all day there, and she got ONE bullet? If you get set up, make a bunch. I would have thought their time would have been better spent scrounging for ammo and guns. Surely there has to be some houses left with a pickup truck and fishing boat in the driveway that have not been cleared.

  32. Nice old gun. It was probably made in the teens or the twenty's. If she locks up tight I would shoot standard velocity LRN and keep her oiled up good. I shoot my Dads and Grandpa's old gun sometimes when I go around the old place. Sorry for your loss

  33. Same deal as the rest.....if there's something broke fix it....otherwise oil it up and shoot it.

  35. My grandfather's guns are beat up pretty bad cosmetically because he used them as hunting tools just about every day. They really need to be restored, but we decided that would remove the handling marks that he put on there. His hands held the stock, worked the bolt and pulled the trigger. They function just fine, but refinishing them would only erase the character that he gave them, so no way will I ever refinish my grandfather's guns. Your grandfather's guns appear to be in much better shape and more collectible. Personally, I would leave them alone for sure and enjoy them as they are. Sorry for your loss

  36. The history and love are in the slight imperfections. If 2 generations treasured it, then keep it the way it is, but I agree, go shoot them some and remember. You will treasure them more that way than as a wall hanger.

  37. Sorry for your loss, sounds like your grandpa was a hell of a man. Leave the Colt as it is, it looks near perfect from what I can see.

  41. **UPDATE** Today is his birthday, and we've been out shooting his 3" Stainless Ruger SP101 357 Magnum, and he loves it! A part of me hoped he wouldn't care for it, as I've sort of taken a liking to it as well. Thanks for all the suggestions, and thanks to the forum member who sold it to me.

  44. Our off-exchange plan got axed, too. I expect to make it look better when they get sued. My healthy family of five will pay $10,134 in premiums this year with a $12,800 deductible. Our family has paid $1800 and BCBST has paid $970 in bills related to doctors visits, etc. I'd sure take that kind of profitability in my business. My wife is beyond angry.

  45. A Smith and Wesson 686 will both for the bill for usefulness and be an heirloom. I've had mine fo 25+ years and it is still my most impressive pistol. Of course if you can't find one with out that silly lock, I would pass. Lucky young man either way! Good on you!

  46. If he has experience shooting, I'd say something blued that will simply wear not wear out. 1911 or maybe a nice blued S&W. All depends on budget. No experience, probably a .22
