I think if it was me, I would leave it in the same condition that it's in. Pass it on down the line along with the history.4 points

We have chatted in another thread but will jump in for the count. I'm South of Jonesborough. Maybe we have enough to have a gathering sometime for breakfast or lunch and put faces to names.2 points

Fix it or replace it. If the house is financed via any government backed loan, i.e. FHA, VA, FNMA a non working HVAC system will kill the loan. IMHO unless you have a cash buyer you're screwed without replacing the HVAC.2 points

That was a very good choice. Probably almost maybe the most versatile perfect revolver ever conceived. A combat masterpiece.2 points

What Chuck said here is the genuine truth of the matter about "...the state regulating the wearing of arms with an eye toward keeping the peace..."... I think it is hilarious that the "anti second amendment" crowd convienently overlooks this as they lead the "children" around with their demigoguery... Black folks should be the stauchest supporters of "Constitutional Carry" and the "Right to Keep and Bear Arms" everywhere... Sadly, lots of 'em are not.... wonderin leroy2 points

Trying to get into the Spirit of Christmas? Don't look for smarmy TV movies to find the real "reason for the season." The wife has been gorging on the Hallmark Channel's yuletide offering lately and here's the synopsis of one that was on tonight: "As the Christmas holiday draws near, a veterinary student and a stray cat challenge a fireman's commitment to life as a bachelor."1 point

I recently lost my grandfather,he was the greatest man I've ever known, anyways I could go on forever. I was lucky enough to get a few treasures he had. One was this old colt 38 that belonged to his father. I will never part with it so value doesn't mean much to me. I'm thinking I would like to have it restored but want it done right do any of you guys have some one you would recommend? Let them know how much you love them while you can. R.I.P Esko J Barnard. Thanks for looking and letting me rant.1 point

I totally know what you mean. I was not asking for a list of addresses or a meet this week. Being careful anymore can be a requirement of staying alive with all the crazy stuff going on.1 point

We're out here. But most of us are either stupid or careful. Trust but verify has always been my mantra. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get me....lol1 point

Hey again. Thanks for the good word on him. Joining here I kind of hoped to find a like minded group of people close to me. I worked with a couple shooting buddies until a while back, but they moved to other jobs away from here.1 point

Crap, I would have just been glad if they showed them finding an hand full of primers and a shotgun shell they could pull powder from.1 point

Bingo, see they could have written a 2 min plot line and showed them finding some matches a such and really made it believable. Oh well, you know, zombies and all1 point

The fact remains, our founding fathers believed and many of us still believe today that we're endowed with inalienable rights, they saw those rights coming from our Creator, while some people who don't believe in God see them coming from our humanity. It doesn't matter which side of that fence you come from, we should all believe in those inalienable rights. JAB, many of us were lost in the view given to us by society since our birth, we'd talk about freedom, and rights in school, and then be conditioned to believe that those rights can have conditions set upon them our 'parent' the government. The right to protect yourself and your loved ones without interference from the majority is as important as the right to believe and freely practice your religion without interference of the majority. Any infringement what so ever on those rights are at best immoral and tyranny. If as adults we can't see the problems around us and have ideals that should not be compromised under any condition them how does the government function if we're not moral men and women? It doesn't and we've seen it go faster and faster down hill for the last 150 years. The reality is every immoral rule and law imposed by the government ends with an implied threat, if you don't follow this law men will show up at your house and use whatever force is needed including death to make you do it. JAB, you asked the question about the majority out and out banning firearms because we allow nut cases to carry those firearms... I'd point out AZ passed it's constitutional carry after a nut job attacked a sitting congresswoman killing many innocent people. The reality is it's immoral to limit our freedoms because of what somebody else might do. I think your argument is a red-herring, when we lax stupid gun laws blood doesn't run in the street, crime goes down and people feel empowered. We see this time and time again both here in TN and in other states around us. Finally, if the government bans firearms, then I personally will feel the social contract is fully null and void. I will remove my consent to be governed by said government, and return to a 'state of nature' such as described by Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke.1 point

I think you have a consensus on this issue. Now, tell us about the Smiths! Were they his as well?1 point

The "Make me a bullet" scene made me cringe. There is way more to making a bullet than just the shell and projectile. Where did they get the powder, or the primer. Did they get the correct amount of powder? Did they test fire one? And they spent all day there, and she got ONE bullet? If you get set up, make a bunch. I would have thought their time would have been better spent scrounging for ammo and guns. Surely there has to be some houses left with a pickup truck and fishing boat in the driveway that have not been cleared.1 point

Same song and same dance here, a refurb would be a mistake. If you have children or plan to, take it out on occasions and allow family members to shoot it and add to the family applied patina and enjoy it for what it was designed for.1 point

There is a point missing from this equation with regard to who was considered "law abiding" and allowed to carry by police without undue hassle. It speaks to the fundamental intent of bans on carry that appeared throughout the South during the Reconstruction era. An honest accounting of these laws is impossible to make if one doesn't also make note of the racist origins of them. Folks were generally considered law abiding if they were white. Persons of color were almost uniformly excluded from that category. It wasn't until after the laws began to be applied more uniformly that efforts were made to provide an avenue for legal carry.1 point

JayC Exactly. Those private employment policy related gun bills should have never been proposed. A private employer can dismiss employees in TN for no reason at all the way I understand it so what does that sort of law protect? If your employer does not like guns and he knows you keep a gun in your car, he'll just tell you he canned you for some other reason instead of you keeping the gun in the car at work. Don't ask don't tell is the best way to handle that at most businesses. I agree with you that state gun rights orgs need to concentrate on removing criminal penalties for carrying in certain locations VS feel good laws. You only get so much time to try to pass a bill and the legislature is not going to spend all its time on gun bills.1 point

Ok, I'll admit to it. I watch them with my wife. That's all. (Actually, some of them aren't too bad. Most have the same general plot line, and the others usually parrot some version of A Christmas Carol or It's a Wonderful Life. But it does this old man good to see something wholesome now and then.)1 point

No thanks... I'll be looking for the Christmas horror movies like "Silent Night, Deadly Night" and "Merry Ax-mas"1 point

I'm going to guess a lot of people in TN carried illegally and a lot of police would not give people tickets/arrest otherwise law abiding people carrying handguns before permits were fairly easy to get. Considering that it is a misdemeanor to illegally carry, a lot of folks probably just figured their lives were worth more than the fine if their state/county would not give them a permit.1 point

**UPDATE** Today is his birthday, and we've been out shooting his 3" Stainless Ruger SP101 357 Magnum, and he loves it! A part of me hoped he wouldn't care for it, as I've sort of taken a liking to it as well. Thanks for all the suggestions, and thanks to the forum member who sold it to me.1 point

Our off-exchange plan got axed, too. I expect to make it look better when they get sued. My healthy family of five will pay $10,134 in premiums this year with a $12,800 deductible. Our family has paid $1800 and BCBST has paid $970 in bills related to doctors visits, etc. I'd sure take that kind of profitability in my business. My wife is beyond angry.1 point

A Smith and Wesson 686 will both for the bill for usefulness and be an heirloom. I've had mine fo 25+ years and it is still my most impressive pistol. Of course if you can't find one with out that silly lock, I would pass. Lucky young man either way! Good on you!1 point
