  1. I have an ex-wife that could have probably been repaired but I didn't want to compound my first bad decision.

  2. As the owner of Steve's Pages what can I do to help to make sure that resource is always available? I use it several times a week and it is an amazing resource, both for shooters and non shooters alike. The amount of information Steve put together on his website is staggering. And if you would like to add I have digital copies of owner's manuals and schematics for pretty much every firearm made in the last 100 years. I will gladly mail you a CD or thumbdrive for you to add to the website. When Steve passed and the website went down I got sick at the thought of all that information being lost. I am so glad you resurrected it.

  4. I agree. Bad politics has put us behind the eight ball for maintenance for a few years now. This year, my office has 5 resurfacing projects. The good news (if you don't mind the orange barrels) is that we have something like 17 in the pipeline for next year I'm told. It appears that, at least in the short term, the gas tax hike is going to be put to good use.

  7. These are all made from the same blank. Amazing how different you can make the same blade look. Same size....optical illusion I guess with the bottom one being closest to the camera. All are 1095 carbon steel and the blade blank started the same. The OAL is 10' and blade length is 5". The one with the "rock" pattern is a bit heavier in that it's made from 3/16" thick steel. The other two are made from 5/32" thick steel. The IPE handled one with the OD Green and black G10 accents has the handle bobbed in the back a bit to make the look slightly different. They all have thumb jimping and lanyard hoe. From the top the rock pattern has Orange Agate handles with white liners and white and black accents. The middle one has Burmese Blackwood handles red G10 liners and red and white accents. The last one has IPE handles with OD G10 liners and black accents. I did bob the back of the handle a bit to give it a different look. I forgot to add the red/white accented blade had copper/brass and SS mosaic pins...the green and black accented one has SS mosaic pins and the Orange Agate handled one has brass pins.

  8. That's what kept me from buying one. They now have an Envoy line for some pistols that doesn't have the twist gimmick. If they made it for my pistols, I'd be pretty excited about it...

  9. Esko... I use an ancient RCBS balance scale... Probably 40 years old... I use an old RCBS adjustable powder measure as well... I check every 10 charge on the scale if i'm usin a single stage press (..which i do most of the time...)... I keep the powder pretty full in the hopper... I never worry about a tenth of a grain on 10 grains or less for medium and medium fast burners (...Unique, 231,Titegroup...) , or two tenths over 10 grains if it's slow burning powder (... 2400, H4227, 296...)... Hope this helps... leroy

  10. Surprise, we didn't fall off the face of the earth. With that being said, every wife is different. Tell her that it is common place in the southern states for wives to be accepting or encouraging of gun and whiskey/bourbon collections. It's the polite and wifely duty.

  12. It would seem, IMHO, that the FNH FNS series of pistols has to be the closest thing to a "perfect" pistol. The 9mm version is Glock 19 size with 17 capacity, the grip texture and angle are what they should be, they are fully ambidextrous... why is this not the most popular pistol on the planet? Or is it, and I just don't know it?

  15. Ya gotta love how the counties have unlimited excuses for what the money needed is for. I just renewed my Jeep tags and for 17 years I have been payng $75.00 and this year it was $80.00. I don't even bother asking why the increase. I know some politician had some pet project he needed funding for. The one that use to tickle me was when I lived in Robertson County. Tags up there were $70.00 when I moved there and $80 by the time I moved and I was stupid enough to ask about the increase one year. The lady said it is an increase to the gravel tax for roads. I said lady, I have driven about every where you can drive in this county and never drove on a gravel road. She looked me dead in the eyes and said "thats why we have a gravel tax!! To make sure you never have to drive on one!!!" I didn't have a come back to that so I just said "oh ok thanks" and left.......................

  16. That's logical. But what are the odds all of that money is going to roads? Zero % in my county. a wheel tax is for the schools (supposedly) In addition to the school tax. And of course our tax cut raised gas taxes. I've heard the term "baffle them with bull****" before and believe that's the operational norm

  17. Building and maintaining roads is one area where we actually need government. You wouldn't be able to drive anywhere is roads were left to the private sector.

  18. The problem with 00 buck is that it's deadly way past where you can control it with most defensive shotguns. So, you really need slugs and 00 buck for a real fight. And THAT's when feeding the gun get trickier.

  20. Wait til you try the FNS-9c. I've had them both but the compact stayed. It's the best double stack carry gun I've ever owned. I've posted a review before. I'll see if I can dig it up. Love me some FN.

  22. I'll second the SCCY. They are actually good little guns and reasonably durable...but if he doesn't practice with it the small safety could be an issue. Good Luck.

  23. SCCY CPX 1 with safety, CPX2 without. Should be able to get one out-the-door for $225. Good shooter, small, 10 +1 capacity.

  25. Give Zander insurance a call, they will do the shopping for you & you would have an idea of what is available before you speak to your agent. I will never get sucked into staying with the same insurance company for no reason, ever again. Just as everyone says, it seems like the longer you stay, the higher it goes.

  26. Other than a lot of AK gear lately, I finally got around to installing a Ghost Evo Elite 3.5 trigger connector and spring kit in one of my Glock 19's. It required an hour or so of hand-fitting the connector's over-travel arm to make it perfect, but it was time very well spent. The trigger on this thing is just ridiculously good now. 3.5lbs of smooth pull straight to the break without the typical Glock "wall", almost no overtravel, and incredibly short reset. I had heard it was good but had no idea that it would be this good. And a very short video showing the short reset and the smooth trigger pull.

  27. not sure who you use for insurance, but I would recommend calling Zander insurance. I heard about them on Dave Ramsey's show a couple of years ago and never thought they could actually save that much money. Turns out they got me slightly better homeowner's coverage for literally 50% of what I was paying, and auto insurance for both vehicles at over 30% less than I was paying, for more coverage. They basically shop around at a bunch of different places for you so you don't have to do anything, and send you documents explaining the top three plans they find so you can compare them easily. The ones they sent me were reputable places and had an AM Best rating of A

  31. I purchased the can from Silencer Shop the first week of June, they handled the F4 paperwork, it went pending 7/17, and it arrived at my dealer this past week. This was my first transaction with them and they knocked it out the ballpark! Knight's Armament Company (KAC) 762 QDC CQB suppressor on my SR-25 EMC.

  36. Seriously, who would have thought that the best information I could find on the web, about drinking Bourbon, would be on a gun forum? What's the connection? What came first, the Bourbon or the gun?

  37. New here - New to TN, new to TGO, and new to Bourbon. Over the past few days, I've read all 48 pages of this thread. Learned a lot. How does one get to be 60 years old and never try Bourbon? Except for Drambuie, which I do love, I've always been a beer drinker. But, the wife and I went out to eat a couple months ago, and the beer selection sucked, so I ordered one of my riding buddies' favorite drinks, Makers Mark with very little ice. Not to bad, so I tried it a few more times...Still good. Last week I stopped into the local store where I get my beer, and on a whim bought some 70/30 Black Label from Knox Whiskey Works, which is a relatively new distillery in Knoxville. Turns out it is a sourced product, but still pretty tasty. I happen to live in Knoxville, and it turns out I am down by the liquor store Mike.357 works at, pretty regularly. Hoping to stop there soon and meet him, and pick up some good beginner Bourbon to try. Thanks for all the information, gang.

  43. It isn't just women to like to have unusual colors, etc. on firearms. Some men like it, too - although probably not pink in most cases (unless maybe the guy is a member of 'pink pistols' and, hey, more power to 'em.) Except for the fact that I would kinda like to have a so-called barbecue gun (one of those Ruger SP101 special editions that were 'factory' engraved would fit the bill nicely) for occasional carry or maybe going so far as to put some nice grips on something I have never been one for 'pimping' a carry firearm with a wide pallet of colors. Maybe for a 'range only' gun although my 'range only' guns generally aren't high end enough to warrant the treatment. For a carry gun, a brushed satin finish, stainless, black, blued, nickel, maybe a kinda 'chrome' look on the right gun - those sorts of things - but I don't want a snake-skin pattern or skulls or anything flashy on a gun that I am going to carry. Still, I have to agree with something the owner of my favorite LGS said one day when I kind of chuckled about him having a pink pistol of one kind or another on his shelf. He said, with a big smile, "Hey, nobody wants to be shot with a pink gun."
