  3. Got lucky this year, two eight point bucks, one on opening rifle and one on the 15th. Both went to friends that don't hunt, now I am looking for a doe for me, and maybe another for one that went all summer sausage on the first one, if I get my doe.

  4. Me and little man went out a little while ago and he shot this doe. He's hunted about 30 minutes total this year, and has scored this and an 8 pointer. He thinks there isn't much to deer hunting.

  7. It was not a commercial about selling a car. It was a heart warming commercial about a daughter doing something for her father and a small garage stepping up to help and to me that is what Christmas is all about. I liked and enjoyed it.....JMHO

  8. On the evening of Feb 4th (5-9PM) and all day Feb 5 (8:30AM-11PM) at THE RIDGE in Dayton TN Randy Harris and John Hearne will be offering Saving Your Life with a Pistol - What Matters , What Doesn't . https://www.eventbrite.com/e/harris-hearne-saving-your-life-with-a-pistol-what-matters-what-doesnt-tickets-227733044667 This is a class combining John Hearne’s epic research and lecture on "Who Wins, Who Loses, & Why: Understanding Human Performance When Death Is On The Line." with elements of Randy Harris’s “Primary Skills for the Armed Citizen” and “Defensive Concepts for Low Light Environments”. The class structure will be half of John’s lecture on Friday night from 5 - 9PM. Saturday will begin at 8:30AM with range work until we break for lunch and then we will continue with the rest of John’s lecture until the evening dinner break. After that we will return to the range for the low light portion of the class until 11PM. John's lecture is a broad survey of the most current research into human performance during interpersonal conflict. It is specifically tailored to the needs of those concerned with self-defense whether armed or unarmed. A strong emphasis is placed on understanding how the human mind works in order to optimize performance and increase one’s chance of dominating a violent encounter. Significant time is spent correcting previously offered, outdated information on human performance. Methods of optimizing training are addressed as well. (A binder with course relevant materials will be provided to students.) The shooting portions of the class will be focusing on the core skills of fighting with a handgun under realistic defensive shooting conditions and stress in both daylight and then in low light. These combat proven skills include solid robust manipulations that work under extreme pressure. This training will help with building realistic mental mapping and help you to learn to overcome the potential for panic and stay focused on the task at hand. Fights are won by applying high quality hits under pressure and that is the focus of this class. 12. No. The law presumes that they were there to do you harm. It makes no presumption about your state of mind. If someone breaks into your house, with you inside, they intend harm. “But Cap, they didn’t know you were inside.” Well it ain’t hard to find out. Knock on the door. Ring the doorbell. The law presumes that they have entered with intent to cause death or serious bodily injury or to rape you. Your mindset at that point is irrelevant.

  18. I always end up with stuff I do not need when I but lots in auctions. I have ended up with 6 of the Ruger 10/22 Lasers. The work with 10/22's that have a barrel band. I have priced them well below the prices I saw on Amazon and sites like that. Qty 6 $35 each face to face or $40 shipped.

  19. 50cal cans with dessicant packs are my primary storage manner. Rounds left in factory packaging. Oldest commercial ammo is roughly 15 years old. No noticable difference in it and "new" ammo in safe. I ran a room dehumidifier in the room until it gave out. Now have "Golden Rod" units in each safe. With the temerature variance here in TN; in cold weather I have a small space heater set to 56 and a fan to circulate the air. I actually think my precautions border on overkill, but better safe than sorry. As far as age on ammo, I have shot 45acp that my Dad loaded in the mid 60's without issue. Also some Military 45 Ball that may have been even older. Same results. Unless you are flooded out and all your cans cover in water for a 24 hour period(I use this timeframe because it happened to me), standard ammo cnas with good seals will hold up for decades without problems. My opinion...not a professional nor a Holiday Inn guest. Now I do have some 38 spl and 9mm that were exposed to the above conditions that have discolored cases...but all have fired. So far anyway.

  20. loaded ammo goes in either 50 round or 100 round plastic shell boxes. Then stored in ammo cans. Stored in the garage. No problems in 50 years.

  22. I let several walk on Friday morning. Oddly, I've had the experience more than once lately of seeing late season fawns with the does I've seen. I did jump a bear on the way in - he was much more interested in the fallen apples than he was in me.

  23. Wouldn't it be less complicated and costly to the general law abiding public to take the approach that if you get a DUI conviction, you permanently lose your car and drivers license? Seems like that would be a pretty good deterrent for most folks. I know it would never fly, but at least it would punish the actual offenders rather than everyone.

  37. However - this is, in my opinion, a bit of misnomer that can cause problems. SAY, I live on the ground floor, someone breaks into my home and is running up the stairs with their back to me when I step out of my bedroom with my firearm drawn. LEGALLY, I have the right to defend my home and my family (who happens to be at the top of the stairs.) If they are running out the back door in “retreat” from my home…hold your fire and call the cops. up the stairs? Different scenario entirely.

  38. Actually I just bought my 49 year old daughter a new Bright Red Kia Soul for Christmas. Since she is an only child and will inherit what little I have, I decided to give her part of it now so I can watch her enjoy it. Of course I also bought myself a new Ford Maverick truck while I was at it. No need to leave any money behind.

  40. A friend of mine told me about this site. I've been on TNDeer for a few years and never new Tennessee had a dedicated gun website. A little about me...prior LEO (Colorado), prior military, middle-aged, over weight, all carb diet, beer lover, bald guy (man, that looks bad when you type it ). Avid hunter, primarily bow hunting but have been known to pick up a rifle to get those deer that have been watching me practice with my bow. I'm an "America First" guy, very conservative in all aspects. I'm as pissed off at the Republicans as I am with the DemoRATS....I don't take myself too serious. I'm rambling now....I'll leave it there. Looking forward to getting to know the group. Heard a lot of positive things about the site. Glad to be here.

  41. I dropped a doe in the back corner of my property a couple weeks back. I have does out most mornings but usually as I am leaving for work. Had a big buck show up now and then through the late summer/early fall but he hasn't been back since rifle season started.
