Crazy little bugger..

My daughter decided to go with the birdshead grip and the matt stainless look. I like the looks of it too. I figured that Ruger would be easier to contact with help in case there was ever a problem. Ruger sent me a very hard to find spring one time on a 20 year old pistol that isn't made anymore so that stands out to me about great Ruger customer service. Thanks to you members who provided information and opinions. It helped a bunch.

Mechanic here. *Please note, internet diagnostics are next to impossible, that said... Battery is stone dead. Replace it. If it starts, look for a battery warning light after start (indicating a charging system problem i.e. alternator) If no warning lights and multiple start/stops prove okay.. Likely end of the problem. Could have a starter issue (but from the sounds of it nah). But Id bet it ends with a battery. Car battery's are 12VDC, but they actually produce 12.8VDC, most battery's will start to show fatigue near 12.6VDC 615-578-1767 text if you have a question. -Mike

Starting to have my gut get some confirmation about a recession, even if economists still need to put 2 and 2 together. It's one thing when big tech stocks take a body blow. They have wide swings up and down that aren't abnormal, and they were insanely overvalued these last few years as safe places turned into tar pits for good returns. Seeing them fall is a painful but natural result of the current monetary policy. And aside from Amazon, they don't give a good picture of the economy that's centered around moving product. Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Tractor Supply Company...they all got pasted after posting their earnings for Q1. Easy to Google half a hundred articles offering analysis. But I simplify things and look at these companies (and others like them) to think about the spending and consumption habits of everyday people. When these companies have issues, we're not circulating product from producer, to retailer, to consumer as we should be. Like your vascular system, a healthy flow is needed for the body to function. These companies should be able to post steady income over time in normal conditions if the business is being run properly. But normal was so 2019. Their quarterly postings show that the supply chain crunch is still around, the labor market continues to be out of whack, and inflation has become the walls closing in on both companies and consumers alike. When consumers are squeezed and the price elasticity of supply gets funky, recessions happen while companies figure out how to adjust. Economists and government tend to lag in recognizing this while pouring over data. I still continue to think we're in the unrealized/unannounced phase of a recession. Maybe sooner or later someone in a suit at a podium on TV will tell us what truckers, warehouse workers, and regional managers are seeing in real time now.

Is that grip tape on the grip or has the frame been stippled ? Also , has the slide been cerekoted ? Any information is appreciated.

Not that I’m a huge tech guru or a fan of any certain brand, but since I’m used to the iphone I went ahead and went with an iphone 13 pro max and an otterbox defender pro case. Should be delivered today. We’ll see how it goes.

I've read enough by now to be convinced that relocation won't be my policy. I have obtained a Havahart trap and any coons I catch in it will not need relocation above ground. Thanks for the discussion, Whisper

Range Report : Disclaimer: I'm old and not in the best of health. So don't expect precision shooting. I got it to the range today. Beautiful day. temps in the mid-70s and a light breeze. I decided that rather than just stand there and punch holes in paper that I'd take it to the action range. There I could draw from the holster, shoot steel and move around. Give it a good workout. ;) Here's the range bay as I set it up. 9 targets ranging from 10 to 25 yards. Ammo was mix of what I had on hand. Winchester White Box 115 & 124 gr FMJ Remington Golden Sabre 124 gr. Handload 124 gr LRN Handload 124 gr plated FP. All told I put about 300 rounds through the gun. Overall, I'm very pleased with the gun. Its no tack driver, but plenty combat accurate. The trigger is a bit heavy, but Hi-Powers generally are. It is quite smooth though. The sights are excellent. They give a well defined sight picture and are easy to pick up. I really love the shape of the thumb safety. Positive clicks on and off, big enough to easily work, but not so big as to be bulky. Springfield hit a home run with this design. I did have three malfunctions. Two failure to fully eject and one feed ramp jam. All of these were with my reloads, so I suspect it was the ammo at fault. Generally I started from the draw and just ran the targets until the mag was empty. The steel was easy at all ranges, just couldn't miss. I got good A & B zone hits on the silhouettes at all distances Although they were scattered about a bit. Here's the paper target which was at 10 yards Bear in mind that this was with several types of ammo. It does seem that I need to adjust the rear sight slightly right. I also manged to chase an empty Dr. pepper bottle around the range a bit. Conclusion: Its a Hi-Power with all the desired upgrades. I like it!

My brother and I bought a used 1968 Airstream 20' Land Yacht for $1000 back in the 90s. We used it for deer camp every year for the next dozen or so years, and sold it for $1600 after we moved up to a motorhome. It was classic though, and well insulated. Kept us warm during those Nov/Dec deer seasons. The roof never did leak, can't say the same for the motorhome I bought. It was easy to pull. I pulled it with my 6 cylinder F-150. In hindsight, never thought those old ones would become such collector's items.

Smoky Mountain Gun & Ammo (SMGA) has a store in east Knoxville now. I know nothing about it but apparently they are open. Bill’s Outpost down in Alcoa/Maryville is an excellent suggestion. I’d also check Harvey’s Pistol & Pawn. They generally have very good prices on in stock items that may not necessitate the need for a transfer if you’re looking at new stuff.

I miss the good old days and monthly fliers from places like AIM , SOG , CIA , Samco, and a few others.

That’s likely a battery that’s just too low to hold a charge - maybe with a bad cell that’s “diluting” the ability of the portable pack to start it. You could pull the battery cables and hook them up directly to the jumper cables. If it starts - easy fix.

Erich, I wasn't really trying for groups. Plus read my disclaimer in the review. So maybe, I'm not the best to speak of just how accurate these guns can be. I can say that I'm more than pleased with the accuracy as a self defense firearm. The 10 yard target shows that. I can say its on par with my other Hi-Powers. I am certain that in steadier hands and with better eyes, the gun is capable of shooting much better than I did.

If you look at any other recently placed ad they all have that warning.

In this day and age expectations of privacy are foolish. Cameras are everywhere, your cell phone is a tracker and people have a tendency to put their entire life on the internet. The information is there, but There's so much of it that unless you do something to attract attention to yourself, I doubt it will ever be used or even noticed.

I get an email every day of what's coming. Mail gets scanned but not packages. If you get no email, you won't get mail that day. They've been doing it for years, but only recently have they offered it as a free service to folks if they want it. If a package is coming, they send a link to the tracking number if there is one.

Unless it's a check someone sent or some ultra rare gun part I ordered. It can end up at the neighbors house or down in the holler, who knows some days.

I went to an auction in Santa Fe today. The guns were all in nice condition. I didn't record all the prices but here's what I did write down. USGI Colt M1911 (early frame) but some prior owner had scratched his initials into the right side of the slide! It looked to be done with an electric pencil so probably NOT done during the war by a bored GI in a fox hole. $2500. Actually a pretty decent price for the condition aside from the initials, but that just killed any desire on my part to have it at that price. Inland M1 Carbine $2000 Not a nuts-o price, but STRONG money for sure for an Inland Springfield M1 Garand $2600 << I was stunned. Norinco SKS with detachable mag conversion $825 Ruger 10/22. Plain old wood-stock. $400 Ruger Mini-14 $2000 << say what??!?!?!?!??! Japanese Arisaka Type 38 (I think . . .I don't know these well) $1800 Some kind of Mauser in 7mm (again, not something I know about) $625 The 2 that absolutely blew my mind were: Taurus PT-22 $425 Century Arms Centurion O/U 12 ga $1000 The only one I saw that I think was well-bought was a Colt Huntsman .22. It went for $700. Not a steal, but not overpaid either. I managed to get some .45 ACP ammo at a decent price, but missed out on the .30 Carbine ammo that I need. Oh well. Maybe next time.
