Many people know that I carry a gun. Family gatherings when I take my wnd breaker off and open carry and people that are not family but friends that get invited to the shindig. Some of them will eventually get around to that question of. Would you really shoot someone???? Depending on who they are and the tone of their voice when asking has a lot to do with my reply. Most times I will try and be polite and reply only as last resort. If the person asking is kind of cocky like he may be an anti gun person my reply might be yea I would shoot someone and if need be might shoot them several times. I had one guy at a gathering a few months back of family and friends and he was totally determined to try and embarass the fact that I was packing a gun. He was a young cocky friend of one of my older grandsons. My grandson tried to get him to stop asking questions about it. Finally I went out of front porch because we don't smoke in daughters home and he and my grandson followed. He asked me if I felt like a tough guy because I carried a gun and he doubted I would use it or kill someone. I finally turned and looked at him and said, "Son I have killed more men in my life than I would ever want to remember and it is not nor ever will be something I am proud of but people kill people in war. So now you know that i have killed in the past and if it ever came down to needing to defend myself or family or even a total stranger in danger by another yes I would kill again. With that he went back insde and made sure he kept his distance from me till he and his friends left. I was just wondering ow many other folks may have had that question put to them and what their answers were???8 points

Put a bayonet on a long Mosin Nagant and you can poke them from the end of the hallway! Get an M44 Mosin carbine and the fight will be over if you fire one round. After that intruders will be deaf and blind and you can use the bayonet! As an FYI, the Russian spike bayonet will very easily go through most interior doors and walls! Personally, I use a Brown Bess Musket with bayonet for home defense. If the .75 ball with four buckshot doesn't get them, then the huge muzzle blast and flash from 90 grains of black powder will stun them. Lastly, if they are not out of the fight yet, then seeing my overweight, naked body come screaming down the hall out of the smoke cloud six feet behind a long, shiny bayonet had better do the trick! :eek:4 points

Resist the urge to get a grinder until you can get a good burr grinder. I got pretty geeky about my methods for a while, and grinding it right before you brew it prevents a lot of oxidation. It really did change the whole cup. With three kids, I've got plenty of routine in the morning. I generally set the water to boil as I'm making lunches. By the time I'm done, so is the water. I'm also the only coffee drinker in the house, so once I leave, the rest of a pot would be wasted. Oddly, Fresh Market has become my goto place for coffee beans. I look for the freshest beans available, and they usually have some that have been roasted in the last week or so. Along with a burr grinder, freshness seems to be a big contributor to a good cup. Most of the bagged beans that Fresh Market has have a six-month use by date, so it's easy to figure out when they were roasted.3 points

This (Keurig) when I'm really in a hurry (with my own blend, of course): And THIS when I'm not in a hurry.... I have yet to find anything that makes coffee better than a french press. You all can keep your lousy Wal-mart drip machines :hiding: -- a good cup of coffee is well worth the wait. :drool:3 points

It's absolutely nuthin' fancy! I wanted to build the most basic, cheap, light AR I could using the extra BCG from the TGO group buy. A few years ago I bought some poly lowers right before that last big gun control push... ya know... in case. I was poor, hence the poly vs aluminum lowers. AAAnywho, I had this stuff in a drawer under a mountain of PMAGS and when PSA ran a really good deal on their PTAC cheapie uppers I jumped on one. It took about 2.5 weeks to ship, got it today. The upper was minus BCG, CH, and rear sight. I WAS gunna buy the cheapest things I could find, but it seemed like all the cheap stuff was out of stock at every site. :yuck: Some of you may remember my shameless solicitation in the gear classifieds looking for these parts. I want to thank Ted S., Luke E, and TripleDigitRide for being SSOOOO generous with their time and parts bins! There were more who offered help as well, and I'm grateful for all of you. I had a goal of building an AR for $400, and it wouldn't have been possible without you. These guys are why TGO is so awesome... the community and willingness to help/share is simply unbelievable. (Side note, I've had a magazine for a .40 Sigma/SD listed in the Pay-It-Forward thread for weeks! Somebody claim it!) Only goof I made in execution here was not noticing that this is a heavy barrel upper, not the lightweight profile. :ugh: With the poly lower, it's a bit forward-heavy. Oh well. I'm alright with it for the price! I haven't shot it yet. Mebbe this weekend! :pleased: The only thing I really wanna change is the grip. I'm hoping to find a good deal on a Hogue rubber grip at the fun show in Mboro this weekend. Not much to look at, but here it is!2 points

Well, you know, the base carbine 10/22 is gonna be most of 250 clams any more and it's poorer craftsmanship too. Few things stay the same, especially in the firearms world, and hardly any ever get cheaper. We got really complacent after the AWB sunset, until big threats on gun rights emerged again and drove prices up in a hurry too. Hell, I'm late to the AK genre, but think I might pick up another "cheap" one soon as can work into the budget, just to stash. Damn near everything is worth more than money itself these days on return over time. - OS2 points

Of course, there's also this option, which I use while camping: Grind the coffe beans. Put them in the pot. Add water. Apply heat to boil. Wait. Drink your coffee, enjoy the crunchies.2 points

When someone chooses to take from another, their safety and security, they, by default, lose their right to the same. If someone choses to take my life from me, then let the chips fall where they may and by luck and/or skill we'll see who's still around after the fact. Hippies hate that reasoning but the logic is undeniable and no one has yet to make a reasonable argument against it.2 points

While I'm sure showing up in flip flops and cut off shorts might be out of the question, I've found a lot of the nicer restaurants aren't as picky about dress code as they may have once been. Last time we went to Jimmy kelly's I wore a Godsmack tshirt and my good Levi's. Never got a second glance. Strange thing paying with cash in a bad economy, it changes a lot of minds about some things. I love me some good food. With no kids me and wife eat out a lot. No food will ever be worth a neck tie. I'd rather stop at hardee's and grab a sixer and go home.2 points

some times it just takes a certain little push from an outsider to create that little spark of curiosity and once it happens they take to it like a duck to water and then you realize you created a monster......... My second wife hated football because her first husband watched it but would never explain the game to her. When I was watching a game one day she came and sat down beside me and every time she would ask a question I would answer it. Here first question was what is a 1st down and I told her and the more she learned the more she wanted to know. Soon my house interior was turning orange here and orange there and I had a full blown UT NUT. I lost her in 1997 but I did fill one of her biggest dreams not knowing I was going to lose her but I got a buddy to loan me his season tickets he bought every year and even got to borrow his Chalet in Gatlinburg for the weekend. She was excited that we were going to the mountains. I sprung the game on her after we got there. It was the same year Needem Stadium did their seat addition and when every began stomping their feet the whole place shook and you thought it was an earthquake. Sorry for going on so long but glad you got your wife included in your interests and hope she continues to enjoy it......  :up:2 points

Great customer service experience with Mossberg today. Stupid me lost my mag spring and retainer in the woods tinkering with the old 835 in the dark. Shot right past my head into the pre-dawn darkness, so I've been relegated to a single shot pump for the last week or so. Finally got around to calling Mossberg today to order parts, and I wasn't sure what to call the retainer, so I described it. Just to make sure what I was describing was what she was sending, she went and got an 835, and disassembled it whilst we were talking on the phone. She also tried like the dickens to figure a way to give it to me under warranty, but just couldn't since I didn't have my serial #....BUT sent it as complimentary anyway just because she said I shouldn't have had to mess with a sticky spring in the first place. Their customer service call center is in the great state of TX and not in Commienetticut, so that was also nice to hear.1 point

Yeah, I know it looks weird, but if it works I don't much care. J&L tuner, Fedderesen nitrided 18" .920 barrel, Boyd's tacticool, great trigger, stock receiver, replacing bolt next week with a custom bolt from QUE, DNZ one-piece mount, MidwayUSA exclusive Simmons Whitetail 6.5-20x50AO scope, Rimfire Technologies bedding kit used to free float this for the time being.1 point

I'll go against the grain and give a solid "meh" to the Melting Pot. My wife loves it, but I'm just not big on the idea of paying that much for dinner consisting of boiled meat that I had to cook myself. I'd rather grill at home. If you wanna go there, go for dessert only (they do that). Dinner = :-\ Dessert = :up:1 point

it is along the same line as getting questioned about gun restrictions. More times than not when I reply to those types of questions with an answer like " do you think criminals care about going past signs that say No Guns" you can almost see a light bulb go off. I can't recall anyone asking me about shooting someone.1 point

If they are good people and I feel that with good conversation and some scenarios they might see the reasoning; I'll take my time and chi-chat. I have met soo many people just really have been sheltered or indifferent but curious. Then there are like the one you wrote about and I usually say something in the line of "I don't answer stupid questions or talk to idiots so we shouldn't be speaking." I'm at a point now that I try hard to brush off anything that takes me away from my happy place.1 point

One more thing... In low light it barely shows up (which is understandable since it has no illumination) but when I was in the darkish room and activated my weaponlight on the shotgun, I couldn't see the reticle at all. So, terrible 'tactical' optic... This is 100% an outdoor target shooting sight, in my opinion.1 point

All jokes aside about this Chinese stuff. I was feeding my Kasey those Waggin Tails Chicken Jerky and she loved it and I was buying it in bulk at Sam's. I went to Sam's one day to stock up on some things including her jerky. Not giving it any thought I put 8 2lb bags in my cart and when I got home I was getting stuff put up and what the hell did I see but the words MADE IN CHINA. I got out a bag I had purchased the trip prior and it said Made in USA. I called the 800 number to talk with them. I ask the lady on the phone when they began getting their products made in China and she said that they just started and the new products just hit the shelves in stores this week. I ask her why they moved off shore and she gave me the most lame excuse I have ever heard. She said they were having trouble locating enough chicken in America to continue making their product because of demand. She said we have our own quality control people in the plants over there so you can be assured that the quality of our product won't change. I said maybe not but I won't be buying any more to find out. I made a special trip back to Sam's to take the junk back and get a refund. I go my refund and told the manager at Sam's how disappointed I was in Sam's decision to continue to carry the product. I went over to the Jacks link Jerky and read the package and saw nothing about China and bought five 1lb bags and went home. Since then I have been doing the research about the Waggin Tails reports and dogs are getting sick and dying on the damn things. It is causing many different illnesses and killing dogs and right now I think they are tied up in over 100 lawsuits over people suing them from everything from very high Vet bills to loss of a family pet. Maybe Waggin tails should have called Tyson and ask about buying some chicken and staying on shore in America. That is why I recommend that every one become a label reader and if it does no specifically read Made in USA or Made in America don't buy it because it is probably made in China and the company is hiding it. Also don't get tricked in the labeling either because there are a few out there that say Packaged in America. Ok so it's packaged in America but where is it made??????. I did hear an ad on TV the other night about Milo dog treats and back several years ago it was made in China but the other night on the ad on TV they said it was made in America. I don't know whether to believe them or not but maybe their sales was suffering so bad by being made in China that they came back on Shore and are making it here. I am going to get teh number off one of their products and call them and do a 3rd degree on who ever answers the phone and tell them before hanging up that if my dog gets sick on their products they can expect to be sued and wait for a response. If they tell me they would rather I didn't purchase their products that will tell me what I need to know.................jmho.1 point

I'll go against the grain and tell you how much I love my Taurus TCP 380. It's stupidly accurate for a pocket gun, and ammo wise it eats any FMJ I've put thru it, and for carry ammo I run the Glaser Safety Slugs or FMJ because they feed very well in the little guy. I've never run a hollow point thru it, so I can't speak to feeding/liking that bullet. I run a box of shells a month thru it just so I keep proficient with it.1 point

Absolutely. I own and read all of the books I've listed above. The Road is excellent, very dark...but I've read all of Cormac McCarthy's book and he is a dark SOB, rambles like hell, but I like his work. There is no good or bad with him...there simply "is". :2cents:1 point
